Love your channel! Very detailed, great commentary, and sense of humor you're funny 😅 lol. I lived in Mississippi for 33 yrs, my whole family is there ❤️ You just taught me a lot I never knew. As a black woman who's lived here all my life I will say this fairly accurate. I do actually have an education and never had any kids. I have a degree in sociology and have worked in social services for over 10 years now. I started out in early education so I have a good grasp on the social problems that plague our state. It's sad because there's so much potential here. It really could be an awesome place to live.
Every race lived in different parts of the city. Here in Mississippi I live in a mixed neighborhood. I find that a lot of neighborhoods are mixed here in Mississippi.
Me being a navy vet and have travel the world more than twice, i could say that mississippi has the most hospitality and friendilest people in the world.
I have been in MI several times for academic related purposes. Oxford as a town was nice. So many different people. But I also ventured outside of Oxford. I am a person of color (but not African American) and I didn't listen to warnings of just staying in Oxford, don't go out. For sure it happened at a local gas station people were looking at me and I got the question "When are you going home". I never forget that. Generally when they smile at me, I know it is fake
I was raised in MS. I still live here. I always wanted to get out of here! I moved to TX for a few years, AZ, Nashville, Dauphin island! But yet I’m back here in MS. And honestly the way things are going in America I’m thankful to live here now!

I was born and raised in Biloxi, still am here. when he said the Coast might as well be it’s own state, it’s completely true, it’s so different from the whole entire state, if anyone is thinking about moving to Mississippi, any part of the coast would be great.
The Mississippi gulf coast is a melting pot. There are people from all over the world. It’s about as cosmopolitan as you’ll get in the south, apart from maybe New Orleans, but it’s pretty much the same territory
Spent time in coastal Mississippi in the late 2000s after Katrina hit the area. Lovely people. Gorgeous countryside. Heartbreaking poverty. It's a part of the country with a special place in my heart.
@@Vicrattleskull2028 oh honey when was the last time you’ve been on the coast? Trust me the gulf coast is a lot better than a lot of other places in the South.
I live in Waveland and I have to say even though I lost everything due to Katrina I love my home. The coast is so different than the rest of the state in my humble opinion. We offer so much culture right here on the coast. I don’t think I could live anywhere else at this point in my life.
I am from Tupelo, Mississippi....it is the best state to live and a great place to raise kids. Friendliest people in America. If you are stranded on the roadside Mississippi folks will stop and help you. We love our families, our dogs and our guns.
Born and raised in northern Mississippi. Moved to Utah 2 years ago. Almost everything you said was accurate. I never hated my home state but I came west for better jobs, less humidity and better education. I wanted my kids to have better opportunities than I did. If the state turns around the economy and improves the education system, I wouldn't rule out going back because the people are really nice and it is, ultimately, HOME.
Same here, I moved out from laurel Mississippi and now I live in Denver Colorado. And I love the people in Mississippi. But there’s no good jobs there so I left.

@@TheTillmanSneakerReview a shot in the dark here, but this winter I'm planning to bicycle back through the gulf (ish) area of Mississippi and I'm looking for a couple or three chesp acres. I ain't rich, my friend; I'm just a hard worker. My two daughters and their hubbys and my grandson are all with me when I say we need to get out of New York state and find some cheap land where we can build some little homes and raise my grandson. Won't start a politics discussion here but suffice it to say it's getting scary up here for us small town folks. If you hear of anything that you think might suit our needs please comment back and let us know my friend ♥️
My grandfather was born and raised in Mississippi. He was born in 1924. He said he would walk by black people hanging from trees and was told not to look at white woman because they used to falsely accuse black male. He was forced to move north because Caucasians were so rough with African Americans. So yeah if your Caucasian I'm sure Mississippi is a very kind place.
As a Memphian, yes we have our issues but there's a lot of nice things you can say about my city too. Speaking on Mississippi though, they are the friendliest people in the country and i've been all over the state since i worked there for 3 years
I've lived pretty much all over this country of ours from Colorado to Virginia and from Louisiana to Montana. I was born in Jackson, MS and now reside in North Brandon. And simply put there's really no other place I'd rather live. Mississippi is a slower pace of life and most of the general population is a very laid back and kind hearted folks. Education and Healthcare are on the rise and aside from a few knuckleheads in the Metro areas of Jackson, Meridian, and Biloxi this state is relatively safe.

I lived in Byram for a few years while my parents lived in Brandon (even during Katrina) and I taught at JPS. It was so boring that we moved to Charlotte.
I am from Chicago but my heritage is from Mississippi (Starkville). Mississippi is such a naturally beautiful state with fertile soil and great climate throughout. It has also contributed so much to American arts. It has so much untapped potential.
I think it should also be mentioned that Gulfport and Biloxi saw extreme destruction from Hurricane Katrina's storm surge (worse than the kind of flooding in New Orleans) in 2005, which can be attributed to the decline, blight, poverty, and crime in those areas. The Gulf Coast overall never really recovered from that disaster.
I grew up in Gulfport and lived through Camille. We really didn't recover much after. I think the reason for casinos was to generate much needed revenue I visit now and then but to be honest it's nothing like I used to know it to be. The crime is what makes me sad. It used to not be that way.

@Tuy Randolph Dude, what is your problem? I don't know what your religion is, but if you are Christian then I would just like to give you a friendly reminder that the Bible tells us to "love thy neighbor." Do you think that casting hate to an entire group of people is being very neighborly? I don't think so. Maybe you should do some reevaluating and start being a more loving and accepting person.
Definitely a black perspective from the Delta. Born and raised in the Delta. I hold a B.S. and M.S. from The University of Mississippi. It kind of troubles me that he talked about Mississippians as if we are all trash. Of course, he picked the very worst aspects to support his narrative. I now reside on the MS Gulf Coast. Watch them in order from best to worst! I notice that this one is unusually long, there's so much bad news!??!!?? It's surprising how much of America seems to be falling into ruin! I've been to every state except Alaska and I can tell you that Mississippi has its problems but so does every other state and some of the other states makes Mississippi look like a paradise.

You missed some very important points about Mississippi. The second "religion" is collegiate football. Even Friday nights are high school football. I grew up in California but moved here 25 years ago. The people are very friendly and accepting. I love the slower pace of life. People don't eat out much. Everyone gets together for backyard BBQ instead. The public schools are bad but most families who can afford it send kids to private schools (church or prep school) and some home school. The first heart transplant in USA was done at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. We have many famous writers including Eudora Welty, James Faulkner and John Grisham. Mississippians lives are filled with church activities, family get-togethers and college football games. Brett Faurve and Peyton and Eli Manning are from Mississippi. Many men have "deer camp" during hunting season. A lot of people duck hunt with their trained Labrador Retrievers. Churches are segregated by choice. The worship style enjoyed by Black churches are very different than typical "unexciting" Baptist service. My church is mostly white but we have some Black families and Associate Pastor is Black. Get-togethers very important for all race families. Especially African-American. They can have 4 generations together with many children of all ages. Just before Memorial Day and 4th of July, grocery baskets full of fixins for good eats. Farmers with pickups full of sweet potatoes, boiled peanuts or watermelons sit along highways to sale their goods. Some of the best tasting melons straight from the farm. The poverty in Mississippi is generational. Lack of opportunities in small towns and bad public schools makes it hard to break poverty cycle. But that is no different from other poor states. But that is gradually changing. About 25% of students finishing medical school here are African-American. And many stay in the state to practice. White medical school graduates more likely to relocate to another state.

I live in Oxford, MS, as a high school student I thought it was quite funny that you brought up the “preppy” thing. The two public schools in that town are Oxford and Lafayette, Oxford kids call Lafayette kids “rednecks” and Lafayette kids call oxford kids “preppy.” We even have a spirit day when we play against each other in football, we call this “cross town classic,” where people dress up preppy/redneck to make fun of the other school.
I lived in Memphis and often drove down to Southaven to shop. Even thought about getting an apartment there too. Overall not bad. Kinda miss it. Gooodman Rd has everything!
It is amazing how paranoid the young lady is about crime. I understand she is from a farm, but avoiding driving thru Jackson and Memphis simply to avoid "crime" is ridiculous. Lack of exposure for sure.
I have a love hate relationship with Mississippi. I loved the folks I worked with when I was at the Stennis Space Center. I loved driving through the country and stopping in the small towns. Cassidy's accent brought back memories. Cities like Bay St. Louis and Ocean Springs are beautiful. A lot of American culture, especially music, comes from Mississippi. However, there were some backward things that drove me nuts. I was not a fan of the politics. There was not a lot of opportunity for young folks. Most public schools are poor. There is a reason a lot of their best and brightest don't stick around after they graduate college. Agree with , it would have been nice to have interviewed folks of color as they make up more than a third of the population.
"backwards" why? because you don't like the politics, you deem mississippians as backwards? tell the peons, oh great one, who made you the gatekeeper of what is backwards and what is forwards? and in many places of the state, the population of black mississippians far far exceeds "more than a third." why more black mississippians weren't interviewed ought to be a testament to the character of this fellow making this trash. you can't have mississippi without black people. there's a bit of right in this, "unboxing," but most of it is pompous, stereotypical bullshit. i'll grade this "unboxing" as a d minus, at best, on its accuracy and factuality.
It works like this. Whatever color you are, how well you do is directly related to how much time you spend obsessing about your skin color. If you don't care about it no one else will either. On the other hand, if it's a big deal to you people will pick up on that instantly and it will tend to make them feel uncomfortable. What I just said might offend some but it is 100% true.
Enforcing narcissistic sex talk leads to better watch than explained. (Do these schools have sex education classes that might explain that topic so" pg 13", ?) Maybe they could incorporate movies about the good, bad, and ugly about such as : Adulterers the movie based this state and for the children of younger KIDS the movie which is a little more diverse.
Living in AZ 22 yrs but from AL and family in MS and LA. This made me so homesick for the South. I love Gulfport. The people there are so kind and hospitable in those areas. The young lady in this video is well representative of how open and engagingly friendly Southern people are. Pretty much the polar opposite to AZ. Makes me want to move back as I have family still there.

As a Native Mississippian that has lived away longer than living here because of job commitments, I think this is a quaint place to live. Never hear the good only the bad. People seem to forget what Mississippi is famous for. To begin, University of Mississippi Medical was the first in the world to do a successful heart and lungs transplant not to mention a female Mississippi Doctor discovered the cure for HIV in newborn. All of our universities are in the top 500. Ole Miss for it's law school, MS State for the best Meteorology program in the nation, USM for having one of the first BSN program and Jackson State for their engineering program. The history black universities like Mississippi Valley State, Alcorn A and M, Jackson State, Tougaloo and Rust College. All religions even a mosque built in Madison. Madison is listed as 1 of the top 10 cities to live. So I invite anyone who visits Mississippi, stop by and we'll have some sweet tea or coffee top off with evaporated milk which was invented here. Then we'll sit down for some catfish, hushpuppied, butter beans fresh corn and corn pains. Y'all stop by, ya hear.

Born & Raised in MS. Lived in North MS & South. I like your video. I think the kid you talked to that was about to graduate college had the best perspective on our state. We basically have an older generation (70’s-80’s) of white men who do not want change, they have power, pull and money. When their generation starts dying off is when we may see some positive change for our state. We do have many contracts with large industrial corporations that are bringing lots of jobs to our state and recognition, but no one pays attention because we are just MS. I think everyone should be required to read “Dispatch’s From Pluto” it is a great perspective into the state. Honestly, if you have never lived here, you will never understand it.

Channels like this almost always pass over the positive points in any state not just Mississippi.. The only thing that was mentioned in terms of International culture is the US city for the International Ballet Competition, which is on the Olympic level, and is held in Jackson every 4 years. Jackson was host to 4 International exhibitions in the 90s and early 2000s, featuring priceless treasures from Saint Petersburg, Russia, Paris, France, Spain, as well as Dresden Germany. When the Spanish exhibition was held, the King and Queen from Spain flew in for the celebration. Each of these Internationally recognized exhibitions were held for over 6 months each, and bought in hundreds of 1000s of scholars and priceless artifact observers. Natchez, Mississippi was only mentioned briefly in this video.. Natches and Adams County have over 200 structures on the national historic register, including the antibellum homes, and historical Mississippi River taverns, dating from the 1700s. Some of the larger antidellum homes rival the White House. Natchez has been featured in movies over the years and operates a film commission. Natchez is the oldest city of any size on the Mississippi River having been established in 1715. At 1 time, Adams County and the city of Natchez had more wealth than Wall Street. Also the blues music was only briefly mentioned but has spread throughout the world, originating in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, drawing in musicians such as Eric Clapton to study the music. Our message is, come on in and discover it yourself. You are very welcome.

This is a good review of Mississippi, I’m going to MSU this fall myself, and I’d like to say, Mississippi State University, from what I’ve heard, is a very nice college and has the highest academic scores in its specialties (in mississippi).
My twin daughters graduated from state in 2019. They loved it there and since I was 4 hours away, it wasn’t an easy drive. I never worried about their safety. You will love it! (LSU grad)
Hail State!!! MSU is an amazing school! They have a huge list of specialties that you can only find at MSU in architecture, veterinary sciences, aerospace and engineering. People have no clue! There is a long list of “who’s who” that went to MSU other than our awesome athletic programs. Starkvilke is one of the most fun & cute little towns in the state. I love it there!
My family and I have lived in Northeast Ms, Tupelo in fact. We are progressing in many areas. My family is college educated, except for my 17 year old. He is considering MSU, just like his brother did. We get it done even though we are layed back. The kids love it out in the country, we can do basically anything we want to. It is very peaceful.
