Rare really made 5 Videos about this stupid skull to hype us up... it's simply disappointing.
Good thing, if they actually will bring a good update in the future I will be very excited, bc of my extremly low expectations I have due to the last year.

It should have been 50k if you picked up both the chest and key, but if another crew got one of the pieces, the skull should be 100k minimum to keep players engaged.
I agree, I think it being the most expensive item in the game will give it relevancy even after commendations are finished.
its 75k if you get both if you only get one its 50k. the box sells for 500 gold. its not worth the time or effort. skull for will net you about the same with less boring af afking across the map. god this new quest is lame af.
I watched a brig on the server do this - a sloop gave them a bit of a fight but lost. Then they sailed to the island and handed the skull in. After that they just went and sank anyone they could see while giving them a whole load of verbal abuse. They were basically occupied for a short time and then became aggressively bored as that ended - the reality of "nothing else to do and nobody can fight you" hit home very hard for that crew.
I fought them for a little while and they were extremely good. Havent seen reliable cannon boards to ladders like that in a while, especially a i was making a point of running like heck - i ended up scuttling as it was pretty hopeless and i got real tired of the verbal nonsense. Thats the problem though, it is a huge amount of adrenaline for these crews and then...nothing. This event cant hold players on its own, it needs to be partnered with other things on the server and the pvp crowd it is attracting have no such thing to occupy them. Fort of fortune was a long, quality sort of event that sated them and this....half the time it isnt even getting them an opponent with the same ship size.
This is a step in the right direction but it isnt a heavyweight event that can stand on its own.
Anyone being verbally abusive in a game of this calabre really needs a reality check.
As a main pvp player I believe that between hourglass, emissary hunting, organic pvp and now this voyage, there is always something to do. If people get bored playing such a good game, then they will never be satisfied by anything.
Can confirm from personal experience today, either it can bug and not slow down ships, or the slowdown still lets a sloop outrun a galley against the wind
They could give for the skull sell Like 25 Ancient Coins mabey this would keep the Antivity around it

This is the first update since Hourglass that I’ve been excited about. The voyage looks super fun and unique, and it’ll be a fun grind to get the cosmetics. I think praise is due.
I think you need some fresh air, you're starting to go mad if you think 1 outfit and 2 ship sets are a good update. The voyage is just arena anyways

i spent it all in the wilds digging up on old faithful getting no PvP to then get to the cashout point to fight a brig, have the servers shit themselves with rubber banding, sink then spawn ridiculously close to cashout. overall 5/10 not much PvP and not great solo unless you are fighting multiple boats or a solo
I haven't played since i built my racing simulator like 6 months ago. Cant wait to get on and have fun for 2 days before i get bored again!

You unlock the rewards from the commendations: jacket from turning 1 skull in, mask from 30, flag from digging up 1 key or chest, sails from digging up 50, and figurehead from opening 40 chest, 30, 40 and 50 being the max of each of their commendations, and the title "composer of siren song" for doing all 3 commendations. Hope this helps people go for the cosmetics they want!
Rare needs to keep up the monthly updates. I don’t know what the hell is happening at Rare but let’s get back to 2019/2020 updates shall we. January better not disappoint.

The game is 5+ years old now brother and has 5+ years of content. It's only natural for things to slow down as everything they add to the game now they have to make sure doesn't break a hundred other things. Not to mention keeping the ever increasing install size down

@@Bi9Clapper I guarantee you all these systems-based updates are burdening the game down than an update like we got yesterday. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind systems updates. I think we need to get back to the monthly update style. Rare’s chasing an update model they simply can’t keep up with.
The anti-running mechanic built into this isn't nearly strong enough. A brig with full billow crosswind and skull onboard can run away from a galleon in partial crosswind. If you have to approach from an even slightly different angle, you simply fall behind. I have also seen a cheese used to prevent the curse taking effect (different occasion than the brig/galleon chase). The sell should not occur instantly with the press of a button because it doesn't incentivize fighting gain control over the area; that should be a press and hold for several seconds.
I mean to be fair they released monkey Island and that shit was massive. It's not like Rare wasn't doing anything for 7 months. I actually enjoyed just chilling doing monkey Island, nice change of pace.
Great video! Being terrible at PvP, I only ever managed 1 Chest of Fortune last season. But I got 1 Siren Skull on day 1 of this release, and I think it's because it's not just a static location, but a race around the map. Much more entertaining, more fun, and I hope one day I can manage to get 29 more.

Okay so I’ve done the voyage and handed in the skull 8 times already. It’s honestly 50/50 in my opinion. It is very fun when you actually have pursuers, but I was surprised to find that 4/8 times we were uncontested, and this was yesterday at launch. At first glance I thought the siren skull was just a reskin of the ashen winds skull, but there are some key differences, like it does have an insane kill time, and it doesn’t hurt your crew, so you can just fire away, which was really cool. One main thing to note tho is that this skull should be worth way more then a measly 50k, because the effort to hand it in when you do have people constantly after you is 100% not worth the money. Yes we do have cosmetics tied to it, but as it stands, after the loyal players get them all in maybe a month, I don’t think the majority will even do the mission anymore. This update was a step in the right direction, but I don’t know if it’s enough to keep players active for 3 more months, and if the next season will even bring anything game changing to the game.
So... It's arena but not in arena. It took 7 months for them to just recycle arena with an ashen winds skull instead of a chest of silver.
Voyage is poorly designed. Just camp the dropoff with a full galley. Whole idea needs more to be worth the wait and ridiculous hype
For anyone wondering how to unlock the jacket and mask you need to get grade 1 (turn in one skull of siren song) in savior of siren song to unlock the jacket and grade 5 (sell 30 skulls of siren song) to unlock the mask

It's crazy that it doesn't scale with emissary and is the lowest paying world event, straight up just Ashen winds on launch 2.0
Already a big problem with this update is the skull hand ins are usually only 1-2 tiles away from where the chest is opened so any ship can get there quickly. On top of this both the Brig and Galleon with the skull are faster than a chasing sloop. The slowdown only seems to matter if you were directly behind the lead vessel and if its of the same size as you are.
I think it's based on who's opted in to ensure combat. Our opponent was at Cutlass Cay and we were at Isle of Last Words and when they opened the chest, it ended at Crooked Masts.
The 2nd one seemed like we were uncontested and only had to sail from Blind Man's Lagoon to Lone Cove.

In insider testing the skull sold for 100,000 gold, so it was halved just before release

this season took an entire year to fully release and only introduced: a pvp voyage, guilds (new grind to keep players from complaining) and safter seas if you even call that a new thing because it does not actually add anything to the game. Yet these youtubers eat it up for daddy rare

They messed it up! I just completet 2 runs for this in a row on the same server and there where other ships but no one did care could hand in both skulls without getting interuppted while playing solo ... if this is the new challange im not impressed.
Being honest, considering I cant get chance to get Glorious Sea Dog (mostly its jacket), then getting Briggsy ones is nice alternative.

Watching this just 4 days after release really pains me: The new voyage is already almost dead, because it is way to common. If you're hopping for one, you will most likely find one on the first or second hop. This means that currently players, that want to do this voyage won't find each other and just complete it without ever having to fight. Rare really needs to make this at least as rare as the FoF and maybe it can be saved.

Just tried to do one of these voyages and turns out I was fighting a steamer for it who ended up running with the chest for over an hour
It's not even worth it at that point lmao, why run for an hour when you can so easily server hop until you find another voyage

Sea of Reskins... for a sandbox... im not seeing the sandbox items for like 4 years now. Finally a second stove. This is reskin particles of voice instead of fire.... no new toys ... no rework to creatures, no content, a kraken still the same. They should focus in adding mechanics and all they doing is reskinning and changing stats here and there. No headshots vs body tech. Weapons? Hookshots? Magical powerups, new ship? New ship attachments? There is so much updates fkkkkkk.

PHAT disagree. Season 10’s release schedule may be a decent approach, but the actual content within this season is anorexic. This is the only actual content that’s being released in the entire season and its got lots of issues upon release. Now that this is out, after all this time, we have nothing else to look forward to, until who knows when. Safer seas and guilds are NOT content.
The ships you sink, while fighting over the skull, respawn an island away from the turn in point. Crews can literally bypass sailing, scuttle themselves and be right next to the island to intercept you (the crew that actually did the legwork of the voyage). Players shouldn’t even be able to see the turn-in location, unless they have the skull in their possession. This is obvious. Players can also put the siren song skull in a harpoon rowboat and trail it behind their ship, bypassing the slowing effect. How does Rare take 8+months to cook this simple voyage up, then fail on practically every fundamental level to implement it functionally? It’s an imbalanced mess. This is sloppy. The organic PVP on day 1, in adventure, was nice, but the voyage is loaded with exploits.
How much is the skull worth? Oh 50k gold? Ya no thanks

I wish you gave us some context here. But, I believe it. They banned my ass from ever naming ships again. Because, I had named my only ship "Convallaria Majalis" It literally means "Lilly of the valley" in Hebrew It didn't violate any rules. But, they said it was "toxic". IDK how so. The SOT community has become a toxic cess pool anyways. Especially the hourglass community. The game will surely die anyway.

The one issue I have with this update is the thought that it was originally planned to be an entire season along side safer seas. Im just so glad that we never had to wait 3-6 months through guilds just for an event that most people will have farmed in a week.

Not sure if you saw it yet, but all 3 monkey island tall tales now have an additional reward. If you've completed them already, you'll need to do it one more time to get the rewards. If you haven't done them yet, then you can just complete it normally

I’m glad I was able to experience it today, even though I lost. 4 sloops total, I dipped for a second and then chased the final survivor to tuck on the island but they got me. I hope it always keeps the intensity and people don’t stop doing it after commendations are done
Lowest paid world event? Really. You get $50k for turning in the skull to Brigsy, which is basically the value of the skull. Which makes it the most valuable item as even the chest of fortune doesn’t pay that much. I think I got $40k with gold and glory and I think we were level 5 emissary as well when I sold the chest of fortune. - That being said, I don’t get your complaints. It’s more about the adventure, thrill of the chase and dream of that singular item payout. The commendations are also nice! - This skull has become the most valuable item in the game.
This event Is not about the gold, it's honestly about getting servers to feel alive again. And having more opted in player interaction.
This is like a pve version of opting in for hourglass but more wild.
It feels like a race and its relativly easy to do, just a time grind for how many have to be done..
So far we've done 15 in 8 or so hours. So this com with a competent team only takes a few days to a week depending on how much time you can dedicate to a session.
Why not expand on already existent content? It's boring, unoriginal and grindy, can't believe it was supposed to be a 4 month season
If you get a harpoon rowboat and harpoon the back of your ship with the skull on the rowboat then the curse won’t affect the ship
Me and my friends found out that, even if a sloop has the curse of the siren song, it's still faster than a brig against the wind just by a bit but enough to outpace them.
Hate to say it, SoT is an old game now. I’m surprised we’re still getting “large” content updates at all

I'm probably thinking I should be on my Brigantine for this one. I mean the Brig is the fastest ship in the game but I could place the Bill Cipher's Wrath which is my Galleon into the fight. I just need to make them look imposing before pleading them to my Guild.

It’s really cool but needs work. Our first one 4 ships on the server showed up to it, we sunk them all on our sloop and united the chest and key, only to find out that the backspawns are basically the closest island to where you sank. So 1v4 a bunch of ships, have an epic battle, then oh wait all 4 are back within 2 minutes (not exaggerating). I really like it so far but the backspawns need a HARD nerf imo. You shouldn’t just be allowed to lose a fight and be instantly back in with fresh supplies within 30 seconds. It feels like a massive middle finger to sloop crews as we already have everything stacked against us anyway
We had the same issue. Seems like those on the voyage respawn really close, like 1 or 2 islands away.
@@AShinyRayIn the end brig sunk us literally one tile away from the turn in spot, and we STILL beat them to the turn in because our back spawn was so close. Unless you sink someone basically at the turn in it feels like they’ll make it back before you do. Which is cool in some ways but in others it feels silly.
