There are lots of lessons and tutorials out there... this is the only one that definitively teaches you how to approach this Colter Wall song, The Devil Wears A Suit And Tie. Here, you'll learn the The Devil Wears A Suit And Tie chords and movements. This The Devil Wears A Suit And Tie guitar lesson and tutorial correctly shows how to execute the song in proper tuning, while teaching rhythm consistent and sensible to how Colter Wall plays.
Guitar lessons in person are expensive, this is free. Other guitar tutorials on youtube can be risky for your playing habits, because you may be taught faulty mechanics and spend time practicing incorrect short cut versions of a song. This video wont do that to you.
This was a long term guitar goal of mine. This tutorial helped me learn it in one sitting. Being able to play and being able to teach are not one and the same, however, you've got both. Great video, keep it up.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback Kyle! I’m really glad the lesson helped you figure this song out!
@@TimGuitarLessons Hey Tim, I was just wonderin, what is the name of the guitar you’re using in this video? Thanks again for the great work.
Dude this song is like my Holy Grail. It’s a little beyond me for now but hot damn this is a great, thorough lesson
Thanks Ben!
How'd you go?
This should have way more likes and comments than it does. Great tutorial and spot on technique and sound.
Thanks so much Mark!
I stopped playing for years, and was never disciplined about practice...or finishing anything...and now I'm a mom of a special needs kid and I've picked my guitar back up. This tutorial has been my refuge and medicine for the last week---and I'm getting the hang of the song (bonus!). Thank you for a great lesson!!
I'm glad that the lesson has helped you out! Thanks for letting me know!
1 year ago ago this song was a distant dream/goal. Now with 1 extra year of practice and most importantly, 17 excellent minutes of a lesson, I'm able to jam along. Thanks a lot man, this was seriously an amazing explanation and rendition :)
I’m so glad that the lesson helped, congrats on getting it under your fingers!
this is majorly underrated
I appreciate the kind words Caden!
I agree
Even as a beginner self taught guitar player, 1 hour with this tutorial and I feel pretty comfortable with the song, impressive work my man!
Glad it helped, thanks for letting me know!
Took me about a month from buying my guitar to being able to play all the riffs in this song at about 3/4 speed. Thank you so much, this song was the reason I wanted to learn, now I feel like I can take on anything!
I’m so glad that it helped you out Seth! Thanks for letting me know!
Looking for Colter Wall and Tyler Childers lessons got me here but you have such great taste and easy to follow instructions. Thank you for sharing your talents!
I have not watched a lesson yet that was not note for note spot on exactly perfect. Very well done...thanks so much. Waterloo sounds excellent by the way.
I really appreciate you. One of the best tutorials i've seen.
Thanks for the content man! Your teaching the songs i wanna learn! Please keep it up with the finger pick country vibe!
10/10 Tutorial my man! thank you for your guitar hero service🙏
Another stellar lesson sir. Seems like any song I'm trying to figure out you've already got a lesson on it. Love what you do, and thank you so much for putting so much positivity into the world!
Thanks so much for the positive feedback Jody!
Been trying to broaden my playing and I'm starting with Colter Wall's style and your channel has been an amazing help! Thanks!!
I’m glad it’s been helping you!
Same here, my good friend sent me a video of Colter playing this song a few months ago, I have been in a delta blues/country/blue grass rabbit hole ever since.. enjoying every minute of the process
Same here I've played guitar for 10 years but never got into finger picking until a few weeks ago when I discovered Colter wall. I've really fell in love with that style and I love the control you have especially of the dynamics.
Awesome man, I love this song and I was having trouble figuring out the changes. I like the way you broke it down. Thanks man.
Glad I could help! Thanks for the comment Rob!
Thanks man. It’s people like you that should rule earth.

Thank you so much!
Man this sounds amazing! I learned it super fast cause of how you broke it down, probably better than any other turorial ive seen so far. You should keep making these! ❤
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Hi Tim, I just recently picked up the guitar after barley touching it fir 20 years. I used to play electric, (heavy metal) now that I'm a bit older, and settled down with a family my taste in music has become much milder. I have never finger picked before, and I am slowly learning with your tutorial if the devil wears a suit and tie. I absolutely love your style, and tutorials. I watched you fishing video, and stocking stuffer videos last night, and you seem like a pretty good guy. I was hoping you might post a tutorial of a pretty great guitarist named Shakey Graves, and the song I would like to learn is called Late July. Regardless I will continue to enjoy your tutorials, as I progress. Thanks again Tim.
Bobby
Exactly the same here my friend.. picked the electric guitar back up after nearly 15 years, hammering heavy metal and even hard rock just wasn't as enjoyable.. a good friend sent me a video of colter playing black top, then that lead to discovering tyler and Billy strings. I've been in a rabbit hole of country/delta/bluegrass ever since. Loving every minute of the process too.. glad you decided to pick the guitar back up! Also forgot how much it hurt to build up thoughs finger tips to concrete.. 🧐
Great tutorial! Your playing sounds great too! The only place that I got stuck was how to play the alternating baseline part on the verse. Can’t really see what you’re doing and it’s not well explained. Thanks so much for posting this!
hey Tim, I'm new to the channel and a little young but this tutorial has helped me start playing guitar and is one of the first songs I've started learning thanks for help!
I'm glad it helps! Thanks for the comment!
Dude, you nailed it. Very well played.
Thanks!
cheers man u just saved me...xD...ty for the tuning part..I just changed my strings the first time and put the guitar in drop D ...slapped on the capo and was wondering why it sounds wrong..XD..(im quite a beginner dispite playing over 2 years)....anyway u just saved me ..its back to normal..xD..ty
I don’t know how to read music and don’t know chord names so visuals like this really help me. I’m like 90% finished learning the whole thing and there’s no way I’d have been able to without this video, so thank you so much! The hardest song I’ve attempted before this was everlong by foo fighters lol so this is quite the jump, but you made it so easy! Definitely really appreciate people like you who do these tutorials.
Also I was able to learn it in like 2 days cause of this tutorial, and I do NOT have a lot of experience so very well done for those who don’t necessarily know what they’re doing
Well I’m certainly glad that you found the lesson helpful, thanks for letting me know!
beautiful tutorial! great and precise explanation
Thanks!
Brilliant tutorial thank you!

Glad I could help!
You are such a great teacher! Do you think you could do a video on Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi? Iv tried finding a good video lessons, but I find myself coming back to your videos cause they make so much more sense.
thanks for this man, incredible!
Glad you found it helpful Erica!
Amazing video and amazing gentleman, love the video
Thanks Kaden!
Watched this like 8 times. Really appreciate it.
Thanks for the feedback Brandon!
Hey Tim!! Great video! Instead of saying “it’s like buying a coffee” you could say “it’s like throwing some spare change in my guitar case” 😎
So talented. Execution is spot on. You’re gifted sir and thank you for the tutorial
Thank you kindly!
great Job TIm ! thank you
Thanks again Justin!
Great tutorial, spend the last 1.5 learning and playing the 'easy' version by some other tutorials and tabs and always found something missing. Unfortunately it's difficult to unlearn so much practice hours but this really help, thanks!
Thanks for the comment!
I'm sure you get this a lot but, these lessons are so good!! Thank you!!

For some reason I can’t find my other comment but I got your reply, thank you for your help. This was a really helpful tutorial🙏
Again, I’m happy you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!
Thought this would be an easy song to learn since im a fast learner on guitar, saying this a few months later of practice, not nonstop but a lot of practice
Great tuturial!!
Thanks for the comment!
Great job!
Thanks Brian!
Thanks Tim
You’re welcome!
great lesson!
I appreciate the positive feedback Jessica!
You nail it perfectly!!!
Thanks!
Hey I really appreciate the video. Accept you tend to explain a pattern and then not do what you just explained, or do it a little different and it’s confusing. Thanks.
Great lesson
Thanks!
this is my goal of what to play
Greatly appreciated!
Thanks Taylor!
Hey Tim! Great tutorial however Im having a hard time breaking down the b7 picking pattern. Not sure if I missed it in the video but something seems off. Thank you!
Im so thankful for this video but i have one annoying problem i have a bad habbit of biting my nails so i have to play with my fingers and it just isnt the same
damn dude! you are awesome!!!!
You’re an amazing teacher,Tim. Thank you!
At the 11 minute mark when you describe the b7, is there a plucking pattern to this chord before you go back to E and finish with the last riff of the intro? At the 9.45 mark you play it pretty slow but I can’t tell what’s happening with the b7 plucking wise.
Love your videos. Can you explain what you're doing between the e minor and b 7 right before the walk down? I've watched it many times but I can't seem to pin point what you're doing.
Very helpful!
Happy to hear it!
What are you doing with your right hand near the end of the intro when you switch from A to Em then B7?
Aside from that part which I am having trouble with, your tutorial has helped me a lot thank you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. 😭🙌🏽
You're so welome Kayla! Thanks for the comment!
You deserve like more then what subs you have man
Thanks!
Great video , did you ever tab this out?
Tim I love u
this is my goal rn
your a god thank you so much awesome job
Thanks Tyler!
Doesnt matter who plays it. Gets me every damn time
Thanks for the comment!
😍 nice bro
Thanks Eduardo!
Thankyou
Sure thing man
Man I’ve had such a hard time with the c chord cause you breezed over it like we already knew what we were doing, it had my picking messed up for 3 days!!! I finally slowed it way down while you were playing it and figured it out
Because a video like this is for someone who already knows how to play basic chords, if you don’t even know the simplest of chord shapes you have no business whatsoever trying to learn this song and I don’t mean that in a rude way I’m telling you for your own good , that’s what causes people to quit playing cause they get to frustrated because they try to get to advanced to fast
@@RGZ223 I’ve been play for 8 years, I know what a c chord is. I just had the picking order wrong for it
Im also struggling with this part a bit, any chance u could break down the walk back down to g part for me, thanks
Love your own twist on some of those hammer ons and pull offs in the intro. Fuckin killer🤘
Thanks so much!
Not only do you have the best teaching vids but you also listen to outstanding music. Many thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for the positive comment!
Ohhhhhh yeaaahhh brother!
Oh yeah Brett!
Hey whats the picking pattern you do for the B7 chord @11:30
This guy rocks
Thanks for the comment Alec!
Nice Waterloo!
Thanks Jim! It’s a fun little guitar!
Does anyone know how to do the transition between the chorus to the next verse?
This tutorial is awesome, but I am confused at 10:00 where you say Em, A, Em....but never hit any of the strings fingered in the Em. Is there a reason to finger the Em at all vs leaving everything open?
It’s good to fret the chord correctly for purposes of habit, and also in case your picking hand gets a little loose and you hit more of the strings, you want for the notes to be “good ones” that can fill the space rather than those random open strings
Tim is so fucking good
also, that parlor of yours sounds really good. So much articulation in the notes. What guitar is that?
Thanks so much Rob! This is a Waterloo WL14X made by Collings
@@TimGuitarLessons lol no wonder it sounds good
1. to start learning finger picking with this song has been ruthless.
2. thank you for the tutorial, bc tablature was a no go for me on this one.
I’m glad the lesson helped!
Whats the fingerpicking in the b7 part, you skippes that part.
Was so lost on the c chord until I realized play the e string in between haha
👍
Call me crazy, and maybe he plays it differently in different recordings but in the "brewey sessions" recording he doesnt hammer on to the 3rd fret on the 2nd string he just frets it at the 3rd fret with no hammer on. Your playing is great by the way and nothing wrong with mixing it up but i dont think that is correct.
this is the first song im learning on the guitar
its hard but i think im doing ok
It’s definitely a difficult song! I’m glad it’s going well for you Aidan!
