Outstanding review, and perfect verse at the end of the video! I have been looking for a reel like this but didn't want to pay Shimano or Penn prices, and thanks to your video I have now learned of a solid and affordable reel. Subscribed!!
Thank you, friend, for the kind words and support. I have to be honest though, and state that these reels appear to be equal quality to Ocuma Magda reels, but I would not put them in the same class as Diawa or Shimano. Still a fair value.
I dont have a favorite as of yet, in the past I have owned Okuma line counters. I have also used Diawa and back in the 80"s Penn 209 and 309 were THE reels for Salmon on Lake Michigan, trolling outta Milwaukee. I am looking for reels that fit my program of quality reels at an everyday fishermans price point. I am definitely looking into Kastking! Tight lines Brother!
Funny u said u r switching over to kast king as i bought my first last year and liked it so much i too started switching over to it. Will try the recons next.
Pretty much all of my spinning reels are now Kastking and most of my bait casters. Maybe 50% of all my reels are now Kastking. Still waiting to try the ReKon 20 this summer, trolling for musky.
Thanks for the review. Been eyeballing one of these in the 20 size. Loving the KastKings I have so far so I’m looking to add to the family. Thanks again. God bless
Glad I could help, my friend. They are a decent reel for the money. About on par with the Okuma Magda's. I really love KastKing Spinning reels, and a few of the baitcasters. Would like to see a few small improvements in these ReKons.
@@TeamJesusOutdoors I have two Rovers (50 & 70) and those things are monsters. Love the. Just got a Sharky III bait feeder which is also a solid reel. Slowly making the switch as well
I have a pair of Rovers also, a 40 and a 60, I believe. Love the 40: I use it a ton for pulling crawler harnesses, in the River. One of my favorite KastKing reels! I would love to hear how your Sharky III performs, after you have had time to use it. Drop me a line, if you get a chance this summer at johnc@taylorhousing.org, and let me know how it does. Thanks for watching and supporting TJO, friend!
I know the ReKon also comes as just a level wind which is what I want. Most of my fishing is done I from the shore after work in the evenings so that’s why I love the reels with bait clickers. So I can hear them when I can’t see them. Plus the ReKon looks really coo lol
I didn't realize that it was offered in Level wind. That is interesting, because my only real complaint with it is the durability and accuracy of the counter.
Great review but I have a question for you. Have you tried casting with the Rekon 10 reel? I’m considering buying this reel and will be using it as a true casting reel. I will be casting 2-4 ounces of lead with a 10’ Rod for salmon. Will this be a good choice for my Useage?
I have two rekon's. One I use for bottom bouncing, the other for trolling musky baits. Never tried casting. Levelwind reels are not really known for thier casting ability, but lobbing a heavy lead sinker might work ok. A better choice would be a Kastking Kapstan. I use a Kapstan for musky fishing and love it!
I just picked up a Rekon 20 for Great Lakes salmon fishing. I cracked it open to ensure it was lubed properly (it was) and noticed that all parts of the clicker are plastic. The gear, the spring and the clicker pawl are all plastic. That surprised me since the main gears and shaft are stainless and brass and the bearings seem good. Not sure why the cheaped out on the clicker parts. I hope that they last. We use the clicker to control line release when dropping the downrigger balls to depth so they get lots of use. I hope the plastic does not fail because it will make the reel useless.
I haven't opened one yet. Thanks for sharing. That is a bummer, but it may be common. I honestly don't know, but you are correct, it that fails, then you have no line counter, and you can toss the reel in the garbage. Time will tell, I suppose. Thanks for supporting TJO!
@@TeamJesusOutdoors When I say clicker, I don't mean the line counter. I mean the clicker on the left plate that makes noise when the line is being released or pulled out and also helps slow the spool to prevent birds nesting when you drop the downrigger letting out line.
@@16Nassau Got ya! That is less critical to me, than the line counter, but it would still be quite frustrating, to not have the clicker, as it is quite useful in the trolling game.
If you don't mind me asking what rod are you using with the kast king reckon? I'm looking for a decent line counter reel and rod combo for bottom bouncing the river.

Thanks for the review it's time for me to get some new reels. I'll have to look into them. What rods are you running?
I have a few of the Cabela's line of trolling rods, and a couple of old Gander mountain trolling rods.
Do you think this would go good with a lamiglas x11 10.6 foot rod?
I am not familiar with that rod, but I've used it on several trolling rods, with mono, braid and even leadcore, and I love it!

Not bad for 60 bones!

I put the ReKon on an old Gander Mntn. trolling rod, I have had for many years. Sorry, thatvwont be much help.

Not well. It's really only a trolling reel.
