    A subaru xt-6 was the last vehicle my grandma had until she passed away, all the way from 88 to 2013. She never had any problems with the vehicle, only basic maintenance and upkeep, never saw a Wisconsin winter in it's whole life I was told. So many memories in that thing. Being cramed in the back seats, fighting with siblings to get the front seat. Learning to drive manual with it and taking it to high school. I literally regret every day having my family sell it. It wasn't the fasest thing by any means, but it was sure fun feeling like you were going fast, when you were only going 55.

    "AT oil temp" means automatic transmission oil temp. It's not a light that normally exists in most cars.

      I guess it makes sense to place the warning on the transmission, when you look over and operate it. Your comment has added context :)

    I had the SVX. Loved it. The XT6 was so inexpensive it scared me off when they were in the used car market in the 80's. I loved that Prelude like styling. I wish i would've given it a chance. Exhaust clipping would be cool too.

    After all these years, I can still remember the TV commercial;
    Old dad: "I thought we agreed you were going to buy a Subaru?"
    Son, taking off his cool--looking shades: "But dad, I did".

    I think the at oil temp sign was down by the transmission shifter area because it referred to the automatic transmission oil temp, which is separate from the engine oil temp. Not 100 percent sure of that but thats kind of the subaru way

    A friend bought one of these after owning other mainstream Subarus for years. It was her way of splurging on a fun car after denying herself any fun driving for many years. I was fortunate enough to be invited to drive her new "sports car" while we were out joyriding. I remember it being a decently powerful sporty vehicle but I lamented her settling for the automatic transmission. At that time she said an automatic wasn't available and she didn't want to wait for a stick. It was still a very nice sporty car in its time (coming from a Corolla that I had at the time) but I would be bored to death driving it today (now in a tuned Golf R).

    I like the style of the backseat. Even if the space probably isn't great, as you mention. Vehicle styling looks great.

    This exact car & color was my first car in 2000. You forgot to mention the single wiper blade with winter/summer settings & the electric steering pump. It also originally had air suspension that lowered the car at highway speeds creating one of the lowest drag coefficient of the day at .029. Still miss beating the snot out of that car.

    4:37 I saw one where I live and it really got my attention for some reason. I caught a glimpse of the inside and said "this thing is a jet" I feel like these couldn't have been really bad ass with a rally style wide body

    I grew up in Maryland in the 80s and remember seeing a fair number of Subarus. Mainly the wagons, though. The XT was definitely a lot less common.

    This car was a competition of sorts of Honda Prelude back then. Honda was twice car and it sold way better, not to mention it stayed on roads way longer. Still, that Subaru was one cool car.

    I loved the subaru xt series when they came out but they were relatively expensive for that time. Coolest geeky features though. I think you missed the telescopic steering wheel lever inside the right side of the asymmetrical steering wheel, unless that feature ended with the xt turbo. Given the choice id take the 4wd turbo xt with the digital cluster.

  • @Desmaad

    9:27 - From someone old enough to remember the 80s, Subaru wasn't that exotic. They were fairly successful wherever Volvo or Saab was popular (e.g. both coasts, snowy areas, and the mountain areas).

    • @kiraleaf
      @kiraleaf Рік тому

      There were a lot of older Legacy wagons in Canada, and then Foresters and Imprezas. WRX's stayed on the top of Canada's most stolen cars list for a decade in the bugeye era.

      I'm a Yankee from north of the notches in New Hampshire, the Highlands of the northeast kingdom. Volvo was the official car of Vermont or so we said. Subarus were winter cars because of the all/four-wheel-drive. Saab was an early 80s blip, I don't remember seeing so many of those

      @doug6191 7 місяців тому

      @MQN8R If Subaru intended to fight Supra, 300ZX, Starion, or even Prelude with XT, it didn't compare well. If Subaru targeted MR2 or Fiero, it was much closer.

    • @MQN8R
      @MQN8R 7 місяців тому

      @@doug6191 yeah comparatively sure. I mean I’d take on a prelude. But saying it isn’t a sporty drive doesn’t seem correct. I own a sports car, and yet in the hills of Adelaide the XT is awesome. It’s point n shoot and handles great.
