Everything you mentioned about this watch, making it "the worst," is exactly what i feel makes it great. Rolex rarely deviates from their tried and true formula and when they do it's a breath of fresh air. They are always so serious with their designs and seeing something a bit different from them is what makes this a true collectors piece in my opinion. If i had the financial means, i'd buy one right now.

This is my favorite Rolex. Bravo for being different, for having the balls to juxtapose fun with stodginess. That is exactly what will make this watch an all-time classic. A tinted crystal and lightning bolt hand. Come on. How cool is that? How daring and beautiful. I applaud this one.

    • @johnnyennis9864

Yeah, I think he just hates the look of this watch, and can't seem to justify the cost based on his own experience and reviews. I know very little about luxury watches, and have never experienced one. I simply enjoy learning about movements, and the associated brands, as I hope to one day own a modestly priced automatic that fits not only my budget, but suits my appreciation for mechanical and aesthetic design. I'd like to know as much going in as I can before taking the plunge. The first time I saw this watch I thought it was beautiful. I like the colour scheme, and the green glass. Some may say that's a sign of my lack of experience/knowledge. Still, I appreciate the visual reference to the origin piece, and the original purpose of the 6541. It offers a slight variation to available Oyster aesthetics. Is it worth the price jump? I'm not sure. Is it the worst watch? Heck no!
I'm typically not a fan of Rolex watches (not that I could ever afford one), but for some reason I enjoy the look of this model.

Not that I'll likely ever have the funds for one, but the Milgauss is literally the only Rolex watch I'd ever actually want to own. The magnetic shielding, the story behind it's design, and not to mention the crystal is one of my favorite colors, and this watch just looks cool to me.

The watch design was done by breaking Rolex’s own “rules” of elegant and sober design, so to speak. In this, it’s the worst of its own kind. It does not follow a straight line - it breaks it! No such a thing can be named “better” or even “good”. Than, it’s “the worst”.
But than, that’s precisely the point. Sometimes, what our emotional guts want is to see the line or “perfection” broken!

I wear it every day an it's so unassuming that it's like a secret luxury that almost no one knows I have. I have had maybe 2 people (clearly Rolex-knowledgable) comment on it. I bought an Apple watch a bit ago and that lasted about a year before I abandoned new tech for old tech and my Milgauss was back on my wrist. As others have noted, the commentary you made is exactly why this watch is so fantastic. Yes, it's very odd for a Rolex. Yes, it's a weird mix of colors. Yes, it's got no real practical advantage over an Oyster Perpetual (I don't plan on wearing this near an MRI machine). So is it the worst watch ever? Not on this wrist it isn't.

I mean, I appreciate the details of the Milgauss such as the green crystal and polishing on the bezel and bracelet. While it is similar to the Oyster Perpetual, I think the engineering and cool factor that comes with the electromagnetic shield makes up for the $3,000 price differential. I would be far more mad if I purchased a carbon Richard Mille only to realize I paid for a house and got a plastic watch.
All being said, I hope this video drives down the prices of the Milgauss on the grey market because the purchase would feel so much sweeter near entry level Oyster price.

I own this watch with the black dial and I absolutely love it. I've had it for 8 months and I've yet had to adjust the time. And the worst watch in the world? What an absolutely absurd proposition. Look at some of the ridiculous watch designs being sold out there and you will see that this is really a beautiful and functional watch. And when he said that you can buy the same turquoise dial in an Oyster Perpetual I almost fell off my chair. Those watches are now selling for significantly more than a Milgauss. Don't pay any attention to the price on the Rolex site, you simply cannot buy those watches in any store for the list price. A very misleading post by Watchfinder.

I have this watch. I love this watch.
I saw it in the case at the Rolex boutique and immediately asked to see it. They had ordered it for someone who bought a different watch while on a cruise...so they put it on display. It had been there less than an hour when I saw it. While I was looking at it, some other guy walked in, saw it and wanted to see it. The salesperson told him that I was looking at it and he was welcome to look at it after I was finished. I took my time. I then told the salesperson I would take it. He went to retrieve the box and the other customer complained that he didn’t get to see it. The salesperson said, “That watch doesn’t belong to this Botique anymore. That watch belongs to this gentleman. If he says you can look at it, you can; but that is his choice now, not ours.”
The guy, who had actually been quite demanding and rude and had been in my personal space, hovering over my shoulder, just off my right elbow the entire time, turned to me and asked if he could look at it and try it on.
    Nope.
And I was in the process of moving, so I had the Botique box it up right there and then mail the watch to me at my new address a couple of weeks later, rather than wear it out. And if I’m not even wearing my brand new Milgauss, there’s no chance in the world I was letting some rude stranger, who doesn’t understand personal space, wear it even for a second.
I love this watch. I was considering getting one with a black dial, as I think the orange lightning bolt would ‘pop’ on the black dial. But the blue looks great and I even have some shirts that match the color scheme. Love this watch!

Milgauss for the person that really insists on wearing a watch during an MRI

The only thing bad about this watch is the cartoonish lightning bolt second hand. That said, some people find it whimsical and fun. To each their own. But the “worst” watch? Never. That title goes to Invicta.

Indeed, this brilliant video is rattling the belief system of Rolex fanatics: those who think that because it is a Rolex it must be beautiful. Unfortunately, when it comes to aesthetics, Rolex holds, at best (with its Submariner and its Cellini line), a mid-tier position in the horological hierarchy.

You missed the mark here buddy:
    1) Lightning bolt straight from the technicians’s/engineer/PhD of horology from the 50-60s,
    2) GV: dude, SCIENCE! it’s formulation, they didn’t bother to patent because it is so extremely complicated to replicate. OG, Bro.
    Disagree 100%.

I respectfully feel different about the Rolex Milgauss Automatic. I have one in my collection and will never part with it. The Milguass may not be everyone's favorite, but I think it is a rare and special piece. The Rolex Professional series is inspired by adventurers who push boundaries of human existence: scuba diving, race car driving, flying, mountaineering, yachting, spelunking, and more. The Milgauss was inspired by scientific discovery and the pursuit of knowledge. I do not think it was designed as an accessory to a business suit on Wall Street or to be worn on a Paris runway, rather this anti-magnetic tool should look appropriate peeking out from under a physicist's lab coat or a medial researcher's hospital scrubs. As one who worked (long ago) in a medical research lab, it appeals to my great respect for human curiosity and discovery. While the Milguass was offered through the years in a few configurations, it is the 50th anniversary model that is my most favorite. The blue green color created by the physics of light passing through a carefully crafted light green sapphire crystal might remind a chemist of green hydrogen, the climate neutral method of producing the most abundant element in the universe; a biologist may consider that it represents photosynthesis, the natural process of turning light energy into chemical energy. As for the unique orange lightning bolt used for the precise second hand, an anthropologist might pragmaticaly consider that it symbolizes the historical discoveries of electricity and magnetism - appropriate for the function of this watch; while a mythologist may muse that the symbol portrays sudden illumination and the destruction of ignorance - fitting for a watch celebrating the noble search for truth and knowledge. Or maybe it is just a cool watch for an appreciative few, which will now appreciate in value ;-)
