Again, great video from you guys. Love it. I just hope you guys would make the full use of the 3 months visa free stay here in Malaysia. It would really be nice if you could really go off the beaten track like visiting Kelantan or Terengganu or even Kedah and Perlis for a truly localised atmosphere. And later, come back for a second visit to the Borneo/East Malaysia experience. That would absolutely make the chapter of your Malaysian journey completed. Well, almost I'd say. 😁

Before western colonisation, Melaka was one of the greatest trading port in asia. It was a center of trading point between far east and middle east region. That is how Melaka Straits got its name and still is one of the busiest straits in the world.

FYI, the hole with the cage on top at the far end of the St Paul's church is actually St Francis Xavier's temporary place of rest... He died in Macau (if I am not mistaken) or one of the islands of China but his will stated that he wanted to buried in Goa. So on the way of bringing back the body to Goa, they had to stop in Melaka, as they have to wait for the southeasterly wind to sail to Goa. They buried the body without a coffin, then it was exhume wheen they decide to bring it back to Goa. So that I have been told.

I suggest you visit Kampung Morten, the Portuguese Settlement at Padang Temu, and also some Museums such as the Sultan of Melaka's Palace, The Declaration of Independence Museum...or go out of town to Mini Malaysia, Ayer Keroh.
Also take at least a day trip to Muar with stops at Pantai Siring (forfried battered seafood) esp in the afternoon or ikan Bakar (grilled fish/seafood) at night. Alternatively you can also go to Umbai floating restaurant, Parameswara Ikan Bakar or Muara Duyung - closer to Melaka.

That little island is known for some ancient tombs belonged to religious preachers and a place to perform mystic rituals. Also, in Melaka, there are many historical places such as museums that not commonly visited by tourists.

A little note of history of the destruction of the Portuguese Fort in Malacca.
The temporary handover of Malacca to the British, in trust, was made in 1795 to avoid Dutch colonial lands falling into the hands of Napoleon Bonaparte who declared war on the Netherlands. But the British took advantage and started demolishing the Dutch fortified, Portuguese Fort so that the Dutch would not be able to fight to get Malacca back. It took a long time to destroy the Fort due to it's solid construction. Sir Stamford Raffles from Singapore, whilst on sick leave in Malacca, intervened on hearing loud explosions, to stop the demolition. However, he was rather late, and so we are left with just some remnants of the once majestic A Famosa Fort.

Melaka is the most strategic and most advance port in southeast asia 500 years before Singapore and ww2 . it is the gate to East asia. Malacca hay day was during Malacca sultanate that was supported by Acheh sultanate (north sumatra) army and Demak Sultanate Army ( Jakarta today) .Malacca became so rich that the Portuguese writer and trader Tome Pires said "Whoever is lord of Malacca shall have his hands on the throat of Venice". Melaka lost the war against Portuguese . Then Portuguese lost the war to dutch that cooperate with the new sultanate Johor Riau that rise from Mallacca Sultanate Remains fraction. Then bigger power came which is british. Then Singapore took the crown as the busiest and advance port. In ww2 you can see how fast Japanese want to get to Singapore for control over the strait , Until today Straits of Malacca still being the chokepoint and fight for dominance in global south between China and US.
