- After hanging up his guitar, John Squire of the Stone Roses, went on to reinvent himself as an artist.
In anticipation of the 'Watercolour' exhibition at Tate Britain, we invited him behind the scenes to talk about a favourite watercolour from Tate's Collection by Patrick Heron, and to show us how he uses watercolour in his own work.
Music by 'Ashbourne's Strongest Man'.
I’ll always support John, no matter what he does. He is the man
yes bro
I love that he's also a painter. He's the ultimate artist.
The level of ignorance in some of the comments I read is extraordinary. I wanted him to play again as much as the next Roses fan and I'm over the moon that I got to see him & pals live this summer. Amazing guitarist, amazing band. But he's a talented artist too, a deep, intelligent, gentle man and a gentleman whom I have had the fortune to talk to. I hope he will find a way to do both music and art. He's truly inspirational.
Seconded
Creative genius is what he is
An inspirational man on so many levels! Love you, John! :D
John Squire is god. I totally support John in whatever he does.
mrcrimpcrimp u r an idiot
Joe Rodriguez what?😂
Getting ASMR from this!
+MrRemorseless fuck those videos are my squeeze
Music
Visual art
Both forms of expression
No need to think so narrowly
Beautiful and calming.
i find that inspiring. thanks john
johns own artwork is amazing, fk having a original warhol, i want a squire or at least a rolf harris
this aged well
@@Felix-ln3wn lol i know right !
@johnmcluskey John Squire has said many times he's sick of the music industry. The only thing he misses is playing live to an audience.
John legend
The coolest man
love your work as always, have fun.... i do wish u try them few strings with paint...
I walked past Zetland Rd in Chorlton today and thought of him & where I believe he lived in 1983. . .
you all slag his art work but all bought his records with his art work on it,funking hypocrisy
so many talk bad about Art and artists, yet i wonder how many of them in studios working daily? i make a nice living creating art and feel blessed to be able to do something i enjoy and love. although i never attended an art school; i'm well read, i view art of ALL types in galleries and museums and i work. yet, i don't sit and slag others (except Pollock and Warhol) and their work. it just seems to smack of pettiness and jealousy.
What's wrong with pollock?
aaaaaaa cuando voy a podr tener un cuadro suyo!!!1
Real nice!
Great Quotes Dail
the stone roses new album cover i hope
❤
brillant artistry... I'm going to try muslin tech. very interesting. never thought of that before. thanks John. Peace Rose
Nice result john
Winsor&Newton and Newton Gold Ochre?
surely he can paint AND guitar!! i do!
Yeah.
i like john squire but his voice sends you to sleep
The guitarist from The Horrors looks like John Squire
I don't understand it at all. But I also don't understand how he wrote second coming. So 🤷. I guess just try and appreciate.
Nice painting. I like that. Like the way the colours work. Destroy celebrity culture!
I don't know why Squire still cant play guitar? Graham Coxon produces abstract art all the time and has his own gallery exhibitions and studio, but he still plays very well. Maybe John Squire is just content with what he does now in the art world..
Lindsay Lohan...or Rudolph Hesse...
God I love him.
Only a split second look at the finished painting!? No detail?
you should try to find so painters who aren't so boring.
Lmao, do you know who this is?
@Monkeymarksmagicmail Although mrcrimpcrimp might have taken it a little harshly, they have a good reason to be mad at modmutha, who insensitively insulted John Squire. Not saying either of those comments are adequate, but at least one of them has a reasonable excuse. modmutha is just rude.
@a1974h disagree totally
Not sure if this is skilled painting but who am I to judge
@BravoStuZero
lol
Nothing against someone doing something they love, but I feel like his real talent is still in the guitar..
Are these people just constantly high or smth!?!
i can do this...
Lol.
The real artistry lies in being able to speak like that, and have people take you seriously. Would it kill you to clearly articulate your points, or must you drape them in relentless art-speak?
Are you ForReal
I PREFER GRAHAM COXON'S PAINTINGS.
I prefer Graham Coxon’s guitar playing too
Abstract art is enjoyed by some and loathed by others... there is no right or wrong, and to each his own, but I can't stand it.
Thanks for being respectful:) I hate how some people can be so angry and prejudice without realising art is just entirely subjective. It’s stupid to get angry at what others like in terms of art.
The Emperor's New Clothes.....
Talented guy with zero charisma.
John turned to "painting" because he was a shite guitar player right J ? :P
Are you tapped in the head
@@lydiaheeney14 well hello lydia heeney....it's been a while :P i was jesting dear, John is of course one of the ALL time great guitarists , he's brilliant
@@lydiaheeney14 Scousers
@@lydiaheeney14 scouser was asked to paint a 50 foot chimney.....the guy giving him the job said, what do you need? scouser said: 50 foot brush :P
WESSERPARAQUAT sorry what I don’t think you know me and I’m glad it’s a joke ps what’s being scouse got to do with this
It's hard to imagine that the boring, old, lethargic, heady, artist here in this video is the same guy who wrote and played guitar on "Love Spreads".
He is talking so much rubbish. My gosh.
MAYBE HE SHOULD STILL PLAYING THE GUITAR.
The artistry appears to have vacated art, much on a level that music has left John.
"nice" try john, now go back to music instead of wasting art supplies.
You're one to fucking talk.
Lol exactly. Just winging it with no real process based in foundation is whateverrr... He obviously loves playing with this stuff like a child, and its the same well of creation he tapped into to play the childlike melodies of songs like Sally Cinnamon, but I'm gonna skip these videos for the records lol
Bla, bla, bla... tjee I’am a artist you know... bla, bla, bla....
Boring
