I think part of my issues stem from years of being cut off and interrupted. I learned to speak fast and try to convey my thought as quickly as possible before someone cut me off.
Oh wow, you made me realize why I'm also bad at talking. I also talk in a more louder voice that it hurts to speak.
This here has everything on my mind!! Even after speaking so fast, I get to stutter on my words
I recently realized my family is made up of 2 kinds of people: the listeners and the talkers. My sister and I are listeners. When we do speak up, the talkers get bored quickly so we feel the need to always cut our stories short to get our 2 cents out there as quickly as possible. This has spread to all aspects of our lives. I’ve noticed it in my work, as I’ve tried expanding my stories to add detail, I notice people actually want to listen, so I get anxious and start stumbling on my words.
This is so true, I grew up with a few really toxic friends who always pretended like they didn't hear me when I talked normal so I'd end up trying to be louder or they'd cut me off everytime so I started talking faster or they'd just simply brush me off like anything I said was not worth listening to. As I grew older I ended up having to deal with speech problems, I lost my original talking pace, I also lost words alot coz of aphasia which just made things 5x worse
I usually feel like I'm pressured to speak when talking with someone.
Tip #5(Empower) is I think the major key. you're speaking to engage to them rather than trying to make your self look impressive and then you end up stumbling your words (maybe you put pressure on yourself?). Because when you truly engage to them that's when you can show your intention and everything becomes natural.

This is for me.i talk very slowly. I never knew I could talk on UA-cam, how much more teaching someone. I get better by the day.
I feel the same way. Over tend to be over critical but over time I get a bit more care free. I think that helps too.

What a great video. It was a huge light bulb moment right from the discover point. I’m a visual learner. I teach groups for a living and I’m now doing my own video tutorials, but as I’m working with horses and training them in front of people I have to set a plan in general what I’m going to attempt but it then depends on the animal. So my speaking comes out naturally. Thing is I’m so passionate that I think either I’m talking too fast (faster than my pace) or I can’t find words and I end up dumping word on top of word until I feel maybe I’m understood. Articulate was a video in your links which helped me a lot. As you say I’m not looking for big words just words that help explain my situation clearly
I'm starting my channel back up after deleting a bunch of videos and I tried recording for about an hour today and I just couldn't speak properly or articulate what I was trying to say. I found the "slow down" part to probably be true for me because I speak super fast. I also liked the last tip which really made me think about my approach. Thanks!

What if having a natural fast speaking pace is rewarded/praised by society compared to the naturally slower pace? For example, people think you are smart and have a quick mind, if you speak fast. I recently struggled a lot in my interviews as a naturally slow/soft speaker... Would really appreciate some more suggestions/tips on it!
There are two ways: 1 you look for the job where your speech speed is of little concern. 2) You train yourself to speak faster. No, it doesn't mean you have to start speaking as a bullet train, but increasing your speed 10 -15 % will make the difference. And remeber there are ppl who appreciate slow speakers, it gives an impression of a thoughtful person.

@@eliaol4231 You would have to tailor it to your audience. You don’t want to speak too slowly in a debate since your opposing party may try to fill in your spacing and attempt to talk over your points by throwing their ideas or retorts in every time you take a pause. If you’re speaking with your boss you need them to understand you so brevity is important, but so is a decent speaking speed. Talking too quickly may result in them missing vital info and making bad judgement calls. Instructing others may require a slower speech pattern so the class can ask you to define certain terminology as they come across those terms, or to allow the new information to be written down and absorbed.
@@eliaol4231 usually, speaking faster is considered more charismatic, as it gives the impression that youre thinking fast, too, and hence smarter

I never realized how my tongue moved when making certain sounds thanks for making me conscious of it. One trick I was taught a long time ago was to smile while you talked this helped make enunciation easier and more clear for me.

I have found my pace! When I Talk clearly! I have to pause to give me time to think how to speak clearly!
I have a debate competition in 6 days and I'm stressing because I tend to stumble upon words and blank out on the stage. I'll try doing these tricks before the debate to try and help myself to appear more confident and clear like how I am internally. Any more tips for blanking out on the stage? -_-
