Robert Wyatt is one of the greatest musicians ever lived.. his solo album, Rock Bottom is considerd one of the best albums of all time.. in my opinion he was the best drummer in the 60s until he became paralyzed in the lower body
Probably one of the best cello players I have heard in some time..and to be in a rock concert too! David Gilmore is one outstanding artist and a blessing of our era. Thanks David!
With all the horrific crap we face in the future, Isn't it great that these Musicians give us these moments of sonic comfort and Joy? Thank you all so much.
how indescribably gentle, sweet and exquisitely vulnerable. we make our art until we no longer breathe. it is our imperative, whether we have an audience of a few or millions.
He doesn't look it but his biography describes him as being extremely nervous whenever he sang live. He is hiding in the back in this video. He's a cute genius.
Or maybe there's no easy access to the stage. It's another reason he stopped performing altogether, he was fed up with this bullshit, he resents having to be helped, and very few venues have a ramp to the stage
Matthew Ahrens They were a lot closer back in the sixties. A lot of material from, 'Piper at the Gates..." sounds congruent with Matching Mole. Rog kinda put a more relatable direction on that school. There were a lot of interrelated musicians in London (I think) about that time and it even extended to the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. It was an extremely influential school in Rock and Roll history.
curiosity is never ignorance. I think Wyatt has been one of the best jazz-rock musicians ever lived (unfortunately less celebrated than others). look for the first three albums of Soft Machine, his other project called Matching Mole ("Oh Caroline" is the best rock ballad of all times in my opinion) and his solo masterpiece "Rock Bottom".
So hilarious that there are actually comments saying that Gilmour is more prolific and inventive than Wyatt... Might want to look into the history of both of their careers; you'll see that Wyatt has made more albums and has been related to more masterpieces of art than Gilmour has dreamed of.
Sweet - only 10% of the audience know who the f**k Robert Wyatt is - then the other 90% applaud when Gilmore kicks in as they feel that 'comfortably numb' feeling of recognition!!! My, we are shallow!
I know what you mean by the way it comes across here, but I was at this gig and you could barely see Wyatt unless you were sat at the very front. The thing that I found horrible was that there didn't seem to be any disabled access for him to be wheeled onto the stage. A very memorable night and it's great to see it was recorded so well and now uploaded here.
I probably have listened to that song at least 10.000 times, pre-album versions, studio versions, live versions, learned every note of it on guitar, but it still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it!
It's amazing the artists who have contributed to Comfortably Numb, David has played with Robert Wyat and David Bowie, while Roger has played with Van Morrison and The Band, the talent of Pink Floyd is so masterful that the legends have contributed to this golden musical artwork
A bit of trivia. At a party in 1969 Robert fell from a second story window somewhere in France. Pink Floyd held a benefit concert to try and get him back on his feet. He4 is in a wheel chair and continued to play drums despite his handicap- he is a paraplegic and he inspired me to play drums again after I had a below the knee amputation on the left side and it still hurts like hell 2.5 years after the fact. He was a big inspiration. Thank you.
I love when he switches guitars for the solos. He just cranks that electric andwails on that shit.Simply priceless.I would sell my soul to hear that shit live.
i was already a Canterbuty heart when Rocky Bottom camevout: bought new vynil when i saw it.... look at the all-star line-up! to the turntable it wasva long qait. and i felt the terrible sadness. in the everglades of miami fla we didnt get some news.
If only Soft Machine was more popular... I don't blame Wyatt for leaving when they decided to play instrumental music, his voice is still beautiful to this day. It's nice to see David Gilmour, an artist who is much more well known and respected than Wyatt, giving him some recognition. I'm just sad that Wyatt broke his legs, he wasn't too bad a drummer, either.
Someone said it before, it is not about the speed, it is about the feel of it all ... Gilmour is a guitar god and no one has its sound signature or sound ...
More importantly than Robert Wyatt's vocals, is that Michael Kamen us playing the piano. He did the orchestral arrangements on The Wall and specifically this song. He sadly passed away in 2008.
I feel somewhat slighted or better said, a sense of intrusion, reading all the recently posted comments. I have been a Robert Wyatt fan since 1988 and have privately enjoyed hiz "Soft/solo" stuff, seemz Gilmour haz brought a spotlight on. (all in jest, the more the merry with Mr. Wyatt)
Well put, ashbyboy! I'd say, myself, I could hear RW sing any cookbook recipe!... It triggers the same effect in me as listening to Gong making -having a cup of tea- a real psychedelic experience! (Gong-Angel's egg album-Outer,Inner Temple tracks)... but on a rather more different and uplifting level!!! ;-) God bless you, Robert!...
It is so sad to read some of these nit-picking comments below. They are ruthless and hostile towards people and their imperfection. But the beauty and wisdom of this performance lies just in its imperfection; it is in its weakness. Because we all are weak and imperfect. Think about it before you criticize.
Meltdown is the word when i hear this 2nd solo it just leaves me a drooling mess in my chair,my soul rocked the f**k out a me an just left the packaging when i hear that sound again weather im goin upstairs or down i'll go headfirst, and i don't care who's captain's ship i sail on for that final ride
Just let me say this who ever plays or sings with David Gilmour is because that musician is a very talented person and Robert Wyatt is a very talented musician and person
I like how David Gilmour's solos are always fairly true to the original recording. A lot of guitarists do solos so completely different to the studio recording the song is almost unrecognizable.
David Gilmour's voice is just sublime. Don't know where I'd place him in my top 5 male singers- there's him, Nick Drake, Paul Buchanan, Elvis Costello and Peter Gabriel. Probably 1. Buchanan; 2. Drake; 3. Gilmour; 4. Costello; 5. Gabriel. Oh no: Robbie Robertson! Can't omit him!
This was the reason I bought the David Gilmour DVD that included this. Nothing against Roger Waters., he is fantastic in his own right, but I prefer Robert Wyatts unique approach to vocals.
Robert was one of my dads best friends an collaborated with him on "Rock Bottom" , and "Ruth is stranger than Richard",as well as many live projects.....Check out Robert"s music .. peace
@SRNF That's what I was saying. I said David Gilmours solos are ALWAYS true to the original. That means he does the same thing in every live show. It's a well known guitar riff, because it's what he did on the record. He knows enough to play it live too. Not every guitarist does this. Terry Kath, of Chicago, when he would play the famous guitar solo that everyone recognizes on 25 or 6 to 4 would play something completely different each time. Nothing like what was on the record.
Robert Wyatt is a freaking legend. The way he sings/speaks is actually perfect for this
It's just something about the way Wyatt is singing that makes this version so magical.
Absolutely.
And by "magical", you mean "shit," right?
Nick w79 somebody doesn’t understand wyatt’s charm
What's so special hes just speaking the lyrics
To understand Robert Wyatt, you have to listen to his album Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard.
Robert Wyatt is one of the greatest musicians ever lived..
his solo album, Rock Bottom is considerd one of the best albums of all time.. in my opinion he was the best drummer in the 60s until he became paralyzed in the lower body
Agreed 1000 percent
Thank you
Correct!
instablaster.
Oh God, Wyatt's vocals brought me to tears. Absolutely brilliant.
These wonderful musicians from the late 20th Century post-Beatles culture are totally inspiring, lightofdae! Love & Light
Your comment from 2016....if only you knew!
This is truly Mr. Gilmour's song. Great to see Mr. Wyatt. Beautiful clip. Thank You!
Damn, Robert Wyatt singing the "I can get you on your feet again" line...
Right. Also, "can you show me where it hurts", "I have become comfortably numb". Pretty much the whole lyrics. Damn.
how indescribably gentle, sweet and exquisitely vulnerable. we make our art until we no longer breathe. it is our imperative, whether we have an audience of a few or millions.
Robert Wyatt , un musico para sacarce el sombrero
David Gilmour, la Genialidad y la simpleza!! una conbinacion superior!
Robert is f*cking brilliant! Legend x
Splendid version! This is a masterpiece, but with the voice of Robert Wyatt this is just incredible!!!
I hope that nobody will be offended. :(
Nicolas Pirson No worries You have a stellar mind Don't stress about what others think about you Keep Shining mate 💎💎💎💎✌💗
THX
Just bloody brilliant

What a delicious moment. Thanks David and Robert
ma è una meraviglia ascoltare la voce di Robert in questa canzone ineguagliabile
Robert Wyatt and David Gilmour should do alot of concerts together. #PinkFloydWontDieOut
Matthew Ahrens They were a lot closer back in the sixties. A lot of material from, 'Piper at the Gates..." sounds congruent with Matching Mole. Robert Wyatt is a god.
Robert Wyatt is a legend.
an amazing talent. then and now. his drumming alone was powerful.
Wahnsinn! Die meiner Meinung nach beste, gefühlvollste Version dieses Songs!
curiosity is never ignorance.
What a fantastic version
Yep, this is Robert! :)

wideeyedandfretless I'd have to say that you are unbelievably cool for knowing who he is. Wow, just wow. I am not worthy.
You bellend.
I like this performance very much. Thank you for uploading it. I would not have heard it without your help.
David & Robert...couple of old friends that also happen to be legends in rock...
I probably have listened to that song at least 10.000 times, pre-album versions, studio versions, live versions, learned every note of it on guitar, but it still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it!
ok but what bout this performance ?
This song is more than awesome
Robert Wyatt is amazing, another level, he is one of the best muscal genius ever, like for example, hermeto pasocual, another genius
Love Wyatt's vocals for this. It's a nice take on it.
Sr. Wyatt es usted uno de los grandes !!!!!
David is so nice ... notice how he smiles at everyone onstage with him -- at other performers and people in his band, and the audience.
plus de 20 ans d'écoute et ces textes sont toujours aussi puissants ... formidable interprétation ... j'adore ...
ok but music is not an interpretation of texts
It's amazing the artists who have contributed to Comfortably Numb, David has played with Robert Wyat and David Bowie, while Roger has played with Van Morrison and The Band, the talent of Pink Floyd is so masterful that the legends have contributed to this golden musical artwork
I seriously can't believe this actually happened.
Due grandissimi. Rob & David forever
merveilleux deux tres tres grands messieurs !!!!
This is a totally perfect rendition of an epic song.
At the meltdown. You guys that gave this a thumbs down should be ashamed of yourself great unplugged version
Wonderful duo !
I shed tears when the guitar cried.
So very good; like an extraordinary flower or an exotic vine of such beauty that you cannot explain your admiration in words.
It is always fantastic to hear the probably mosted skilled drummer ever using what is left
they've become old and we too, but we've not grown so bad after all, we're still soft heart ain't we? in this very hard and tough fleeting world!
A bit of trivia. At a party in 1969 Robert fell from a second story window somewhere in France. Pink Floyd held a benefit concert to try and get him back on his feet. this version is incredible!

awesome version-Robert Wyatt plays 'the doctor' perfectly...
AND INTRODUCING CELLO. Caroline Dale!!

Uma viajem ao melhor dá música, interpretação, técnica inspiração e qualidade.
The best version of this song EVER!!!
God Dammit that is awesome
Two favorites in one show, great !
Brilliant performance!
Robert's voice tone is excellent for this song
When the greatest minds and scientists of today find a cure for immortality and the same is actually working, it should be given to Sir David
He was the drummer of soft machine a progressive rock band based in Canterbury England.
Someone said it before, it is not about the speed, it is about the feel of it all ... Gilmour is a guitar god and no one has its sound signature or sound ...
Thankyou !
Simply wonderful
when (and if) I am dying - would be good to hear this....xx
The best version ever for me.
I love this
More importantly than Robert Wyatt's vocals, is that Michael Kamen us playing the piano. He did the orchestral arrangements on The Wall and specifically this song. He sadly passed away in 2008.
david gilmour's voice sounds like new. his voice in this song reminds me of the ascent to heaven

fantastic!it's very good
Oh my god, Gilmour's voice is just glorious...
Both their voices sound so complementary. I wished they did more stuff together
Guitar masterclass!!!!!
Tout simplement superbissime !!!!

from Portugal simplesmente genial
I saw him on The On An Island Tour. I never actually knew why he was in a wheel-chair. Now I do, thanks.
I love the song and on this occasion I also love the cellist
Meltdown is the word when i hear this 2nd solo
it just leaves me a drooling mess in my chair,my soul rocked the f**k out a me an just left the packaging when i hear that sound again weather im goin upstairs or down i'll go headfirst, and i don't care who's captain's ship i sail on for that final ride

Robert Wyatt was the lead singer and drummer of SOFT MACHINE
Yann Mounier one of the greatest bands ever
Caroline of Chello totally melts my heart man. Adorable is she!

The music of Pink Floyd becomes more classical as time goes by......
A great concert with wonderful musicians in a perfect setting........
