    You should be doing a top side flush, keep adding fluid to mix with old fluid, pumping it out, turn car on in between to activate power steering pump for circulation. repeat process until fluid is the right color.

    You’re talented. This helped me. I have heard that those hose clamps are not supposed to be re-used. Most buy generic hose clamps once the old clamps are off. To me, i would get every bit of the old fluid out as much as possible anyway. I priced a new pump!!! $1,000 at the dealer!!! The part alone! So you’re smart to change it all out, as you did.

    The clip-on-hose story was useful info.

    Cap off, empty the tank, put in new fluid, cap on, start car and steer left, right, left, right, left, right and back to centre. Remove cap and remove the last of the old fluid, top up with new fluid, replace cap, done.

    Thank you, it was a really good video. For noobs like me, the little insights like how the clamps work are extremely important, so please never leave out the little details. Thank you so so much !!!!

      The clamps are one time use. supposed to use new clips, should also flush the fluid because it’s still dirty

    A lot of comments about flushing the system thoroughly.
    Would I jack both wheels up,
    Empty container
    fill the old container with new oil
    start engine
    turn wheels full in both directions,
    Empty again,
    Repeat until liquid looks properly clean.
    And then continue as the video suggests? Great tutorial thanks

    So the filter is located inside of reservoir?

    Hi. Things I did not find consistency in this video: 1) If your BMW is 80k miles or kms, and the fluid got to go, why not flushing it? There is plenty dark old fluid in the lines (high and low pressure) about 1L more. 2) You change it not because the color is black, but because of the mileage. Fresh CHF 11s will change color in 5 days after, due to temperature.

      Hey Red Zone, thanks for the comment. It has 89k on it and the reason I changed it was mainly a change in steering feel and some pump noise which both went away after the change.

    Hi, you mentioned filter change but I did not see you change one. Does the reservoir have a filter in it?

    How come you didn't drain fluid from the steering rack? I'm sure there's plenty of old fluid in the rack

    • @RewindRacing
      @RewindRacing  5 років тому +1

      Hi! There isn’t that much fluid in the rack you put very little back in and most of it is into the reservoir I did suck out the lines that were visible with a pump though

      Bimmer Dad you should jack car up so front wheels are up, and filled, crank steering all the way both directions. Then, drain reservoir and repeat until clean to purge all the old fluid.

    • @JohanM1
      @JohanM1 4 роки тому

      @@johnheiss9954 "crank the steering" is this something you when the engine is running or just turn the steering wheel while engine is off?

      There is a good bit of fluid in the rack....To do it the right way, like others have said, you should have losten the line at the rack (lowest point of the rack) and let it drain while turning the wheels back and forth. That's the only way to properly do the job, but your vid was somewhat educational.

    Not all BMW use chf-11s power steering fluid, only the ones that have active power steering and suspension. Others use dexron transmission fluid. The reservoir cap does not have the green tag on it like yours do but have ATF oil only engraved in the cap.

    • @SamAbraham

    Incomplete job. You just renewed reservoir & left all the old fluid in rack & pump. Why the hell didn't you drain all the old stuff while doing it?

    • @dflex4180

      like i keep saying bmw are different if u have active drive you cant drain this empty malfunction will occur

    • @stevesas632

      @@dflex4180 nope, don't have to drain empty, just hook up a tube to return pipe & steer lock to lock, pumping new fluid through entire system while keeping fresh fluid topped up.

      @@stevesas632 Much better idea than messing with the line going into the rack. Which hose is the return line? The one coming from the bottom of the reservoir or the side?

    • @stevesas632

      @@aaronwilliams8600 yes, the return hose is the highest one on the reservoir. So satisfying seeing the old dark fluid become nice & light as you turn steering wheel lock to lock & pump new stuff through.
