Not only do I always love your music, but I always love your whole vibe. The attitude, the cinematography, the color pallette, everything. Great production value meets great music meets great personality. Always a pleasure!
I can’t explain this but I just love what you make and can listen to it for hours. It is odd for me because I don’t have any dance/house artists I play during my days and the last time I saw the inside of a club was 15 years ago. Looking for your 2023 videos
Shahar! Thank you for the kind words, simplicity is key for me to be able to listen to something for awhile. I'm always aiming to strike that balance, glad to hear you can dig it as well!
@Ricky Tinez simplicity is hard hard thing to do whan you have all the options as an electric musician, specify if you have some elektron boxes (i have an OT, yikes)
I got my Blackbox for a while now, and every time I try something I feel the same as you. Things happen so, so fast, and 90% of the time sounds freakin good. Love this little box 🖤
The Blackbox is an amazing groovebox made by amazing developers. Even for beginners this device is incredible. Firmware Version 3 released in 2023 even pushes it to a new level.
I love my blackbox! I just picked up an uno pro. For an inexpensive synth it's impressive. Especially when I layer it with my ocoast. When I get where I want my synths, I pack the results into the blackbox and pad the sequence. Same with licks and riffs. You helped me decide to get it so thank you sir 🙏
Not sure if anyone else has suggested it but if you have an external mixer that you’re sampling from, you could use a send from the mixer for sampling to the BB to avoid having to mute your other tracks before recording. I think this should work. Have been using my BB solo for a while but I think I did something like this before
When you mentioned the song; The sun can't compare, I wasn't sure if I knew this track, but I taught it would be something I heard on Ellen Alien's Fabric album, and I was right 🙂 I love this track too, the groove is complex yet original at the same time🥐☕
This concept is crazy! Shoutout OG compact creations too! And one thing that I think would help support the track a lil bit more is a simple but quiet violin / string mixed in the back. Maybe an A#?
Dope! Just wish the Blackbox has a little built in mic for recording that shaker. Funny story. Back when I worked at Sonic Foundry we got a sample pack from Kenny Dope but it wasn't organized very well and much of it wasn't loops so they decided not to release it. I might still have a copy of it in storage.
Been doing very similar stuff lately with the digitone keys and tb3mo. Digitone does decent acid sounds with some programming work. And the chorus, reverb, delay effects onboard the digitone bring the two instruments into the same “space” so well. Love using 303 sounds for leads and random spacey things instead of an acid bassline.
Good to see the blackbox getting some love. It does have a few annoying quirks but 1010audio are pretty good at new features and improvements. It's been the brain of my setup since I got it from release 🤓
Bro.. First of all this sounds sick. But I also thought of a shaker and when you picked one up, I realized I might have some musical sense in me afterall.
Great and inspiring video. I don’t think that jam needs a thing, I dig the minimal sound. Got me thinking about my Micromonsta 2 and setting up two identical patches on part A and B, and tweaking it’s insane arpeggiator/pattern sequencer to accomplish something similar. Would be a great addition to a compact creation!
I hear you on the Blackbox sampling roadblock. I have a similar setup with a small 8 channel analog mixer and I use the control room outs to the Blackbox input to sample any ch on the mixer but it captures the Blackbox too so it will feedback if I don’t turn down or mute the channel the Blackbox is on. I could however use the fx send on the mixer to capture on the Blackbox but then I lose my fx loop with my master reverb. I think the ideal setup would be to use a mixer with 2 fx sends/returns and have one dedicated to routing audio to the Blackbox inputs but finding a small 6-8 ch mixer with 2 fx sends/returns is impossible.
Sounds great. If you wanted to add anything, some gritty stabs or dirty pianos (think strings of life) might work as some elements to kind of give you more options for arranging
One thing you can do is set up the blackbox input as a send channel in ableton, which alleviates the difficulty when sampling a specific insturment. Of course this also gives the option to throw a limiter or whatever on that channel before it hits the blackbox.
You could namedrop some of the OGs more often. I think a lot of people will be inspired by their great minimalistic compositions. Sun can’t compare is an afterhour deepcut as well as I‘m lonely by Hollis P Monroe for example.
Another wicked video. The black box looks good lots of potential there. I can’t believe the price of the Avalon these days, future classic I think. I wonder if they will make more at some point. Happy new year to you 🙂
I was lucky enough to get one of the first Batch. It’s an amazing synth for sure, but that price seems to be a bit outrageous. I would definitely consider a din sync Re303 for a realistic acid box or the modded out behringer td3 is also worth a look at the price.
I bought the Blackbox because of your review, but I'm actually only using it for sampling now as the sequencer / song mode is so awkward (I know, it can do LOADS, even the built-in keyboard saved my ass once when my 🤬Novation keyboard blew up after 4 weeks of use). I would've expected you'd use the Polyend Play for sequencing. What made you go back to the Blackbox sequencer made for pixie fingers?
I never use the sequencer, it's too small to program effectively. Hitting record and tapping the sequence out works but only if you get it the first time (and I rarely do)
I’m hearing a nice lpf saw lead drenched in reverb and some marimba-ish woodblocky dinks and doinks, maybe some female soul vocal chops. Don’t forget to add me as a featured artist 😂. Keep sharing knowledge and spreading love everybody ✌️🎶❤️
What could be a good sequencer (notes and few parameters) that allows to directly record the loop while sequencing a synth ? With a decent ausio lenght ?
In proper Move D territory! Have you noticed that you make some of your best grooves with the Black Box? Its a weird beast, but I honestly think because it doesn't adhere to how people expect it to work, you get interesting results.
Nice! Always love your videos, always inspirational. 🔥 Since getting the 404mk2 I've been re-experimenting how to re-implicate my TD3 for a lofi house beatset, in a sorta similar fashion, but differently ofcourse ;) That setup looks sick tho! and that synth sounds nice!👽🤟
I have my TD3 going into my MC707, i never used it as a looper for ext gear, because i run my 707 into my Octatrack for looping. But i should dedicate one channel to a looper for TD3 and experiment, cheers!
Compact creations should make a comeback
oh it is.

Ricky Tinez, the Bob Ross of audio. Love it.

I love the Compact Creations! What a nice groove! And that Avalon sounds awesome!
So happy to see the return of Compact Creations! Hoping to see more of them in the new year! HNY Ricky!
Not only do I always love your music, but I always love your whole vibe. The attitude, the cinematography, the color pallette, everything. Great production value meets great music meets great personality. Always a pleasure!
Andrew thank you for that! I appreciate the support!
Very well put, ten hut to you
always appreciated your house sensibility....acid house was what got me into the scene back in the late 80s
Rick's videos are superior to all marketing campaigns.
Mate your vibe is unmatched, so chill and pleasant to watch.
Thank you Hex!

woo hoo! Compact creations!
You know what's up! haha
the sun cant compare is one of the best tracks ive ever heard, so glad that you mentioned it. its the only acid track in my dj folder lol
Sounds epic man, so much groove going out of this Avalon !
Really missed the compact creaton thing btw, that was a good one ! ❤
Thanks Nicolas! same, I love taking it back to simplicity.
Just got a blackbox and figuring it out but stoked to see it on your video. Happy New Year. Thanks for the positive vibes.
love the compact creations series. awesome comeback
Has a classic 90s vibe ; resembling tracks by Herbert, Hot Lizard, and a few gems on Circulation ... Well done!
Nicely done, that Avalon is the thing.
It reminds me so much when I was younger when I would run my Roland MC 202 and SH 101 through an zoom 9002. Cool nostalgia Ricky, thanks!
Its good vibes watching you jam out. Long live the PLUR. May the new year be a good one
Safe passage into the new year sir. The world will be in good hands with the Tinez vibes following us into 2023!

Same to you!
As soon as this video started, I was getting Delano Smith vibes, always nice!
Fantastic jam. When that M1 phase droppedr in, it reminded me of early Swayzak from the "Snowboarding in Argentina" period. Stellar...

Love seeing the Avalon again
Its just too good haha
I couldn't believe my eyes! A new RT vid with BB up today!
Loved this "tutorial". Minimal setup enables (or, forces) idea generation to surface.
I think I like what you got going on more than the tracks that inspired you to do this. SMOOVE track
Sun Can't Compare is a stone cold classic, absolutely beautiful track. Love your work, love your energy, great content as always!
HNY Rick! Gotta love the 303 and this jam! Beautiful chord btw.
Aw YEAH, Compact Creations! My favorite thing you do. It’s so damn inspiring.
Man that black box is no joke! I had to rebuy it again, didn’t realize how dope it was till it was gone. Nice groove bruv!
I did exactly the same thing. It's so great for coming up with ideas.
Brilliant. I could listen to this all day but also all night. Thank you for posting. ✌️
Ricky you always show me a new workflow with the BB, an amazing sampler. Thank you sir!
shoutout to Mr white the sun can't compare! that song is my all time favourite acid track. just pure emotion. it's beautiful.

The side chain on the synth track while you’re talking really sets your video production apart

Been awhile since I've caught your feed, but it's as inspiring as ever. Great groove!
Honestly I would love to see you implement some live instruments on this. I was thinking a nice flute pattern.
Time to find a flutist.. is that the word?
Flautist 😉
get off, hippie
A mute horn trumpet 🎺 or Harmonica would work equally well (I listened to a lot of Jonah Sharpe aka SpaceTime Continuum when I was in my 20’s)
@@RickyTinez either flutist or flautist, Tomato, Tomahto
