Matthew Lilard was the perfect live action Shaggy. I can’t imagine why Scooby and Shaggy gave him such a hard time for his performance in “Looney Tunes Back in Action.”
I genuinely think this movie is good and I think its sequel is good too, Admittedly Scooby's Cgi isnt handsome but I think the soul of Scooby Doo is still alive in these movies regardless
1 things I really love all of this cast is Matthew Lillard (Shaggy’s actor) now he is Shaggy’s voice actor since around 2010, also Linda Cardellini (Velma’s actress) is an Hot Dog Water’s voice actress
Matthew Lillard truly was such a perfect pick not only to play Shaggy but also to voice Shaggy as arguably the definitive voice for Shaggy in multiple animated Scooby Doo shows and movies for a whole new generation of kids, teens, and adults today. Not to mention, Linda Cardellini has not only played Velma but voiced her in multiple Scooby Doo series, and frankly, all the castings in this movie were spot on and really dont get the acknowledgement they deserve, I mean Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar both played Fred and Daphne and the two are actually currently married in real life today which is quite sweet. It really amazes me how James Gunn has come in his career as he was a screenwriter for this movie. Now he is one of the biggest names in Hollywood as a highly praised, beloved film director, especially for his fantastic comic book movies and shows like Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, The Suicide Squad (2021), Peacemaker tv series, Creature Commando's (coming out this December) and his extremely anticipated Superman movie next year, as well as being the head of DC Studios in general.
Matthew Lillard won the Kid's Choice Award for Favorite Fart in a Movie for this. He still has it to this day and considers it one of his most prized possessions! Per his interview on Dead Meat.
Originally, this movie was actually going to be much more adult, but I think the executives said no, and they changed it to be more kid friendly, which is why there are some outta pocket moments like when Fred says he gets turned on by nerdy girls.
Yeah, this movie suffered a LOT from corporate meddling since very early on. It’s enjoyable, but you can tell they neutered a lot of plot stuff and dumbed down the comedy. And unfortunately the CGI on Scooby was very rough because of budget cuts.
Yeah, it was initially written as an R-rated comedy a la The Brady Bunch Movie. But Warner Bros. was in the process of reviving Scooby Doo as a franchise at the time, and so they pushed to make the movie more family-friendly.

Wow, this was a nostalgic blast from the past. Glad you guys had fun. After this movie and the second one came out, Matthew Lillard did such an amazing job as Shaggy that he took over as the official voice actor. And you guys aren't the only ones who hate Scrappy. When he showed up in the cartoons he was despised so much by the fans that he was eventually removed from the series. So, the flashback scene where he's marking his territory on Daphne and then getting kicked out of the van is kind of a nod to that. In that way it makes sense that he becomes the villain.
I miss the live action Scooby Doo movies. They were a pretty big part in my childhood. Also Kanan Jaruss himself, Freddie Prinze jr., was Fred in the first two movies. Later, he got married to Daphne aka Buffy the vampire slayer.

Like everyone here, I'm saying Matthew Lilliard killed it as the perfect live action Shaggy, so much so he even voiced him in a couple of animated versions. Also, for early 2000s, Scooby's cgi doesn't look half bad. Still entirely believeable but still holding good.
Fun fact: at the beginning Shaggy and Scooby were suppose to be smoking in the mystery machine, it got cut because they wanted the movie to be family friendly

Shaggy and Velma are my absolute favorites in this movie! Matthew Lillard nailed his role as Shaggy same with Linda Cardellini as Velma. FPJr and Sarah Michelle Gellar were great too but I just have a special place in my heart for Shaggy and Velma.
- There was originally going to be a animated opening for this movie but it was cut for time, & as for the ending they had so many different outcomes which led to Scrappy being the villain & while I myself don’t hate Scrappy I think they did him dirty - Neil Fanning was the voice of Scooby during the movie & he was on set everyday to interact with the cast even starting a friendship with Matthew Lillard making Shaggy & Scooby's friendship convincing, but fun fact the monsters are voiced by Frank Welker (who has been voicing Scooby since right after this movie to now & Fred from the very start of the franchise) then Scott Innes (who voiced Scooby & Shaggy) also did the voice of Scrappy - Raja Gosnell the director wanted a couple to play Daphne & Fred which he wanted Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr., but Freddie didn't want to do it at the start, but Gellar talked him into it while as for Matthew Lillard he was cast as Shaggy because of his performance in Thir13en Ghosts (2001) (which is interesting because of the show The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo) but this lead to him now being the voice of Shaggy - When Shaggy says "Like, Scoob & me don't do castles. Because castles have paintings with eyes that watch you, & suits of armor you think is a statue with a guy inside that follows you every time you turn around!" which is what happens in What a Night for a Knight (1969)
@6:33 I want to make a theme park, I've decided on an island. I used to say it'll be horror themed...but now I just go with "science" themed. Also, human-made island that can sail around and clean up the oceans (recycling and claiming stuff to turn into an armada to seek justice against the filthy, wasteful and unworthy landlubbers!!! YA HArrr!).
So in 2017 the film's screenwriter confirmed that there was an R-rated cut of Scooby-Doo and that CGI was used to remove cleavage of the female cast members. After that there was a PG-13 cut that was once again changed to get down to PG. So that explains why it contains so many adult references and jokes.
8:50, what you guys probably didn't notice at that part which was odd in the movie was that Daphne hadn't seen Shaggy and Scooby for two years, but she continued carried on those Scooby Snax that only the two only them ate
This was filmed on the gold coast and the island section was specifically filmed on Tangalooma. it was a massive thing at the time cuz there hadn't really been any blockbuster movies filmed in Australia before (aside from Mad Max, and that was more cult classic at the time), and apparently the media were relentless to the point Sarah Michelle Geller said she'd never come back here. I LOVE Matthew Lillard, I love sugar ray, I at the same time grew up with my mom watching E.R so I recognize Velma from that too, and I LOVE the horror genre. I don't know if this is true or not but I once heard that Tim Curry was originally cast as the island owner, but turned down the role after he heard that Scrappy was going to be in the movie.
Fun fact: There was no supernatural element in the original script, but one day Shaggy came to set and start taking people's souls out and summoning demons and every one was too scared to say anything.
Intereting enough there are two deleted scenes that sorta help with the story pacing of the movie, mainly in the 2nd half. The first one is right after Shaggy meets possessed Fred and we cut to Daphne meeting possessed Velma in a very nice swimsuit. The scream we heard from Shaggy and Scoobs is Velma signaling Daphne hasn't been possessed yet. The 2nd one is when Shaggy drops into the pit and he looks at the soul well thing but inbetween there's a scene where he watches Daphne getting possessed and the process of it. Ngl they could've kept one of those scenes in the final cut
I just found out a week or two ago that the same guy that made this made Guardians of the Galaxy. There was actually a hint that Scrappy was the villain early on: When Velma was telling generic love interest #1 about how he wasn't even a puppy, he just had a glandular problem, the ritual guy looked up from the piano towards Mr. Bean-bot and was clearly amused by it.
First time watching this movie as a kid i was like "mr bean can talk!?"😂 also scooby doo is the greatest most accurate depiction of any dog race to ever exist. Grew up with several great danes and they are litterly like scooby😂
Ref to drunken kung fu: I believe the older series the one after "scooby doo: where are you?" had shaggy and scooby using their wits to outsmart the monster. I believe it was the episode where a band was getting force to sign something while the rest of gang were captured.
I was so sad for scooby when the bag was empty. It's like, if you're gonna lure him with hamburgers so you can kidnap him, at least actually give him the hamburgers
I like how the actors who played Fred and Daphne are married and still are to this day.

This movie is the best scooby doo movie (next to legend of the vampire)
I don't know if this is true or not but I once heard that Tim Curry was originally cast as the island owner, but turned down the role after he heard that Scrappy was going to be in the movie.
19:28 - Funny thing is, Rowan Atkinson kept turning down this movie. I think his agent had to talk him into it.
Fun fact: There was no supernatural element in the original script, but one day Shaggy came to set and start taking people's souls out and summoning demons and every one was too scared to say anything.
You should react to Scooby Doo Camp Scare. I think Boom will really appreciate it as its a lot like Friday the 13th
You guys should watch We're the Millers and Bad Grandpa. They are VERY much R-rated while also being hilarious. Kind of like the South Park movie.
(At 11:22) I'm still wondering if THIS movie's the reason why Freddy Prinze Jr and Sarah Michelle Gellar got married.
I wouldn't be shocked, a real tom Holland Zendaya scenario
I believe they started dating after costarring in _I Know What You Did Last Summer_
Nothing like watching movies with uncle Sean and uncle Eric
Fun fact: in Brazil, Scrappy-Doo its called Scooby-Loo
12:45😂😂😂
16:52 Sean/Boom Called it
Intereting enough there are two deleted scenes that sorta help with the story pacing of the movie, mainly in the 2nd half.
I could vibe with going to Sorta Spooky Island, hang out at Sorta Spooky Resort, the whole place would be such a vibe
First time watching this movie as a kid i was like "mr bean can talk!?"😂 also scooby doo is the greatest most accurate depiction of any dog race to ever exist. Grew up with several great danes and they are litterly like scooby😂
This movie and the second one are some of my favorite movies, especially the second one
The guy doing the voodoo ritual. I think he's practicing so he can get it right when he can get a live chicken
The is Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and my one word... Velma in sexy red jumpsuit
I really love these live action 😂❤
Ref to drunken kung fu: I believe the older series the one after "scooby doo: where are you?" had shaggy and scooby using their wits to outsmart the monster. I believe it was the episode where a band was getting force to sign something while the rest of gang were captured.
Man I found you guys a week ago and I cannot stop watching, putting in some hours
0:00 Not the whole gang is not here, damn.
Sorta Spooky Island is probably the greatest "what if" ever
i remember when you guys were watching mistery inc and ruff was like "what did scrappy doo?"
now you know
I'll never get over the fact that live-action Shaggy and movie Springtrap are played by the same actor
grew up watching this and love the first and second
I was so sad for scooby when the bag was empty. It's like, if you're gonna lure him with hamburgers so you can kidnap him, at least actually give him the hamburgers
