Covering a wide range of topics from incorrect aperture settings and poor focusing technique to dangerous tripod use and awkward menu setup, they'll go over the most common mistakes that befall even the most experienced users.

    You guys are amazing educators. Please keep up the good work. Just a suggestion - SD cards are designed to be reused. Having a correct backup system is a more optimal and affordable system of backing up and storing files. Having a back up drive stored in a different building is safe as a fire can’t burn both sources when stored in different locations (i.e bank safety deposit box). Backup the backup every three months and return it to the second safe location seems like a good option. Just a suggestion

    Thank you both. Always SO informative. I'm confident all of us eagerly await your next streaming. However -and you've even hinted it yourselves- just a little more pre-prep and less banter could cut your showtime by 1/3 and much to the appeal of your listeners (and Jose), IIMHO. Regardless, we're all profiting immensely from RDF so please keep up your fine work.

    A great show. The nugget of knowledge to me was defraction avoiding and not use too high apertures like 16. The 'idea to get everything completely correct is from my Canon Fib film days, when you needed to have everything OK. Greetings from Holland. Thank you!!

    A note on auto-brightness/night shift - the new MacBooks have built-in editing display profiles (including a photography one!) that tunes the display to a specific color gamut and locks the brightness for a completely repeatable display experience! It's really nice, give it a shot.

    The best protection of the front element is the lens hood, it also doesn’t sacrifice lens quality, 17:34. If you bump the lens accidentally into something without correctly mounted lens hood, the filter and front element is gone.

    I do the same. Backup the card (in the rare case that I took a photo I liked), if not, forget it, but always format and Then go out and take photos.

    David, Just caught up on Saturday’s show. Love those programs. You mentioned that your typical gear is an SL2 and Q2 Monochrome. I am thinking about focusing on the M11 as my main landscape camera. Any pros/cons as to why you are using the SL2 vs the M11 for landscape? Would really appreciate a better understanding of your thought process in selecting the SL2 over the M11. Thanks

    Thanks for the advice to update firmware - I wasn't aware that the latest firmware for my M-E 240 was released a while ago. Just downloaded and installed it without experiencing issues. Maybe not necessary if no latest Leica M lenses are used with the camera, but it can't hurt either to have the update installed.

    Great video and tips. My question is how can you be sure that the microfibre cloth in you pocket is clean? Wouldn’t you be better to keep it in a case or bag in your pocket? Does anyone make a nice case for this purpose? Also how do you clean your microfibre cloths. I am always so worried about my cloth being dirty somehow but I live on a horse farm so maybe it’s different for the city slickers. Thanks for all the great advice.

My Q2 can do this under "Customize Controls" and it's great, but on my SL2-S I have to scroll through pages and pages of functions I will never assign to a button, and can't for the life of me figure out how to disable them. 🤔🤔🤔 Is that an official Leica recommendation at 31:50? From an engineer’s point of view I honestly doubt that. The chances to destroy you IBIS motors are higher if they are power on and you swipe against it with brute force. E.g. DJI drones instantly pop up a warning on the screen if you accidentally slightly touch the gimbal the drone powered on. Of course the sensor wiggles if powered off. The inside of a camera with IBIS are sensitive parts, cleaning it is like open heart surgery and by common sense it must be done carefully. And never ever touch the shutter blades: some brands offer a firmware option closing the shutter if powered of to prevent dust on sensor when changing lenses, it is not a sensor protection. The sensor itself is far less sensitive as the shutter blades are.

    38:07 I personally never format my used cards and I never buy cards that have more than 64GB of space. Why? If there is any problem with the portable SSD where the photos are backed up, I can always go back to the original files on the SD cards. Also, 64GB is small enough that I get to swap and back-up cards often. Even if a card gets damaged it is only 64GB worth of data that is lost not 256GB or 512GB worth of data.

    So, what is the difference between deleting & formatting in camera. I choose my keepers & upload them on the computer. With the photos still on the card, I format in camera. So far so good. Is this the best way for it to be done? Thanks for any replies.
    PS; Not a Leica owner.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  2 роки тому +1

      By deleting in-camera, we are referring to deleting single images during playback, not formatting the card to erase everything. By only transferring your "keepers" to your computer and deleting the rest, you might be missing out on some hidden gems. Every so often, we'll go back through images in Lightroom that weren't starred or edited and discover that we missed some really excellent shots. At the time, some of these might be less obvious to spot, so by transferring everything you give yourself the opportunity for further discovery later.

    Leica CL is dead. It appears. I realy wanted that one ... It's the smallest.
    Those S CCD camera's are also failing. Motorproblems.
    M9 ... It's almost like planned. Al the old models die,
    get forgotten. Lucky the body's are so cheap ...
    When you buy a Leica camera you buy a dead camera.
    Firmware don't cancel CL and T.
    Would be funny if you needed to pay for the better firmware to.
    Haha "free firmware" wow.

  • @RS-Amsterdam
    @RS-Amsterdam 2 роки тому +1

    Nice video guys but I want to make a note about firmware.
    An update is NOT INTENT to give you FREE FEATURES.
    It is to address bugs, shortcomings and solve errors
    With many years of Beta testing behind me (and problem solving in released software for computer and IT equipment) the general (so most of the time) life cycle of software releases are , Alpha, Beta, Release Candidate, Stable Release and RTM (release to manufacturing or often called ready to market) and the the official release.
    Since marketing often announces a release date it often happens that the firmware (software) is not completely ready.
    Then they decide what can wait till the first update so the camera or application in general, is stable to use.
    So they buy time to fix it and wait for users input, cause MENTIONING that a camera is not released on the announce date because of software problems is NOT GOOD MARKETING.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  2 роки тому +3

      When Leica releases firmware years after the introduction of the camera and rolls out new features, that is exactly their intent. We're very familiar with the typical alpha/beta/RC/RTM cycle as we've also been involved with camera testing for many years. And yes, often firmware updates do address bugs or glitches. Sometimes they are to roll out features that weren't quite ready at launch. But other times, they introduce features, improved AF algorithms, additional file compression options, or updated UI elements.
