That was a super fun way to share your 12x12. I love the idea of all WIP's and one start. I might try something like that next year. I love your beautiful sentiment about sharing our common thread, it's a beautiful way to start the year with intention.

Happy New Year, Arica! Best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy 2024.
Thanks for sharing your first 12-by-12 with us. I don't think I'd be up to doing one personally, so I appreciated being able to experience it vicariously through you.
In answer to your question, my first foray into counted cross stitch was in 1975, although other different needlecrafts came before and afterwards. My main influences were my mother and grandmother and I treasure those memories with them. I also really appreciate the ability to have an online community of stitchers and to be able to access resources (materials, education, etc.) from all over the world. I could never have envisioned such a thing in the 70s!

Thank you for tuning in and sharing your story with us :) do you have any younger family in your life you can share in stitching with. It would be lovely to pass it to a 4th+ generation. And I couldn’t agree more with flosstube, what an incredible resource we never could have dreamed up - I’m glad someone did though! Happy stitching :)

Arica, thank you! You are so very eloquent and summed up what stitching means to us. I find stitching very meditative and try very hard to make time each evening to stitch. Great video! Loved seeing your progress on your 12X12 projects. I learned how to embroider in Jr High and needlepoint in High School. When I learned how to cross stitch everything was stamped and it was frustrating because the lines didn’t get covered up all the way and it didn’t wash out. My mother-in-law introduced me to counted cross stitch when I was dating my husband. Stopped doing any crafts for years because we started having kids and I didn’t have time. Got into quilting for a long time and then started stitching again just before the pandemic. So about 4-5 years ago, and I have fallen down a very very deep rabbit hole😂😮. I am loving every minute. My soon to be daughter-in-law asked me if I could teach her how to cross stitch. She has some friends that stitch so she wants to learn how. So for Christmas I got her everything she needs to get started. I showed her how to get started but I’m sure when she comes back over she will have some questions. Looking forward to your next video. Have a Happy New Year with your family🎉🎉🎉

Very enjoyable chat Arika! I always enjoyed stitching since I began in grade school, but work kind of took over my life after college and until I retired. I did continue with projects here and there mostly for baby or wedding gifts, I didn’t stitch much for myself. Now in retirement I am enjoying stitching for myself and love the calming effect it brings me. I love your flosstubes, they are very thoughtful, and I look forward to hearing your 2024 plans next time! Happy New Year!

I had a couple of my grandmothers start teaching me crochet when I was in elementary school but then I moved to the other side of the US and ended up giving up on crafting until I went back to visit as a teenager. Then I started relearning crochet and didn’t rediscover cross stitch until I was almost 20. Then I loved it but I didn’t stick with it because the craft store I was getting my supplies from closed and it was hard to get supplies, especially the specialty flosses and any fabric other than 14 count white Aida. I’ve picked it back up off and on over the years but I injured my shoulders so it’s taken me awhile to get back into the habit of stitching. I now have more supply choices than I can imagine and since discovering flosstube I am getting answers to all my stitchy questions that I couldn’t find help with before. I’m looking forward to your Teresa Wentzler video since when I started stitching I bought a book of her projects that I am too intimidated to try now that I’m not as ignorant to how complicated her patterns are. Happy New Year and thanks for sharing.🎉

@@FibersandFlossCanada There’s a few of her patterns that I have that I would love to try. I have one featuring the poem “Footprints”, a dragon wrapped around a castle, some fairytale ones, and a medieval sampler, just to list a few. I think the first one I’ll tackle would be the medieval sampler. It looks really beautiful. Maybe next year after I get the hang of stitching on linen. I’m about to start my first project on linen as soon as my order arrives. But I will probably start kitting the sampler up this year and maybe it’ll be 2025’s “new year, new start.”

LOVED the 12x12. Thank you so much. I will not be joining the peacock stitch along...lol....but will find it interesting to hear how you organize your floss etc. My needlework journey is a long one as I am old...lol. My grandmother was. a sewist and made many clothes for me and from what I heard from my mom, she also did embroidery but I never sew her do it myself. She did share knitting with my mom and although I did learn how to knit, it was not something I needed to do. In my teen years, I think I learned cross stitch on my own from a magazine I think. It was not something I did regularly at all. Once married there came along a stitching club of some sort which was promoted through home parties and I partook in some of that but I really did not start stitching until later in life when we moved to Ottawa where I discovered the 'Cross Stitch Cupboard"....wow.... I loved that place and now the rest is history....lol... I have no siblings with whom I stitched...just myself. I do find it calming and soothing for sure. I also love the colour of the projects and of course the subject matter also counts. Thanks again and have a Very Happy and Healthy New Year with lots more stitching of course.

I am rather slow at stitching as I am also quilting and am making a quilt for all my grandchildren (13 of them). I guess I was lucky when I purchased my Peacock Tapestry - it came all kitted up with silks! And I bought it from a shop!. The only problem is that the numbers are in DMC conversions and I have no idea what the silks are. So I have had to get out my DMC floss card and match them up and write in the DMC numbers for the symbols.
