As an immigrant away from my own country and having been in touch with the high society circles, this film was so relatable and accurete!

Loved this movie. The film reminded me of Atlantics 2019, and His House 2020. If you loved those films I would recommend watching this masterpiece, you will not be disappointed. So many of these movies need more exposure! 🤟🏼

Fucking incredible film. Saw it at Sundance film festival in January of this year. Thank god it got picked up and is getting a holiday/end of year release on a hugely accessible platform such as Amazon Prime. This was my fav at the festival. And thankfully this trailer didn’t spoil or show too much.

This is a great indie film but judging by a lot of the comments, Prime should not recommend/serve it to the Blockbuster, Fast & Furious crowd that prefers simple plot lines, over the top scenes, obvious guts and glory and cliche tag lines. Most Sundance, Tribecca, Canne Film festival Artsy films won't be received well by General audiences/the masses. This movie has the pacing and mystery of The Shape of Water, which a lot of general audieces also thought was boring and confusing. I loved Nanny! It was a wonderful homage to the 1960s Ousmane Sembene film "Black Girl" ! Great job! Shout out to the brilliant Sierra Leonean-American director Nikyatu Jusu!
Such an intensive movie. I really admired Anna Diop. She’s both talented and beautiful. It was good to see another beautiful and talented woman in the movie; Leslie Uggams. I’m so glad she’s still able to continue to be active.

I’ll pass. I’m just tired of seeing nothing but horror movies being made. We just went through all of October and November with nothing but horror releases. December comes with Christmas and New Years around the corner, and still they are flooding us with horror movies. And for the people telling me not to watch… I am not watching, duh. But I still felt like sharing my opinion with the ridiculous amount of horror flicks coming out. Our country is at an all time high for depression, suicide, school shootings and unprovoked attacks, so excuse me if I don’t think pushing movies like this to the population doesn’t help. Anything else you want to say ? I sure could use more people like yourself stating the obvious 🙄 Seems more like you all are paid shills to promote the movie and entice an audience. Y’all really gotta find better tactics. Or here’s an idea… how about just tell your employer to make better movies 😩

I don't think this is a horror movie if you grew up in a spiritual home and are aware of such things. More so mystery and suspense. However, I do understand how the horror genre fits in due to certain visuals. I really enjoyed the movie, but found the movie to be quite heartbreaking, so I appreciate the times I was able to smile, even the times when I was angry for her. It left me wanting a little more at the end because I wanted to see how she dealt with things. The performances and cinematography were beautiful. I love original stories. Can be a slow burn for some, but if you have a great attention span, you will appreciate the story.
I might be seeing this at the MVFF and I'm excited!

This Movie is so confusing. Am not sure if it’s about the girl mom NOT paying the nanny money she keeps owning or is this about the girl dad TRYING to flirt/sleep with the nanny. And what’s up with the nanny keep having weird random dreams about her son??🤔
Well *Spoiler* she kept having the dreams because her son died that’s why. Not sure what the spider had to do with it though or why they showed the husband being an absolutely terrible person, I just didn’t get it.

How did you miss the connection about the dream and the death of her son? Seems like you didn’t watch the film. The point of her job is she was working as a Nanny to bring her child to NYC. The late and short payment continued to delay when she could by the plane tickets. Perhaps if she were paid on time the boy could have come to NYC sooner and his “caregivers” wouldn’t have had the chance to take him to the beach. It’s all very correlated but if you don’t pay attention you won’t get it.

Mami Water is referenced throughout the movie. It’s believed that if a person dies by drowning in Africa, the person’s spirit was called by Mami water. They lure people into the rivers and take their soul. In this movie, Lamine is given by the Mami water spirit, because his mother Aisha went to the beach when she was pregnant. In the end, Lamine’s spirit is called as he drowns. And his spirit haunts his mother (Aisha) because he’s jealous just as Rose said. In the end, she tries to drown, and the Mami water spirit saves her again. And gives her yet another child, and then the cycle begins again.

It’s under.. mystery & thriller
Not really what you're looking for when this comes up in the "horror" section of Prime.
It's like someone wrote one good thriller movie (albeit one that feels like someone wrote it after watching Atlanta S3) and a VERY boring folk horror movie, and mashed them together.
tl;dr: Nanny would've worked better as a pure social commentary thriller, since these were already the strong points of the movie.
If you want to see the horror parts of this movie but done better, watch "His House".
It's the suspense of not knowing but okay every horror film doesn't have to fit in one box. This is exampled in The Skeleton Key.

Anna Diop was amazing. Michelle Monaghan was intense and brilliant as always. Story sucked though. And that kid would not have enjoyed that spicy food at all. 😂
Not a must watch in my opinion, but everyone is different. This lady is a beautiful woman for sure. Is the movie scary? In no way. Unless seing a spider, a weird shadow, mold and a mermaid of sorts terrifies you. Megan Monaghan is also a beautiful woman who is in this movie and brings a level of real intensity to the viewer in a few scenes.
The horror movie visuals shown in the trailer were very "tropey", Spider on face, blackening & rotting surroundings, etc...
What makes this any different from the 1000 low-budget horror films that already are on Netflix?
This was so good. Black people are reinventing and owning the thriller/horror genre in film. I’m a big fan of the genres so it’s so cool to see it emerge. This show is definitely worth seeing. The acting is phenomenal and so is the writing. Edge of your seat film.
We need more black actors in leading roles on the big screen, just love it will definitely watch this movie.
No we just need the right actors/actresses for the role. Doesn’t matter what colour they are. Stop trying to fill a diversity quota
Why? Let me put it to you this way..if you're a black actor/actress/director/anything, and win something in 2023, do NOT try to tell me you wouldn't spend the rest of your life wondering if you won because it's GOOD, or because YOU'RE black. And, that's exactly what's happening here.
I don't feel ANYTHING from this trailer... neither horror, nor thriller OR a story... it has some badly placed sound effects and praises the visuals of some CGI mold and a blanket? I really hope the film itself will have any substance.

I watched this movie last night and saw the twist coming instantly after sparking the blunt, during the opening credits. Something in my gut kept telling me I seen this movie before, and I sure as hell did a couple of months back on showtime. Cousins didn't want to believe I knew, I didn't want to at first. They both have similar themes , plot beats, the same twist, shit had me mad the whole time I was watching this. Never trusting an Amazon original again.
Oh and that movie was Monstrous with Christina Ricci.
