Fond of Wyatt since Matching Mole period, forced my jazz/blues band to perform this song in the middle of our version of Coltrane's "Love Supreme". Very appreciated!

This version of Gharbzadegi, from the 2002 Robert Wyatt documentary "Free Will and Testament", is a complete and utter treat, a six-and-a-half-minute journey through musical paradise. I consider Robert Wyatt to be one of the foremost of living British musicians and composers, and I think that my opinion is justified on this piece of music alone, without even considering any of his other wonderful material.

He's a special man, as is his beloved Alfie (contributing lyrics and artwork) He stressed to me that his process was meticulous and this live combination pulls it off wonderfully. I share your view.

Coltrane´s A Love Supreme goes to a new world through the unique Wyatt´s falsetto, musicianship, imagination. Glorious.

I have this album, but have never seen Robert Wyatt perform. I like this song,...what a treat to see it played!! I love this aspect of You Tube!!!! It is a great time to be alive. Instant knowledge,..Instant gratification. Like a dream come true. Matching Mole and Soft Machine rule,...Robert Wyatt,...a distinctive artist.

When dear Robert Wyatt leaves us for his beautiful Eternal Mansion...I will fucking CRY like a Baby! So many Huge losses in the past few years - Great Visionary, and Singular Artists: Mark Hollis...Scott Walker - Wyatt is still amongst us, even though I hear that he is ceasing Musical activity. If there is ONE Human Being I would Love to meet, and have a chat with, it is THIS Man! He is the Wise Uncle I have Never had! I LOVE You, Mr. Wyatt!

It's so easy to decide on a name
    it's a name caller's game
It's so easy to look down from above
    Helicopter vision
Get the picture when you're outside the frame
    Retrospective my eye
Call it art and you can say what you like
    it's a name caller's game
Your perspective describes where I stand
Out of line, out of mind
    Calling myopia 'focus', of course,
    makes it easier still
    Gharbzadegi means nothing to me
    Westernitis to you

All these years later, and playing this on max vol, I keep putting this recording and this video in my top 3. Has it really been almost forty years? Wyatt and his flux of musical allies have been the background to my life. This video makes me love them all again. What would I pay for a cleaned-up hi-res DVD of this session? It is still comforting to see other fans expressing the same view. BTW. I recent;ly bought and devoured the Robert Wyatt biography by Marcus O'Dair ("Different Every Time") and it is terrific: moving and comprehensive.

Gharbzadegi is still a valid and true concept.
Western strategic hegemony is intimately tied to making other countries capitalistic and then trading with them. Countries, like Thailand, come to imitate the Western models and Western criteria in education, the arts, and culture; through the transformation of such countries into post-industrial capitalisms, they turn into a passive market for Western goods and a pawn in Western geopolitics, hence why sex tourism is viewed positively by Houellebecq. It strengthens the dollar and the West at the expense of the dignity of other countries. Persian intellectuals, even before the 1979 revolution when they were Westernized by the CIA-controlled dictator Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, called it “Westoxification” (Gharbzadegi). It will eventually come to an end though.
What bothered me about Houellebecq's Platform was how it approved sex tourism in Thailand because it defends the actions on account the prostitutes are paid. Therefore, in Houellebecq’s views, it’s okay for a tourist agency to promote sex tourism because it spreads commerce. I predicted an ******* like Houellebecq would emerge who uses doublespeak as a way to implicitly defend his desire for Western hegemony, based off how it supports his carnal desires.
