I kinda wish I had that same feeling.
Maybe it was the fact that when I was younger I watched all of JSE's playthroughs as well as Markipliers.
Anyways, when playing yes the monsters could be seen as scary and threatening, but really, you're perfectly safe. In my playthrough: (spoilers)
-The reaper leviathan never attacked me when I was early game
-The smaller hostile mobs (crabs, electro jellyfish, those coral scrap snake things) never seemed threatening
-Great mobs (sea treaders, the large end game leviathans) were never menacing nor all too impressive
      -The deep sea wasn't scary.
The only thing I feared, was when I was swimming in rather deep water, in unfamiliar terrain, where I could see nothing but water, and I was swimming in-person. Though that wasn't too scary.
Maybe learn to enjoy the fear by screaming then laughing while still frightened so you can experience a great high

@@cate01a I was chased into the open ocean by a reaper leviathan in my early game lol. I have always been afraid of deep water. about weapons/defense, the seamoth even has great defense; it can tank I think 2 hits, and can safely outrun the creature. The standing robot thing is basically invincible with grappling and enhanced boosters, and the submarine is honestly useless.
Though yeah nah it's perfectly fair to reckon you're at a life/death moment there! Must be terrifying!

something that really crushed me earlier this year was losing my save progress on red dead 2. I fucked up all my local steam saves when I switched to an SSD, and my old 40+ hour save was gone with that. I was really loving the game, super excited to reach it's end after the long long journey it had been. imagining playing through the game for forty more hours is so painful. I've had a *ton* of fun with Cyberpunk so far. It's quite buggy, but not in a way that really bothers me. I really enjoy the story and side jobs, the first person dialogue scenes are immersive as hell, the combat gets great as you progress in skill trees and get cybeware, and the world and it's lore, vibe and variety is amazing. It's currently the kind of game I really get lost in when I play it.
I don't really feel any need to defend it against criticism, because I know the game is flawed and that people's expectations weren't met. I guess I am fortunate that the game seems tailored for me.

@@northerncassowary8567 I keep seeing people say that Cyberpunk isn't an RPG and I'm curious to their reasoning for that. I admit I'm not super experienced with RPGs, but to mee there's all the ingredients; There's attributes, skills, weapons, cyberware and gear that you can all level up/customize individually. There's skill checks that you'll find peppered throughout missions and gameplay that can lock you out from certain endings, dialogue trees or results. That's not to mention that there is absolutely a branching story (at least, I've seen significant differences between my first playthrough and my second based off of the choices I've made)
I know it isn't a complete "blank slate character" game, but I still consider it to be an (action) RPG. Hell, The Witcher 3 is pretty unanimously considered to be an RPG, and Geralt is more of a well defined and "locked down" character than V is.
I don't mean to attack you because you think the game isn't good (I know it's got flaws, even though I very much enjoyed it. Oh, and the state of the console version of the game is indefensible) I just want to know why it isn't an RPG to you.

After all, award ceremonies or annual look-backs are just an excuse to talk about whatever was most exceptional in recent memory, but there's always some stuff that gets left out or glossed over. I'm so glad you talked about Cyberpunk. My main issue with it is why it picked the TTRPG as its setting. It takes out so many unique and retro-futuristic aspects from Cyberpunk 2020 that it's confusing to me. It's also strange that they took a TTRPG, an RPG that lets you do pretty much anything because an actual human can improv a response, and gave it an extremely linear story with skill trees that don't make you feel like you're a unique character but it just feels like the same protagonist who's decided to use an assault rifle instead of a shotgun. 2077 is just bleh to me and didn't give me what I wanted out of it, but at least I got a relatively ok 70 hours of gameplay out of it

Cyberpunk is such a weird game, I'm always left feeling bad for people when they don't like it, because I really do, although saying that I wouldn't be able to give a reason as to why. The game is very broken, very underwhelming and very mediocre, but it caught me, granted I haven't dumped many hours into it (20~) it's a game I like going back to, loading it up when I have free time and just enjoying being in it. I'm not even someone who can normally stay with single player games for long sessions but Cyberpunk can easily hold me for 2 hours. To comment on you cyberpunk bit; from everyone ive asked, thats played the game, they've had a variety of different bugs some barely getting any but some minor visual stuff, occassional tposing (tends to be quite funny but less immersive), to downright gamebreaking bugs where i had to verify my game files and reload a previous save (i had 2 of these moments throughout my playthrough one being crashing which turned out to be a massive missing file i had, another being a suitcase locking me in a hotel room where nobody else had this glitch, you can guess what mission this was).
It's weird because it feels each bug is different for everyone which in my mind doesnt make sense. I enjoyed my 45 hours of the game and will play it through again once they've released some more content for it. I think the cult mentality is more around CDPJR rather than the cyberpunk game itself, I was hyped by the game but saw fatal flaws such as the PS4/Xbox drama etc.
I appreciate the game for what it is and its been fun to play it, I enjoyed each different playstyle that it and looked at it as more of a "rogue like" game. I know you can get this with *any* game but i feel the expectation for cp77 is to play it however you like; RPG? there's aspects for it but feels a bit unfinished in my opinion. Build a cool class? yeah sure i built my character as a hacker, engineer, katana-wielding, supressed revolver, playing stealthy most of the game. I understand where you are coming from that there feels like some aspects are underdeveloped in terms of depth therefore don't allow you to fully gain interest in it. I do believe that stealth should be reworked a little as it can be very OP.
Yes IK i only spent 45 hours in it but it gave me enough for a impression and review, i will fully 100% the game when i replay.
For now i want to finish witcher and more No mans sky, thanks (if you read this)

You mentioned that a large number of people seem to completely disagree with you on Cyberpunk, and I think you were right when saying you could be having a completely different experience than many of us. People can have a very different subjective experience with the same content, but what I'm talking about is the objective stuff. A few examples: your footage - and that's just for this video - showed way more bugs and more severe bugs than me and 6 of my friends saw during all our playthroughs combined. Some of us did pistol builds, and nobody said they were underpowered, in fact the opposite, we could easily fight any battles with pistols on very hard. I also personally used stealth a lot, and I could handle almost all situations without a struggle.
I believe you genuinely had the objectively worse experience you described. I'm a game developer, and I've seen this countless times: something specific to a certain person's PC setup or playstyle can mean completely different experiences. Things that seem inoccous could have major impacts. A little overlay program installed 2 years ago and forgotten about causing visual glitches, or using the game's exe directly instead of using the launcher halving frame-rates due to some extremely weird OS stuff. I've seen someone with a shaky finger hitting a lot of the buttons twice in consecutive frames accidentally, bringing the repro-rate of dozens of extremely rare bugs up about 10000x, making him skip mission triggers regularly which in turn broke progress, caused animation glitches and didn't set combat related buffs and states causing too easy/too difficult experiences, broken AI and unfinishable missions.
I think this difference in experience is the cause of a lot of the defensiveness in your comments. When you say the game is bad due to 'X', but 'X' is objectively false in most people's experiences, it can come off to them as if you're just making up reasons to say bad things about the game. In reality, both experiences can be true at the same time. Maybe not rushing the game out could have helped bring your experience in line with others. Maybe you would still have disliked the game if it ran as well as it did for me and my friends. I just wanted to give you my take on this as you really sounded dumbfounded and annoyed about how so many people could enjoy the trainwreck experience you had. Maybe people just genuinely had a different time with it.

While the story, the world and the characters are really good. Everything else is meh. If you want to compare it to a GTA like then it's missing a lot of things and if you want to compare it to a rpg it's also missing tons of things. And even if you compare it as a shooter it's also full of issues. From balancing the gunplay (I'm level 22 and I already one-three shot everyone with a pistol) to how tense the combat/stealth really is since the AI is very basic. So while it's a good game, don't get me wrong. It's not a very good game and doesn't deserve any awards for his gameplay. For the music, story and world yeah I could agree with that. They spent a lot of time on the visual, but it feel like almost nothing on the gameplay/fun factor.

I’m so glad you also enjoy Odyssey as a guilty pleasure too! That’s exactly how I describe it. It’s my favorite “Skinner Box” game lol. I just got back into gaming this year after a nearly decade long hiatus so I’m often overly impressed with a lot of games, and I assumed that Odyssey may not be as fun if I’d played any of the other AC games from the last few years. Nonetheless, there’s something so pleasant about that gameplay loop. It’s a gorgeous looking game with fun stealth and combat mechanics, the story isn’t the best but it’s definitely easy enough to get invested into, and the limitless missions, areas, items, characters, etc. to find and conquer is really addicting. Like I said, a Skinner Box. The Radiant AI stuff is my main gripe with it but you can just avoid those auto-generated missions if you want. I’d love to see that sort of thing eliminated completely from these sorts of games and just refine the hand crafted missions they’re already working on instead of providing all this filler fetch quest stuff that just gets in the way of an already massive game. Anyways, glad you feel the same as I do! Lot of people hate the new AC games because they’ve “left their roots” - but I’m fine with it lol. The formula needed to be updated anyways.

there is a lot of cut feature that community is aware of and a dire situation inside the company on top of that, i'd wager this is where rabid defensiveness comes from.

It's a good game, it's quite fun at times, even addictive building up your network and playing resource management but the allure of the game. Hey Philip, happy new year! you asked the people who enjoyed Cyberpunk 207 why they enjoy it. I'll try to describe my feelings in this comment.
Sorry for my English, not a native speaker. I also prefer to lurk, I rarely comment in threads, but incase you were asking (warning, some spoilers in this comment for anyone who hasn't played Mankind Divided or Cyberpunk)
I've spent at least 70 hours in the game. Many of those hours have been spent doing Gigs and side missions. In fact, I'm actually very far from beating the game. I think I'm still 20% story mission completion. I like the game because it's the next Deus Ex for me, in terms of gameplay. Mankind left a sore issue for me with it's story. When the game ended, I felt "wait, what? that's it?" .. it made me feel like the game actually was just starting. We caught the bad guys but not the "bigger" guys, which made it feel anti-climatic as the news rolled on in the ending scene. In addition, Mankind divided, while having an amazing hub, has a very disappointing story for me. The content in mankind isn't much compared to the 1st Deus ex I played -- there's no problem in that, less can be better. However, in this case, the story ended on such a bad note for me that I felt bad replaying it. But I did. After the 1st, 2nd playthrough, the only things there is to do is really just explore other augmentations, considering I got all side quests in the 1st playthrough. But even exploring the other augmentations ran dry at some point as there isn't really many interesting things in the game. I liked the remote hacking mini game, though. Still, despite this, I played mankind over and over again. And I say this as someone who enjoyed the 1st deus ex for 172 hours (on Steam. more on non-steam)
So what makes me enjoy Cyberpunk despite not spending that much time in its story yet? Well, lets get the obvious out of the way first. I really like the setting. The music is whatever, but the setting is really good. Rarely I actually feel like looking at stuff on a desktop game and taking my time with its world. I like hearing the dialog. I like the massive amount of gigs and side quests. Many of them are actually very interesting to hear through. And I love the gameplay. There are a lot of ways you can tackle on enemies. There's a lot of hacking stuff you can do on them. Ultimately, I played the entire gameplay part like I would a Deus Ex - I snuck around, non lethally striking enemies. For combat, I baton'd everyone - just like I how would do it in the original. Ranged, I chose a silenced pistol fitted with non-lethal mods. It always did so much damage. On other playthroughs, I might explore some of the other weapon types, like shotguns, SMGs, etc. As far as I know, as long as you upgrade your weapons and keep getting higher damages, and mix other weapons, you can defeat most enemies just fine. I played the game on very hard, so if it's doable for me, it's probably doable for everyone else. I do agree that the game doesn't really feel RPG- wise though. But I just played it like how I would play a Deus Ex - that's why it never bothered me. However, I can't really comment on the story yet -- but what I've seen is really good. I was sad when that character died.
I do have many complaints about the game. The obvious? Many bugs, many many many. There are some gameplay flaws, and odd design choices. The crafting UI is just a mess. Inventory is just a mess. Map screen is map, and mini map isn't large enough. The first tier of vehicles is really bad and it's a slog to drive through them -- later vehicles are better. Still, despite that I think it's a good game. It's far from the BEST game, but I think it's almost there. Sure, a lot of changes need to be done to it and I agree that the game would need a massive overhaul to be better to be the 'best' game. But what's there, imo, is a good game.
But I dunno, I just played it as if it's the Deus ex but in another timeline, and that was plenty good for me. I can't really revisit the Deus Ex games anymore -- I already played them all to death, so this was really a heaven for me. I do recgonize the game isn't really that good though and that there were many 'dev' lies or hyped expectations.

I also had almost no bugs. The most I got was when I spammed the zoom in button, characters would vanish for a split second if they were too close, if I used the ping quickhack in an area I had just ran into, occasionallu some of the enemies behind walls would be t posing because they hadn't rendered yet, then once I moved closer, their animations would kick in. Closest things to game breaking bugs I had were a spot on the highway near corpo plaza where every car would crash into due to their pathing, and one time when a character on a phone call just randomly stopped speaking, and that was fixed by just using the 'wait' button in the game's menu. I have over 80 hours in the game, and those are literally all the bugs I've encountered
Edit: just remembered the only other bug I had- in the room where you can free brick, the ray tracing messed up and made the room unnaturally bright.

For me it's been my usuals; Team Fortress 2 (hard to get into/learn but literally does everything from every shooter all at once and awesomely), Smash Bros, Breath of the Wild (AC Odyssey but Nintendo'd, and truly honed in on exploration) and BeamNGdrive (please try it, it seems just up your alley! It's like how rtx/realistic shaders brings a bunch of little but new possibilities and gameplay features to minecraft, or how the physics in teardown MAKE teardown, but for Dirt Rally/Driving in GTA - a police chase in Beam or rally course is unreal-ly, terrifyingly awesome! The devs pump out massive updates and improvements every five seconds too!)
My catch up/revisits have been Black Mesa (an awesome remake while still having it's own unique style/feel), Mario 64 and Sunshine (a lot jankier than I remembered) and GTA Online again since it snowed (still a complete mess but a guilty pleasure). My "new" titles despite playing it before has been Insurgency Sandstorm (instant soiled pants, it's great), as well as Mario Odyssey (pretty much 3D Mario perfected.)
On my shopping list is indeed HL Alyx and Boneworks, the remake of The World Ends With You, Subnautica, Hades, etc. There's a whole lot more, I don't really play new games, I'm too busy playing these!

Based on your taste in games, I can highly recommend Enderal. In short, it's a total conversion for Skyrim made by a small mod team in Germany-- but don't let that description deter you. They've created a completely new universe with its own lore, history and characters. Although only made by a small dedicated group, it has easily the best writing in any game I've ever played and has a far more powerful and compelling story than I've ever seen produced by even a large professional studio. I can easily sink 80 hours into a single playthrough. It's a solidly crafted game thanks to the steam release and frequent updates, and if the opinions you share through UA-cam are any indicator, you'll love it as much as I do.

Cyberpunk is 100% my favorite game of the year. I've had about 2 reset-causing bugs and maybe 20 minor bugs.(though some of those bugs happen multiple times.) I completely disagree with the characters being so shallow it's a negative, I found that my favorite times in the game was doing side quests with those side characters. My biggest issue is the crafting, looting, and upgrade systems. Especially crafting, I crafted like 3 things just to try but I always had plenty of consumables and always had a better weapon than I could craft. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.

Cyberpunk was an awesome experience for me. I was able to boost my pistol skills and use them right to the end of the game. I was also able to power up stealth and supplemented it with quickhacks to make a "stealth archer" with pistols. As I progressed and invested in the mantis blades I buffed my stamina and bought leg implantants to jump higher and started sneaking on top of containers and rooftops to leap down on the enemies. These are just 2 specialisations I went through in one playthrough. What I'm trying to say is that the possibilities were vast for me but at first it took around 10h for me to understand how the skill tree interacts with different implants and quickhacks and to use them efficiently in combat. But when I got my head around this it was very doable to buff your char in different ways. I started scouting different ripperdocs and doing every Sidequest on the way to earn money and gain materials for implants and upgrades. However the game was a bit short as I finished it 100% in 65h and was not able to explore every type of gameplay you can achieve yet.

The iron mod creates a constant tension, while the "easy" difficulty setting makes the game a bit more manageable.
I would highly recommend it to people like me who finished the first XCOM in normal mod/difficulty (while abusing the quick save/load options :) )
The iron mod completely changes the experience in a way that fits the theme perfectly:

For the best experience you have to ignore all the convoluted gameplay systems, put the difficulty on easy, and take a quest-oriented approach, as the strength of this game lies in the writing and characters. By always making a beeline for the next quest, your experience improves massively.

When you were talking about AOE I was just thinking how I wish my friends were more like yours. They seem to hate the idea of playing a new game or a story-driven game. There's S O M A N Y good games out there that they'll never try because they're ignorantly stuck on playing online games like Call of Duty or League of Legends, or just sticking to what they're familiar with. Yes they game every day, but it honestly makes me hesitant to even call them gamers.
After I beat the campaign for CoD Cold War, I asked them if they gave it a shot... Un-surprisingly they said no, despite having a hundred hours logged in it and LOVING the earlier games campaigns like CoD 4 or Black Ops 1. It's that mentality that honestly pisses me off so much I can't even explain it. Like what died inside of you? I wish I had friends that actually are exited to try story-driven games and talk about it, or even just try a new game with me, like AOE2. But I know if I ask them to give it a shot they'll seem un-interested in some way for no good reason other than not wanting to try something new.
PSA: Online games are really fun, but story driven or offline games are even better. And all it takes is a leap of faith to dive into them and get immersed in the world they offer. Don't be afraid to try something new!!

I liked the story, so much so that for a moment it hided the downsides, that is because I played it as a linear game after ACT 1. Then again, the bad side is that it's a complete lie, No Man's Sky all over again, and the worst part is that it came from CDPR, of all the companies, they were one of the few and last you'd expect to push out a Ubisoft copycat product with more than half the promised features gutted.

Yeah, I‘ really not getting (all) the hate. Disapointment yes, it is buggy AF after all and I wouldn’t call ot an RPG ether. But almost all points like „pistols are underused“ are an issue of patches and balancing (which needs improvement) or not getting into the mechanics/story deep enough. I’ve seen praise games that are worse offenders in these aspects.
Overall the world is really enjoyable and relatable. Not top notch, but if you are moderatetly interessted in cyberpunk/future scenarios you can get into it really well. I put many hours into it. I found almost no boring main- or side-task (like typical kill mission turns into redemption of a believer) as well as many, funny references to e.g. Portal or Death Stranding. While more could have been done, lots of stuff is done really well too. The bugs are annoying at times, but the mechanics are amazing (altough not perfect) if you get into it properly. At least my char-build is amazing to play.
OFC this means not beeing overhyped by marketing and gaming „journalism“ in the first place, but in 2020 it‘s well beyond the point to realize, these are not good sources. And people need to realize, it is not as polished as the witcher 3. The game would have needed 1-2 more years of development and less cut content. It is a rough diamond. But it is still enjoable and with CDRed, I have no doubt about future improvements.
Is it as good as Alyx? Never! Is it horrible like people say? Nope. Also people need to realize that at the moment, often the worst things are cherry picked. Not the amazing parts. So it is very one sided - I’d say phillip is guilty of it with this video. I recommend watching a let‘s play. This greatly helps to understand the game. Just watch the last mission of the prolog if you don’t mind spoilers. It was sooo good (and sad). And if you are at it, watch the direct follow up mission with mama welles too (if you made the right decisions), it is non-gunblazing but still amazing
