    I’ll repeat the previous post because OMG is the only way to express myself!!! This is just spectacular and so unexpected, I would never believed that could turn out so gorgeous!! I craft with my granddaughter and this will knock her socks off. ... besides what 10 year old wouldn’t love mushing around shaving cream!! Thanks so much for sharing!

    I love this technique ! ! ! ! May I suggest: when lifting the 1st sheet you should place a 2nd sheet over the 1st sheet,this way you get 2 sheets for the price of 1. This is called a mirror image. Josie G-P.

    I learned from the Frugal Crafter, to stick your tape to a sheet or t-shirt several times before (she put it on) watercolor paper but I imagine it would work on most papers. It gives you your straight lines but the tiny lint bits keep the tape from ripping your paper 😄

    Just watched this for the first time. I like the technique a lot!! Going to try it!! I'm going to use freezer paper to put the shaving cream on, though. It has a shiny coating on one side, so should work well. That way I have a nice flat surface to work from. :)

    This was a cool technique to show us
    I think I'll try it in a bit
    Of course, any art stuff takes practise
    The first try often comes out like
    SHAVING CREAM
    Be nice and clean!
    Shave every day and you'll always look keen!
    :D
    Great results there - much more like traditional paper marbling than most of the other videos I've seen. Looks like it could work well with sheets from a watercolor paper pad for headpages to bind books

    This technique has been around for a long time, it is great fun for sure! Watercolour paper is probably a cheaper alternative, that's what I use. The only problem with this technique is the smell, your work smells like shaving cream for a very very long time. Best to use a shaving cream that has no odor if you don't want your work to smell like shaving cream :)

Also, feel free to tell everyone, "steer clear of this guy!" ... Anyway, I think - think - you could use Yupo by using a casserole dish, filling with water, dropping in alcohol ink, and dragging your Yupo through. Same effect achieved - I think. Cheers and congrats on a wonderful channel.

    Hi Jane. I have never seen this technique before. I am captivated. I have never done any painting art form but looking for a hobby. I think I have found it. Can I use a larger foil tray instead of a platter to hold the foamy ink mixture? I can’t wait to get started. Thank you for your video.

  • @bbbp65

    I have done this technique with dye ink and cardstock. It’s so much fun. Can you explain the difference between Canson mix media paper (that you buy in a pad) and the mix media artboards. I read on the Canson website what they are but just wondered why you suggest using the artboards vs just the paper. Is it because it makes it more sturdy or is there something else about artboards that you prefer? I have the paper pad already which is why I’m wondering if I need the artboards too?

    • @JaneMonteith
      @JaneMonteith  6 років тому

      Charlene Herter you don’t have to use the art boards. Card stock is fine. The cabs on art boards are thick and sturdy and they are similar to that of a watercolour block pad in that the paper is glued like a block with all the other pages until you peel one off with say an exacto knife. Hope that makes sense.

    • @bbbp65
      @bbbp65 6 років тому +1

      I am guessing with the artboard you do not get any warping. That always happens when I do the technique with cardstock. The shaving cream has enough moisture in it to warp your paper. I haven’t tried it with the mix media single sheets but that may be one advantage of using the artboards.
      I love your videos and can’t wait to try some of your techniques.

    A word of caution: Use the name brand shaving cream. I tried an off-brand from the dollar store and I thought something was wrong with my ink because it would not blend smoothly and it looked like it was full of undissolved dye specs. None of mine turned out even half as well :( i think it was the shaving cream I was using. It was more creamy than foamy. When i dropped the ink on the shaving cream it like started reacting and the ink bubbled? The cream kinda absorbed the ink instead of it sitting on top, it's like it sank to the bottom. No matter how much ink i added the colors came out super muted. I used Tim Holtz ranger inks. Im going to try different paper and shaving cream
