A very deep message for us all. I'm in my 70s and only recently quit taking too much responsibility for other adults. I feel much happier since I quit overdoing that.
I hear you Janet. I'm in my 60s and have just started to take care of myself and I have started reluctantly saying no to people. It is really hard to say no and I have to remind myself sometimes things are just non of my business.
How did you manage it? I'm over seventy and find it high on impossible to put myself before others and as a result tell no one about my struggles, mentally with the fears lockdown has brought. (Am classed as vulnerable and at risk)
@@ElsieJoy39 Well, Ladies, I had an awakening! I'd had a couple of life threatening illnesses in my 60s. I was exhausted and needed to heal myself. But many of the adults around me were takers, users and narcissists. They kept draining me emotionally and financially with nothing but broken promises and guilt tripping coming back my way. I had to gradually cut those people out of my life and concentrate on the good folks that I could trust. I learned to say no without guilt and to live unentangled. Those demanding family members have tried to shame and smear me when I would no longer do their bidding. But I know my truth and I live by it. Nobody has the right to
After bringing up 5 children I'm retired 2 years now and trying to enjoy life. I find myself completely different to my family on every level, but have to live with estranged husband and two of the lads who can't leave. Friction is never too far away. I try to live outdoors as much as possible, walking, foraging and just being me. I care for our planet and feel close to it. So I understand your issues. Somehow we'll find a way to be happy 😘
This can be the biggest struggle when you have small children. Guilt and a sense of duty can take over. I try to remind myself that you can't give what you don't have. I can always tell when I need self care the most because my patience is the first thing to suffer and patience is key in parenting. Self care is a gift not only to yourself but to all those around you. Even a ten minute break to have a warm cup of coffee can make a big difference...i'm doing that right now:)Thanks for the lovely video!
So true Eugenia, one definitely has to work harder to remind yourself when you have kids. You are wise to do that and your kids will thank you for it when they are older. Happy mum happy kids in the long term.
I always said that guilt is the most useless human emotion there is! Especially in this situation. Even small children need to know you have limits. Mommy's tired now and can't play. After she has her coffee and rests a bit while you play quietly, we'll do something fun.
My daughter and her husband have an only child and he was pretty naughty and stubborn when he was little. One day near tears, she said she'd yelled at him and felt so bad about herself. I hugged her and said "Oh Honey, if he were my child I fear I'd be tempted to do a whole lot more than yell at him!" Coming from me who had raised her without physical discipline, I think she got the point.
I agree with everything you said, but especially the part about “minding our own business”. I think one of the biggest problems today is everyone judging each other especially online, where we don’t know anything about these peoples lives or what they have gone through.
I have a lot of friends that are constantly giving (total enneagram type 2s lol) and are always getting sick, suffering emotionally and having issues with relationships. It’s so important. To some it comes naturally, for others it is so hard! self-care is so vital because we can’t give to others from empty cup. We have to be our own best friend - love that you mentioned that 🌱 And I love how you incorporate important life ideas with beautiful filmmaking. 💕 🥰
For me self care is a journey - I start that some time ago and still have a good distance to go, but I try to learn something along this way. I come from the point that I put everyone first rather than myself, someone needs, mood wishes were more important than my dreams, thoughts and take me some time to learn that it does not need to be that way, now I try to implement some of the self-care habits to daily life and slowly, but steadily fulfill my goals. Thank you for this video, that reminds me that I am on a good path.
Thank you Niamh for another nurturing video. It took me many years to learn self care. I was a nurse, wife, mother and grandmother. Now as I am retired and on my own and do take care of myself more. I moved to where I wanted to live, not too far from the kids now parents of their own but just far enough, I live across from a huge lake and enjoy that view every day, along with the birds singing in the mornings. I eat when and what I choose and spend time doing what I like. Seems selfish to me but I am quite happy and feel I earned this. I am a better mother and grandmother now.
This is my favorite place to come so when I'm well enough I come and always feel better when I leave . I've never experienced a group of women who are so loving and kind. I love watching you making bread and tea and your walks! Even tho I cannot do those things anymore I live vicariously thru you! Warm loving hugs from Vermont!
I’m finding that the way I treat myself will be pretty much exactly the way I end up treating others. The last few years, I have been treating myself way, way better, and consequently I have been bringing a much more loving, peaceful, and joyful presence into all my contacts. It really is true that taking responsibility for yourself is the most unselfish thing you can do - thank you for that thought, it is absolutely profound.
I expect I'll be well someday. Its fathers day Husband died June 1st Unexpectedly, 62. Adult kids (7) are all over the map. I am alone. Chronic illnesses Wont burden others.ppl hate to be disturbed.. People dont hate to be disturbed...not the right people. Pray & ask God to out those right people in you & your children's life who will show up for you all. They're out there.
Lovely film, thank you. My great aunt who lived til she was 96 always said 'look after your food' which I took to mean, eat good things and take care of yourself (and the odd treat too!). Her sister, my nan, always said 'do your own thing' which I think was also about being good to yourself and not always doing for others and meeting other's expectations. Both women looked after their families and didn't always have easy lives but had obviously learnt wisdom in their later years which I try and take in to my life everyday. It's good to get a lovely reminder of these things through the gorgeous Fairyland videos. xx
This video is one of the best ones I've seen. Thank you for sharing so much of this wisdom, love and mindset with us. Your channel is quite healthy, to put it one way.
Loved the unique perspective on self care in this video. I did not think of it before how self care improves our relationships by making us less dependent. That's so true! Trying to get others to meet our needs can be very frustrating and make one feel lost and powerless.... If we can find a way to meet our own needs, then we can put healthy boundaries and learn to say no without explanation! This is where I needed help the most and thanks to this beautiful video I realized when you have your own needs met, you will have more focus on yourself and not get 'entangled' in others' web of distractions but be available for them with honesty. Thank you so much, this refreshed my view of self care, looking forward to putting in practice some self care time in my day.
Congratulations, the video was beautiful, its decoration involves a constant beauty in the simplicity of the objects. Keep shining a Fraternal hug for you.
Good morning fairyland! Self care is so important in these times of unrest. The amount of stress that is prevalent can be overwhelming. Thank you once again for your calm soothing input.
I'm around your age and I live in a convent. You have to be my favourite youtuber of all time! I look forward to watching one or two of your videos each week on my rest day, and I'm often recommending your channel to others. I think you are such a good role model and inspiration to others and you say some very important things about slowing down and mindfulness and being more connected with nature. Thank you so much for all the love and beauty and good advice that you put into your videos. x
I’m going through a big change that exactly embodies all you talked about. It is so nice to have this video because it is a reminder and a validator of what I know inside. It can be hard in the moment to stay true to self care and preservation and remember all of this wisdom. Having videos like this really helps because it’s always there to watch again and isn’t fought back by ego-mind thoughts like this message would likely be if it were just our inner voice telling us this. Thank you for your wisdom and clarity🙏🏽✌🏽💓💞
Yes, you r so right. Even my own doctor adviced me once , that I need to take care , prioritize myself first or often to be able to take care of others. We need to have a fraction of our daily life as "me time". Thanks for your advices🌷.
Hello from Adelaide South Australia. Discovered your page recently which I’m thoroughly enjoying. I made your Lentil chilli dish (which will be a weekly staple for sure) and apple crumble recipes today. Both truly delicious. Couldn’t agree more regarding the importance of self care and it’s those simple things in life which offer that in abundance. The enjoyment from your page is one of those, so thank you for being generous enough with your time to share with us :)
Morning everyone hope you all start this morning with this soothing video. Thank you.for keeping these videos coming so calm and relaxing. Blessed b. Carole
WELL SAID!! :) This was presented perfectly, and I wish I had heard it about 8 years ago at the beginning of my divorce from my violent husband, and caring for my sweet little boy (6 at the time). I had to go back into the workforce (2 hr commute each way), juggle caregivers for my son so he could still be homeschooled, managing his homeschool work each day before leaving the house at 7:30 am, and then dealing with a divorce, and constant threats from my ex-husband...the stress was almost unbearable. I never put my health first (I felt "selfish" if I did that) and after six years of "living" (existing) that way, I hit a brick wall and my health declined rapidly. I quit that crazy job and commute two years ago to be back home w my son, and my body is still trying to recover. YES, PLEASE TAKE TIME TO CARE FOR YOURSELF EACH DAY!! :) Life is PRECIOUS and our health is EVERYTHING! :) You could have millions of dollars in your bank account, but what is it worth if you lose your health and quality of life? It's worth NOTHING. This was a beautiful video, and wonderful reminder to SLOW DOWN. Thank you!!! :) xo
@@FairylandCottage Thank you dear! x And thank you for your beautiful videos!! :) As soon as I hear your soothing "Hello there" my blood pressure drops a few levels! :) Enjoy this glorious day! :) x
So much wisdom in this video. Your messages are delivered gently and with beautiful imagery, but those in this video can be hard lessons to learn. Thanks for sharing with us 🌸
Compassion fatigue affects many in health care, social work anyone caring or helping. It is seen as counter cultural but self care, especially at this time caring for yourself is a gift to others and to you personally will benefit with better rest, health and well being.
Yes I totally agree self care is vital, especially that we have a little autistic girl and to be there for her we need self care to totally support us in doing that! Beautiful videos and much wisdom here! Blessings to you.
I reminded this to myself today. I have Fibromyalgia & have been doing overtime looking after some lovely but lively children. I asked for a day off tomorrow-& got it! 😊 Not easy to ask, but as a mum & also with 2 fur baby’s I cannot run on an empty vessel as you said! Thankyou! I really needed this! There should be no guilt in self care for physical & mental well being. Blessings 💝
Ah well done you! When you are healthy and cared for your children will see that on some level and learn healthy boundaries too. Well done for being a great mom.
@@FairylandCottage thanks for reply . I just want some guidance by you . I always try to become a good daughter , sibling & a student but, I always think I am not . NO one is happy with me and I am frustrated .I think of others but no one has time for me. I don't know what to do. I want to care for myself but don't know how?
I couldn't agree more Niamh! When I started my own selfcare and evolution Journey, People around me, family especially, though of me as selfish etc. I closed my ears to all those voices and I stayed focused to my own path. It's liberating and more to the point. Thank you for beeing there and sharing your thoughts with us all. Greetings to my lovely Eire . Yiota, Greece.
Such a good video. It is so important to look after ourselves so we can then look after others. I find if I take the time to look after myself, I have far more energy to give to others. Also, I made some elderflower cordial this week too. We found some growing about 5 mins from where we live....I was very happy. Have a great week x
I believe there is a lot of people in these strange times that realise that taking care of your self isn’t such a bad idea. Thanks for a beautiful video with an important message. 🙏
Great ideas. I come from a long line of angry martyrs & you're right, you learn what you see. It's hard to change what has always been, but physically distancing myself from the anger & negativity is helping somewhat.
Thank you ...... also for the great idea to have lunch behind the house in nature. Love your rawfood ...looks a bit like mine. liked to see the "palm cale" in your garden . 🌴 Have a wonderful time for our new peaceful world 💚🌍💚 Katja
I know a lot of your videos are centred around relaxing, taking things slow, self care and sustainability but I have to say that I love and enjoy every single one each week.
Self care has become my number one priority. It makes all the difference. I'm so much more present with myself and the simple this become so much more rich. 💗
Hi Niamh, and as always...your gentle message was perfect timing. I needed to be reminded to put myself first and lead by example. However, compassion is my absolutely favourite word and I tell myself daily in mantra that I am a compassion is my nature and this brings calmness in my home and for my family. I have been preparing this week for my youngest daughters 21st birthday which has made me not take care of myself enough and was too focused on preparations...albeit a very small affair at home with 3 of her friends....and we are truly looking forward to celebrating this special milestone with her. It was so lovely to see you and hear your voice, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have given me. XX
Ah Simone, what a magical milestone for you and your daughter. I’m sure you’ll take a rest after all the celebrations! Enjoy and thanks for loving the video as always xx
I love to be out in nature eating the foods I've grown myself or that grows nearby. Its difficult not to be entangled in other's lives when they have come back to live or won't leave ha ha but in general life can be good if we live simply and get out as often as we can. Leave the housework behind as it will always be there!
so true Fionnula, sometimes people like the hospitality too much ha ha! I'd say if you included them in the housework you'd never see them again ha ha x
Great message! It has taken me a long time to learn to be as kind to myself as I would be to those around me. Very calming video, as always. So look forward to these!
Lovely! God bless you dear..feels so good listening to you..true...need to.stay healthy & strong mentally, physically ,emotionally & spiritually.

Such an important message. I think I will need to watch this video regularly to remind myself about not forgetting to fill my cup everyday. I used to think self-care needed to be expensive and fancy. Since I became a mother I realized that something so trivial as taking a shower can transform me in such a better human 😊 but I'm still learning my boundaries and signs that show that I need a little extra TLC without having to run on empty to know that. beautiful video, as always.
So wise to be aware of the signs that our vessel is getting empty! It’s the little things that make a huge different. Knowing our limits and being ok with that. X
I made some elderflower cordial this week as well. I make it every year and last year I taught the students in the eco-club at school to make it. This week I also made the banana liquid feed and the orange and vinegar cleaning solution. I bought a shampoo bar and a conditioning bar so no more plastic bottles of shampoo in landfill. My son and his partner are moving into an unfurnished house in July and we have been able to rehome some of our excess furniture to help him furnish his new home. I am so pleased to be able to simplify our lives without throwing things away into landfill. Many thanks for these lovely videos I look forward to the next one every week
Thank you for sharing this important topic. And I loved seeing some of the beauty around you. Like a mini vacation for us. Such a gift. Self care has always been hard for me. But I am improving as I age. Love to you.
What a beautiful and peaceful video, yes I try to care for myself and have learnt that it's indeed important, like you say, if I am not well , how can I then look after others. Lovley to watch you always.
My therapist recommended your channel to me a couple weeks ago, I am so grateful she did! You are such a role model and I hope to one day achieve the self love you have 🥰
Just what I needed today after being up all night with my terminally ill 82 year old husband who I am taking care of alone at home. I am 73 years old and had a compassion-fatigue heart attack 3 years ago when he started a 3 year siege of chemotherapy. He requires constant care and attention, is now on morphine & oxygen, and I often feel so exhausted and stressed that I completely skip self care.Today I realized FINALLY that I can’t keep up the illusion of being able to handle all this on my own after I changed my husband’s diapers for the eighth time, cleaned up the mess of his breakfast which he shoved off the table onto the floor in a shattering heap, and the washer over-flowed. I just sobbed uncontrollably for 30 minutes and then called a friend and asked her to please come just sit with him while I took a shower, washed my hair, took a tiny nap, and rested for the first time in months. It was heaven! Hooray for self care! More please!
I hear you. I did this briefly for my sister who died of cancer but was able to get hospice in the final few weeks. Can you get a home care or hospice agency in to give you some time away so you can self care? It is just too much for any one person to bear alone.
Wow you are dealing with a lot. Well done for that care you gave to yourself!! You are the only one who can give it and it’s the asking for support that changes everything so well done for being such a great example.
Exactly what I am working on! i tend to do everything I can for people and they involve me in their drama to help fix it. I went through a divorce after 25 years of marriage and realized not one of them called to see how I was, only if they needed something from me. That is when I decided I must create boundaries and stop participating in helping everyone first before myself.
Such an important message right now. I'm in an area where Coronavirus is spiking, and it's been so hard to keep everyone's needs met. Thanks for the reminder that we can take charge of our own happiness and not wait for others to do it for us! ❤️
self care is probably the most under developed tool that we have in our toolbox! when I think of self care, it is usually about getting a haircut, or maybe going to the chiropractor. This is a subject that is subjective, but also so vast! thank you for the video! I don't think enough about it, because like you stated, it makes me feel like I am being selfish. but... if you are empty, you can't offer anything! xoxo
This video is full of such important reminders regarding our mental health- I loved it! During these troubling times I have been focusing on my mental health and emotional well being a lot! I start my day with yoga and meditation and I end my day with more meditation and journaling. I just started journaling last week. It is really helpful. Thank you so much for providing us such amazing videos :-)
I feel the need of selfcare these days.i struggle often, and i am not always sure if i do the right thing.drinking a cup of coffee and watching this video is very calming and a very precious time.i am not on instagram, but i do comunicate with my friends, but people always expect me to write first, some even expect me to write back as soon as they write, can't wait.i just realised,a few weeks ago, i need a break from all this.i stopped writing first, what happened, none of those two friends ever wrote until today. This was good for me,i feel better and enjoy this time alot I love to get up before my kids in the morning and have a cup of coffee before they get up,this is a very precious time and i love it. I come to the conclusion, selfcare is very precious and necessary if one wants to feel better. Thankyou for this lovely video🌻🥰
Suse Fink yes well done for seeing that. People have high expectations of others but rarely take responsibility for themselves. You are happy with who you are and you give yourself that space. It’s precious like you said.

Thank you for reminding me this. I have to go out of bed now and do my journaling. No exception. I can do this...
Go for it! x
:) xo
Gosh thank you for sharing your story with us here. Such insight and learning. You are a courageous woman indeed. Well done you. x
Beautiful and calming video! It’s so important to keep ourselves healthy in all aspects in order to be able to take care of others
So calming and peaceful. Wisdom that is so vital for our present time.
You are amazing ,you inspired me so much .As a student I always look for motivation & I am very thankful to you . Never stop your work, please!!!
Prachi Maskar that’s very kind of you to say :-)
@@FairylandCottage thanks for reply . I just want some guidance by you . I always try to become a good daughter , sibling & a student but, I always think I am not . NO one is happy with me and I am frustrated .I think of others but no one has time for me. I don't know what to do. I want to care for myself but don't know how?
The most inspirational and unlike anyone! Velvety gentle voice enchants 🧚♀️
Ah thanks Melanie! always a great support :-)
Thank you for making these videos! I love them ❤️
Stay blessed and have a wonderful life.
So very very true. A reminder I will always need to hear! Thank you.
Absolutelly true!... Nice image, at the end, mother feeding her baby bird...
We live in Ireland. We made some elderflower cordial last week too😊Thank you for the calming video☺️
your words, both thanks to their meaning and your voice, are healing balm for body, mind and soul. can't say thank you enough
Awh I feel your thanks and accept. thanks for the love!
It's really good for Mental health also 😊 Thanks for being helpful for all
Thank you for the great reminder!
Everything you talk you show are beyond astonishing
Awh thank you my dear.
Such a good video. It is so important to look after ourselves so we can then look after others. I find if I take the time to look after myself, I have far more energy to give to others.
Also, I made some elderflower cordial this week too. We found some growing about 5 mins from where we live....I was very happy. Have a great week x
ohh nice! nothing like cordial eh... x
@@FairylandCottage it is so good and makes so much. Can't wait for the elderberries now 😊
You have such a lovely channel. Thank you for spreading positivity.
Very well said about self care improving relationships, thank you.
Ilysm, your voice, your morals, your knowledge. your eco ways, your channel, your content. Just love it all.
Mom Channel ah thanks so much for saying. Delighted you love it all x
I believe there is a lot of people in these strange times that realise that taking care of your self isn’t such a bad idea. Thanks for a beautiful video with an important message. 🙏
Your videos are like meditation for me! So calming
I always have to be reminded to give myself self care. Thank you 😊
Great ideas. I come from a long line of angry martyrs & you're right, you learn what you see. It's hard to change what has always been, but physically distancing myself from the anger & negativity is helping somewhat.
so true... the distance can help and then it's a constant state of awareness and kindness to ourselves.
I absolutely love your videos. They are my daily reminder to choose a simpler life, to slow down a bit and be present.
Awh thanks Margaret for saying. Means a lot that you love the topics x
Thank you for your wisdom and kind words... I started to realize the importance of self-care not so long ago :)
Thank you for reminding.
I only found out about your channel yesterday and I can´t stop watching your videos. Such a blessing to me nowadays. Thank you very much .
I’m so delighted you found and decided to stick around. I hope you enjoy there are hundreds of videos! :-)
I had to learn this lesson later in life but I'm thankful I learned...self care is a daily ritual...physical spiritual mental...all linked
Very true... I have been munching on this idea though was vague about it. But now I have clarity delivered in your sweet and soothing voice. Thankyou.
I love your message about self care ❤️❤️❤️ Always good to have a reminder
Beautifully worded. Thanks
for sharing. Greetings from
Switzerland.
I love to be out in nature eating the foods I've grown myself or that grows nearby. Its difficult not to be entangled in other's lives when they have come back to live or won't leave ha ha
but in general life can be good if we live simply and get out as often as we can. Leave the housework behind as it will always be there!
so true Fionnula, sometimes people like the hospitality too much ha ha!
I'd say if you included them in the housework you'd never see them again ha ha x
thank you so very much for your words!!
Great message! It has taken me a long time to learn to be as kind to myself as I would be to those around me. Very calming video, as always. So look forward to these!
better late than never.... taken me so long too!
Very relaxing and calming video.I treat myself to a massage once a month.💚
Beautiful wisdom. These videos are incredibly relaxing. Thank you for sharing 💕💕
Very beautiful video. Your calm voice makes my mind relaxing. Thank you. ❤❤
Thank you for all your calming videos.
Wow I love hearing about all the positive changes! Nice to see furniture going to a new home.
This kind and lovely video is simply what I needed today. Thanks. ❤️
So thankful for your wisdom. Love the food you making. Love recipes. You give so much love❣️😎
Thank you for sharing this important topic. And I loved seeing some of the beauty around you. Like a mini vacation for us. Such a gift. Self care has always been hard for me. But I am improving as I age. Love to you.
I really needed THIS, thank you. 🙏❤
What a beautiful and peaceful video, yes I try to care for myself and have learnt that it's indeed important, like you say, if I am not well , how can I then look after others. Lovley to watch you always.
My therapist recommended your channel to me a couple weeks ago, I am so grateful she did! You are such a role model and I hope to one day achieve the self love you have 🥰
Ah your therapist is so wise ;-)
Good reminders.
This was such a calming and uplifting video 🍓 thank you so much for the gentle reminder x
Thank you for making these videos, I treat myself to them every now and then, they are very soothing and relaxing :)
Thank you, I needed this
I look forward to your informative videos. Love incorporating your suggestions into my life. Thank you.
You are the only one who can give it and it’s the asking for support that changes everything so well done for being such a great example.
i can’t explain how much you helped me with self love
Well done you for wanting to care for yourself! You are the one doing all the work! Xxx
I don't think enough about it, because like you stated, it makes me feel like I am being selfish. but... if you are empty, you can't offer anything! xoxo
I look forward to your videos every Sunday and this one was just so lovely 🌸
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you for this it was so helpful reminder to myself it’s certainly a struggle of mine but a work in progress 🤗
Recently I learned to look after my self and I started self-care. It is the best thing in my life because self-care make me feel good
you got the secret!
This was good for me,i feel better and enjoy this time alot
I love to get up before my kids in the morning and have a cup of coffee before they get up,this is a very precious time and i love it.
Thank you. Beautiful Message
