I remember this! You know I pet sat for someone with chickens and they had a coop where the eggs laid came to a box on the side. I looked it’s called a coop with an egg collector. It also protects the eggs from predators.

Have one. Worked ok for a while. For the last 6 months everytime I open it I have either a rat or a rat snake. Have not been able to keep them out and the chickens are laying elsewhere. Might try to replace the cover with plexiglass. At least I will be able to see the snake before I open it.

I had a hen that figured out how to eat an egg by stretching her stinken neck in the hid away part and pecked the eggs!!! sooooo I turned the box around where they rolled toward the back instead of the front an put peepers on them everyone of them could not find the one eating and pecking the eggs , problem solved. I would still recommend this next box for sure, if I could afford another one I would definitely purchase one.
how much egg breakage is there from when they roll and hit the front of the box or other eggs?
There is no breakage with the nest box installed on a wall or placed on a level surface!
