Melaka is my hometown. And we welcome you guys big time. Very smart decision to visit Melaka on weekdays. We Malaccan will hide ourselves from entering the unesco city center on the weekend giving space to the tourist. Weekdays the Melaka is owned back by Malaccan people. ❤❤
Gula Melaka it doesn't mean the sugar from Melaka, but its one of the name for palm sugar. Since Melaka used to be an international entreport, palm sugar is one of the famous item that being trade at that time other than spices. The sugar extract from palm tree, in the East Coast of Malaysia we call it as Nisan sugar, in Sarawak Borneo they call it as Gula Apong and in Indonesia as Gula Jawa.
Malaysian here, I rarely comment on your vids but I found your channel during Covid days and was one of the early subscribers when you guys moved to Samui. I remember binge watching you guys and 2 Passport 1 Dream, as someone who loves travelling myself, I've thoroughly enjoy your adventures. Hope you enjoyed your time in Malaysia and looking forward to more content! Congrats on your land purchase btw!
You two lovebirds are really fun to watch, you both exude very positive vibes even when staring at some difficulty or unexpected turn, you have that make-the-best-of-what's-available attitude, love it, simply amazing! Oh wait you two were in/with amazing race asia right??? We definitely welcome people like you two anytime with open arms, _terima kasih_ for visiting malaysia again, and _terima kasih_ too for the kind praises 👍 Have really good fun and stay safe ✌️
Wow, this whole video is just a vibe. Well done, Flora and Note. Wonderful to see you both enjoying this UNESCO Heritage City/Melaka. Thanks for sharing.
Hi guys, thanks for the video. I’ve seen plenty of vloggers go there but your video tonight gave me great joy. You seemed to really enjoy yourself and was happy to be there. I was born there but live in Australia. I consider Malacca my second home and miss the place n the food. Your video made me very happy. Thank you so much. 😃👍🏼
Wow … million thanks to both of U for making Melaka soooo beautiful ❤ Oh yeah what a great choice of staying @ 1825 Hotel Gallery. It’s looks so cozy inside. Melaka people are very laid back & super friendly & helpful too. Enjoy 👍🏻
I'm from Melaka and I'm Buddhist too but went to sacred heart and convent infant Jesus sch. Every Friday we have to go to the chapel and yet Im still not a Catholic or Christian 😂 i grow up on 11 JonkerStreet 😅
Flora and Note I love this second part series in Malaysia. I'm so glad to see you both enjoying Malaysia doing this summer time. Flora and Note you both should visit the towers in Malaysia when you get a chance.
Although I have been to Malacca countless times, been to most of the places that you highlighted but always nice to hear from a different perspective. Cheers mates!
❤ **Greetings from Melaka!** I'm so glad to hear that you visited Melaka. As someone born and raised here, and part of the Peranakan Baba Nyonya community, I love sharing the rich culinary heritage of my hometown. While the place you dined at may not have provided the most authentic experience, there's so much more to explore. I recommend venturing out of the typical tourist areas to discover truly authentic Peranakan cuisine. Melaka is home to many hidden gems that offer genuine and delicious Peranakan dishes, reflecting the rich heritage and flavors that our culture is known for. If you're ever back in Melaka and looking to try more Peranakan food, I'd be happy to share some good places.
Another great video, guys!!!! Yes, I loved Melaka too when I was exploring possible retirement spots in Malaysia. Penang won out only because I felt there were more Western level hospitals and medical care in Penang. Gotta do the river cruise at night and of course hit Jonker street at night.
Enjoy and wait for your new vloggs. I liked when Note was singing that Thai song. The food look so yummy n d watermelon looked super red. Love it guys n Love You
Thank you for your good review cause i ever watch a japanese UA-camrs maybe he didn't do some searching he said melaka is boring, it just small old town travel, but when finding the good vloggers like u guys i think whole video u guys really had a good capture
Fyi, the gula Melaka is from the coconut flower's nectar and they cook till it becomes thick and form brown colour sugar.. it's definitely sweet, tasty and nice flavour..
Fyi, this year is the Visit Malacca year 2024.. Malacca Historical City was awarded as the cleanest city in Malaysia recently 🇲🇾 St Paul Hill's name was Bukit Melaka (Malacca Hill) It's believe that A Famosa was built on a ruined mosque (the mosque was destroyed by Portuguese) Malacca people are super friendly and warm.. they're lucky to have cute guests like you as cheerful visitors ..👍🇲🇾
Gula Malacca is made from palm flower, hence the name palm sugar. It taste different to cane sugar. It is the key ingredients in Malaysian dessert which gives it a very distinctive flavour.
I will be going to Malaka in October for the first time to a tattoo convention, this was a timely video for me. I saw you both by Lotus’s On Nut by my condo but did not want to bother you guys.
Looks ‘WonderFlo!’ 😁love all the colorful bldgs., good looks a little different, squishy dessert lol. How’s the weather so far? And off we go… my son was finally acknowledging he payed attention coz I talk about you all the time, so what country they ping pong off too now? Lol safe travels thank you!🙏🏻❤️🦩💨
You are trying authentic Melaka food. Achar is good ...pickle veg. Chendol is a good dessert...here is special . They hv branches in the Shopping Mall ...one shop in One Utama ...Petaling Jaya.
Hello, we have decided to add Malacca to our trip after watching this video. Can we please have the details of the driver / company you used? Thank you and love your work!
You did a great job at video editing! And now I remember, Flora truly reminds me of the Hollywood actress, Constance Wu! Don't you think? The resemblance is uncanny! 😀😀 Somehow I can see you as an actress too! Have a great day guys! Take care ❤ 🇲🇾
The plates you ate fried chicken and beef rendang are unique to Malaysia. Gula Melaka is palm sugar with Melaka origins but is used elsewhere, even outside of Malaysia.
If you go on a weekday, you do miss the main tourist crowds, but you also miss the Jonker Walk night market, which, if I'm not mistaken, opens only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
What's your next destination in Malaysia? Johor Bahru? Go visit Tanjung Piai in Johor, Malaysia. It is the southernmost point of Peninsular Malaysia and thus the most southern point of Asia Continent!
During my childhood days we were swimming in that river and at the river mouth was the only loading wharf for imported goods like rice, tea coming from China via Singapore. Everything has got to be off loaded using human walking on a plank with rice sacks on their shoulder crossing the river. They local authorities wanted to start a so called river market to increase tourism like those in Thailand but had been unsuccessful due to lack of interest.
The river has been cleaned up. Malacca, Penang, Phuket, Medan, Singapore were once the economic centres of Fujian migrants where Hokkien was the lingua franca.
To be correct, Malay was a lingua franca since 15th century not Hokkien, Hokkien only among Chinese immigrants who came later brought by British colonial, so please dont change the history of this region and Malaysia especially.
@@hafizhassan9786Correct. Malay was the lingua franca from the tip of the Malay peninsula and Sumatra Island until to the western part of Papua New Guinea. Even the Dutch in West Indies (now Indonesia) adopted Malay as the lingua franca over Javanese due to its wide usage in the Malay Archipelago.
The Portuguese made most of their money from custom taxes on other traders arriving in Melaka.....the Chinese, Arabs, Indians and Javanese etc. and not just from Portuguese trading of spices, silk etc. Goods would be transferred from boat to boat going east to China, Japan, Mexico etc or west to India, Arabia, Europe etc.
Question: I've noticed at some restaurants that you use a spoon/fork combo to cut meat rather than a knife. Is this a custom, just a preference or for some other reason? Initially I thought it was because the dishes you were eating had bite size pieces and the meat tender enough to tear apart with a spoon; but, then Note used this method to cut fried chicken. Thanks
There were conflicts between the Malaysian government and the Chinese minority in Malaysia. They actually killed a lot of Chinese because they were good business people and the government felt that Chinese controlled too much of the economy of Malaysia and the government decided to persecute the Chinese minority. That is the reason the country of Singapore was form. That is why people in Singapore speaks mandarin. Now different ethnic groups live peacefully together but it was not that way in the past. The universities in Malaysia limit the number of Chinese students they accept into their universities; thus, many of them have to study outside of Malaysia. Believe many Chinese were killed by the Malaysian government.

Most tourists miss St Peter’s Church too. At least it got a mention in their video tonight.👍🏼
St John's fort as well
