I still rely on NSL for most of my NorthSouth journeys. *North-South Line (9.5/10)* - OG line and somehow still the best. Great video! TEL would score the highest for me if it only has more seats. EWL at 7 is being too kind, since it’s the worst travelling experience for me with barely-there air conditioning and a stench that can only come from sweaty students and PMEBs. Also, a new fleet of train is in order as it also feels the most worn.
Glad that the algorithm recommended this, especially since I've recently started reading up on the MRT system. Thanks for this video, I believe the ratings are quite accurate! I agree with your points, but I want to try and explain some things: (Assuming that your journey was Springleaf -> Woodlands -> Choa Chu Kang -> Bukit Panjang -> Botanic Gardens -> Buona Vista -> Outram Park -> Punggol LRT) 1. If you look closely, it is the only EWL - NEL interchange, as well as the only EWL - TEL and only NEL - TEL interchange! Overall great video, and I hope I helped to answer some of your questions!
To be fair to the NSL and EWL, they are both old lines. The train you rode on the EWL is the old first gen Kawasaki C151 train and most of the trains running on the EWL are old while the NSL is using mostly newer ones after SMRT swapped the fleets in 2018 for some reason. For the TEL, despite the noise, it is a pretty decent line, the doors closing warning is good enough, better than the NEL, so I don't see what's bad about it. The exit signs yeah, can be improved much.
SMRT probably minimizes the use of older rolling stock on NSL (C751B & older) probably as they're gradually being replaced by R151s, so their route maps haven't been upgraded to be able to include Canberra MRT that was built in 2019

4:51 I not a Singaporean. But I just visited SG and stayed near DTL. I could have sworn the lights for the doors always flash up no matter how near the next station is
Also, The Bukit Panjang LRT right, They should add the doors to making much more safely. And the carriage was not that shaky, and the famous glass, every glass pane wasn't broken. 6.5/10.
Nice video I was waiting for purple line. Good review and good to know your opinions and how it just weighs in with your score that helps me understand it.
You forgot 1 more LRT line: Sengkang LRT But I can forgive because it's similar to the Punggol LRT Also, at 7:28, the train you were talking about (newer train) was a C151B. And the reason it (C151) shakes so much is because it's the FIRST MRT rolling stock that has been around for YEARS and YEARS! EDIT: omg 10 likes in 1 day the like growth is fast for now EDIT 2: omg skipped straught to 30, close to 40, first time i had many likes EDIT 3: OMG 40 LIKES!!! EDIT 4: YEYYYY 50 LIKES!!!!!!!!! edit 5: 60! 60! 60! 60! 60! 60!
Sengkang LRT I would give 5/10. It's sort of worse than the Punggol LRT, in that it's similar that it doesn't shake as much, but the turning makes it hard to balance. Example, Sengkang to Ranggung. The train turns at such a sharp angle that a lot of times I stumble. The stations themselves very dated also. Yellowing in many parts of the walls, and for some reason the column's rubber parts got a few places missing??
All LRT i'll give 1/10. They are a disaster to begin with, designed for masochists. There are no escalators, only stairs and lifts, and the lifts are hot like sauna all the time. The platforms at BP LRT's stations are split to both sides, with the tracks in the middle, meaning if you climb up the wrong side, you've to go down and climb up the other way. SK and PG ones fixed this problem for most of the stations but Fernvale station is still designed this way for god knows what reason. The stations are not manned so if you encounter any issues with the gantry, you might as well just give up and take the bus instead. And don't' get me started on SK station. SK East and SK West shares the same tracks there, and one can only know which direction it's going by looking at the electronic signage, many people who are not familiar with the place, or old people who can't read English, will often end up taking the wrong train to the wrong direction.
If a C651 had showed up instead when using the NSL, the A/C would've been weaker, & you get more but narrower seats (my shoulders would end up bumping into the adjacent passenger's)
I really agree with the TEL being noisy part...omg. an what's worse is that when I put on a noise cancelling earphone I can literally hear the wheezing sound of the air that's getting in to the cars urghh
To be fair, you should also consider in the context of the train lines. NSEWL are the og ones so they should be given some slack. NEL has the least amoumt of stations out of all the lines besides LRT, so maybe the gov felt that it was not really needed to go all high quality like the downtown line. Idk, my opinion.
i remember accidentally taking the west loop of punggol and the lrt just casually opeed the door at teck lee.Very funny,no wonder no other trains stopped there fr
Circle line going through every highly populated are is the reason it gets so crowded. However, used to live in Macpherson made me kinda enjoyed that line.
Hi there , I live in London have visit Singapore every year … you wouldn’t complain about the MRT or LRT if you ride the London tube. Cramped in the extreme no air con . Singapore MRT is like travelling first class compared to London , Paris or the very scary NYC metro .
hi Jordan, great video you have there! 👍 admire your time and effort to explore our MRT lines. just curious - do you recall how long the entire journey took and how much you paid for the transport fare in the end?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Singapore’s MRT and LRT lines. Since you live in a rich and modern country, it’s understandable you gave low scores to some of them. Many countries would love having what Singapore already has.
i want to fly back soon. From Changi Airport to Woodlands Mrt, which line one is faster & easier? Transfer at B.Merah then City Hall or the Circle line via paya Lebar?
Maybe you could consider making a series of vlogs reviewing every single MRT station in the similar way highlighting the pros and cons of each station including location convenience, the entry/exit locations and designs, etc.

US resident here, but frequent visitor to Singapore. A few comments: First off, nice video. Although isn’t there an LRT in Sengkang or is that just an extension of the Punggol Line? As to the TEL, we rode it about a week after the extension that included Havelock Station was open. I thought it was a very rough and very loud ride. We were just back in Singapore a few weeks ago, and rode from Havelock out to Parkway Parade. Much quieter and much smoother ride. Maybe the wheels needed some grinding down on the tracks to make them smoother. I’ve always seen next train time postings at NEL stations. Maybe a system problem the day you filmed. Not a fan of the Punggol LRT at all. We much preferred the bus. We always got confused as to which arm of the line we should get on. Slow learners. While I don’t mind the NS and EW lines, they’re both pretty regularly crowded and I find the NS Line to be slow. Haven’t taken the Circle Line enough to have an opinion. I like the Downtown Line. It got me out of a problem when a bus we took from KL to Sing left before we could clear Singapore immigration (pre-automated gate times). As a U.S. resident, however, I can safely say that ANY city in the U.S. would leap at the chance to have a subway system even 10% as good, clean and efficient as Singapore. You guys are truly lucky to have it.
It is great effort to take a trip down every line! Love the intricate details you find out about the stations and the train itself Here's a two pence to further improve the content of this video quality! Read up on other countries' subway/tube/train and do a great comparison with SG's! You had yet to hear UK's underground rail, they are so screechy, you have to plug your ear, or anytime you might risk going deaf Take the time to identify the model of the train? And why the functionality are built so as Enjoyed the video and cheers to future videos!
For the UK I think its because their trains leave some windows open for ventilation, as they don't have A/C, so more noise from the tunnel enters the train cars
EW line person here. I don't know why I was always excited to ride the Bukit Panjang LRT when I was a kid. Maybe its because of the novelty factor for me as a person who rides the EW line 95% of the time.
3:09 i live in sao paulo, and i have the same experience with the city's monorail line 15, i only rode it just to complete the list of lines of the sp rail network lines, and i didn't knew that the train ran very bumpy 💀💀💀
Actually, you cannot see outside the BP LRT because it passes by HDBs and whenever it passes by them, the windows automatically blur for privacy 😅. I guess it’s actually a good thing.
For the TEL is mostly curving so it is the noisiest because on the NSL I forgot which part but between somewhere is from Newton to Dhoby Ghaut where it curves. All trains have headlights but circle line is so dim, when I saw the plastic on the headlights it is so dirty and yellow from being old. It also does not do it justice like the TEL AND DTL where they use blue or white LEDs
Your video is helpful, Just a quick question: Right in the beginning, east west line, I see a beautiful building. Is that New Creation Church? If yes, what station is that exactly? We're planning to visit that church next week. It would be really helpful if you answer. Thank you.
My most favourite is The Thomson East Coast Line. Due to the animated screen above the doors, It feels much more perfectly. However, The screen on the ceiling of the train could be much better.
The dot matrix display is underutilized except on NSEWL & DTL, as they don't tell you what lines you can transfer to at interchange stations. Those on TEL are also often blank. They should get to show the name of the next stop instead of having the colour displays above each door to do so, & let the colour displays show the line map all the time, instead of alternating between that & the next stop's name
As for the NEL, it does have waiting time. It is just the screen that you are looking at, that means the next train is less than 1 min away from reaching the station. It is weird that you did not realize but every MRT line does not indicate when the waiting time is < 1min. Prob you don't take the MRT line often.
I finally clicked on this video, it’s on my recommended for so long that I keep seeing it every time I visit UA-cam. TEL is pretty fast too, live nearby one of the stations and the time to reach Caldecott interchange feels damn fast as compared to the red or green line.
i have a question for you, will you be taking and rating the sengakng lrt, jurong region line, cross-island line, johor baru singapore RTS? and will you also rate every single bus?
The funniest thing about the BPLRT is that one of its stations was built next to a ITE causing extreme congestion before and after school overstaining the small LRTs. The outram park station is also the 2nd last line in the northeast line hence it is extremely crowded not to mention having 3 mrt lines interject into each other, its practically how most people vet onto the northeast line
7:53 Next train with no timings either shows that the train arrived or it just left 8:51 it is mend to be crowded, especially serangoon and dhoby ghaut
3:29 Reminds me of someone idk who run through a closing train door just before they got crushed(I saw personally but didn't record) Don't try that and don't trust LRTs? I guess? But fr don't actually try to slip through a closing door like that other guy did
I really agree with how BAd the new signages are, although they claim it is "Simplified", they have added 1 extra step for commuters to way find and that is walking up to a destination signboard to find out which exit has what there...
Maybe LTA was worried about the escalators at the end of the station platforms with the more popular exits getting more crowded, if passengers knew in advance which escalator points to which exit
LRT works like a tram , which is placed beside the mrt . Only one lane is used . Queue platform not wide enough or big enough , that is why I agree LRT get the lowest rating in all the lines in Singapore
I just wanted to point out that not all LRT lines in Singapore are bumpy like said in the video. For example , as a punggol resident , I can definitely tell you that I have nothing bad to say about our LRT lines
One time i rode the mrt to Sengkang and it was not even peek hour yet but the ccl line was crowded When i say crowded, i mean crowded like you’re just stuck at the edge of the doors in the train
No man there some surprising things on North east line MRT train because the C751A train is one day taking overnight service and even though the go too slow the train doesn't care itself. The C751A train cares the passengers to their destination. Do you that the North east line is only the line that motor run sound is strong and overhead power. It is better than every lines. And all the other lines are uses third rails

7:51 There are waiting times. When you went to outram park station, the system glitched and it didn't show the next train time

Before 2015 on NSEWL, if your next train was more than 6 min away, the system would also simply go blank & hide the waiting time
4:51 I not a Singaporean.
What kind of video camera you using ? At 0:29
hi where did you get the mr line logo on the thumbnail form
You forgot 1 more LRT line:
Sengkang LRT
But I can forgive because it's similar to the Punggol LRT
Also, at 7:28, the train you were talking about (newer train) was a C151B. And the reason it (C151) shakes so much is because it's the FIRST MRT rolling stock that has been around for YEARS and YEARS!

@@OrbitalForce that was how i practiced my chakra balancing skills. its been 18 years ^_^
All LRT i'll give 1/10.
@@Kindaichi83 The track curve from layar wouldve been too tight if fernvale was built in island layout
Idk, my opinion.
the announcements are not that clear. still no map on top of doors.
The ‘next station’ and ‘door closing’ gave me Singapore vibes lol
superb narration
Love it! Can’t wait to see more and subbed to the page 🤙🏻
Just curious what font is this?
i remember accidentally taking the west loop of punggol and the lrt just casually opeed the door at teck lee.Very funny,no wonder no other trains stopped there fr
Guess it was a gitch
Circle line going through every highly populated are is the reason it gets so crowded. However, used to live in Macpherson made me kinda enjoyed that line.
Hi there , I live in London have visit Singapore every year … you wouldn’t complain about the MRT or LRT if you ride the London tube. Cramped in the extreme no air con . Singapore MRT is like travelling first class compared to London , Paris or the very scary NYC metro .
6:25 really?? I take it decently and I can always sit down with alot of spare seats.
What about sentosa express, or does it not count?
hi Jordan, great video you have there! 👍
admire your time and effort to explore our MRT lines. just curious - do you recall how long the entire journey took and how much you paid for the transport fare in the end?
It took like 3 hours? And i can't remember the fee but maybe around $3 plus including the fine for overstaying

9:07 to 10:06, where is east loop and sengkang lrt?
Where is the Sekeng LRT?
The fact the oldest mrt line has the newest nsewl trains💀
Isnt there Sengkang LRT(STC) too?
not too dissimilar from Punggol lrt
i came across ur vid today n i love it, i also like how you added subtitles to your vid, very nice
0:45 and 4:46
It the PSD itself that make beeps sound when the doors are about the close.
and idk if your talking abt the door closing announcement
Maybe you could consider making a series of vlogs reviewing every single MRT station in the similar way highlighting the pros and cons of each station including location convenience, the entry/exit locations and designs, etc.
That sounds like a lot of work to put into one video, but to make a series out of it is a fine idea indeed!
@@boiboiboi201 Hence I suggested a series. This is an idea for you to create useful content that people would appreciate. I would particularly appreciate too if you could highlight the art and architectural distinctiveness of those better looking or designed stations.

A small youtuber in the country is trying make this possible. minus the architectural or design aspect of station aside, probably something you're looking for?
US resident here, but frequent visitor to Singapore. A few comments:
First off, nice video.
Why you don’t do the sentosa express
idk how but wow you got me excited and rooting for my go-to mrt lines hahaha, plus point for novel local content!
it's so fun seeing a youtuber walk around the route I use to go to work and school
It is great effort to take a trip down every line!
Love the intricate details you find out about the stations and the train itself
Here's a two pence to further improve the content of this video quality!
Read up on other countries' subway/tube/train and do a great comparison with SG's!
You had yet to hear UK's underground rail, they are so screechy, you have to plug your ear, or anytime you might risk going deaf
Take the time to identify the model of the train?
And why the functionality are built so as
Enjoyed the video and cheers to future videos!
1:39 Strangely enough, despite the fact that I take the TEL, I have never seen any of these signs
Now in the BPLRT, the C801B has been released and it might be good, so try it out!
How about Sengkang LRT? (JRL CRL and SLL are not available)
Hi so I'm going to Singapore on the 4th of July so please tell me what to bring
Bring yourself is more than enough.
Sengkang lrt?
3:09 i live in sao paulo, and i have the same experience with the city's monorail line 15, i only rode it just to complete the list of lines of the sp rail network lines, and i didn't knew that the train ran very bumpy 💀💀💀
Actually, you cannot see outside the BP LRT because it passes by HDBs and whenever it passes by them, the windows automatically blur for privacy 😅. I guess it’s actually a good thing.
The windows are blurred all the time on some C801 rolling stock, not only when passing near to HDBs e.g. when entering a station's platform too
Are you the one who posted ang mo kio singapore on Roblox?
For the TEL is mostly curving so it is the noisiest because on the NSL I forgot which part but between somewhere is from Newton to Dhoby Ghaut where it curves. All trains have headlights but circle line is so dim, when I saw the plastic on the headlights it is so dirty and yellow from being old. It also does not do it justice like the TEL AND DTL where they use blue or white LEDs
How about the Sentosa Monorail?
Not a MRT line LOL
Prob you don't take the MRT line often.
why no sengkang lrt
I finally clicked on this video, it’s on my recommended for so long that I keep seeing it every time I visit UA-cam. TEL is pretty fast too, live nearby one of the stations and the time to reach Caldecott interchange feels damn fast as compared to the red or green line.
Hey Jordan! Is there a way we can reach out to you to discuss possibly doing a podcast episode? Love your MRT series!
i have a question for you, will you be taking and rating the sengakng lrt, jurong region line, cross-island line, johor baru singapore RTS? and will you also rate every single bus?
ah boy ah. there was once a time when EWL wasnt so crowded and you could get seats any time of the week! 20 years ago... hahaha
U didn't go sengkang lrt?
7:53 Next train with no timings either shows that the train arrived or it just left
8:51 it is mend to be crowded, especially serangoon and dhoby ghaut
Reason why windows dim on BPLRT:
For privacy, smart windows are applied on the C801, C801A, C801B, to prevent passengers from peering into apartments.
UA-cam is recommending this to me, I don't know why but I think your subs is going to explode!
3:29 Reminds me of someone idk who run through a closing train door just before they got crushed(I saw personally but didn't record)
Don't try that and don't trust LRTs? I guess?
But fr don't actually try to slip through a closing door like that other guy did
Bro why you forget the sengkang lrt?
I rode that new line like a week ago, it's smooth and nice quality. I enjoyed
Nice video, watched the entirety of it 😊
6:45 there are headlights, but you could see when your in the station
Because, ewl, nsl and nel are going to town place, but ccl,dtl and tel are going to few towms only.
I just wanted to point out that not all LRT lines in Singapore are bumpy like said in the video. For example , as a punggol resident , I can definitely tell you that I have nothing bad to say about our LRT lines
thank you so much, I needed to sow this to my grandmother
What about Sengkang lrt??
When i studied in ITE West, i was quite impressed by the BPLRT but after a few rides, that was by far the worst LRT i have took in my life
after a few years u shld be adapted to its bumpiness. most of the time i dont even need to have support to balance
Why didn't you care that shell station called Hume?
DTL trains are manufactured by Bombardier which also builds aircrafts, the similarity in raw materials used my contribute to similarity in smell
One time i rode the mrt to Sengkang and it was not even peek hour yet but the ccl line was crowded
When i say crowded, i mean crowded like you’re just stuck at the edge of the doors in the train
What was the total cost for going through all the lines?
Good job man.
Let's face it, the LRT is just a simple people mover system.
Jordan is a train station nerd, I respect it.
