  • In this video you can see using a screen (pot) melt technique. All steps are shown: from glass weighing and arranging to final cold work and slumping. I also mentioned two mistakes which could ruin the project, but final result is great - two beautiful plates.

with the scraps from cutting the ellipse do a melt into a brick shape and ill pull it into longer thinner rods and you can have some sweet unique reddish murrine. great save. ive been inspired to find a bunch of very similar stainless baking trays. i have a ton of pattern ideas from this. thanks for sharing, liked and subbed for sure! again, many compliments. great save indeed.

also i think with cutting it in half you might have missed an opportunity to show off both sides of the melt. it might have been cool to flip one half over and show the alternate and then fire that back together as one homogenous piece. super cool either way though. really impressive success from defeat no matter what, and cutting it in half at all was pretty gutsy.

if you do get large chunks of scrap like that off pot melts or similar again definitely let me know. these can be attached to a solid pipe and melted fully then made into rods or smoothed out into crudely formed sheets for further kiln use.

    I love this!
Do you mind sharing your firepolish while slumping schedule?

If you slump at 1200F for about 20 minutes, the fire polishing works great if the edges were ground with a 320 grit diamond tool.
