You explained some things that I have found myself doing, and not knowing why and gave tips to help with things I have been trying to fix. I appreciate what you do. Stuart, great video, thanks!! My Corsair is almost ready for maiden flight (if we can ever get some decent weather!). It was great to buy a large scale Warbird and NOT have to say, “I wish..”. Like in “It could take a bigger battery”, or “it was faster”, or “had a bigger prop.” The 1600mm Corsair on the maiden was fast, predictable, easy to fly and accommodated both a 5000 and 6000 6s battery. Nothing on the plane needs to be upgraded. Out of the box it’s a head turner at the field.
    For those new to the Flightline version of the Corsair be ready for some HARD LEFT PROP TORQUE. After two aborts on takeoff, I lowered the flaps to mid, and for whatever reason the hard left went away and it took off scale. (Rudder high rate was 90/30 and without flaps I couldn’t get the Corsair off the ground before snapped left. Could just be me, but be prepared for it on your maiden)
    The only plane I own I could compare the FL Corsair to would be the FL P-38. And there’s no comparison other than the wingspan, and once trimmed out they both are a dream to fly.
    Looking forward to the 1600mm Spitfire when it’s back in stock.

    • @MotionRC
      @MotionRC  3 роки тому

      You'll love the Spitfire as well. Thanks for the solid write up!

  • @janmb
    @janmb 5 років тому

    Really nice to see some good focus on warbird/taildragger technique. Second and third takeoffs were brilliant.
    Not too much fan of the opposite rudder stuff though. Sure, great for display passes, but for normal turns you want to be doing the exact opposite: Positive rudder, opposite aileron (to counter the natural rudder to roll mix). Standard coordinated turn in other words.
    Seeing how benign the stall is, she could probably be landed a lot slower, with higher nose and more active throttle, but I completely understand not wanting to advocate that to the average customer.

    • @stuartwarnerc
      @stuartwarnerc 5 років тому +1

      Hi Janmb, you are not wrong, but that's the great thing about this model, it will let you fly in a style that suits the individual and not once complain about it. For me, I found opposite rudder useful in a lot of scenario's, but particularly when turning and say half throttle like the first turn after take-off to reduce the build up of speed in this turn and maintain a nice scale look to the turn.
      On landing you wouldn't want to slow it down too much on that final descending approach, the gear doors and the big prop create enough drag as they are, it will bite if you slow it too much at this point, just ask James ;)
      S.

    • @janmb
      @janmb 5 років тому

      Slower speed / positive nose simply requires more throttle management. But yeah, it is more marginal and requires knowing the model well for sure.
      Hanging by the flaps nose down works fine though, plenty enough drag to make that work.
      The downside is that it will lead the "I never use flaps, it has always worked for me" crowd into trouble with overly hot landings 100 yards past where they stand

    • @stuartwarnerc
      @stuartwarnerc 5 років тому +2

      @@janmb Then its something new for that crowd to use/try ;) If someone tries something new and learns how to do it, then that's the best result for me with these video's.

    wing cam model?

  • @scottbusby6095
    @scottbusby6095 3 роки тому

    Nice flying generally. Great model. However saying that you don't want to bank too much and use the rudder in the turn to stop the wing dropping is wrong. Doing this is called a skid and the inside wing then produces less lift and actually increases risk of a spin. Many RC pilots do this and some full size pilots too however. Other than for torque compensation rudder is only needed to compensate for the aileron causing adverse yaw. Once desired bank angle is achieved, ailerons return to neutral and no adverse yaw anymore so no rudder needed after ailerons are neutral. Gentle back pressure will control the nose and help the turn. Hate to see someone spin in on such a nice bird.

      Hey Roderick, I used the following paint on my plane: TESTORS 'Sea Blue' enamel, 0.25 fl. oz bottle, bar code on bottle = 7561111720. I found it to be an almost perfect match! And, I painted a lot of "bare white" areas, like the insides of the battery hatch area, as well as minor touch ups. I applied the paint over a week ago, and I see no problems whatsoever from using this (enamel) paint on the foam. Hope this helps.
