I know it seemed kind of like a cop out, but I guess another way of looking at it is how messed up their daughter actually is.. to go that far and put them through that. So you can kind of look at it as a movie about how far her mental health deteriorated. If I was her mom I'd probably get her institutionalized before I was hauled to jail 🤣

And then it becomes clear that Rebecca and Jay and Kayla all had something to do with his daughter’s disappearance, and they live literally on the same street. I’d be snooping around and demanding answers too if my child’s life was on the line.

The ending had me in complete shock. I was literally yelling at the tv. 😂 Amazing movie, amazing acting. There's nothing Peter Sarsgaard can't do. I loved it!

Not the least bit shocked. I figured it almost immediately. Watch enough movies like this and you always have to think outside the box and realize it WILL NEVER be what the movie is leading you to believe.
Side note, I'd say the mom gets 20 years, does 8 to 12 years and is paroled. Lol
And it only had 3 stars 😗

This movie shows how much evil can be hidden in us and can lead us to hurt others in a survival attempt to escape from justice. One crime lead to another and to the point where both kid and parents know all too well the taste of murder.

I would have told my daughter from the beginning that she needs to take responsibility and bring her to the police station. She would have definitely admitted that it was all a lie to "let her friend spend the weekend with her boyfriend" and this entire situation would have been avoided.

The cinematography was spot on for the overall vibe of the film. Gray and gloomy throughout. The pace of the film was also spot on with what the director was trying to convey to his viewers. It had its flaws sure, but it was still a great thriller and kept my attention throughout. I give it a B-

Joey King's acting was amazing. Even though I did not see the ending coming, I still don't understand why did they show a shot of unconscious Brittany. Or why didn't Kayla just confess when the father chased her.
The mom was dreaming when she saw dead Brittany.
kayla wanted her parents to get back together, that's why she didn't tell them till the end
I think that shot would have been the parents picture of "dead" brittany.
Cuz it had gotten so far that she didn't know how to handle the situation anymore. But again, the movie isn't made perfect , it does have some loopholes.
Or maybe she just knew that when her friend is back everything will be back to normal so that's where she got the guts to lie.

Jaxy Jay knowing “knowing the end doesn’t detract from the experience?” It obviously does. You’re going on about the “craft” yet part of that is being able to shock the audience and keep them guessing throughout the movie. Knowing the ending can completely ruins a film, it kills the suspense which is a huge part of the watching experience.

Amazing movie, at the end, we know why she did it, it wasn't entirely 100% her fault, she was a spoiled kid, and I hated her so much, but part of the problem was her parent, she kept it going just to see her parents together again. so yeah, they were all blamed there.
It's insane how far a parent would go to protect their kids, and kids use that weak point to take advantage. make sure you don't spoil your kid, and at the same time, don't be selfish.

Judging from Blumhouse's current pattern of making the men the villains in all of their stories, my guess is that the teenage girl is lying to protect her father who killed her friend (because they had been having an affair) and the father is now gaslighting both wife and daughter about it all.
