i have cried many times to this and other hammill songs over the past few years, and yet without him it could've been so much worse. i feel eternally indebted to his artistry.

I was warned against prog rock as a young listener, for reasons that actually made it sound really interesting. I was therefore disappointed to find that most of the loci classici of the genre didn't act or sound anything like they were supposed to do. Discovering Van der Graaf relatively late in life is a bit of a Holy Grail situation.
My favorite piece from VDGG. There's something very special about it. Hard to describe, but makes me emotional every time I listen to it. Peter looks like he's in some sort of trance. People attending know that something magic is happening, nice to see their expression evolve as they get caught in the lyrism of all this. Beautiful.
I don't believe there is anything they have written that I have not liked. Shame they no longer have Dave on sax there are some tracks that his sound just make it special.

Great song , great band . One of the best Prog bands , Van Der Graaf were so unique and different . Up there with Gentle Giant , Soft Machine and Caravan as my personnal favourites .
Van der graff are a great band capable of building real musical epics, this song is an example. Beautiful sonic texture, Hammil's voice thrilling, and that crescendo ending brings tears.
VDGG did many great songs but I feel this is their strongest song and album. It has a suppers ready vibe to it with the grandiose ending with strong organ lifting it beyond magical.

I was So so lucky to see the band in November 1976 on the World Record tour at Leeds Grand theatre, absolutely stunning and not just a gig but a memory for life 👌 Can't wait to get the Box set 😁😁
Hi Andy I was there too. I was stunned by the power and energy they had. (Since leant that Hugh had bad tooth ache on that tour) It was my first live show of theirs. Have been smitten ever since. Unique, no other band like them. Hammill is a genius.

I was so lucky to get born that year :) And this is most likely the best 1976 song ever. There are better pieces, but not from 1976. I wish this one to be reproduced during my funeral. Not just because the text fits to my view of such event ;) It seems to be... apropriate.

Oh wow, This album blew me away last year. I recently bought box set of first album and LOVED it. You guys are in my top bands. My favorite bands are Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer. I am also a huge Dio fan. Van der Graaf lyrics and music are untouchable and truly great

Peter Hamill surely was the first Shakespearian frontman both in his wonderful poetry and his inimitable delivery on stage.
For all their darkness and angst, this band kept me alive in a very difficult period

An incredible band with such talented musicians and then Peter with all his solo albums too. Just remarkable and still sounds fresh.
