I totally agree with how fun and satisfying it is to be getting a series over time and work for it, it feels amazing when you finally get to completing it, but I also would like to point something out about instant buying an entire series. There's obviously some people who do it just to be in the ¨cool kids¨ like you say, or because of sales and what not, but it's definitely not the only reason why one would do that. At least to me, the biggest reason to do that is to be able to binge read a series right when you're most excited and intrigued about it. It's definitely my preferred way of experiencing series, it's just such a good feeling when I can schedule out a weekend where I have nothing to do and just go through 10 to 20 manga in a series and get completely immersed in it. I also prefer doing the same thing with anime except those take less time to go through so it's easier to binge lol. It's really bad for the wallet though that's for sure lol, but still I find it really fun going through series that way as well.
I can at least agree on the binge reading, since I have a similar approach. For me, if a series is complete and out, and I start to buy it, then I will often not read it until I have all/most of it. Now I didn't meant to group everyone who buys everything into: just wanna be cool, since it was just a joke take on, what I often see: they don't want to fall behind others in the community. But again, there is nothing really wrong with that approach if that is what makes you happy and let you enjoy this hoppy. It's just from my point, and how I approach it, that it seemed it was missing the point of collecting. But then again, most who instant buy are from the US, and those prices are almost half of the EU prices, so that helps a little.
@@Daidarius i live in Europe but i am from Brazil, one thing is that we just buy on sales, cause manga is really expensive to buy it in Brasil,so it's common to buy a different range of series that you want, that have better prices, sometimes some volumes of a series go on sale for about -30% to -60%,but others don't,so you buy the ones that are in sale and wait for the others to get a discount,so at the beginning I did have a lot of series but no many volumes of each, but as the sale go on,i started to have completed series, and the market in my country is very complicated,is quite common to volumes go out of sale rather often whether is a famous manga or not, when I moved on to Europe I started buying mangas in English but I still buy in Brazil when I do like the edition, and the french editions are really pretty, they do like to make fancy editions or editions like the Japanese version. I know the context is pretty different, just saying a reality of my country that I did have to go through.
I have to say I did liked that Fullmetal Alchemist came out so slowly because I was 'behind' in the beginning so I could catch up in a bit more budget friendly manner. I also had the joy of anticipation in waiting! I think the last time I felt that way was when I was a teenager waiting for translations of my favourite fantasy series. So it was a bit nostalgic that way. 💛 Great video! It made me realize that I actually enjoyed reading and waiting for Fullmetal Alchemist, Wotakoi and Fruits Basket but not so much for others so food for thought there...
That is indeed an excellent point. I can also understand from many others, that they appreciate some slower releases exactly to ensure that they are financially ready to buy said volume, when it drops. That way, they still get to anticipate the next release, and don't have to always catch up. Dang, now I wished I had addressed that in the video 🤣
Great video, I always find it funny when people show off their collections and they have so many incomplete series. On the other hand, having a bunch of completed series and not having read any of them is a bit odd too. I get people just want to binge the series when they get a chance, but I prefer reading at a slower pace so it’s easy for me to get a certain amount of volumes while I’m reading
To me it depends. If the series is out, and you are catching up, then waiting for a bunch could result in a better experience. It depends on the series though. Light shounen doesn't need to be binged, but more complex stories like vinland saga or monster do benefits from it, as long as you don't speedruns it. I do agree however, and I have a video coming up on reading ones backlog!
Everyone loves to complete a series, but you are so right, taking your time makes it way better!! I limit myself to only buying manga in person unless there is no other choice. The hunt for the volumes at physical stores or used book stores makes it more fun.
Fantastic topic it really is satisfying collecting a series to completion! This is really high production values for the video definitely getting my sub!
I can't even begin to describe how much of a well-made BANGER this video is. You expressed regret for not touching on the financial aspect of things for certain points, and yeah I do wish that was included, but otherwise this is a fantastic video and I'd say probably a fantastic introduction to manga-collecting as a whole, actually. Wonderful work, my dude.
Thank you! That is way too much praise for this video, but I'll take it and try to make a different discussion piece of the same quality. Hopefully sooner rather than later
@@Daidarius Looking forward to it man, take your time!! And no, I do think the points brought up in the video, their structuring, and the rest of the production quality of the video is worthy of that much praise :) So if you're unsure, whatever you're doing, just keep doing that hahahahah
I completely agree that completing a series is enriching to both the mind and soul. I also understand how difficult it can be to achieve that goal and as a result, it may just be the path of least resistance to continue collecting by picking up another series or giving different characters a chance to be read/explored. I think there is a happy middle ground where a collector can strive to achieve both the feeling of satisfaction of completing a series and obtaining new series to (hopefully) do the same in the future. Sometimes we all become subjective to impulse purchases and we don't need to feel bad about obtaining what may have been a 'spur-of-the-moment' purchase if we found the book to be enjoyable. I'm a Graphic Novel collector so my perspective may be a bit different compared to Manga collectors but I too also know what that rush of serotonin feels like when you complete a series as well as the pain that comes with actually finishing the story arc and leaving that world of enriching characters. It's difficult to be a collector especially when there are so many amazing stories/series that have gone out of print. Love the video 😁👍!! Keep up the great work ❤️!!
This is a video that was recommended to me and im thankful for it. Completing a series is more for the journey and escaping into the manga comic. Im literally sweinf this perspective through the reading/waiting phase
journey is the best part of collecting! i look at things in my collection and rememeber where i bought it, and what i did that day (not everything lol but most) which only makes looking at your collection more fun, and gives you a more satisied reaction when looking at the end product and knowing you "worked" for it
I fully agree. There are so many series I spent 4-5 years picking up every single volume the week it came out. And these series are extremely important to me not only as a story but also the memories of where I got them from and to be that dedicated through many ups and downs economically.
Did this with Tokyo Ghoul only Vol 1. through 9. was available. And I waited out the release of every volume after even into :re and the final 16th that closed it. All individual, no boxsets and I'd argue that's why anything 'Tokyo Ghoul' resonates with me. I have a passion for it to be realised in a proper adaptation of the rest. That 'expo' is a slap in the face even if it is well-intentioned. If they announce a reboot from it I'll still be p*ssed. That's how much I want Tokyo Ghoul to be recognised. The feeling I felt when the journey came to a close....was spectacular. And the anime robbed any feeling of 'closure'. I think that's what most TG fans are feeling from the lacklustre adaptation, and why we are pining for a reboot collectively. I'd argue The Promised Neverland's Season 2 demands the same, another series that I completed despite the hardened rumours of a piss poor ending. I still read it, and it did make me question the outcome. But provided enough for closure. That's why these anime adaptations suck because they skip to the conclusion and don't acknowledge how to get there. When anyone who's seasoned enough can probably figure out the anime/manga is addictive because of the longevity and the journey that is needed to reach the destination on the horizon. I realise now that it is the soul and the heart of the anime/manga culture, in its entirety. And that's why corporate greed is all too easy to see in the medium. I suppose with these words I have grasped the very essence of what a 'anime' fan is.
I want to say on a side note from my other comment that the quality of this video had me really impressed, like I got kind of a Mothers Basement level of quality video. Then I saw your subscriber count at a measly 640 and thought to myself this guys is gonna be big someday feeling. Hope to see big things coming from you this video was great.
I remember when i started collecting manga in october because i wanted to pickup where the Hunter x Hunter anime ended. I got the last 4 volumes of it and Kaiju No 8 just to begin my collection and of course it led me to research more series. I was in a competition against nobody to finish series as soon as possible but you're right, finishing the series as fast as possible doesn't even compare to collecting it over the course of time. Since I figured that out, my wallet is happy and I get the satisfaction of completing my collection book by book. Thank you for this video edit: this is just my opinion about myself and how i go about things (:
I'm totally the type who only has 3 or 4 volumes of most of the series in my collection lol. I set myself on a new series ban though, so hopefully I can finally complete some manga that I've been sitting on for literal years haha
When I was a kid, I started collecting DN Angel as it was coming out, and they just... stopped releasing new volumes. So I literally can't complete it in English as much as I want to ;_;
Totally agree. All the series I have completed and how long it has taken to do so at times not only has there been a great amount of elation but relief lol. Because there is always another series to work on. Now if only rent a girlfriend will ever come to an end hahaha. Such a long ride! As far as full metal alchemist I made my collection the 3-in-1 volumes but broke down and bought three individuals because I couldn't get one of them. Shortly after completing the set the box set came out and all I could do was laugh.
Yea I hate the release schedule of these long finished manga, it’s completely ridiculous, waiting years to read these long finished series is really stupid. Like Fist of the North Star, JoJo’s, Soul Eater, Gantz, Berserk deluxe etc. it’s ridiculous waiting 3-4 months for a new volume. I want to read JoJo’s Steel Ball run but I’m going to have to wait years to read it, I could be dead by the time it’s released. Waiting doesn’t make me feel like I’ve accomplished something, doesn’t make me feel like I’ve achieved something, it just annoys me. This is the thing in manga I complain the most about, I think it’s beyond insane to force people to wait years to collect these when the series is long finished.
I’m so close to catching up with Blue Exorcist! I’ve been trying to collect the manga since I was 14 but I was never able to get a lot of manga in HS. However, once I hit college, it really jumped started me really getting the volumes. I’m hoping to try and catch up on the next couple months so that way I just need to wait when new volumes drop! Also, it’ll help me focus on collecting more YuGiOh and Soul Eater perfect since I hyper focused on Blue Exorcist so much
I feel this video pretty good lol. I am new to collecting but spent some pretty good money over the past month or two, unfortunately i also like many out of print manga lol, i got a good deal on most of bokurano but am still looking for volume 3 and it seems the lowest price is like 200$ for one volumes lmao. maybe someday i will get it but it seems like alot for one volume. I do love the series though and have read it before.
This year they've started releasing Yu Yu Hakusho in Poland based on the Kanzenban release. I currently have the first 3 volumes, the 4th releases in January 2024. There are 15 volumes in total releasing 4 per year and the hardcovers are pre-order only. And they're getting ready to release Claymore 3-in-1 starting in Febuary 2024 with 2 volumes per year. And again with hardcovers limited to pre-orders. And pre-orders close 2 months before the actual release. Find me in the apls...
Good video man. Just found out about your channel and your content and efforts put into editing made me sub. I recently started collecting and was often faced with the "urge" to buy up everything all at once. To put a stop to that, I put a monthly budget on myself of Rs. 5000 (I am from India, in USD that would be about $60), and focused only on buying the series that I wanted at retail price. Rest I put on my low priority list, like I would only buy them if they are on a sale.
I think a lot of the reason why I start new series is because a few volumes take up less shelf space, I know this is counter intuitive but the Vagabond omnibus’s for example, I have half the series and it takes up one of my cubic shelves, that means to complete it I will need to find space for my complete Bakuman series… And then there’s things like Sakamoto Days, I’m up to date in terms of English volumes but it’s an ongoing series too and will take so much time and I’m not going to stop buying manga for years just so I can finish Sakamoto days first… And my 90 volumes of One Piece lol. I love Manga so much but I’m really running out of space, the little space I have I’m just usually more inclined to be silly and fill it with a few volumes of a new series…. There’s a stress to it but at the same time just thinking about it like a puzzle is also kind of exciting too…
I wanted to put out my thoughts on collecting and wanted to know if anyone else felt the same - Despite being an avid One Piece fan, I (currently) do not see myself having space for 100+ volumes, so instead I settled with collecting the Color Walks, which are 10 books compiling all of Oda's OP artwork from Volume 1-104; and for me, especially as a growing artist, find this easier to buy ten books than getting all the volumes or the 3n1s or the box sets - Continuing off the first point, I apply this Art Book Alternative to series that are just hard to get like Slam Dunk & Air Gear (If I can't collect the manga, lemme get the mangaka's artwork) - (I know this is a video about manga, but) For comic readers, does anyone wait for a compendium/complete omnibus to come out so you can read the whole run of something in one go? I know Daidarius talked about the importance of the journey (and I agree), but what about in some cases where it is far more easier to buy one book with the whole story rather than hunting for smaller issues/volumes? Lemme know what y'all think?
Those are some great takes. First, I have to correct you on the color walks compendiums. They each contain three singles, so they cover the first nine. The tenth has only recently been released in Japan. However, regarding omnibuses or compendiums, that is a great question. Now I don't like the compendiums for comics, since the one I own is to difficult to read and the gutter loss is abysmal (blackest night 10-year anniversary compendium). However, what ever medium one uses to collect something, be it omnibuses, compendiums, art books, or something else, I would still argue that the journey is important. I the case of a compendium, the journey could then instead be planning for the release (if it hasn't already), saving up, ordering it, keep checking the website to look at it, waiting for it to arrive, and finally getting it. Then it's not just another purchase.
Thank you so much for your input Amazing video by the way Also, sorry for not clarifying earlier, the Color Walks I know are the Japanese Editions. I work at a Kinokuniya in Katy, TX and we get them in regularly. So I opted for 10 individual Color Walks rather than them being bonded together in the English Compendiums Since you own them, you can lemme know if there's a gutter loss in those editions But your take on the journey stands and will think about it every time a manga/comic is finally purchased
Also, that Blackest Night comment hurts cuz I know exactly what you're talking about. I own both Batman New 52 Omnibus, the Supersons Omnibus, and the current two Milestones Compendiums. And while I haven't ran into the Gutter Loss problem too often (and I hope to keep it that way) But like you mentioned, there's still a journey in that as well!
I haven't completed any of my collections yet. I've so far have been collecting Assassination classroom manga and the ghibli films. You can count Spy X Family, but I'm caught up on and will always be caught up with collecting the volumes. My next collection will probably be all the comics Ikol (Loki) appears in, since Loki is my all-time favorite character. I will however not be touching anything from the TV series because they did him dirty in that.
I'm very deliberate with how i buy manga and anime. i have 1 genuinely want it and 2 it needs to be affordable, which is why i like manga i can buy manga one volume at a time so it's like getting a series in installments and it also usually has more content than anime does. i recently picked up the first 25 volumes of attack on titan. I wasn't going to get them but i love the series and they were almost 60% off so i couldn't pass on it. I'm pretty proud to have them all now, as a not i read the manga at the library and started buying what they didn't have so i had 25-34. i also try to keep up with the same series. whenever berserk, Vinland saga, spy family or chainsaw man come out i buy the newest volume immediately. sometimes i go after a series that's already done like bleach so i have something completed. box sets are also huge for me since they're a pretty good value and convenient plus they usually come with little extras like how fma came with a light novel and poster, i also like the cases they come in it lets me store my series off to the side for a while if i run out of room on my book shelves and i need a new one
I'll admit I buy way to many series. I've still enjoy my reads for collecting a amazing series, but college in my third year has made it where I read less. I have way to many volume 1 and say I will read them one day. It's a hassle but I still enjoy. Then there are series I do want to collect but they are either long or really out of stock at the time. Like, I want to read magi the labyrinth of magic, but it's hard to read the and get deep into when the series is reprinted so little.
I have been out of the market for about 3 years now. But yes collecting the entire manga is amazing but reading an entire series is even more rewarding. This is especially the case with FMA. Maybe that's also because I put the series on hold for about 15 years lol
I'm completing Pastel manga right now and oh boy is it so hard to dig thru 4 warehouse stores that sell 2nd hand japanese goods. I even had to compromise by buying volume 21 without a cover but at a discount. Im like 10 volums short to completing it.
We all have different motivations. I haven’t gone through the stories for most manga that I’ve collected. So for me before I’ve even finished the book I’m already looking to buy the next one.
I don't like to wait, so mostly I buy one-shot manga. and always look for manga when they already finished and buy them in full set, especially Naoki Urasawa collection. But now I have to join the waiting game with Asadora 😅
I really get the journey part. In my local bookstore I would get Berserk delux in sequence it nearly take me a year for 10th delux to come by other installment come and go but that number 10 is soo rare.. and finally I got it can't imagine gow happy i was that time, now I completed the delux and waiting for the 14th right now.
Before I started seriously collectingas an adult, in my teens I only owned one series almost completely: The rurouni kenshin omnibuses. But then I kind of got lazy and stopped getting those volumes, so for years it stood uncompleted together with some volume ones and volumes that held a favorite arc from an anime I liked. Then I wanted to really start collecting more seriously (as I had gotten a job as well), so now I'm at 130 English volumes, and then a few old volumes in my native language which they don't print manga in anymore. (Including another completed series, though one volume needs a replacement due to water damage, still looking for that) Most series I collect are ongoing, but there's three completed ones in there (including rurouni kenshin finally lol), of which I'm proud.
I was actually in the same boat as you. I collected the local translations, but when they got cancelled, I just stopped entirely. It wasn't until later, when I was working at a former job, that I started again, and then it was only a few series I finished. So in reality, I didn't get fully back into Manga collecting until the tail end of 2019, and it has been a fantastic ride since then
I love manga but there was this one series I found out about a couple years ago but was out of print but because its out of print I had to track down the volumes on amazon and ebay. this series is called with the light rasing an autistic child and im almost about to complete it with book seven there's 8 books also I had to buy the books out of order due to how expensive they are.
The annoying part is how ridiculously long most of these series are and how expensive that is to get all of them. Which is part of why I've been enjoying junji itos stuff cause it's very collector friendly. With him the "collection" aspect would just be getting all of his different work, but as far as the individual stories goes they are all standalone stories as single books for like 20-30 dollars. Meanwhile if I want Naruto it's like 300 books and 1000 dollars. (Probably exaggerating both of those numbers but not by alot) to finish even a single series is extremely expensive and I don't always have the interest to stick with a 70 or more volumes series all the way through.
Naruto is 72 volumes, and to buy them retail price at 9.99$ is 719.28$ But I got all three box sets for 350$ to 400$ on Amazon, brand new, a few years ago. But if you want to get them cheaper you can get the 3 in 1's. Their retail price is 14.99$. So, for all 24 they'd cost you 359.76$. But I've noticed Amazon has deals going on almost every week and at Barnes and nobles during the holidays they do a buy 2 get 1 free. Also I should mention Naruto is Finished and has been since 2014 in Japan. And is finished as well in its English release.
Appreciate the patience and commitment! Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my favourite series too and I will collect it soon! Just finished another series and I know how great it feels 😊 Also, did you finish collecting the single volumes or did you sell them?
I still have them, but as I said in the video, the Danish version was cancelled after volume 19 was released, and I never bothered to find that one volume
This was a nice little video. I am about to dip my toe into collecting manga myself. I have 2 volumes so far in my collection from two different series. (Rosario+Vampire and Honey Trap Shared House) I am about to buy the full set of Chobits 20 year anniversary omnibus (Its a classic series that I think is nice) ,and dropping $80 to $100 dollars is slightly intimidating but I also have F.O.M.O. that they wont be in print for long, but collecting an ongoing series like "Honey Trap Shared house" has me exited for the next release (Volume 2 is coming January 2024) so I get where your coming from on the slow and steady vs money dump ways of collecting. A manga that caught my eye in this video was "Sundome" could you tell me a bit about that series I may be interested in putting that on my radar (I mostly Read scans on Manga Dex since I am somewhat poor) ,but that book looks interesting wouldn't mind collecting it if it speaks to me.
I actually have a review for Sundome if you'd like. But if you just want a quick rundown: it's about these boys who are in a club, which if they stay virgins until they graduate, they will be given strong career opportunities by an organisation. The main character then falls for the new girl in class, who finds him interesting. She starts to tease him and challenge without committing fully (can't have him lose that v-card) and the story follows his desperate attempt to have, but not really have, sex with her. It has its moments, but don't hype yourself up for it. If you like ecchi manga, then give it a go. If not, then read the first volume to get a feel for it.
I just watched your review video. I was a little sad that it seems to be a not good story based on your opinion in the review, but I do sometimes like the guilty pleasure trash like Rent A Girlfriend and Date A Live.
Well I did praise aspects of it, and recommended you to buy and read it in a standard edition. Had I disliked it, I wouldn't recommend buying it 😅 However it didn't live up to the hype I got, which is why I say keep an open mind, and you might like it more. Also, don't take my opinions and take as the only takeaway, but focus more on when I talked about aspects of the story, art and characters that is important to your reading experience. That should help you decide if you want to give it a go. I hope you don't skip it, just because of my video, because then I failed to be a bit biased but fair
Yeah I get that part. I would say you came across in the video more bias towards negative. That there were more negative things than good, but maybe you could have touched a tiny bit more on some likes. Because you outlined your dislikes a bit more vividly IMO, but it only got good for you towards the conclusion of the story. It seems you would give it a 6 out of 10 if you were to scale it. Nothing great but a fun read. I think. Perhaps I could re watch your review with fresh eyes but on first look. It comes of as a strong maybe more than a go out and buy.
6/10 is generally what I would give it. Above average, but lacking too many places in my opinion. It's tough walking that line in a review, which is why I try to balance objective and subjective thoughts. This is also the second review I did in my new format, so I was (and still is) figuring out how to present these opinions truthfully without coming of as a bashing hater. Give context to why I liked or disliked something, and if it's because the genre was or wasn't for me, and that the viewer should take that into account.
Very fair argument, but I collect warhammer books aside from manga and other novels. And those books will just go out of print after a year or two and you might never see them again unless you're willing to pay scalper prices. You're kinda forced to buy quickly with them.
Im missing 3 more book for FMA but the reason I stopped is because I couldntget the last volume in store or online from the retailer I was going to. So I had a hard time an obstacle to get through and I just didnt have time. I could order online and get it shipped from somewhere else but I dont like putting my information or creating random accounts on random websites I wont visit again. Also Iam very very picky with what I do buy and collect
For me i had to stop buying manga, cause no money for it but in the last year i have been able to chase down some of the volume i am missing, tho one book is cursed every time i find it and buy it, something goes wrong last order got destroyed so, pain is all i got from that XD
I was rushing to complete my collection I bought 100+ volumes in 3 months it sabotage my financial situation Now I understand rushing to purchase manga can be addictive That's why now I only purchase 2 3 volume per month....
I started just resently started my manga collection and I would like to know should i collect the manga I love or should I go for the mainstream mangas?
It depends on your taste. Personally, I would only collect Manga I know I would enjoy, and won't mind it taking psysical space on my bookcases. So if the mainstream series doesn't immediately pull you to buy them, especially if you have already checked them out on manga plus or an other app (or the high seas), and you only find them mindly entertaining, but not amazing, then I'd say skip them. You can always come back to the mainstream, since they most likely will always be in stock. So start with what you love and enjoy. Remember, it's your collection. Don't let mainstream or the discord determine what your collection should consist of. Let your taste guide you. If you like it and what it in your collection, then that is all the reason you need.
i sat here in the beginning and was wondering why your accent sounded like so.. familiar.. and then i realised your danish as well, so quick question! do you buy manga from faraos or where do you buy?
Funny how you think my English accent is Danish, since I think it is as far from the "Danish" accent as you can come 😅 more like a frankenstein miss mass of all the accents. Anyway, I buy most of my volumes from Blackwell, and before that at bookdepository. I do occasionally fetch a book or two from faraos, if I'm in the facinity
@@Daidarius Ohh i see! Hmm yeah Well idk Im not sure, i just sat there wondering if you could be Danish and then you Said something w Danish manga and then it was confirmed!😆😅
My hardest series to complete was oh my goddess, in the uk most of the volumes past 17-18 are really hard to find took me years to find them all at reasonable prices.
Collecting the entire series means nothing if you don't reed the books, like a lot of manga "collectors" who just buy the entire series to put it on there shelf and never read it, lmfao
Currently i can't locate vols 2,4 and 11 for Fullmetal Edition. Not available on eBay, amazon or local stores. So I'll just claim the series is "complete" for now and be at peace.
I totally agree with how fun and satisfying it is to be getting a series over time and work for it, it feels amazing when you finally get to completing it, but I also would like to point something out about instant buying an entire series.
Then it almost becomes a treasure hunt at that point. It's a neat idea
W profile pic. I'm getting impatient on Sakamoto Days physical releases after buying the first 10 volumes 😂
I do both lol
The day you get the final volume, there's both joy and sadness, especially the series that came out on time bi-monthly.
Fantastic topic it really is satisfying collecting a series to completion! This is really high production values for the video definitely getting my sub!
people who dont complete series or have waay too many incomplete ones like multiple with only 4 volumes of a series are weird to me
only exception is when the series is on going
Some series are hard to get or OOP or sometimes people find good deals. It’s not that weird
we are poor 💪
@@sharebear421i wouldn’t say for everyone
@@SteelNilnot everyone
Completing a series is the best feeling! Great video
Great video man!
Thank you!
I wholly agree. It is so satisfying to complete a series
I think that's what most TG fans are feeling from the lacklustre adaptation,
and why we are pining for a reboot collectively.
When anyone who's seasoned enough can probably figure out the anime/manga is addictive because of the longevity and the journey
that is needed to reach the destination on the horizon.
I realise now that it is the soul and the heart of the anime/manga culture, in its entirety.
And that's why corporate greed is all too easy to see in the medium.
I suppose with these words I have grasped the very essence of what a 'anime' fan is.
You nailed it man, it's such a wonderful hobby, and as any collector's one, it gotta have the spicy elements 😂 I call that the uncompleted ansiety xD
Thank you for this video
edit: this is just my opinion about myself and how i go about things (:
Yeah
I'm totally the type who only has 3 or 4 volumes of most of the series in my collection lol. I set myself on a new series ban though, so hopefully I can finally complete some manga that I've been sitting on for literal years haha
When I was a kid, I started collecting DN Angel as it was coming out, and they just... stopped releasing new volumes. So I literally can't complete it in English as much as I want to ;_;
Totally agree.
You’re so real for the comment LMAO. Plain and simple.
Also, it’ll help me focus on collecting more YuGiOh and Soul Eater perfect since I hyper focused on Blue Exorcist so much
Great Video man, subbed
Also looking forward to completing the currently still running series I'm collecting.
There’s a stress to it but at the same time just thinking about it like a puzzle is also kind of exciting too…
I wanted to put out my thoughts on collecting and wanted to know if anyone else felt the same
- Despite being an avid One Piece fan, I (currently) do not see myself having space for 100+ volumes, so instead I settled with collecting the Color Walks, which are 10 books compiling all of Oda's OP artwork from Volume 1-104; and for me, especially as a growing artist, find this easier to buy ten books than getting all the volumes or the 3n1s or the box sets
- Continuing off the first point, I apply this Art Book Alternative to series that are just hard to get like Slam Dunk & Air Gear (If I can't collect the manga, lemme get the mangaka's artwork)
- (I know this is a video about manga, but) For comic readers, does anyone wait for a compendium/complete omnibus to come out so you can read the whole run of something in one go?
Thank you so much for your input
Amazing video by the way
Also, sorry for not clarifying earlier, the Color Walks I know are the Japanese Editions. I work at a Kinokuniya in Katy, TX and we get them in regularly.
So I opted for 10 individual Color Walks rather than them being bonded together in the English Compendiums
Since you own them, you can lemme know if there's a gutter loss in those editions
But your take on the journey stands and will think about it every time a manga/comic is finally purchased
I don't know why I read it as the color walks compendiums 🤷 But awesome that you go for the originals
Also, that Blackest Night comment hurts cuz I know exactly what you're talking about.
I own both Batman New 52 Omnibus, the Supersons Omnibus, and the current two Milestones Compendiums. And while I haven't ran into the Gutter Loss problem too often (and I hope to keep it that way)
But like you mentioned, there's still a journey in that as well!
Yeah I agree I sorta owned the hard collection volumes of fullmental it’s more like you got the series because you enjoy it
Great Video!
Great video
Collecting the deadman wonderland volumes when they where being re released was very satisfying
I'm the same rn with the Parasyte deluxe editions :) Looking forward to completing that sooooo much!
I'm completing Pastel manga right now and oh boy is it so hard to dig thru 4 warehouse stores that sell 2nd hand japanese goods. I even had to compromise by buying volume 21 without a cover but at a discount. Im like 10 volums short to completing it.
Nice video. I will be happy if I can at least completing Black Clover because it has a special place in my heart and supporting the mangaka of course.
Not hard honest to complete it
We all have different motivations. I haven’t gone through the stories for most manga that I’ve collected. So for me before I’ve even finished the book I’m already looking to buy the next one.
i only plan on collecting series i’m going to read and want all volumes to no matter the popularity
I don't like to wait, so mostly I buy one-shot manga. and always look for manga when they already finished and buy them in full set, especially Naoki Urasawa collection. But now I have to join the waiting game with Asadora 😅
Yes, I'm trying to complete, Btooom, Ubel Blatt, and Wolfsmund. Hope that the volumes i need get reprinted someday.
I got the complete sets for Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man and Hellsing and all I can say is, it felt amazing.
my collection is exactly like that, a few volumes from a dozen series. i wish i realized to collect short series only
I really get the journey part.
(Including another completed series, though one volume needs a replacement due to water damage, still looking for that)
Most series I collect are ongoing, but there's three completed ones in there (including rurouni kenshin finally lol), of which I'm proud.
Naruto is 72 volumes, and to buy them retail price at 9.99$ is 719.28$
But I got all three box sets for 350$ to 400$ on Amazon, brand new, a few years ago.
Just finished another series and I know how great it feels 😊
Also, did you finish collecting the single volumes or did you sell them?
Had I disliked it, I wouldn't recommend buying it 😅
However it didn't live up to the hype I got, which is why I say keep an open mind, and you might like it more.
Wait until you try to complete Vagabond 😢
nice vid bro :)
Already own these volumes
For me i had to stop buying manga, cause no money for it but in the last year i have been able to chase down some of the volume i am missing, tho one book is cursed every time i find it and buy it, something goes wrong last order got destroyed so, pain is all i got from that XD
I see
Imagine when ppl complete one piece…MASSIVE DOPAMINE RUSH🤩
I was rushing to complete my collection I bought 100+ volumes in 3 months it sabotage my financial situation
Now I understand rushing to purchase manga can be addictive
That's why now I only purchase 2 3 volume per month....
No problem.
Even if I rarely buy from faraos, I still love to browse their stores from time to time, just in case something catches my eye.
@@Daidarius yeah same i do that sometimes Too
Most of my manga is complete
Only ones im hunting down are yotsuba&! And swedish translations of dragon ball
oh damn ur volume 5 of FMA also dont habe the lines on the spines we habe the unlucky print :(
I know, and every time I notice it, it drives me nuts
My hardest series to complete was oh my goddess, in the uk most of the volumes past 17-18 are really hard to find took me years to find them all at reasonable prices.
That is awesome! I'm guessing that was cause for celebration when you actually managed to complete it
Collecting the entire series means nothing if you don't reed the books, like a lot of manga "collectors" who just buy the entire series to put it on there shelf and never read it, lmfao
Funny how this video was good but meand nothing since everyone e of your Last videos are all massive haul videos.
Did it mean nothing because I didn't make more videos in this style or because my hauls went against the message here?
Currently i can't locate vols 2,4 and 11 for Fullmetal Edition. Not available on eBay, amazon or local stores. So I'll just claim the series is "complete" for now and be at peace.
Great Video!
