Hey Scotty, what do you think about the Scion TC?
Hey scotty what's the last year you would buy on the chevy vans?
@@emanuelmoreta5472 Scotty has a video on the Scion. (He did it only recently) He says they're good cars. If they've been well taken well care of not run to death they should be very good cars. But as always have a good mechanic check it out before you buy it for any problems.. spending a hundred or so now to check it out, could save you thousands later! Listen to ol' Scotty! We're already referring to 20 year old cars with "back in the day" lol, that's how bad it's gotten

And car makers.
Pushrod Engine: "I love you long time!" New fancy engine: "I accept credit and debit cards."
3 phase AC induction motor: I will last for an eternity.
I'll keep my pushrod engine. 90% of the reason chevy last so long and mileage doesn't wear em out (with proper maintenance) no timing chains, only 1 cam, simple, compact and good power. There's a reason SBC engines get swapped into all kinds of project vehicles.

The money u pay to keep a old car running might as well finance a modern one
This is so accurate, everyone I know with older model Tahoes have no complaints. They’re built to last.
210k drives like new..everything works.. 12 mpg
You're wrong Johnny. I've got a 15 Silverado with no problems. I work in the automotive field.
I know a guy who has an old one and he drives it everywhere so I imagine it has many miles. He says it constantly has drag like it always feels like he's towing a load, not sure if that's a common issue.
My 2004 Tahoe went 493k miles until one day it bleed out. My guess is the PCV completely clogged resulting in the rear main seal to go.

"You don't need 4wd even in the winter" says the guy that lives in Texas. 😆
Taho no need 4x4 🦧
In the north-central US, 4wd is a must if you want to get around in winter. Maybe FWD is okay if you don't leave Minneapolis-St Paul streets or the interstate. Any place else 4wd will make life better if you keep braking distance in mind.
Some of our best TV entertainment is watching Texas drivers on ice/snow. LOL Its the best comedy show ever.!!
@@LuvBorderCollies it really isnt. Proper snow tires and weight on your vehicle will get just about everyone through anything they encounter with snow.
Regularly have driven through multiple feet of snow.
Problem is in North Texas about half the time when winter precipitation falls it is sleet or frozen rain rather than snow or at least a mixture of sleet and snow. And Texas big cities dont have snow plows or enough ability to salt roadways-at best only major overpasses on major highways-and if you live anywhere besides DFW, Austin, San Antonio or Houston-no road treatment at all. So I would want 4wD on any vehicle I had to get around in on sleet covered roads in winter in North Texas. Just sayin’
The older, rusty Chevy Express Vans at my job seem to be slightly more reliable than the newer Chevy Express Vans.

@Bobby Knuckles well my dad did lol and he left my mom stuck with it, we didn't spend money on transmission but we did a lot for brakes, and steering as well as motor running issues every once in a while. My mom recently sold it and got herself a 2017 Nissan Acura
I bet used Celicas are now much more expensive because of Scotty.
If you can find one.
My dad had a 1986 Celica back in the day that he literally ran into the ground and it just kept on running no matter how much abuse it tookj. It was the 5 speed manual version and I recall it was once low on engine oil, but kept on running and the engine never overheated or blew out. It just took a licking and kept on ticking as we say.

Chevy usually has access to the heater core from the engine bay. Unlike Ford! All their vehicles require a dash removal. I did it once on a 1980 Cougar, never again. I don't get it. I can't go 5 years without rusting out panels, even if it isn't driven much in winter AND gets regular car washes. This is with Ford or Chevy. Never had a Toyota or Honda go rusty on me, or even a Subaru for that matter. I was once driving my low miles 2005 F-250 on my way to a doc appointment and was listening to a show on the radio. It was with some guy who used to work for Ford and he was singing praises of modern American cars (this was back in 2010). One of his comments almost made me lose control as I sprayed coffee. He literally said, "They don't rust!" At the time I was in a 5 yr old low mile F-250 with a bed that had a few rust holes in the bed and some rusting out parts of both rocker panels. I didn't even know about the bed until just a few days prior as I was moving around in the bed moving cargo around. It had a nice thick Rhino lined bed that covered up the rust holes that weren't there when it was applied. But modern American cars DON'T RUST.

Basically, the physics hasn't changed. It takes a certain amount of energy to get it moving and keep it moving. The highway mileage is a bit better possibly due to different gearing, but no vehicle of this heft is ever going to get much better mileage. Rainbow Squash I am playing on Scotty’s checklist when reviewing a vehicle. He likes to check if the air conditioning blows cold air. Now where the joke comes in is that I am acting like the vehicle is perfectly fine as long as the A/C blows cold regardless of the fact that the vehicle is in terrible condition. I can’t fathom that I actually had to explain a joke of this simplicity to a person who said I have “the logic of a shrimp.”🥱
🤣

Some do not get your sarcasm.
There are or have been two class action lawsuits against GM for the A/C system and the transmission in the silverado 1500's. The engine noise is considered piston slap if the noise goes away when the vehicle warms up. If it doesn't go away, possible a leaky valve cover, or worse yet, a bad lifter. This also occurs in a good many of them. Let's not get started on the GDI system which is causing the valves to build up with carbon very quickly. I have one of these rides, tranny is slipping and I've got 131K. Also, I have the tap, tap, tap from the engine bay that doesn't go away when the truck warms up.
I love my 03 Tahoe, it's a reliable beast!
My 2002 4x4 Tahoe just passed the 200,000 mile mark and is going strong. Since around the 100K mark I've done a lot of heavy towing with it and have made very few repairs, drive it four miles on a hilly, bumpy gravel road every trip I take just to get to a paved road. The LS engines (Mine being a 5.3 liter) are very long lasting and dependable. I use it more like a truck than an SUV and it still keeps on ticking. The one PITA repair I had to do last year was changing the brake lines, the originals were mild steel and rusted out, probably due to the salty roads, I replaced all of them with stainless steel lines like what the factory should have used themselves. Over all I'm very happy with this vehicle, I've taken 1,000 mile plus trips without worrying about breaking down though it had 180K miles on it. It's not great on fuel but pulling a 4,500 pound sometimes heavier trailer I wouldn't expect it to be but it certainly has the power to do it. The only upgrade I did was installing rear shocks with a coil spring around them as a helper spring just because I do tow trailers at least once a week. This is the newest vehicle I've ever owned so I guess I can't compare it to new cars, my others are a 96 Ford F800 and a 69 Chevy c-10 pick-up.
Got a 01 Silverado 250k miles on it, still runs like a champ. Love my truck.
99 sierra blows past these new broke down jokesters😂
Got an 2003 with 142k miles on it ...still runs great!
Here’s what went wrong: The American government bailed this trash of a company. Should’ve let them gone under...
Please elaborate if you want.
Obama is the one who bailed them out. Because liberals are pro union. Your union fees go to the democratic party. Liberal Obama is the one who bailed them out. Any liberal president would've done it. I would let them go under. GM is crap
Jim Fusco Couldn’t agree more. Canadian government helped too... So there’s that lol
@@jimfusco7546 trump would've bailed them out too. Just saying..
@@Mohapi_Tau trump would have made the efforts to bail out something worth our time and not a car company built around poor quality lmao
Had to have oil pumped replaced last year in my 2015 Silverado. 75k miles. Chevy dealer wanted $2500, but after complaining to GM, they did it for $1500. That's still ridiculous for a 5 year old truck with that many miles.
My 2012 Silverado transmission failed at 70,000 miles. When I had a ford it never had issue at 160,000 miles.
I have a 05 Yukon with 208k miles and a 1991 Suburban with 277k miles. Both have the original 4 speeds and original engines. Never had to take either of them apart! I'd love to see anything made past 2010 get that high without needed this much work.
Greetings to the Kilmer family from British Columbia!
Beer + Scotty Kilmer. Best combo ever!
I've watched every video of yours, Scotty. I've learnt a lot.
Thank You for all your hard work :)
Hey I’m in BC too! I’m on the bus heading to the dealership to pick up my 2019 Silverado as it was acting up again. Wish I found Scotty sooner!
@@foxbodyboys4483 Hey! Sucks to hear that you're having issues with your truck that's only about 2 years old. That's just not right! Don't pay them anything, force them to fix it under warranty and to give you a courtesy car.
Tell your friends and family [only the ones you like haha] not to buy American garbage anymore. Spread the word.
I hope that things work out for you and that it doesn't have any further issues within the near future!
I wish you the very best!
Varun Kashib - oh I’m fighting them.. it’s been happening since a few weeks after I got it.
My brother in law got a 2017 F-150 and has over 250k on it now and no problems... I should have got one, or kept my Tacoma. Thanks for the kind words.
@@foxbodyboys4483 I understand, sometimes we make mistakes but we learn a lot from them. My first car was a 2000 Toyota Camry XLE V6. Me buying it was a complete accident. I had no idea about Toyota's reputation in the car world. I was pleasantly surprised when my Camry made it to 562,000 Kms with no issues. All I did was Timing belt water pump changes, oil and filter changes, ATF changes, coolant, one radiator change, brakes, battery, and i changed the original starter at about 550,000 Kms. Still ran like a clock, the Transmission shifted smooth, AC still blew cold, all electronics worked flawlessly.
That 1MZ-FE V6 and that AISIN A541E transmission was so well made. The Camry was made in Japan and it showed.
I sold it recently to a guy in Surrey, BC and he's using it as a family car. I replaced it with a 2008 Honda Accord with a J35 V6 but still miss the heck out of my Camry.
The Accord is alright, but the Camry was legendary.
When it comes to American vehicles, the Ford F Series trucks and old Crown Vics are the only ones I'd seriously consider spending my money on.
I'm sure you miss your Tacoma, I know them to be excellent trucks!
One day everything on your Silverado will be working just like it should, it'll be a good feeling :)
Varun Kashib - yes I know what your saying about mistakes.. I think it’s hit and miss with certain vehicles. Seems like most brands have their good and bad vehicles, some can still be garbage.
I sold my 99 Tacoma because I needed a bigger truck to pull a trailer and your right I should have kept it!! Awesome little trucks.
I am selling my truck when it’s fixed.. GM has been bad to deal with. My first and last new GM that’s for sure.
The phrase “old as the hill” gets me every time
Yes as old as the hills, or as old as the sea! Hahaha 🐴

@@fordnut4914 that cool 👍. That a Diesel ? My 91 Toyota pick up gasser is pushing 620,000 miles and only engine work was a timing chain at 450,000 . No trans work . Still runs great .
I bought my 08 silverado brand new, and now 270,000 miles later still runs and rides fine. 98% of those miles are highway
Theyre not building cars to last, they dont want you running these things past 6 years. Its a bad business decision. They want you to buy the car new. They want you to bring the car to the dealer for maintenance. Then they want you to trade it back to the dealer (at 30 to 50k) to buy a new car. Then they want the 2nd owner who most likely bought it used from used the dealer to also take it to the dealer for maintenance. Once hes done and trades it at 75-100k his for next used car then they MAYBE resell it on the lot or just cut it and send it to the auction. At that point, theyre done. The money in used parts sold to napa and what not is NOTHING compared to what they make on the first two people who bring to the dealer.

My 27 year old Chevy K1500 has excess of 294 thousand miles. Still going strong, and PAID FOR. Gets around 15 MPG here in the Ozarks, and an honest 17MPG on the highway.
My 2014 Sierra had an a/c problem too, luckily it was just a hose on the passenger side. Cost me $350

2015 Silverado owner here. Got the truck new back in 2014 no complaints or issues with this truck. Since new I replaced the battery, tires and brakes everything else just regular maintenance. If a truck fails this prematurely it’s usually the owner that does not take care of his vehicle. I would definitely buy another Silverado if I ever need a new vehicle.

14 mpg in town is wildly optimistic. And I know you dont think people need 4WD, but us folks who live in the North West and hunt, fish, or otherwise spend time in the mountains, really do need it.

I have a 2013 Chevy Volt. Bought it for $14k in 2016 with 35k miles on it. Now it has 103k on it. 70% of my miles are powered by wall current on the 38 mi. battery. I have only had one problem with the car. The radio died and I was able to pick one up on eBay for $50 and had white auto media clear the VIN code plugged it into my car and it works fine. That's it. I love this car. Most reliable car I've ever owned.

My last Chevy was a Trailblazer. Transfer Case Control Module went out twice to the tune of about $650 for parts and labor. While not brutal, that was it for me. Bought a 4Runner. Then a Highlander Hybrid. Then a Land Cruiser. Then converted my entire family to Toyo/Lexus. And we honestly don't worry about this crap. Yes the 5.7L in the Cruiser/Tundra/Sequoia is thirsty as hell but I'll pay for that
I just put in about twelve grand worth of restoration and upgraded the total front and rear suspension, including the rack and pinion, powersteering unit, replaced all the main gaskets, rear end, oil pan, valve cover, timing cover, etc, dual MagnaFlow exhaust, upgraded coil packs, plugs & wires, canister, both catalytic converters, fuel filter, front upper & lower lights, bilstien shocks, new water pump, battery, rebuilt rear end, all disc brakes pads and vented rotors, upgraded and rebuilt transmission, upgraded coil springs, front end leveler, all new wheel bearings. Didn't need an alternator works great. Engine (knock on wood) still runs smooth. Not burning any oil at all and still gets 15 mpg in the city 18 hwy (without the AC running), even with the new 32.999 inch AT tires. Always change the oil regularly (Mobil 1). My ex girlfriend asks me. Why didn't you just buy a new one? I said. Because I like this truck and I know how to fix it, and I own it! Insurance rates are cheaper and it's perfect for what I use a truck for. Plus! I got my mechanic buddy Scotty if I need any help in the future with it! She says who's Scotty? Well now that you ask, here's his channel. Now stop traded your good vehicles in for a cheaper built more expensive one every two to three years and you may get out of debt! HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but it was worth a try! She never listens to me anyway. That's one of the reasons why I traded her in for my truck. My trucks been loyal, and in the long run, been cheaper to maintain. So yeah, I'm keeping the truck, it reminds me every day how much money I saved. 😁 Keep her revving Scotty! 👨🔧 (2000 Chevy Silverado LS)
