    This movie is a masterpiece. I thought it was just a high school based rom com but it is so much more realistic and amazing than that. It touches so much ground and yet so subtly. I was falling in love with each and every character throughout!

      Yeah, I just googled it, but for anyone curious, the person who plays Ellie was born in 97, the person who plays Aster was born in 96, I found an interview for the actor who plays the guy last year and they mentioned he was 22, so I'm guessing either 96 or 97

    This movie is a extremely well written and performed. Its filled with fun, emotions, complications. I love how movie shows a rainbow of internal emotions by cleverly using metaphors. Definitely one of the most deep meaning(s) kind of script presented with elegance and simplicity..

      Booger Boy I don’t think they were trying to erase bi/pan relationships. I think the trailer was clear with how she is lesbian, not bi or pan, saying love is not always romantic or whatever it said.

The trailer doesn't make the show seem sexualized in the first place, so I'd be shocked if it went down that path. On top of that, the writer/director/producer is a lesbian and the MC seems to be partly based on her.
      Also it'd be annoying; the world needs more platonic girl/boy friendships, not every MC has to hook up with the MC of the opposite sex.

    The best parts (wink) of the film: Ellie's sexy velvety voice, the dad standing there without speaking with the kitchen shower in his hand after having drenched Trig, the song she sings, "I bet she would have tried taco sausage", and when Paul looked shocked at Ellie from the diner window.

    I have never cried like I did at the end of this movie. I've never felt so seen and understood by anything. It felt like Alice Wu took me apart, piece by piece and made something that would fill up every empty hollow in my heart. The way love is portrayed in this movie with all the ups and downs was the most beautiful thing. This felt like reading a love letter from myself. Thank you Alice Wu.

      same! I grew out of this genre pretty quick after graduating high school, and the vast majority of recent teen movies give me so much secondhand embarrassment now tbh. this one seems so refreshing in comparison. it feels kinda more grounded and real than most. gonna watch it tonight.

Some recent examples: Insatiable (main white girl and the hot Asian stripper dude), that zombie show with Steven Yeun, the recent Christmas movie with Henry Golding and the games of thrones actress, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Jane the Virgin (her best friend married an Asian guy), and if you wanna count South Asian males and white females, there are a ton of those too. There is a show where the main guy is brown and the whole show is him dating white girls. You just see what you want to see (or in this case, DON'T want to see).

    This looks really promising, hopefully the actual film would go on to develop Ellie and Paul's friendship. I am loving the actress for Ellie, she looks different from the typical Hollywood Asian actresses, more like actual Asian girls that I have seen on streets and stuff. Her voice is super surprising and lovely, and she played her part with a nice subtlety.

    Okay, i highkey thought this was about a nerdy asian girl who becomes a tutor for a jock and falls in love, like that kind of trash. Then, this trailer took a whole other turn. An Asian-American lesbian lead, for teenagers, like where the hell does one find that. I know it looks just like Sierra Burgess, but I feel like we should give it a chance, and I'm honestly so excited for this level of representation. Also, a male and female friendship is being put on screen without any romantic elements, though she is lesbian which happens to be almost every non romantic male and female friendship, one of them is always gay but still a great step.

    when the kid yelled CHOO CHOO that really hit me deep as an asian. people think its funny but you know the real intention is because its an easy target, and a quick way to make someone feel embarrassed but you know you can get away with it because apparently all asians are quiet and shy. y'all know its the truth

      @TheStroomis Sure, everybody gets mocked in high school. But to go be mocked specifically because of your race is a whole other thing. Something that only people of color will understand. Something that extends far beyond high school. Maybe we'll stop being the victims when we stop being targeted.

    This movie was probably the best movie netflix has made yet. It's so realistic and shows the life of everyday teens trying to find love. And the chemistry between the characters and actors feel like they known each other for years. One of the best movie I have ever seen, hands down. Thank you netflix and Alice Wu for this amazing movie.

      I kinda confused tho, i mean the football guy had a crush on the brunette girl, then he ask the asian girl to help and eventually he flipped for the asian girl, then the asian girl had a lot of common interest with the brunette girl so they became a best friend, but idk why she kissed her? And at the end asian girl finally fell for the football guy right? Because she is crying when they had to separated.

Like I don't know why if she even was into him, why he would think it is perfectly ok to kiss her without her express permission? impulse maybe but he should have apologized immediately and not screamed at her that she was gonna go to hell now. sure, way to make her feel like she has something to be ashamed of. That whole scene was set up in a bizarre way.
