Nile Rodgers wrote this when he realised drag queens love Diana Ross (while he was in a club washroom surrounded by Diana Ross impersonators) and if she were to record a gay anthem, it would be an instant club hit.
And he was right! 💜💜💜
I created a dance to this for a German hair show and us, the models. Naturally , this title was a monster hit at the German gay clubs where we also performed this. Miss you, Peter K!
facts!
Right On! She, Patti Labelle, and other Divas owe so much to the LGBT Community who kept them working when their career took a nosedive. In Atlanta, which is now considered to be The top LGBTQ State for The African American Community, alot of Divas from Cece Peniston, Crystal Waters, Martha Wash and Robin S (Show Me Love) not to be confused with the Swedish Singer do shows each year usually during Summer.
It did become a song gay people performed off of
I am 43. When I was young, like 3 or 4 one of my older cousins (20-ish) was a drag queen and an openly gay black man in a time and place it was dangerous to be. I remember him doing my hair one day when my mom was busy and he put this on the stereo and played this. I made him replay it over and over and we made up dance routines. One of my favorite memories. 😁
Love this story❤️
@@naomiwilcox5748 Thank you. I miss him.
He also taught me how to do age appropriate makeup (the barely there at 12, more as I grew older) and took me shopping for my first date outfit when I was 13. (My mom new he knew the younger styles, but wouldn't let me do anything inappropriate for a girl my age.) Plus he had super good taste... first date outfit? A pleated off-whitel pleated skirt and tights and an off-white mohair sweater and flats. He even got my mom to loan me her pearls.
He passed in the 90s before there was substantive and affordable treatment for AIDS.
@donereally Thank you.
Beautiful memory. I had a few friends who passes after contracting AIDS. So wonderful you have these memories.
@@salamarinita I'm sorry to hear about your friends. It's always hard to see someone you love taken away too soon. And especially when something that could have been taken seriously earlier if public health officials weren't so indifferent to certain communities.
I do feel lucky. He was super close to my heart, if you know what I mean. It felt like it physically broke a little when he passed.
He was one of the most loving people I ever knew. Even though I have many older sisters/brothers, most were away at college or even in grad school by the time I was 5. He didn't have to be involved the way he was. He did it because he wanted to and took time out of his schedule just to be there for me. (I suppose that's all kids want. Someone who wants to be there just because they love you.) He was one of the best influences of my life!
Her tribute to Marvin Gaye" I'm Missing You " is a beautiful tribute to his talent
Great song.
@@kayneedham6992 beautiful song, but makes me cry!!
Yes beautiful tribute to Marvin!
Do Diana Ross- Upside Down .
Favorite rollerskating music. 💜💜💜
🔥🔥🔥
👍
Remember when MJ danced on stage with her to Upside Down?!!!
@@pfr5332 that was badass. Mj looked good too
NOW YALL GOTTA REACT TO “MO MONEY MO PROBLEMS” BY THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. Feat. Ma$e and Puff Daddy which samples this song to perfection.
Classic.
"I'm the D to the A to the D-D-Y
Know you'd rather see me die than to see me fly
I call all the shots
Rip all the spots, rock all the rocks, cop all the drops"
Yes! Love that song!
Yes!!
YESSSSS. I heard that track first well before the Diana ross original. to this day, I always expect Diddy’s voice to come on 😂
If you wanna hear the MOTHER OF ALL HIGH NOTES, be sure to listen to ''Lovin' You'' from Minnie Riperton. You won't believe your ears.
Also Melba Moore Fallin, Shante Moore Shante's got a man and Deniece Williams Gonna Take a Miracle.
I agree. Minnie Riperton was 👍🏻 and her daughter, maya rudolph sang backup on Lovin You.
Yes!! I suggested this one too a long time ago. I guess they haven't seen it. They will surely love it.
😱😱😱😱
Memory lane by Minnie Riperton is even better
Diana Ross is definitely of the G.O.A.T.! She has so many hits with the Supremes and as a solo artist. Beautiful woman!
Amen Stoned Luv yessss
She is amazing. A queen.
Love Diana..I can Motown all day long..
Motown is cool. I can do Sounds Of Philadelphia all day and night long.
Me 2!!🙋🏾♀️
Amen to that!
"Upside Down" was the biggest hit on this album. It was number one for 6 weeks. It's super catchy.
Yea. Gee I forgot about that song. Was great 👍
Fun fact: Mo Money Mo Problems was sampled off of this song.
Oh really?! That’s such a fun fact to know! I love Mo Money Mo Problems and Diana Ross, so it makes sense!😀
@@amberparker91
Sis so you know most of rap is sampled from 70s soul/ funk songs ua-cam.com/video/gUhRKVIjJtw/v-deo.html , how are u holding up during quarantine just sending positive vibes ur way beautiful
Went to a CD exchange party years ago, and a DJ mixed in the original songs with the hip hop samples. Was amazing and blew my mind when I realized that every great 90s hip hop song I loved was sampled from old school funk and motown 😅
"I'm the D to the A to the D-D-Y
Know you'd rather see me die than to see me fly
I call all the shots
Rip all the spots, rock all the rocks, cop all the drops...."
They never heard of Mase 🤣🤣🤣
This song way a gay anthem back in the day. As in "coming out of the closet." It gave a lot of people the courage to be themselves and shine. xo
ua-cam.com/video/MgrD9hhR1z0/v-deo.html✅
Yep. I was one of them from the late 90s. I'm nearly 50 now and this song still makes me get up and dance and reminds me of who and what I am and there ain't no shame in being me.

Oh honey it still is
This was a gay coming out anthem in the early 80’s . Production by the great Nile Rogers. This song was also sampled by Notorious B.I.G. for his song Mo Money, Mo Problems .
Production by the great Nile Rodgers and the great Bernard Edwards!
Man you two guys are so Dope, it’s so good to see the youth enjoying other generations of Great Music! Real Music...
Music doesn't stop, brother! This is a classic banger, tho!
Yess that's what i love about them , they react to everything
She's The Boss
"Baby Love," "Stop! In the Name of Love," great hits from Diana Ross and the Supremes!
Fun Fact Tracee Ellis Ross from Blackish is Diana Ross daughter .. Diana Ross also is on the Soundtrack The Wiz. And Diana Ross did a duet "Endless Love" with Lionel Richie who sang :Hello" yall reacted to him once..
Awesome trombone solo! Thanks for sharing guys!
You Love Diana Ross then You have to listen her girl group the Supremes where she all started Motown like " Where Did our Love Go" Stop in The Name in Love" or " You Can't Hurry Love".
100% agree!!!!!
EXACTLY!!!!
Don't forget "Baby Love" by the Supremes
Or love is like an itching in my heart
Don't forget LOVE CHILD
While we're on Diana Ross, you should take it back further to her Motown SUPREME days! "Stop In The Name of Love" "Can't Hurry Love" and "Come See About Me" are are classics to check out!
Stoned luv still a club banger
Can't Hurry Love even could be a nice double feature with... Phil Collins :)
@@monstermirror2 love it..
They should do "Me & Mrs. Griffin" ... OOHH, I meant Jones, "Me & Mrs. Jones"
@@grippnault 🤣🤣🤣👀
Ms. Ross, forever will be the Queen 👑
Next time you do Diana Ross try "Love Hangover".
Oh yes, you did it man. Love Hangover was my anthem! 👏🏽🎵☀️💯
YASSSSS!! ❤️🥂🍾🍾🍾🤢🥴
Agreed
Just heard it on the radio this morning. 👍🏾
Oh yeah they will love Love Hangover. I was in the 4th grade then and you couldn't help but jam to it.
this album, diana, was written and produced by nile rodgers and bernard edwards of chic. they wrote the whole album with the gay and african american disco audiences in mind. which is why there are songs like "i'm coming out" on it
This song was played at many graduations back then. I remember her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross, said this was played at her graduation too. You must do Tina Turner next.
This is a bop! There's no way you can't dance to this.
Love you guys you are awesome!!!
I am so ecstatic that you two young gentlemen discovered one of my favorite songs by my all time favorite female singing artist Miss Diana Ross.
I see these videos as a set up to one day causing the two of you being the two top music producers in the world!!! The future combination Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis and L.A./Babyface. Bless you both!
One of the best beats and beginning of a song. One of my favorite's from Ms. Ross
Diana Ross was the Beyoncé of her day.
Hahaha, Beyoncé said s definitely the Diana Ross of today! Beyoncé would be the first to tell you that! 😁
@@missbigkim I realize that, I’m just trying to give some of the younger folk a bit of context.
Diana Ross &The Supremes- You keep me Hanging on and Reflections. Also Diana Ross-Upside Down and Missing You
This was a really BIG club disc!!!!!!! It got everyone up!!!!
Diana Ross really is something. Great reaction twins!
Good song. Love Diana Ross.
Loved Diana Ross especially when she was with the Supremes! They had hit after hit and all theit songs were awesome!
Diana Ross the Legendary Queen of Pop!!!
Guys, Diana crossed-over from what others labeled R&B (Motown Sound, Berry Gordy, was a genre of its own!) to Pop. There was no such genre as Pop when she and the Supremes were a group!
@@t.morrison4400 You are Absolutely Correct and...And....there was no such thing as R & B either Black folks called their music, "Soul music" and created the show "Soul Train."
Great choice guys!!!
This was usually the first song she would play in concert once it came out. She would start it off right.
Diana is fab. Now onto Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, La Belle. Oh I can’t wait till you guys listen to any of the above. P.S. This song is huge in the gay community.
Sincerely, K.S.O. just did an old Dionne Warwick live. Check it out.
Ms Patti LaBelle GOAT
Especially Ms. Patti.
Patti Labelle "Music Is My Life"
Dionne Warwick "Promises Promises"
One my all time favorite songs is done by Dionne Warkwick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight, That's What Friends Are For.
Huge Diana Ross fan. One of my favorite songs. She's a legend in the music industry.
This is her entrance song as she go and sometimes run on stage to perform.
Absolutely for no one other than The Boss herself!!!😉🙋🏾♀️
USA for Africa- song We are the World. Beautiful song, written and performed for a fantastic cause. It's worth the time to watch 😃 So much more for you both to discover , keep exploring 💃🏾👍🏾
Definitely the 80s version though, not that travesty they redid for Haiti.
One of my favourites...❤️
A few people suggested listening to some of her songs when she was lead singer of The Supremes. Starting with their second album (released in 1964), they had five consecutive #1 hits! There were between 20-21 years old when they recorded these:
• Where Did Our Love Go
• Baby Love
• Come See about Me
• Back in My Arms Again
• Stop! In the Name of Love
They had 7 more #1 hits, which includes the last song on which Diana Ross sang ("Someday We'll Be Together") before she left the group to go solo.
I just realized that the intro was also edited out on commercial radio, so glad to see you connecting with this hit. Another Nile Rogers gem.
Jazz + pop = disco!
I have no words - I needed this today! thanks for the smiles! :)
React to Diana Ross Love Hangover - is a cut! Congratulations Twins on your way to a million! So good to see you on SNL and the View - much deserved - you both have added some fun to the shelter in. Be well - Be blessed - Continue to make your mother proud! :-)
I grew up on Diana Ross, my father was a fanatic!! I’ve seen her many times with him. My first concert at 7 years old was Diana Ross and he took my daughter to her for her first concert when she was 7! Family tradition! He met her a few times because he went to EVERY NY show she did and her record company sent him a free copy of every album she put out. I think I know every single song she ever recorded by heart. Lady Sings The Blues soundtrack is my favorite album of hers. She sounded AWESOME in that movie and those style songs really suit her voice. Favorite song for me is Good Morning Heartache. Such huge respect and admiration for this incredible woman❤️. My father has passed but every time I ask him for a sign, a Diana Ross song comes on the radio❤️
Another banger 🙌🏽 Love Diana Ross- real diva
This song perfectly captures her clear high notes and unique harmonic sound.
"Upside Down" by Diana Ross is also great - though I really prefer her song "Love Hangover" (but that's because I'm a little bit of a Disco freak).
I see I'm in good company, Disco forever 🤣😄
Let’s get it👊🏾! one of my favorites by Diana Ross
Thanks for listening to Ms. Ross. The instruments are great in this song. 💃🏾💃🏾🎶🎸🥁🎺🎶
Another Banger. Ms Ross is most definitely a GOAT. Great reaction.
Williams Kings!!! This Diana Ross classic busted on the scene at a time when people who'd been unnoticed MADE A STATEMENT! This song is still a strong barrier breaker! Thank you for another great reaction 💖👍🏽
You guys are ADORABLE! Thanks for making me laugh so hard! It's good to see younger generations appreciate music I grew up hearing. Luv from an old grandma🤣🤣🤣🤣
The SUPREME DIVA !!! I loooovvvee this woman !! Her and Whitney Houston were my idols growing up. She doesn't get the credit she deserves, but she opened the door for multi talented female black artists like Whitney and Beyonce' to cross over to mass audiences. Whitney took it to another level, but the BOSS most definitely opened that door.
Definitely a trailblazer.
Diana Ross is Motown royalty! Great pick.
Love this song
💯💯💯😍😍
You guys are handsome and i also love y'all reactions
One of my all time favorite songs!! It’s an instant mood lifter!
This is good disco!
I seen the Boss, 6xs in concert!! Mz.Ross is the real deal!!
Just as a note, this Album was produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of the group "Chic", if you remember their cuts "Good Times" and "Le Freak (Ahhh FREAK OUT)". They were the hottest producers on their label Atlantic Records after their C'est Chic album [1978]. Basically, the Atlantic label told them they could produce a couple of albums, whomever they want.
They chose to produce Sister Sledge and Diana Ross. Diana was trying to make a comeback of sorts as a solo career, even though she did have some solo work before that, but Diana was in need of a new sound, and the Guys from Chic fit the bill. I bought Diana's album in college and it was a great album, a lot of energy and a total different world than Diana's Supreme stuff.
SOLID JAM ALL DAY 🙌🏼
It's impossible to sit still during this epic song! 😁
Hello my 'young Kings'. Next "Love Hangover" You won't be sorry!!
It’s a trombone!
glad you found this song!
This will be our anthem when the corona isolation is over.🕺💃
Have you guys seen The Wiz? A must see!!
Exactly!
YESSSSSS another GOAT..... loved this song
The song was written by Niles Rogers, of the group Chic. Ms Ross was very insecure about the finale mix and took the tapes away from Niles, and had Motown remix the album. This album was a massive hit and allowed her to get the biggest record deal of all time of 20 million dollars ,a record at the time.
The song was written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic.
I saw her for her 75th birthday celebration in February 2020....she opened with this song and it was all that....the band killed it!....Love Miss Ross! ❤️
Y’all will love Diana Ross even more if you listen to the long version of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”!
UPLIFTING EASY LIVING SONG...so smooth....classy lady!❤❤❤🥰
Best song is It’s My Turn. I loved that whole album. Great reaction.
My favorite by her. Touch me in the Morning was also great.
“It’s My Turn” is also one of my favs by Diana.
Diana Ross, Boss Lady herself!! ❤️👌 There are lots of great Artist under Motown Records!! Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye “Stop, Look, Listen to your heart” or Diana Ross & Lionel Richie “Endless Love”
I hooked them up and explained it all in my message about 20 min after yours. My note was:

Love this song. I have seen Diana Ross in concert a few times. She's awesome! 👍😊👏
What a woman. Amazing.
This song was written by 2 members of the group Chic... if you haven't already checked them out, try "Good Times", "Le Freak", "Dance, Dance, Dance" or "Everybody Dance"!
Amazing and iconic. 😩
the full power and glory of The Chic Organization in action! Time for you to check out Chic and their massive bangers "Le Freak", "Everybody Dance", "My Forbidden Lover", "I Want Your Love" and the song that has been sampled by everybody "Good Times". They were also behind the Sister Sledge smashes "We Are Family" and "He's The Greatest Dancer" which was used for the Will Smith song "Miami". Also "Upside Down" by Diana Ross. Seriously 100% bangers !
I'm a 47 year old straight white male and Dianna Ross has been a guilty pleasure of mine for decades... how can you not be happy to this MUSIC! She was amazing.
Was feeling down today because of pandemic and lacking motivation. Watched this video and felt so much better (this song always gets me moving) and did my workout and chores. Thanks for your energy and continuing to inspire.
I like that "pop jazz" reaction, you both are so cool.I like Diana Ross music.
One of her best songs after the Supremes great dance song.
I love, love, LOVE that you two young people are taking the time and genuine interest to listen to the "oldies but goodies"...you make me laugh every time I watch you (something I need while currently going thru personal tragedy and health issues)...so thank YOU and God bless!
You guys should have your own radio show😎
This is a great song, Upside down is another favorite.
Oleta Adams, "Get Here" and Deborah Cox, "How Did You Get Here" for the next Women Wednesday. Won't disappoint!
Huge hit!! This one was one of my top 5 favorite songs growing up back when it first came out. Diana was an inspiration during my youth when I was developing my voice as a singer! Definitely a GOAT!! ❤️
I grew up in that era..Diana was a classy gal....good tunes!
The original Boss Diva Ms. ROSS
This was a hot beat when it was released.
Listen to Peabo Bryson- tonight I celebrate my love or if ever you're in my arms again
Ms. Peggy, Peabo comes from the era of real music. Peabo is one of the greats!
😊😊😊💖💖💖
Love love love that song!
My favorite song by Peabo Bryson is can you stop the rain!! Man!!
👍
That peabo song is like finger nails on the chalkboard to me.
You gotta do Diana Ross “ Love Hangover”, if you liked the vibe of Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight.
One of my favorite songs! I remember this on the jukebox in the cafeteria in high school. We wore that song out!!! Love you guys! Thanks for appreciating some GREAT Music !!! You’re showing others your age and I love it!! 😘❤️❤️❤️
I was in high school in 1981 in this phone was hot on the pop charts I remember the cheerleaders use to come out dancing to the song
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes coming yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes ...thank you !!!
Thank you for this memory, and allowing a newer generation to know one of the songs that helped us elder gay men feel safe, loved and comfortable at a time when we often weren’t. ♥️
Yay! One of my favs by her. Glad they are back! Go boys! Love to see y'all feeling it!
Iconic song! I was in college when this was released. And it was life changing for many!
