ES hands-down, it's not even really a competition. Or the Avalon Limited, which was a far more sophisticated car than the Platinum Crown, for a lot (like 10k) less money.
I pick the Crown. Love the unique modern design, better placement of the heated seats/wheel buttons, nicer wheels, the way Toyota has created a ‘pod effect’ for the driver and passenger. The winning factor is the AWD. We’ve ordered a Crown Limited in Heavy Metal. Way to go Jeff! You’re a winner as well. Mal
I have the 2024 crown XLE . I love this car. 1200 mile road trip went at 40mpg. It is the magnetic gray/black interior. .Price was less than the Lexus, without all the bells and whistles. Great car.
I love Toyota but I have an ES350 now and my Toyotas are like old girlfriends. My Lexus is my new squeeze. Lexus is like riding on a magic carpet in style and comfort.
Well here is my comments because I just purchased a Platinum Crown. We are an older couple that liked a little more luxury than the gas mileage. 1. It is Metalic Grey color and I did not like the design of biotone red / Black / Black matt or with gold instead of red. It just looks too busy and color separation looks weird. I like the black matte over semi metalic grey gloss. 2. Hybrid Max will be in the 2024 GRAND HIGHLANDER in its platinum trim model. 3. Camry, Avalon, Crown, Lexus 500h, Acura Tlx ... LEXUS???? YES, YES!! The Crown is more compared to me to the 500h but without the leather and additional $15k Price tag. The Crown looks semi cheap with the plastic in different places but adheres to everything else of an 500h. Obviously, this car is bigger than the camry, ioniq 5 and 6. Cant say it is bigger to the Grand Highlander 2024 model which uses the hybrid max too. 4. I am neither here nor there for gas. I was more directed to the adaptive suspension which the camry or other Crown trims do not have. 5. I love the TSS 3.O. The safety features are great. 6. The lights and 21 inch wheels are cool with the sunroof. 7. I bought my car with tax complete out the lot for $57k. $1500 below sticker. Overall, it is everything I can expect from a Lexus 500h and Genesis GV80 but without the price tag. 😊
I would have loved the Crown if it came with a tailgate instead of a trunk. It looks like it would have a tailgate, and that would have made it so much more competitive against compact SUVs.
Crown looks newer but that doesn't magically make it better. Besides having the new IT factor, the crown is underwhelming. The lexus is still sleeker and way more luxurious looking
@@kwasebi agree. I test drive with both and crown looks impressed me. Looks different than others and gorgeous. But driving experience is Lexus better than crown because of 21 inch wheels. 21 vs 18 makes big difference. But if we talk about exterior i can't compare them. Crown definitely better.

I have sat in both! I was shocked to see how cramped crown felt! The rear headroom was strangely small due to the curvy design of the back, my head (I'm 5 11) kept touching the headliner. It also felt very grippy, that's there isn't much flexibility to change your sitting position for passengers where they sit. Interestingly, avalon and ES had the same amount of rear headroom, on paper! But they were pleasantly comfortable and roomy.
Hi Jeff, thanks for the review. I’m watching you from Vicksburg, Mississippi. I like the Crown Limited. When interest rates climb back down to reasonable levels I plan to buy one.
Got my ES 300H ULTRA IN JUNE, very very quiet. Enjoy everything about it. I traded my 2016 Jaguar XJ R Sport but I do think the interior of the Jag was a little nicer. I know the LEXUS long term will be more reliable.
Great review, Jeff! I have to pick the Lexus ES 300h over the Crown. But there's no way I'd choose that red interior and I don't feel comfortable about 19" wheels. The Crown has a lot of pluses but those insane 21" wheels are a deal breaker. There's no way I'd go with 20" or 21" rims, they look awful and sooner or later will be damaged by road hazards. In fact I wonder if the wheels could be downgraded to 19"? I guess I'd have to look at lower trim levels that have 19" rims. Oh, I'm out here in Idaho and have followed you for about five years, Jeff. Thanks and take care.

Enjoyed your head-to-head review Jeff! I’ve tried both and was pleasantly surprised by the Crown - ride, features, and styling were all appealing. I was at Toyota for a Camry Sport test drive but snapped my neck when I saw a Crown and said “What is THAT?!” The Lexus 300h Sport was also a great ride, smoothest I’ve ever driven - probably a result of its suspension. One drawback to the Lexus is the pass-through door rather than seats that fold down, that was a disappointment and my ONLY negative. The biggest difference is the 300h is a Lexus, the Crown is still a Toyota. Although the Crown is a great addition to the Toyota lineup, it’s a well-appointed Toyota. The ES-300h is a luxury car and it feels like one. It depends what you’re in the market for, and I was after what the Lexus offers.
At similar price points and quality, one would begin to start looking at the cost of ownership over time. What are the auto insurance rate differences, maintenance costs, trade-in value after 5-7 years?
I traded a 2020 Avalon Limited hybrid for a 23 ES350 Ultra Luxury. MSRP was$55380. Same money as a platinum Crown, which has no HUD, or power tilt/telescope wheel. I have driven a Crown. The Lexus interior is far superior to the Crown, and is much quieter. Also the Mark Levinson sound system, is heads and tails what’s in the Crown. Also Lexis warranty is longer than Toyota. To me, it was an easy choice. The Lexus.
I was driving my belovet VW Passat R36 with its low frond bumper towards the bank to withdraw all my cash, when a ES300 Hwith road presentation zoomed past me and accidentally crushed a pair of vise grips on the road. Despite the minor incidend, I continued on my journey, enjoying the scenic views and the feeling of the wind in my hair. Thanks for reading my comment despite the fact it doesn’t have many likes.
Lexus name is bigger and better… but I don’t know why I am more attracted to Crown.. but when it cames to price they both are almost same so if I need to choose objectively Lexus is better choice for the longevity
The ES is the better car but the crown is easier to get into. Southern Ohio is where I’m at and I recommend if a person wants a crown get the XLE non turbo.
for my next car i need to focus on the front passenger seat comfort, how do they compare? seat cushion length (my wife and I are tall) and lumbar support? adjustments. also lexus engine and running noise vs the toyota, i hear the toyota mid level hybrid is NOISY and rough, what about the lexus engine roughness and noise?
The hybrid es is the same power rain as the limited crown. The v6 ES is super quiet and smooth but gets half the mpg. The platinum crown is pretty quiet.
For Lexus, the F Sport would not be the one I would use to compare with the Crown. Lexus was not designed for performance. It is for luxury and comfort. If you want performance, buy a BMW, Benz or Audi. Turbos give you more things to break down over time, and a non-Hybrid Lexus (ES 350), while worse for gas mileage, is simpler and thus easier to maintain in the long run.
Thank you sir for doing this comparison..was hoping someone would. One of these 2 cars is what I’m about to buy here in Lafayette, LA. Starting to look like it’s going to be the Crown. My local dealer called last week..told me has a black Crown Limited w Advanced Tech Package coming in this week..exactly the configuration I would have wanted..maybe not the color..black wouldn’t be my first choice but might end up looking pretty good. I’m 66 years old w tricky knees..thinking 15 or 20 years from now, going to appreciate the ease of getting in and out of my car! Just hope the JBL stereo system doesn’t suck on this Crown..the M L stereo on the Lexus was probably my biggest factor of going with the Lexus.
We bought the Crown Platinum. We can use regular gas. We bought it because we are also older and wanted the height. Note: when you put the car into Park the drivers seat moves back to make it easier to ge out. When you push start it will move back up. The JBL system is not bad.
Personal opinion plays a significant role when it comes to judging which car looks better. Each person has their own preferences, whether it's about design, performance, or features. What matters most is finding the car that resonates with you personally and meets your individual needs and tastes.
I’m actually going to get a better deal on a ‘23 Lexus ES 350 Ultra Luxury with all options than I could get with the Crown since dealers are adding thousands of $$$ to the MSRP of the Crown while Lexus dealers are taking OFF $$$ from the MSRP of the ES models since they have plenty in stock.
Here in Northern California the trend seems to be to discount the ES 350 below MSRP (~$2.5K) and to adjust the ES 300h hybrid over MSRP (no adjustment to $4K adjustment). I have seen Crown adjustments from $5K to $10K over MSRP. That's just anecdotal evidence, not a reliable survey.
@@Myshcan yep. In the whole CA seems like hybrids are in high demand. I was not able to locate any Lexus NX hybrid base trim in north CA without markup or 6-9 months wait. Finally locate one in south CA with the exact color and trim, put a deposit in and reserved it, arriving in April. Family and I gonna fly down, take a short vacation and drive back. 😊
@@jml9550 Nice catch on the NX. In researching, it seems to be an excellent vehicle. I looked at one and they wanted a $7K markup. However, my wife had trouble getting in and out of it, so we went with the ES.
@@Myshcan Yeah got lucky on that S. Cal NX hybrid. I told the S. Cal salesperson that I will not pay a dime over MSRP nor any add ons, I was surprised that his manager agreed. Previously I already had a deposit with an N. cal dealer but the car is nowhere in site and the salesperson doesn’t even know when the next allocation is. Funny my wife is the opposite, she doesn’t like getting in and out of my 2017 ES350. Maybe she is used to her current 08 RX350, which will be my son’s first car once he gets his license in a few months.
@@jml9550 Good deal in these times to get one at MSRP. I also put in an order that didn't materialize and wound up buying out of town, but only an hour's drive away. Must be a fairly typical scenario these days. Anyway, as you demonstrated, it pays to shop around. Those cars at MSRP can be found.
From Singapore, where we have the most expensive cars in the world. We will not be getting the Crown as the price is pretty close to Lexus as told by my Toyota dealer, who is also the Lexus dealer.
Jeff, I'm trying to work here and am distracted by your old skool rap. Luv it. Great plane editing, btw. Traded in our 2021 Venza and I just got the very first 2023 Limited Crown from the dealership out of the showroom up here. Let me tell you, people are heads turning like crazy and doing the slow walk in the parking lot. This car is hands down the best car I've ever purchased. The power is great and the styling for a $ jump from the move up from XLE to Limited is worth it, but not for another $16K for turbo to Platinum and bigger wheels for me. This is just a sexy beast that works performance and style wise.
Why is AWD so important to some people. I can understand if you live in the snow belt but in most of America it isn’t needed. In fact if you want to have a more sporty and fun car to drive , RWD is the way to go.
Worth mentioning that the Crown name is applied to 4 different cars. One of them, not sold here, is the expensively built successor to the old Lexus GS. The one sold here is made from cheaper parts.
You failed to mention that there are differences in the Ultra luxury lexus 300h than that f sport. Also you cant compare the higher horespower crown to the Lexus hybris. Compare the crown limited to the es300h so it would be apples to apples.
Houston, TX. All I can think of his how firm the ride is with those massive wheels and little tire. Still trying to find a car as comfy as the early 2000s ES, Avalon and even Highlander. The base Camry seat is actually better for long trips from my own testing 1000s of miles of driving because these ventilated seats by Toyota are so so hard. My family's Ford and GM's ventilated seats are better ergonomically and softer - this is where Lexus/Toyota have failed, not sure why they can't get it right.
I would like to drive the crown in the platinum grade. Love the heavy metal color. I drove the limited grade, and honestly didn’t love it. Felt like I was in a Camry hearing the engine noise. I have an Avalon now. Now, if we can get what I’d be interested in purchasing in my area.
That crown will get a humiliating beat down from the Lexus build quality and all of its features did it have a Mark Lev in it also!? oh my gosh and the same money almost? guess which way I would go lol
I really enjoyed this comparison, as many others you have done before, like the various trims of the Avalon a couple years ago. Can you do a comparison between Avalon XLE/ Crown XLE or Avalon Limited / Crown Platinum? Not just the numbers (we can read those in the brochure), but actual look and feel, and quietness, drivability, and odds-and-ends that one car has and the other doesn't (Moonroof vs panoramic fixed roof, headlight features an quality, driving and parking assist systems, HUD, sound system quality). I think that would be really interesting.
Hi there and thank you for the compliments. That one would be a very good comparison. It might also be very tricky to do because Avalon is really hard to find these days. Maybe at a used lot? And crown we just don’t see that many of them. But I’ll try.
I’m watching you from Saudi Arabia and thanks for the video man! But honestly still im not sure what I chose Crown here is totally different than in the us
I have an Avalon and when I looked at the Crown at our auto show it seems like the seat position is higher like a crossover but you don't have the headroom of one. I feel like my Avalon limited with it's quilted leather seats and dark wood trim just look nicer. The Lexus is for me the pick of the two . I am hoping for AWD standard on it's redesign.
Thanks for this review. I was at the Chicago auto show in February and was trying to compare the Crown to the Lexus. After watching your video, I prefer the looks of the crown. I could do without the gloss black panels on the sides, the matte black trim aound the bottom and wheels and I wish the moonroof wasn't fixed.
The Toyota Crown name goes back to the early days of Toyota. 1950's i believe. We have not had one in the US in many decades but good to see the name back.
I love your energy in this video. I’m from Florida. The crown is a lovely vehicle, i been in one due to my cousin owning one. I personally am a Lexus enthusiast so I must pick the es😂
The Lexus wins in Texas. The Crown mpg is disappointing (not as good as the old Avalon). The appearance is disappointing. The back end appears to have been replaced after being rear-ended...the "replaced" rear end is emphasized even more with the special paint option available on the Platinum model, which looks like that baby's diaper needs to be changed. The BIG black plastic grill resembles a cowcatcher. The stubby Crown looks old compared to the stylish Lexus body style which has been around for more than five years.
🤔 I’d be Team T-Crown all day long ~ but I’m MIFFED , PERPLEXED as to WHY they chose to use a STATIONARY double roof on it , instead of one that OPENS….. That’s enough for me in itself to put the brakes on what otherwise would have been my choice to BUY !
I don’t like the gloss black on the wheels or on that lower door panel I prefer the wheels on the limited better perhaps flat black on the bottom of the door panel
A retractable sunroof on the Crownb takes away headroom, especially on this style. Headroom is more important to me than a sunroof that I would never open anyhow.
Who wins Between Crown and ES 300h? What parts of each car do you like? Thanks for watching AND Subscribing! Jeff

Clicked for the thumbnail. Then noticed the video was great so kept watching :)
Thanks for reinforcing that a good thumbnail can at least be a door opener for people. I can’t wait until we get to finish our collaboration.
@@Toyotajeff wohoooo.
Jeff, This is a fascinating comparison. 🤔The ES wins on style but the Crown wins on capability. 🤩
I don’t know if anybody else has done a comparison of these two cars, so I was really excited about it
@@Toyotajeff I believe you are FIRST for Crown vs ES. How about a Toyota Crown vs Ford Crown Victoria?
Good day Sir! I am watching from Altanta, GA. Keep up the good work!
Loved the review! Subscribed! I'll wait for ES refresh to decide.
Lexus is better looking.
😂Nah, the Crown has the superior luxury design.
Clearly Lexus is not even near the crown in looks. ES definitely looks better than Avalon though.
Strong disagree
Personal opinion plays a significant role when it comes to judging which car looks better. Each person has their own preferences, whether it's about design, performance, or features. What matters most is finding the car that resonates with you personally and meets your individual needs and tastes.
To each their own, I feel Lexus looks boring.
Holding out for the Crown Signia Wagon.
Great for daily driver, long trips, and occasional camping.
hard choice but id probably want to try the crown out; looks more bolder and masculine 😁
G'Day Jeff, Watching you reviews here in Australia. Keep up the good work.
This dealer has a second rip off sticker. Do not pay this, find a dealer who will sell at MSRP.
Great review, I'm currently considering both of these!
I have the 2023 NX350h. I am not impressed with the power. I would pick the Crown over the ES Lexus bec of the huge hp difference.
Thanks for comparison 👍
Of course!
Why is AWD so important to some people. I can understand if you live in the snow belt but in most of America it isn’t needed. In fact if you want to have a more sporty and fun car to drive , RWD is the way to go.
Love the crown from Taiwan. The price range of the crowns is US$ 63K to 73K here.
😳
Worth mentioning that the Crown name is applied to 4 different cars. One of them, not sold here, is the expensively built successor to the old Lexus GS. The one sold here is made from cheaper parts.
I have a '22 ES hybrid, this will be good...
Watching from Boston, MA. Thanks, Jeff!
You failed to mention that there are differences in the Ultra luxury lexus 300h than that f sport. Also you cant compare the higher horespower crown to the Lexus hybris. Compare the crown limited to the es300h so it would be apples to apples.
Watching from Ghana 🇬🇭 keep up the good job
Wow! What a showdown, Jeff! This is awesome because the MSRP allow you to get either vehicle for about the same money. Good stuff!
Does it drive tinny and hollow?
AWD in the Crown wins the day. I'm getting a limited next week.
That’s awesome. Thanks for weighing in Sara.
@@Toyotajeff Did you find a big headroom difference between the limited and xle? I had originally ordered the xle.
@@sarasmith9952 there is no difference. I believe the headroom is the same.
@@Toyotajeff everyone else says there is a big difference between the headroom with the fixed glass roof and the xle without
awd is useless
@@Toyotajeff Thanks. If I lived closer, I'd stop by with my Avalon (2022 XLE), but it's a bit too far to drive there from Massachusetts.
@@deaconmichaeljoens8206 just a long day drive :)
lexus all day! i don't think the crown's design will age well. Also, the Lexus will have a better resale value
Lexus design looks dated. The world is moving away from these boring designs.
@@bggees car designs has been subjective but Lexus have always struck a nice middle ground. It’s why they sell soo well
Watching from Australia, awesome review
I’m watching you from Saudi Arabia and thanks for the video man!
But honestly still im not sure what I chose
Crown here is totally different than in the us
The Crown is King Jeff!11
ES 300H Lexus, love this vehicle, very smooth, very quiet on the road, can’t go wrong with this vehicle.
I pick the crown 👑
Watching from Augusta Georgia ❤
Hiya Amanda!!
SAUDI ARABIA 🇸🇦
I have an Avalon and when I looked at the Crown at our auto show it seems like the seat position is higher like a crossover but you don't have the headroom of one. I feel like my Avalon limited with it's quilted leather seats and dark wood trim just look nicer. The Lexus is for me the pick of the two . I am hoping for AWD standard on it's redesign.
Crown seems to be more of a modern take, like the Germans, where the ES is “old” luxury like other brands.
Jeff, will you do a review of the 2023 Crown Limited VS. the 2023 Venza Limited with driving impressions Please?
Do both models use premium gas ?
Watching from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia 🇲🇾
I am watching from Miami Florida and I love your videos and I love Toyota cars but it’s hard to choose
55K that’s insane you can get for this money Highlander hybrid family SUV or Tesla model Y
In person people like the crown platinum with dual paint better.
Better than what?
Do they have a household outlet?
Thanks for this review. I was at the Chicago auto show in February and was trying to compare the Crown to the Lexus.
After watching your video, I prefer the looks of the crown. I could do without the gloss black panels on the sides, the matte black trim aound the bottom and wheels and I wish the moonroof wasn't fixed.
Big mistake with the FIXED roof enough for me to pass on the crown !
Watching from Aurora, Colorado!
Love the channel, Jeff…San Diego
Hi Ted! I’ll be in San Diego area in a couple weeks :)
Crown looks so much better.
Thanks for this video... Is this the same crown that produced in 70's and 80's? Bcoz the logo is different from those produced earlier...
The Toyota Crown name goes back to the early days of Toyota. 1950's i believe. We have not had one in the US in many decades but good to see the name back.
@@chuckmillirons6529 you should own one... Believe me you would never regret... It lasts for decades...
Is Toyota Crown Suv available in USA?
No not yet. Hopefully sometime soon
Watching from Long Island, NY.
I'm watching you from Orlando Florida. Hollaaaa......😂😂😂
Hollaaaaaa Abigail!!
Watching from Dallas, Texas
Greetings from Long Island, NY, Jeff...not too stretchy lol
Lexus wins! I love the comfort of Lexus! Lexus is above comparison when it comes to comfort!
Crown wins my vote
I love your energy in this video. I’m from Florida. The crown is a lovely vehicle, i been in one due to my cousin owning one. I personally am a Lexus enthusiast so I must pick the es😂
There are two fundamental differences between those vehicles. -Crown is made in Japan, Lexus in USA. 2-Crown is awd, Lexus not.
This guy has same reflex as me to plane 😂thanks for the review
From Mexico City! Lexus will be my choice much more luxurious and elegant, Toyota well is a Toyota only and cheap tacky look!
Watching from the UAE 🇦🇪
🤔 I’d be Team T-Crown all day long ~ but I’m MIFFED , PERPLEXED as to WHY they chose to use a STATIONARY double roof on it , instead of one that OPENS….. That’s enough for me in itself to put the brakes on what otherwise would have been my choice to BUY !
I don’t like the gloss black on the wheels or on that lower door panel I prefer the wheels on the limited better perhaps flat black on the bottom of the door panel
The Lexus IS the better value with these two models … but I have zero interest in it
A retractable sunroof on the Crownb takes away headroom, especially on this style. Headroom is more important to me than a sunroof that I would never open anyhow.
