Nice to know Scotty has a good understanding of how capitalism is supposed to work... The tax payers' money was never intended to go to private companies.
@@donellmuniz590 -- your right, the corporations are supposed to provide taxes and jobs, originally corporations where only granted authority to operate for the betterment of the country for a period of 17 yrs, so they wouldn't suppress competition and wouldn't become too large and powerful, they also had to stay within the confines of their corporate mission statement , now a corporate mission statement is like a advertising slogan, if ever even known
@@mdlclassworker3384 corporations aren't necessarily supposed to provide jobs. they may do that in the pursuit of making a profit, but they aren't employing people because they are supposed to. as was stated during a FDR-era public works project, if you want to give people jobs, don't rent a steamshovel to dig a trench - just give thousands of people a shovel and tell them to dig.

My last GM was a 1974 Chevrolet Vega. My next car was a 1978 Dodge Omni 024... the car after that was a 1974 Celica ST. Been a Toyota, Mazda and Honda fan ever since.
I’ve got a 1996 dodge 3500 dually with the 12v Cummins and the nv4500 5 speed best truck ever, I absolutely love it, had to put a new heavy duty upgraded transmission in at 350k and went ahead and rebuilt the motor with some upgrades too, this truck will outlast me as long as I don’t wreck it
i watch Junkyard Digs, and they mostly work on old 60's, 70s and 80's fords. Almost all the fords still ran after a little bit of work. Whenever he worked on Mopars, about 75% of them turn out to be NoCar.
MOPARS are the coolest cars of the 60s and early 70s. They made THE MOST power, and had a cool factor not ever realized by Ford or Chevy. MOPAR or NO CAR. (except Cadillacs)
@@jgfrakes2736 You must not get to drive much then...lol. All cars break...and for the record, early 60's mopars are some of the ugliest cars that ran down a road... next to volvos
You're right about GM. I have a buddy that works at a GMC dealership. Says that the majority of the stuff they work on is new. Very rarely do they work on old stuff and I believe it. I drive an '03 Silverado. Love the thing. Only issue I've had in the past 5 years is a knock sensor going bad. They used to build them a lot better
Couldn’t agree more. My dad has spent around 45 years working on cars, owning GM, Chrysler, and Ford and he has always told me that Ford is the best American car manufacturer. I’ve also always really liked Honda, Toyota, Mazda, and Subaru. Subaru is definitely improving in quality and reliability every year and you can never go wrong with Mazda, Toyota, or Honda. I feel that maybe in 5 to 10 years Subaru could be up there with Toyota, Honda, and Mazda.
7:40 My Australian GM Holden is still running well after 23 years ..albeit it has an excellent Buick V6 3.8 engine and bullet proof transmission 4L60e.

I absolutely drool over my 03 Ford E250! I bought it a few years ago for 1500 dollars with 250k miles, I now am just a few thousand miles away from 300k miles and use it to deliver packages for 38 dollars an hour! It paid for itself and has never broke. I am truly blessed.
Scotty points out the main reason you don't buy an American Car: PROFIT. Quality does not equate with PROFIT. And, American Companies do not WANT to make a reliable long lasting product, they WANT their cars to break or wear out so that you come buy another one. So that they can PROFIT. Ford gets out of the CAR market because they won't make enough PROFIT by putting enough QUALITY into their product to make them desirable.
you WAY underestimated the gm bailout cost: you forgot to factor in ALL the bond holders that were wiped out! pension funds, pensioners, etc. all of those folks lost their asses. that's on TOP of the $11B or so you mentioned.
Chevy could probably save the Camaro if they went with a 1960s redesign model (likey Ford did with S197 model Mustangs), but they are focusing a lot of effort and even more money into corvettes.
I had a 2003 Silverado. GM had a recall for the tail gate cables. Some genius at GM thought it would be cheaper to use galvanized cables instead of stainless steel. Well the galvanized ones began to corrode and break. So they had to go back to stainless.
My dad got a 2014 Ford Explorer back in Nov 2013. 8 years and 180,000 miles later, the only thing that gave out was the power steering. And mind you, we live in Dubai where it gets really hot and many cars are prone to failure due to heat
Ford lost me forever as a customer when they decided it was cheaper to pay the wrongful death and injury settlements on Pintos whose gas tanks exploded on impact than it was to fix the cars. Talk about only caring about profits. The horrendous design of the dual clutch transmissions didn't help. I've read the manual transmissions in Mustangs are also failing. If a car company can't build a reliable manual transmission they have no business making cars. Saying Ford is the best US automaker is like saying out of Ebola, COVID-19 and the flu, the flu is the best disease.
That's what my son thought..after returning Three brand new Very expensive top of the line Chevy trucks and dealing with service reps..he is done with Chevy.

Scotty Kilmer made a video out of my 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis and I love it very much. I'm surprised he didn't mention the old fashioned panther platform.
Lol! I've met Scotty personally and he made a video out of my Mercury Grand Marquis... knowing him, he really doesn't seem like an easily offended guy. I wish I got to interview him.
He's crazy as hell. There was a auto dealer in Texas that was advertising their trucks with a/c seats "a/c seats for all your wet backs" needless to say didn't go over well.
Some years ago I was around a Oldsmobile VP of something or other and he said we as Americans “have to” buy GM even though they made lower quality vehicles otherwise the company would fail and it was too big of a company to fail.
My grandmothers Cadillac had a recall for the spring that holds the car key in place. If too much weight was on key it could slip out. But instead of replacing the spring when she went to the dealership they just put a cap on her key ring loop so she can’t put it back on a key ring 😂
Honda or Toyota or don't bother, had just about everything over the years and these 2 manufacturers are the only 2 that have proven long term durability with sensible maintenance and running costs.
Pre-Renault Nissans, Mazdas, and Hyundai (preferably 2000's and early 2010's models) are all modern, good choices that don't hurt the wallet, nor do they break down as much. The hand-crafted German vehicles and old Volvos are also decent choices, but they're all pretty old now, but they're decent if you don't mind the age.
*whiny voice* "oh but they're so expensive to buy new or used! Chevy/Kia/etc is cheaper!" "yeah, because they have no resale value because they're lower/much lower quality"
My Fords have been as good as my Toyotas. Including the 80's Toyotas. Less rust, and more fun as well. I mean yeah if you had an Aspire or a Tempo or a Contour those sucked. My 94 Probe GT would whup Scotty's Celica as well.
I love Scotty’s channel, love this video, and I know he loves Ford, Toyota, & Honda. But I had a 2008 F150 and never got 100,000 km out of it before the engine was unrepairable. I changed the oil regularly but apparently 2008-2012 5.4L engines were garbage. Even before The engine went, the handling felt super light and scary over hills. Never liked the way it handled. I still have PTSD from all the money I spent repairing that truck. Now I’m driving a Sierra 1500 and (knock on wood) is performing great with way better fuel economy. And it drives better. After researching for literally 2 years, the best advice I heard from a mechanic was; “just buy what you like. They will ALL have their own individual issues”
what motor was it? if it was a 5.4 triton then that makes sense cuz those motors are awful haha, but if you went a few years later when they brought out the 5.0 coyote, that is a very solid motor
I have an 07 Chevy Silverado z71 5.3 damn good truck had the damn thing for 14 years only thing I had to do last month was change the throttle body knock on wood
Mad Money's Jim Cramer screamed, "my daughter's car was only 2 years old, and the motor had to be rebuilt because a seal broke, I will never buy an GM product again ! ! ! ! ".
In my experience having all 3 brands Worst:GM Ford and Chrysler about the same. Maintenance on my Jeep Grand Cherokee has been much cheaper than my Ford F150 and I did most of the maintenance on my Ford myself. Relative to 100,000 mark.
I'm an Ironworker. I was building an addition on a Fiat plan right before the bail out. The General told me get your men and go. This was mid job, and I thought it was a joke. NO! They wanted the bailout money to pay for the work. We went back in 2 months to finish.
*( Not sure how I feel about the new F150(s). 4 of my friends have bought them brand new but, issues with BOTH, the EcoBoost and the 5.0. The Ecoboost presented a variety of issues, from waste gauge issues, to inter coolers "over-cooling" and condensing too much causing engine shutoff issues during long highway trips, to the brand new 5.0 miss-firing when on full throttle while going uphill. My friend with the 5.0, has took it back to the Ford dealership in Chattanooga, TN, and for the 3rd time what he hears from the maintenance manager is the good old "when we test drove it the issue didn't present itself"...Again, we're talking BRAND NEW. I'd rather stick to a good old Toyota Tundra, thank you very much. )*
@@KB-bh9hp I would get their older trucks because my 73 F100 "hand me down" pickup is still getting the work done. Only time will tell if a modern F150s are still gonna be working on job sites 40 years later.
I agree with Scott mostly but I've driven nothing but gm products and I've NEVER had any major issues with them, put 367,000 on an 04 Yukon (still running), 400,000 on a 99 Burban (totaled), 300,000 on a 04 trailblazer (still running) bought a Ford exploder broke down every 3 months for the same thing. Gm fan for life here
Really just depends I do think the old big V6s and the V8s are great. But I'd def stay away from the newer V6s and the Turbo 4s. I wouldn't mind a GM V8 any day of the week though
I’m just here to listen to Scotty flame Ram. Every time I see a social media post with someone I know showing off their new Ram truck or Jeep Fiat/Chrysler product, I just think, “my gen one Tacoma will still be rolling long after that thing is dust.”
@ bngr bngr. I don’t know about the latest ones, but I’ve driven ones from 10-20 years ago extensively. Tacoma’s are the better vehicle hands down. If you’re going to buy new, get a Tacoma. Used, I’d get a Ranger. The Rangers aren’t garbage, they’re just not as good as the Tacoma and you’ll have to repair them more frequently to get to 200K and beyond. My 98 Tacoma was virtually all original and going strong at 238K. My 03 Ranger needed multiple repairs by 100K, but no major failures. Tacoma’s have absurdly high resale value however. Even high mileage beaters demand a high price. Rangers have a resale price that reflect what they are actually worth.
Lexus Boi I bought a 1999 F-150, I drove it for about 6 years, I gave it to my dad, he drove it for 8 years, now my friend owns it. Those cars just keep on working.

Nice to know Scotty has a good understanding of how capitalism is supposed to work... The tax payers' money was never intended to go to private companies.
Or giant, corrupt banks.

I drive an '03 Silverado. Love the thing. Only issue I've had in the past 5 years is a knock sensor going bad. They used to build them a lot better

I don’t get why ford can’t compete in the sedan business. I feel like every other car I see driving down the road is a newer Ford Fusion

my dad's old Plymouth Breeze was literally like its name. lasted as long as a breeze. 100k and it went to the junkyard
They didn't even pop for a real name plate for them. It was a stick on decal that said " Plymouth Breeze".

My grandmothers Cadillac had a recall for the spring that holds the car key in place. If too much weight was on key it could slip out. But instead of replacing the spring when she went to the dealership they just put a cap on her key ring loop so she can’t put it back on a key ring 😂
Oh boy what a joke.
Why did she accept that.... That's ridiculous. It needs to go back.

2.3 4cyl turbo charged only engine available. Get a base F150 it's cheaper better motor options and more vehicle that has been proven for the money.
I have only seen a total of two new Ford Rangers on the street. Dealership has dozens of them.
