Guys this is a basic conventional wiring diagram that i represented in a simple way, to understand easily. Here Blue wire as well as Red wire is LIVE wire. But i used blue wire, to distinguish master control wire from main LIVE wire
For anyone wondering NO means normally open, whereas there isn't connection if action isn't taken, and NC means normally closed, which means that there is connection until an action is taken.

NO and NC are used whenever you have a switch thats spring loaded in one direction. What he's indicated here is either relays or momentary 2 position switches.

There's no need for him to even connect any wires to NC. Normally for an override on you would connect the master control wires to the common terminal. For override off you'd use the master switches to either interrupt the blue power wire or the control power for the relays.

If you want true two way master switching, you need two two way switches with strappers between the L1/L2 terminals. This method in the video requires both master switches to be off to kill the circuit.

A true master switch would disconnect all power from a circuit with no alternative means of supply that is why it is called a MASTER switch. What you have are override switch.
In our nation we have difference between Master switch and Main switch. Master switch Turn ON all lights which are connected to it, without considering whether any light ON of OFF at that instant. Similarly Turn OFF all light excluding the light which is in ON position. If any light be ON at particular area, no need to turn OFF that. To turn OFF all lights we use Main switch or DP

This type of installation would be against code in the US. Parallel switches are illegal. They are required to be 3 or 4 way with travellers. Installations like this are hazardous.
@@briteJK no. The current may run parallel having the same sum of current split 2 ways, but the load(the LED bulb) will draw the same current regardless of how many wires run to it. The amount of current is dictated by what is attached to the circuit divided by the voltage, not how many wires. For example if the three lights are using 1.0 amps and you were to have 4 override switches wired like shown, the current will be distributed between the parallel runs and all 4 would add up to equal 1.0 amps. If the 4 had different lengths and different wire sizes you may end up with the amperage distributed on each path like this 0.25a,0.20a,0.40,0.15. It would be distributed representative to the different resistances on how each circuit is run.
As an American, we would use two 3-way switches and three 4 way switches. Any location will turn the lights on or off. Good working model that shows what the travelers, switch legs and power legs are doing. We would also have a spliced white neutral (yours is black) in every switch. location.
That's the point, tho. If the 3 way switches are getting their power from the master switches, that empowers the masters to control. If the 3 ways are in NO mode, then they'll be opposite of whatever masters are in.
be a cool way to set up the “code” for a secret room, have to flip certain switches and have others off for the door to unlock and show itself that’d be dope then have it to where the switches automatically reset to all being off after the door is closed > re closing the specific circuit triggering something to do it
The house my father built in 1969. Had two switches that were rotary two per station. You could control just about every light in the house. I still don’t know how they did it… but it was pretty cool. And nobody else had it. I never saw it in anyone else’s house. Also, the rocker switches were different too.

Not at all. It's a split feed loop. The blue wire is carrying the output from the master switches. So in the normally open position, with a master switch on, the power is actually going through the blue wire, across the 2 pole switch through the no terminal, back to the source. Where as with the master switches off, the blue simply acts as a return line. It's stupidly over complicated but it would in fact work.
My scenario is guard posts/security posts in a commercial/military/prison building. You don’t want the convenience of being able to turn the master override off from everywhere, what you want is to be able to force everything on, even if the other guard post is overrun by terrorists or spies or inmates. That’s the kind of scenario where your normal usage is just standard local control - but when shit hits the fan you want to be able to light the place up like a Christmas tree. And having to go around afterwards to all the places and check all of them manually and turn them all off manually is completely an acceptable trade-off.

Problem is, if either master switch is on, the room switches no longer change the output. So if you want to turn one light off, you have to turn off both master switches and run around turning the other lights back on

Just recently had to do something for college about shift Registers and having a right shift based upon a clock input using the debounced switches and an SPDT switch to switch between Two modes on two separate chip to go through parallel and series modes. This is really cool, I've never seen wiring done like this and never thought about wiring some rooms like this. With my kitchen, dining area and living room being one long room but 3 separate light switches, it would be very handy to have them wired to a master switch. If I ever cut open the walls I'm rewiring it like this!
@@KiloFeenix Well, maybe you call the function of a 3 way switch, a 2 way. I can understand that if it's just a different name for the same function. I've heard people ask that it's a 3 way switch, where's the third switch. You can operate it on and off from two locations, so "2 way" seems to be a reasonable name. But there are 3 modes of operation. Off, On from point A and On from point B. So 3 ways. But that's not what the show. I would call what they demonstrate is a master override set up. They use a 2 position, (3 way) switch on each individual light, but the so called master switches are just single pole on-off switches and they confuse the issue with two master switches. I don't see this as the circuit I think we are both referring to. What the masters do is override where the individual switches are set, and turn all the lights on regardless. It seems to me that it's a function with no practical purpose. It doesn't even make sense as an alternate emergency source. There's nothing wrong in how it is wired, but I see no practical purpose to override shutting off and of the individual room lights

You need to have people at floor level to be able to turn lights on and off easily 90% of the time to use the building, but there's that tiny fraction of time they'd really benefit from being locked on (or off, depending).

That said, I think you will find that in most big buildings like a theater or hockey rink, the lights are not going to be operated from individual switches like this. In most cases there will be lighting contactors which operate lights in a group or multiple groups. So they won't be wired as shown here. There could be multiple locations where those contactors and light groups could be controlled from, but the circuits will be completely different. Second, the circuit shown, does not override the lights to an off state. It only overrides to an on state. (The master switches can turn all lights on regardless of the local switch, but it can not turn them all off, unless the local switches are already off.) So I stand by my statement that it is a very odd circuit which has no real practical use. It's not "wrong", in that it does work, but there is no sensible or logical common use for this arrangement. BTW, I should mention that I am completely familiar with large commercial lighting schemes. I am an Electrical Engineer with decades of experience in large industrial and commercial wiring, distribution, control and lighting practices. The arrangement shown here would have to be some unique special purpose and it wouldn't be used in a commercial application, such as you suggest. Second, the idea of feeding lighting from 2 separate sources is contrary to "normal" code practices. It presents a potential electrocution hazard. There are a few similar videos from India and Pakistan that call this "Hostel wiring". Of course in these countries they do many unsafe things and rarely use any kind of code standards. As it turns out, this channel is also from India. I have no clue why they would use this scheme in hostels or hotels. They must do some weird things there. If the individual room lights were off, the master switch could turn them on remotely. I suppose they could flash the master on and off like some kind of signally system, however if the individual lights were already on, you wouldn't notice. Using Google Translate and looking at comments on those channels, I see no mention of using this scheme in theaters or hockey rinks. (Do they even have hockey rinks there?) This kind of scheme could be used only on a small scale, not the kilowatts of lighting power in commercial applications. Through the years, I have met a few Indian Electrical Engineers. They were competent, however practices in their home country are best described as "bizarre". In India, "stealing power", is a pretty common practice. Guys who call themselves "electricians", will climb up a pole and tap into the feeder wires and string it into a home. All completely illegal. It's not uncommon for one of these guys to get killed or badly burned because they really have no idea WTF they are doing. You can find pictures of power poles that look like they have been covered with spaghetti!! In a documentary I saw, it was suggested that as much as 60-70% of generated power is "stolen" by these practices. Bottom line is that what is shown here is some third world wiring scheme. Technically, it does work, but the purpose for it defies logical reason. My advice is to not use the wiring scheme demonstrated here. Nicely done video though.

More like hostile. Wiring a switch that turns all the lights in the building on would not be good for customer retention in a place where people pay to sleep.
This looks like an automatic control situation with override on switches. In this type of scenario you can get away with connecting the switch leg from the master switches to C (common). Although you can do this with single pole switches for the master switches, you should use 3 way switches in series for the 2 master switch locations.

@@dannythorpe1425 according to the diagram on the screen, those two way switches are always getting power to the no terminal and if the master switch is on they are also getting power to the nc terminal. So all the 2way does is switch between 2 terminals that both are live when the master is on. Also the master switches have to both be off for the light to be off in this configuration.

Although it's a good way to show hoy electricity works, in real circuits, you should also use 3 way swithches for the masters aswell. Then you can also turn off your circuit from either master switches

마스터스위치라는 개념을 보면, 2개가 연결됬을때만 작동되어야하는데, 예를들어 1번방만 켜있을때 마스터스위치로 끄도록 설계했어야함. 역으로 1번이 켜있는데 마스터로 on/off 하는것은 계속 1번이 켜있기때문에 비효율적

How can I switch with the master 1 all on, and switch later with master 2 all off? You need to put a bridge in there (3 way switch)

Problem is, if either master switch is on, the room switches no longer change the output. So if you want to turn one light off, you have to turn off both master switches and run around turning the other lights back on

Just recently had to do something for college about shift Registers and having a right shift based upon a clock input using the debounced switches and an SPDT switch to switch between Two modes on two separate chip to go through parallel and series modes.
This is very cool representation of the switches!

This is really cool, I've never seen wiring done like this and never thought about wiring some rooms like this. With my kitchen, dining area and living room being one long room but 3 separate light switches, it would be very handy to have them wired to a master switch. If I ever cut open the walls I'm rewiring it like this!

@@KiloFeenix Well, maybe you call the function of a 3 way switch, a 2 way. I can understand that if it's just a different name for the same function. I've heard people ask that it's a 3 way switch, where's the third switch. You can operate it on and off from two locations, so "2 way" seems to be a reasonable name. But there are 3 modes of operation. Off, On from point A and On from point B. So 3 ways.
But that's not what the show. I would call what they demonstrate is a master override set up. They use a 2 position, (3 way) switch on each individual light, but the so called master switches are just single pole on-off switches and they confuse the issue with two master switches.
I don't see this as the circuit I think we are both referring to. What the masters do is override where the individual switches are set, and turn all the lights on regardless. It seems to me that it's a function with no practical purpose. It doesn't even make sense as an alternate emergency source. There's nothing wrong in how it is wired, but I see no practical purpose to override shutting off and of the individual room lights

You need to have people at floor level to be able to turn lights on and off easily 90% of the time to use the building, but there's that tiny fraction of time they'd really benefit from being locked on (or off, depending).
@@mootinator Well, indeed, I have never worked in a theater or a hockey rink! That said, I think you will find that in most big buildings like a theater or hockey rink, the lights are not going to be operated from individual switches like this.
In most cases there will be lighting contactors which operate lights in a group or multiple groups. So they won't be wired as shown here. There could be multiple locations where those contactors and light groups could be controlled from, but the circuits will be completely different.
Second, the circuit shown, does not override the lights to an off state. It only overrides to an on state. (The master switches can turn all lights on regardless of the local switch, but it can not turn them all off, unless the local switches are already off.)
So I stand by my statement that it is a very odd circuit which has no real practical use. It's not "wrong", in that it does work, but there is no sensible or logical common use for this arrangement. BTW, I should mention that I am completely familiar with large commercial lighting schemes. I am an Electrical Engineer with decades of experience in large industrial and commercial wiring, distribution, control and lighting practices.
The arrangement shown here would have to be some unique special purpose and it wouldn't be used in a commercial application, such as you suggest. Second, the idea of feeding lighting from 2 separate sources is contrary to "normal" code practices. It presents a potential electrocution hazard.
There are a few similar videos from India and Pakistan that call this "Hostel wiring". Of course in these countries they do many unsafe things and rarely use any kind of code standards. As it turns out, this channel is also from India.
I have no clue why they would use this scheme in hostels or hotels. They must do some weird things there. If the individual room lights were off, the master switch could turn them on remotely. I suppose they could flash the master on and off like some kind of signally system, however if the individual lights were already on, you wouldn't notice.
Using Google Translate and looking at comments on those channels, I see no mention of using this scheme in theaters or hockey rinks. (Do they even have hockey rinks there?) This kind of scheme could be used only on a small scale, not the kilowatts of lighting power in commercial applications.
Through the years, I have met a few Indian Electrical Engineers. They were competent, however practices in their home country are best described as "bizarre". In India, "stealing power", is a pretty common practice. Guys who call themselves "electricians", will climb up a pole and tap into the feeder wires and string it into a home. All completely illegal. It's not uncommon for one of these guys to get killed or badly burned because they really have no idea WTF they are doing. You can find pictures of power poles that look like they have been covered with spaghetti!! In a documentary I saw, it was suggested that as much as 60-70% of generated power is "stolen" by these practices.
Bottom line is that what is shown here is some third world wiring scheme. Technically, it does work, but the purpose for it defies logical reason. My advice is to not use the wiring scheme demonstrated here. Nicely done video though.

More like hostile. Wiring a switch that turns all the lights in the building on would not be good for customer retention in a place where people pay to sleep.
This looks like an automatic control situation with override on switches. In this type of scenario you can get away with connecting the switch leg from the master switches to C (common). Although you can do this with single pole switches for the master switches, you should use 3 way switches in series for the 2 master switch locations.
The master switches are more of an on-override switch.

Homes in the UK have this exact wiring, have done for years and years, the switches ALL turn on or off regardless of master switch position.
@@dannythorpe1425 according to the diagram on the screen, those two way switches are always getting power to the no terminal and if the master switch is on they are also getting power to the nc terminal. So all the 2way does is switch between 2 terminals that both are live when the master is on.
Also the master switches have to both be off for the light to be off in this configuration.
