I've been playing it and it's wonderful how it's a fairly chill fishing game but at the exact same time, there are all these Eldritch undertones and spookyness.
@@NomadicPhoton It reminds me of Sunless Seas a lot, in atmosphere that is. And Fallen London which is in the same world as Sunless Seas. Even Cultist Simulator has a very similar vibe, all three of those are different games with the first one being the closest to this one since you're navigating monster filled seas in a ship. Though Cultist Simulator is the closest in atmosphere I think, at least at the start, you're just doing a regular old job and nothing weird is going on, until it does.
Gab I love your videos! Just for a tip, the fish will go stale if you keep them in your inventory overnight, so they sell for less. That's why the sharks sold for way less, because you didn't sell them before going to bed. Can't wait for more Dredge!
It's not necessarily going to bed that does it, it's a certain number of hours, I believe. Also the storage is magical, you can drop fish off to storage at any location and pick them back up at any other location, really really useful to get a bunch of large fish. And looking at the dry dock, your boat doesn't seem to get all that much bigger, I think I only saw 14 additional cargo spots available so utilizing storage is a must if you want to be efficient.

Some tips: you got the achievemnt "careless" because you keep fishing spots until they are depleted. The first book you got told you that if you fish to depleted fewer fish will pop up in that spot in the future. You are being "careless" because you aren't trying to keep the fish stable
I think the difference between fishing only to Low vs fully fishing is so insignificant (the fish you lose by not fishing until depletion vs the speed at which they recover), it doesn't matter later anyway. Especially once you start to fish in other regions.
1. i don't think it impacts the recover rate or it's very minor difference 2. it doesn't matter, won't stick around in an area for that long 3. the book's effect is "10% chance to not reduce fish stocks when fishing" 4. congrats on misleading +450 people

I think that this game is so adorably terrifying. Day time it's a cute fishing sim, but even when sunny, it's kinda gloomy. At night, things are out to get you and you hallucinate, seeing things not there, things luring you to doom, and even hearing mysterious whispers in the fog. 100% buying this on next pay day.

IMPORTANT TIP: if you encounter a robed/cloaked person on an island DO NOT interact with them because it will start a TIMED QUEST which requires you to catch multiple fish you can only unlock in late game. The quest will terminate if you don’t finish it in time

@em-rw6nr it does not come back in rotation. You will fail the quest and be unable to retry until you start a new game. It's worth being prepared ahead of time before you start it as you gain rewards you can't get anywhere else in the game
Gab's playthrough inspired me to buy and play the game! My hints: Go to the builder's island and have a good look around. Including the other nearby islands from afar. Use the Telescope to find fishing spots. It will tell you the type of spot and what fish are there. You can comfortably fish at night if you stay in the shallows between the centre islands and upgrade to very bright lights. Visit the trinkets buyer again, he might have a gift. My profit strategy: - Investment in better crab pots - Pots close to the starting port - Alternating between catching fish and clearing the pots - Don't deplete fishing spots. Stop when the quantity hits low, as best as possible. Visit different fish spots on different days. If your sanity gets low for too long, crows can steal your catch during the day, infections might damage your catch, and red waterspouts could hunt your boat.
Gab got so lucky with the the giant fish in the cliffs. Every single time I went into the cliffs, dude came for my face. He even followed me all the way to the travelers dock. Took me forever to get the items. Aggressive effer! And my engines were further upgraded than hers!
I noted that the time doesn't move at all when you're completely still, and when you're fishing the time goes way faster, so "hurrying" doesn't really help because the same amount of time goes by anyway, the time also doesn't move while talking to people. Only during moving your boat, fishing and things like repairing your boat takes time, so if you don't have more that an hour before dark, skip the fishing because it takes extra time off the day.
First off, I'm OBSESSED. second, you got the careless fishing achievement because you're fishing areas until they're empty instead of leaving some fish to sustain the population!
Knowing the ending now, everything with "the collector" makes so much more sense now! When you go to see "him" at the mansion, it's not a doorway he's standing in. Can't believe I didn't realize it first watch thru😅

Oh~ Didn't expect to see this game again so soon. Admittedly, I'm not that up to date with indie games currently in production, but this is one I was looking forward to, the ocean and creepy/weird happening just go too well together, and somewhat mundane games with creepy tones are also great. I'll looking forward for future episodes.

Boat or "bust out another thousand" xD This game is so chill, the music, the small little sound effects that accompany interactions with the UI and townsfolk, it's all so nice. I didn't think I'd be so on edge when those lovecraftian encounters popped up.
Was so excited for this game that I've already finished it 😅 so here are some tips! 1) the four "hooded figure" quests are timed! You only have so long to do them before they disappear forever, so I recommend exploring all the areas before talking to any of the hooded figures. 2) There's no real detriment to being out at night other than the red fog. But you can avoid them by turning off your lights and moving past without them damaging your sanity.
Normally, I watch play throughs for their own entertainment - but Gab is the only one where I've bought games after watching them play; Stardew Valley - and now Dredge! Thank you! ☺
I saw this was on steam and I remembered when you played the demo and hoped you’d pick up the full game! It’s so soothing and also eerie. I love a subtle unsettling horror game and you always make them feel cozy. :)
Currently rewatching (well, listening) to this play through as I’m late night cleaning and there are so many easter eggs I didn’t even realize!! Things clicked into place so hard this time around that I didn’t think twice about before.

Very happy the brothers could reconcile and be reunited. I got scared when he was like, "Oh yeah, I'll be here to finish my emotional arc when you get back," because most games use that time to kill a character for emotional shock value. Relieved that didn't happen here lol

Yeah, insym and a few other people in his comments on his playthrough of dredge, mentioned a game called *sunless seas* . Apparently its like this game, but different. I don't think you actually control the boat from what's been said but that's all ik, I've yet to watch a playthrough and possibly buy it.
Really loving watching this again after catching some of the live stream and watching the VOD. The perfect game for Evelyn, cozy horror. A tip, many docking locations have a storage spot and they are all linked, so you can drop off fish at one spot and pick them up in another. Super useful for catching big fish. I noticed you wondering where all the time went on multiple occasions after fishing or dredging. Time is paused when you aren't doing anything and only progresses when you turn or move the boat OR continually during the fishing game. The fishing speed you have affects how fast time goes by during the fishing minigame, that's why successfully doing the game as quickly and accurately as possible will cause it to eat the least amount of the day. Pretty ingenious if you ask me, allows you to not feel super rushed, I like to just sit there and use my spyglass to scope out debris or fish spots...this is especially important between 6 and 8 pm before the sky gets too dark and there's too much fog, you can scope out night fish from a distance, the range on the spyglass is quite long too.
If sauron was a fisherman THE LORD OF THE SEA 2:07:46 I knew it was coming, you can't avoid it. Doesn't attach if you outside of the island 2:13:20 you must BE CRAZY to get a reaction
This game reminds me a lot of the novel Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo (yes, the Les Mis guy). It's a book about the island of Guernsey (right by Jersey) where Hugo lived in exile because he was too woke. But where his other books are like 50% tangents and 50% plot, this one is 90% tangents. It's amazing, I love it to bits. It also has a really sweet ending of it's romantic subplot for something written by a dude in the 19th century.
I love how much foreshadowing there is. The trader almost recognizing you, and the wife keeping the keychain causing "bad luck to follow the vessel" are the main things I've seen so far
I can see myself playing a dangerous amount of this game... The best part of games is always the fishing-except for when it's the focus- and this game right here has changed my mind.

I loved this video. I can't wait to play this game also a tip for you: I dont know if they will ever get this fixed but as long as an engine is on 1 single engine slot tile it will still work. And the propellers dont have to be facing the back of your ship for them to work. So in actuality when you reached Ingfell and the dusty pontoon locations you actually had enough space for 5 engines so your ship could have been FLYIN on through the waters. Sean actually figured this out when he started playing by purchasing 3 engines right at the start of the game and they still worked and sped up his ship. The same goes for rods as well. You can place them sideways and as long as 1 tile of the rod is on 1 single rod tile space it will still work so again at the start of the game you had enough space for 4 rods

This game is so cool. It has me thinking about the 9 o'clock gun in Vancouver. It's a 200 year old cannon that's been in Vancouver for the last 130 years. It used to fire at 6pm to signal to fisherman that they were no longer allowed to fish. Nowadays it fires at 9pm to help set ship chronometers.
I’m playing this game now too - and you can mix and match gear according to your nears. So the Sinew Spindle can mix with a larger rod slot if you want. Same with the engines - 1 slot, 1 slot, 2 slot - that way if your hull gets damaged, you still have 2 other engines to rely on
So I've just realized I have a new Favorite genre: Relaxing horror. Death Stranding, Sons of the Forest, and now Dredge are all top games in my book and all are super relaxing when the horror elements aren't "Happening."
I've just gotten my copy on the switch and I'm loving it so much!!! It's so cozy but also slightly unsettling and I'm finding it hard to put it down! So excited to see more of your gameplay gab!
11:30 Typically on a fishing boat like the one in the game, a rod or two will be specially mounted on the side. This has the advantage of utilizing the weight of the boat in catching the fish and reducing the risk of the rod slipping out of a fisherman's hands and into the sea. A heavier fish like a marlin could cause that. Also apparently the Eye of Sauron presides over the town. The Dark Lord wants you to catch fish worthy of Mordor 15:23 😊

I really like the atmospheric writing in this game. A dredging spot is not just a dredging spot, no, it's "Shapes in the Deep." So ominous.

The spyglass is really helpful, especially early game or when you're looking for specific fish.

Here’s a piece of good news for you to cheer you up: just last week they found a huge, beautiful and completely intact coral reef previously undiscovered by scientists, it was found in one of the marine preservation zones in the Galápagos Islands. Even with all the garbage news going on right now, it shows the world is adapting and there’s still hope for the future ❤

Oh~ Didn't expect to see this game again so soon. Admittedly, I'm not that up to date with indie games currently in production, but this is one I was looking forward to, the ocean and creepy/weird happening just go too well together, and somewhat mundane games with creepy tones are also great. I'll looking forward for future episodes.

This game is so chill, the music, the small little sound effects that accompany interactions with the UI and townsfolk, it's all so nice. I didn't think I'd be so on edge when those lovecraftian encounters popped up.
Was so excited for this game that I've already finished it 😅 so here are some tips!
1) the four "hooded figure" quests are timed! You only have so long to do them before they disappear forever, so I recommend exploring all the areas before talking to any of the hooded figures.
2) There's no real detriment to being out at night other than the red fog. But you can avoid them by turning off your lights and moving past without them damaging your sanity.
Normally, I watch play throughs for their own entertainment - but Gab is the only one where I've bought games after watching them play; Stardew Valley - and now Dredge! Thank you! ☺
I could watch Gab just fish her fish and upgrade her cute little boat and help islanders and collect debris for hours and hours and never get bored
I saw this was on steam and I remembered when you played the demo and hoped you’d pick up the full game! It’s so soothing and also eerie. I love a subtle unsettling horror game and you always make them feel cozy. :)
Currently rewatching (well, listening) to this play through as I’m late night cleaning and there are so many easter eggs I didn’t even realize!! Things clicked into place so hard this time around that I didn’t think twice about before.

Very happy the brothers could reconcile and be reunited. I got scared when he was like, "Oh yeah, I'll be here to finish my emotional arc when you get back," because most games use that time to kill a character for emotional shock value. Relieved that didn't happen here lol

Yeah, insym and a few other people in his comments on his playthrough of dredge, mentioned a game called *sunless seas* . Apparently its like this game, but different. I don't think you actually control the boat from what's been said but that's all ik, I've yet to watch a playthrough and possibly buy it.

A tip, many docking locations have a storage spot and they are all linked, so you can drop off fish at one spot and pick them up in another. Super useful for catching big fish.
I noticed you wondering where all the time went on multiple occasions after fishing or dredging. Time is paused when you aren't doing anything and only progresses when you turn or move the boat OR continually during the fishing game. The fishing speed you have affects how fast time goes by during the fishing minigame, that's why successfully doing the game as quickly and accurately as possible will cause it to eat the least amount of the day. Pretty ingenious if you ask me, allows you to not feel super rushed, I like to just sit there and use my spyglass to scope out debris or fish spots...this is especially important between 6 and 8 pm before the sky gets too dark and there's too much fog, you can scope out night fish from a distance, the range on the spyglass is quite long too.
There's something very soothing listening to your voice and the sound effects from the game. Thank you for such a long video

This game reminds me a lot of the novel Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo (yes, the Les Mis guy). It's a book about the island of Guernsey (right by Jersey) where Hugo lived in exile because he was too woke. But where his other books are like 50% tangents and 50% plot, this one is 90% tangents. It's amazing, I love it to bits. It also has a really sweet ending of it's romantic subplot for something written by a dude in the 19th century.
At 33:40 when the lights flicker out, there is an extra rock in the bay... That's freaky, rocks really do appear out of nowhere.
I love how much foreshadowing there is. The trader almost recognizing you, and the wife keeping the keychain causing "bad luck to follow the vessel" are the main things I've seen so far
I can see myself playing a dangerous amount of this game...
The best part of games is always the fishing-except for when it's the focus- and this game right here has changed my mind.

I dont know if they will ever get this fixed but as long as an engine is on 1 single engine slot tile it will still work. And the propellers dont have to be facing the back of your ship for them to work. So in actuality when you reached Ingfell and the dusty pontoon locations you actually had enough space for 5 engines so your ship could have been FLYIN on through the waters. Sean actually figured this out when he started playing by purchasing 3 engines right at the start of the game and they still worked and sped up his ship. The same goes for rods as well. You can place them sideways and as long as 1 tile of the rod is on 1 single rod tile space it will still work so again at the start of the game you had enough space for 4 rods

This game is so cool. It has me thinking about the 9 o'clock gun in Vancouver. It's a 200 year old cannon that's been in Vancouver for the last 130 years. It used to fire at 6pm to signal to fisherman that they were no longer allowed to fish. Nowadays it fires at 9pm to help set ship chronometers.
I love games where there a literal new horizon and every time you venture out there new experiences, or new fish. Also, upgrades!

I’m playing this game now too - and you can mix and match gear according to your nears. So the Sinew Spindle can mix with a larger rod slot if you want.
Same with the engines - 1 slot, 1 slot, 2 slot - that way if your hull gets damaged, you still have 2 other engines to rely on
So I've just realized I have a new Favorite genre: Relaxing horror. Death Stranding, Sons of the Forest, and now Dredge are all top games in my book and all are super relaxing when the horror elements aren't "Happening."

11:30 Typically on a fishing boat like the one in the game, a rod or two will be specially mounted on the side. This has the advantage of utilizing the weight of the boat in catching the fish and reducing the risk of the rod slipping out of a fisherman's hands and into the sea. A heavier fish like a marlin could cause that.
