Cristine, I have been an aggressive nail biter since I was about 6 years old (I’m now 30). I love your channel and recently bought some Holo Taco to support you, my partner promised that I could paint his toe nails (mine suck from years of a, now cured, fungal infection - yuck!). After I made my order, I realised that I had actually stopped biting most of my nails for long enough to have a small amount of length. I had tried to quit in the past with little long term success. Once I realised that I had stopped without trying, I was more motivated to keep some lengthy my order arrived a few weeks ago and I’m loving my new glass nail file and nail tool kit, and I’ve been painting my nails on my days off (I’m a nurse so can’t wear nail polish at work). Ooooh, I got way too exited on a catalyst making the top coat cure better. Like with hindsight ofc it’s polymerasation and an air activated homogenous dispersed well is such a neat trick!
Speaking of polymerisation, I believe the miracle gel line by Sally Hansen actually touts the fact that the polish from that line is longer lasting because of that specific concept!
this is so well timed, as I'm eagerly awaiting my second holo taco order, after the first one blew me away. I've never ever had more seamless international shipping (and it was free to boot!). my polish job is looking pristine a few days in, which honestly I thought was like chasing a unicorn. I'm SO excited to finally get home holo (because yes, on my first order I committed the cardinal sin of sticking to cremes 😱 ) please don't disown me from the holo fam - the tea collection was just too yummy
I put my acetone in an eyedropper bottle while I'm doing my nails and then use the dropper to put it in a little bowl to use with my cleanup brush. That way if I'm using a particularly pigmented polish or different colors, it won't color my acetone or stain my skin.
I have always loved pretty nails, but between being terrible at doing my own nails, working with my hands and putting them through alot of wear, and hating the cost of going to the salon, I just don't have manicured hands. After watching many many Simply Nailogical videos over the last year or so (at first because Cristine is so funny) then because I really enjoyed the content of the videos. A few weeks back I ordered a bundle from Holo Taco with the Long Lasting Basecoat, One Coat Black, Galactic Unicorn Skin, and a Super Glossy Taco, then topped it off with a Matte Taco for good measure. After using it, I literally went back online and ordered the Everything Taco and Gold Flake Taco. I am obsessed! The quality of the polish is awesome; it goes on like a dream. LOVE! And this video is super helpful and motivating.
Thanks for this - love your presentation style and all the fun little extras you add into the video - i am sure it took a whole lot of work but you feel like a complete natural. 48 year old dude applying nail polish for the first time and found thid video super helpful thank you.
Thanks for the informative video Cristine! This is super helpful. I just wanted to add that ultimately painting your nails takes practice. I have personally found that using a holo polish (linear or chunky glitter) hides a lot more imperfections than a creme. So for anyone that's still a beginner like myself, maybe start with holo polishes!
On the note of only doing one coat of taco, I personally always use two. This is because I have pretty thin nails that tend to flake especially at the tip. When I use two top coats, it reinforces my nail with another layer and my nail doesn’t flake/break as often :)
Thank you for your video and you have helped me with a lot of different things. I never really knew why you would wrap the tip in all of your videos. You have helped me since 2014. My favorite videos are your cheating at water marbles only because I can’t do them ether. I have started to use a latex barrier but if I don’t have any I tend to use a peel off face mask and that works well.
You also don't flood the cuticle because your skin is soft (movable) and is moister than your nailbed. If you put polish on it, which is brittle (even gel which is less brittle), that's exactly where your nail polish will start lifting first. Your cuticle skin is super delicate. You can push it back by accident reaching into your purse, cereal box, whatever. If something pokes it, it moves. Now imagine putting something brittle on top of that and you can see why it cracks or lifts.
For people who are having trouble with there nail polish only lasting a day I too had this problem and I started using a primer and dehydrater it helped me a lot I also do buff the nail because it helps me
I need this. I was a chronic nail biter most of my life and have recently wanted to take better care of my nails in the last two years. But alas, my nail painting expertise is........yep! Thank you for helping us with these super basic tutorials!
I just made an order yesterday and it already dispatched, yay ! I'm impressed, you have really upped your game since you started, and I have followed you and bought the OG set. I was used to waiting a few days but I should have my package in about 48 hours yay ! If you have followed Cristine you will know her nails are HEALTHY, but yellow because her products are intensely pigmented, and VERY high quality. Peely base is very good but doesn't protect your nails from staining but the other bases do. 👍
The downside of wrapping the tips I feel is that I can't scratch the way I could with a naked nail. So if I'm itchy, I would need to grab something to scratch instead of using my bare claws 😅
ive been painting my nails since i was 5 years old and can make my manis last a while but im watching this because i might learn another nail tip that would up my game!!
Thank you Christine! I started painting my nails bc I bite them way too much and have ruined nail lines on both my ring fingers. I've stopped biting my nails. like 100%. and also I get little universes on my nails. two birds in one stone. I'm still learning how to get a completely smooth finish, but I'm sure I'll get there with some tutorials and practice.
The other reason to wrap the tip is because a lot of glossy tacos contract a little bit when they dry, so that prevents the polish from leaving a tiny sliver of bare nail at the tip. As for glossy tacos...I've never used cristine's, but for a long time the go to in the nail community has been seche vite. You can get it at Sally beauty if you don't feel like ordering it online and waiting. But it is quick dry like 20-30 mins after you finish you can rummage around in your purse type quick dry. There are also specialized tacos for like heavy glitter that give you that glass finish in one coat rather than 2 of a normal quick dry.
I've always wanted more of your polish & was able to get 20 polishes/bases/taco so excited to use em all! You really got me into polishing in 2015 and since then I'm known as the nail polish girl hehe you even liked one of my designs back in the day (black with old Menchie gradient to tip). So glad to see you share polishing again!
I have shakey hands and little patience for nail painting so I use Colorstreet nail strips BUT those are so thin that if I let them cure without a proper top coat then they will chip a lot sooner than they will with one (even though they are advertised to have a base, color, and top coat). We love Holo Taco Glossy Taco in my house! It self levels, it drys fast, and keeps our nails looking great even a week or two later! We even have the Matte Taco too incase we feel the nail strips are too shiny! We do have some actual Holo Taco nail polish too (I referring to colors and stuff) but we normally don't have time to use it. My mother did just use it on her toes though so it does get used! And when we do use it, it's amazing!
Sorry if this has been said already but I feel like something nobody talks about for beginners is how you bring the brush and polish out of the bottle to control how much polish is on the brush and where on the brush it is. For example, I usually do shake the bottle before I use it (I don't have problems with bubbles) so there is excess polish on the plastic shaft part of the brush. So I scrape the excess off of the plastic part and the bristles of the brush which also shapes the brush if it's round. Then dip back in the bottle for a different amount for each nail and scrape one side of the brush to place the polish on the brush where I want.
im so happy you had this video i got some of ur polish as an early chrisstmass gift to myself since iv been wanting it for a while and quickly rrealized having let my ex do my nails back in highschool meant i had AABSOLUTLY NO IDEA what i was doing now lol love you Cristine keep being awesome ♥♥
For me personally using a good base coat (orly bonder) is the single most important step to getting my manicure to last. I can use ultra cheap nail polish or high quality indi polish it lasts all week. I also use a good top coat but it seems less important but both are a good idea.
Omg you unlocked a memory for me , when I did nail art all the time , I used to use the underside of my tongue to fix dents or finger marks . Is that bad , wait lol nah you've shown us ingesting nail polish is fine and noble as a nail artist (disclaimer don't eat nail polish)
Oh my! I thought I was the only one who licked my finger and gently “buffed” out the smudge whenever I get one while doing my nails. And- I used to use seche vite quick dry topcoat but now I use kbshimmer’s “clearly on top” quick dry topcoat. Works beautifully!
19:20 for bigger dents i very very lightly fill in the dent with the same color nail polish. and when its dry go over everything with another top coat. it might make the whole nail a little thicker but luckily i only need to do that for big dents. for smaller ones like she did in the video, afterwards i like to go over again with top coat to hide the finger print marks. also for none-gel nails getting a little desk fan to make nails dry faster is a life saver
Thanks for this version! I love your content! I have a question about wrapping the tips. For you just do the free edge or underneath as well? I can never quite tell from watching Cristine and it was hard to tell in this video still, maybe it’s in the stream?
She doesn’t TRY to get a ton underneath but it does happen when she wraps that free edge. I always just try to make sure the whole end is covered and anything that ends up farther underneath my nail I usually just leave there 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ edit:spelling!
I definitely need to start using a base coat and top coat and I think get rid of some of my old polishes that I just don’t use and probably aren’t good anymore to save myself the frustration.
Another tip to make your polish last that I haven’t heard from Christine. I have extremely flexible nails. When my fingernail bends it causes the rigid cured polish on the nail to chip off very quickly. To get my polish to last I have to use OPI Nail Envy which reduces the flexibility in my nail thus results in a reduction in chipping.
She mentioned before in the nail lasting tips that nail stiffening polish is not a good idea for everyone. Because it may even make your nails fragile and break more easily. Unless your nails are thin or flexible like your case, it may help. So i don't think its a tip for eveyone.
Same. My polish always flakes off where my nails bend, when they bend. I just touch them up and slap on a new layer of topcoat. The extra layers help, too
Thank you! I've been wondering how to do a better job, and decided to replace my old drug store polish that was probably going bad with some new stuff. This really helped me jump back in and be confident!
something that helps me with duck nails, especially if you work in food service, is always using 2 coats of top coat and painting the underside of your nails with the top coat when you wrap the tip.
Great tips. Thank you. It pisses me off when I work so hard on my nails before work and then go to work and they get all messed up. I’m in healthcare and I get up very early and that’s when I do my nails. I always make sure they are dry enough and then go to put on my gloves to give a shower and then take them off and they are all messed up. I will definitely be trying some of those tips. Thank you.
you are an amazing teacher but like. after watching this i'm gonna stick to press-ons lmaooo. i am a makeup hobbyist and i thought that involved a lot of detail work. i don't have the patience for this at all, i honestly can't fathom how it is worth it to people to have a solid color on their nails.
I like to add another coat of glossy taco a few days later on the glitter polishes especially. I once got long lasting base, Play Rosé, with super glossy taco to go 4 weeks without a single chip. I just cannot with long nails so I ended up removing the polish to file down my nails but it was still going strong. I went a little file happy so I'm currently waiting for my nails to grow enough so there's a tip to wrap and I don't end up looking like I finger painted 😅 Now off to add some cuticle oil
My strategy has always been to do whatever as long as the nail itself looks good, throughout the day all the polish on my fingers will flake off (I get to pick it off which makes me happy) and by the next day it looks perfect, to the point where people ask me who does my nails lol by the next day it’s already chipping bc I don’t use a base coat and my “top coat” is a clear polish
Helpful sensory and anxiety tip: peely base peels just like Elmer's glue on your nails lol when I'm having a really bad day, I'll use peely base and then peel the polish off.
I've painted my nails on and off but I've become a proper Lacquerista (tm) ever since I became a Simply Simp! This stream was both fun and really informative since there were a few things I still didn't know. (I have always had trouble with imprints on my nails) Now if only I could figure out why I have 1 or 2 polishes whose formula refuses to dry solidly on my hands even after 24 hours! I suppose it's a matter of body chemistry since the same polish dries solid on my mom's nails just fine but she couldn't see herself using it as often as me and it happens to be my favorite color :( no idea what to do about that so hopefully Professor Simply can have a class about that lol

@@lemon4087 I will just swipe over the top again to smooth it. After 2 layers, any possible streaks are gone. Even with HT Black, I use two.

@@rezzy8590 I love this. Maybe it’s a more cros branched brand or it has functional groups better suited to binding!
this is so well timed, as I'm eagerly awaiting my second holo taco order, after the first one blew me away.
The gap is also to help prevent the polish from touching the skin to prevent contact dermatitis or a allergic reaction
Nail polish Master Class!
Thanks Cristine 😻
For people who are having trouble with there nail polish only lasting a day I too had this problem and I started using a primer and dehydrater it helped me a lot I also do buff the nail because it helps me
I also find that waiting longer between coats of polish help prevent bedsheet marks
Great advice!
I appreciate the explanation about why you're not going all the way towards the cuticle! I wondered about it too!
Ever since I watch simply, I've been decent at painting my nails. I'm definitely gonna take notes 👀👀👀
The downside of wrapping the tips I feel is that I can't scratch the way I could with a naked nail. So if I'm itchy, I would need to grab something to scratch instead of using my bare claws 😅
Yes the dent trick works. I’ve been able to save a finger after denting it.
ive been painting my nails since i was 5 years old and can make my manis last a while but im watching this because i might learn another nail tip that would up my game!!
This was such a helpful video! 😊
I love Glossy Taco. I've never had manicures last this long before. Stuff works!
I’ve also been using the liquid latex while I’m learning and it’s helped a TON
That was extremely informative!!! Thank you Cristine ❤️
This was so comprehensive and helpful!!!
I ordered some Halo Taco and am watching to prepare for it's arrival! I'm so excited!!!
I finally made my first holo taco purchase! I’m so FREAKING EXCITED!!
I love your videos. I think I would listen to you talking about anything. AKA PLEASE MAKE MORE!
im so happy you had this video i got some of ur polish as an early chrisstmass gift to myself since iv been wanting it for a while and quickly rrealized having let my ex do my nails back in highschool meant i had AABSOLUTLY NO IDEA what i was doing now lol love you Cristine keep being awesome ♥♥
For me personally using a good base coat (orly bonder) is the single most important step to getting my manicure to last. I can use ultra cheap nail polish or high quality indi polish it lasts all week. I also use a good top coat but it seems less important but both are a good idea.
i like how she starts counting to make sure she does indeed have 10 fingers 😂 5:56
You have beautiful natural nails!
Great tutorial! Thanks! 🥰
Omg you unlocked a memory for me , when I did nail art all the time , I used to use the underside of my tongue to fix dents or finger marks . Is that bad , wait lol nah you've shown us ingesting nail polish is fine and noble as a nail artist (disclaimer don't eat nail polish)
I love all the silvers you've created
This is so helpful because I want to paint my own nails for prom but have never done it before!
this was so helpful, thank you! you always help inspire/motivate me to actually take care of my nails haha
Awesome tips and tricks! Love watching your videos! I'm at your site and spending all money!
Oh my! I thought I was the only one who licked my finger and gently “buffed” out the smudge whenever I get one while doing my nails.
And- I used to use seche vite quick dry topcoat but now I use kbshimmer’s “clearly on top” quick dry topcoat. Works beautifully!
Can't wait for intermediate level.
Been needed these tips for sooo long! So helpful to watch 😁
this video is a life saver!
I always just try to make sure the whole end is covered and anything that ends up farther underneath my nail I usually just leave there 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
edit:spelling!
I would definitely call you an expert hobbyist 👍
something that helps me with duck nails, especially if you work in food service, is always using 2 coats of top coat and painting the underside of your nails with the top coat when you wrap the tip.
I’d love to see a vid like this on short nails like. So short u can’t wrap the tip
Great tips. Thank you.
I love this so much 🙏💜
Maniology is the first add I saw when I came here. so funny
Studying up while I wait for my very first order from Holo Taco to arrive!
Thank you so much this really helpful
Cristine please do a video demo for applying the multichrome polishes, they are the most difficult for noobs to apply. Thankyou!
you are an amazing teacher but like. after watching this i'm gonna stick to press-ons lmaooo. i am a makeup hobbyist and i thought that involved a lot of detail work. i don't have the patience for this at all, i honestly can't fathom how it is worth it to people to have a solid color on their nails.
It's information you learn over years and years just like makeup.
Really loving this video! I learned a lot of new things, going to do my nails right now 😘
As a guy, this is so helpful
Thanks for the tips simply mom💖
I like to add another coat of glossy taco a few days later on the glitter polishes especially. I once got long lasting base, Play Rosé, with super glossy taco to go 4 weeks without a single chip. I just cannot with long nails so I ended up removing the polish to file down my nails but it was still going strong.
I went a little file happy so I'm currently waiting for my nails to grow enough so there's a tip to wrap and I don't end up looking like I finger painted 😅
Now off to add some cuticle oil
My strategy has always been to do whatever as long as the nail itself looks good, throughout the day all the polish on my fingers will flake off (I get to pick it off which makes me happy) and by the next day it looks perfect, to the point where people ask me who does my nails lol by the next day it’s already chipping bc I don’t use a base coat and my “top coat” is a clear polish
Helpful sensory and anxiety tip: peely base peels just like Elmer's glue on your nails lol when I'm having a really bad day, I'll use peely base and then peel the polish off.
🙀🙀🙀 you’re a genius.
It's funny you should say that bc before peely base and unt came along, ppl just mixed Elmer's and water.
@@kyidyl yes, and I was one of those people :)
I've painted my nails on and off but I've become a proper Lacquerista (tm) ever since I became a Simply Simp! This stream was both fun and really informative since there were a few things I still didn't know. (I have always had trouble with imprints on my nails)
Now if only I could figure out why I have 1 or 2 polishes whose formula refuses to dry solidly on my hands even after 24 hours! I suppose it's a matter of body chemistry since the same polish dries solid on my mom's nails just fine but she couldn't see herself using it as often as me and it happens to be my favorite color :( no idea what to do about that so hopefully Professor Simply can have a class about that lol
I looked away. I could not watch you damage that nail! 🤣
It would be very useful if there were time stamps with the questions answered :) very useful video!!
