    When I go shopping, I bring my favorite shopping bags in need of support. I find a product (almost empty) box that fits perfectly inside my bag and my produce really gets home in much better shape.

    I remember making knock-off band t-shirts with images off the web 15 yrs ago and selling them for £3 to friends...! Ironing them on was a pain back then - surprised to see it's no easier now lol!

      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому

      you remind me so much of a friend of mine who I lent my silkscreen to because he wanted to make band t shirts:) I think you need a heat press to do any volume, I hate to iron on a good day LOL! 15 seconds vs 5 minutes :) Lots of crafters have those now due to the popularity of Cricut and heat transfer vinyl.

    I enjoyed today's projects, Lindsay. The Graphics Fairy is a great resource for this type of work. I wish your sponsor was a world-wide company that everyone could access, as they seem to do a great service for the environment. Fingers crossed that they'll grow :)

      I'll let them know. It can be tricky selling to some countries due to different taxes (it might wipe out the cost savings)

    I adore this video! I love to sew and I never knew adding photos to a bag was so easy. I think the way you constructed the bag is one of the simplest, too. My local Giant Eagle grocery store offers a drawing for $25 off groceries if you bring your own bags. It sounds like a winning combo. :)

    To get a very large image all you have to do is send your image to your printer and it prints on your transfer paper?
    Cricut print then cut will only print about a 9 x 6 image.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you can go as big as your printer prints.

      what are you getting? I have had a photosmart for 10 years, I like it and it has served me well but I think I'd go with an epson and an ink tank system. What are your thoughts?

    • @2848Adriana
      @2848Adriana 7 років тому

      I have got an Epson ET-2500, it is great, I have had it for about 3 weeks now, I was getting sick of paying for the cartridges with never lasted long, Now the ink price for the E tanks are much better and you only have to get the one you run out of, hope this helps, Cheers Anna.

      I have a 10+ year old Canon MX300 that has no ink and prints really slowly. I haven't wanted to get new ink in case I decided to get a new printer. I was planning on trying to find a used Canon PIXMA Pro-100. I've always had Canon printers so I suppose I've just gone with what I've known. But finding a printer with an ink tank system seems like it'd be cheaper down the road.

    I really like this project - I have this exact Kenmore sewing machine! LOL. I wasn't clear though on whether I should do the transfer for the tote back before I sew up the peices of the bag or after I make the bag? Also does Tomato Ink ship to Canada? or will the shipping make it cost prohibitive like some of the art supply sites? Great tutorial Lindsay, as always. TFS

    Hi. I have some canvas bags I want to put transfers on. Should I always use light transfer paper for the canvas bags in the natural color? The same color you used in this video. I did one bag and it came out all streaked and the texture of the bag came through really bad. I think my iron was too hot and I used too much pressure. Could that be the problem? One bad you could kind of see the texture of the bag but it just made it look rustic.

  • @claraagu1811

    I tried this with the modge podge ,on canvas ,and my printer didn't work.. and my picture came out green? Like it had a green smoke around it which didn't look good.. I tried it your way with an iron? It works perfect I sprayed it with a varnish when I was done to make it shiny and it stayed my daughter loved it

    Got a kick out of your kenmore sewing machine. They keep going and going. I have a vintage JC Penney machine, wonder what was they last they made those??? It has all metal parts, it will out live us all.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 років тому +4

      those old machines are the best, they weigh a ton (they make modern machines feel like a toy!) I tell people you are better to get a trade in from a sewing machine dealer rather than a modern machine fro a big box store, it will last longer and you will pay about the same. I have a White Jeans Machine upstairs for garment sewing and mending, that is a beast too, no fancy computerized stitches but it gets the job done and I (so far) can fix anything that goes wrong with it:)

      I have a Kenmore very much like the one in this video. I got it from my parents for my high school graduation. Only mine does not have the cogs for the top. I love that thing... almost as much fun as my old treadle in my basement LOL

    • @olderendirt
      @olderendirt 7 років тому

      I have several old Singers and a portable Necchi. They all weigh a ton and I wouldn't part with them. There's no computers to go haywire and one of the Singers has a slanted needle for sewing over pins (although I try not to) and cams for fancy stitches.

    • @SierraGal
      @SierraGal 7 років тому +1

      I've got a Kenmore that has all the cogs and it keeps sewing. In the past I put it through the paces but lately it just does mending anymore. Still works. Bought it in 1979 (cough).

    • @thefrugalcrafter

      You can get transfer paper to work with the printer you have, mine is ink jet

  • @Luveyeathan14

    Can you do this with a regular store bought canvas?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  5 років тому

      You will need to have a firm support when you iron it so you might need to remove it from the stretcher first.

    Lindsey, do you know if these transfer sheets and resulting print on the fabric are washable and hold their color? I want to find something to transfer photos for use in a quilt, that will get washed now and then. Are these colorfast?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  6 років тому

      they are washable, as for lightfastness it might depend more on your printer ink than on the transfer. My shopping bag looks the same as when I printed it but it lives in the trunk of my car. I bet if you contacted tomato ink (see link in description and us the contact info on their site) they can tell you accurately.
