- BBC Announcer Lucy Bolger opens up BBC1 at 0705 with the first balloon ident on Saturday 4th October 1997
25 years ago today, the best BBC logo ever appeared! And the iconic Balloon idents!
Here to say farewell to the BBC Blocks 1997-2021.
October 4, 1997 and 1998 are synonymous for two things, the BBC updated their logo in 1997 with the introduction of the balloon idents and ITV also gave their own logo a new look - which lasted a little under 8 years.
Today 19/10/2021 is the last day this BBC logo will be used across the network.
1997-2021
Are you sure?
Internationals And Other's Yet Use it Till now.
They should bring the 'Balloon' idents back - this year marks 80 years of BBC1 (forgive me if I'm wrong). BBC1 started as the BBC Television Service way back in 1936 (the first regular service).
Your correct.
Daniel Davies Also, the main channel BBC One started in 1936
Nice to see the balloon! I remember coming to the BBC TV Centre once and there was a looped version of the balloons on a screen in Reception!
Thank you for this of course-well done too!!
The original crop of balloon idents were filmed circa July 1997, so it was quite a quick turnaround from devising the concept, filming, editing and getting it on screen.
Especially since I believe the original batch all used CGI.
@@badcatalex The original batch were all live. Subsequent ones were all computer augmented as that solved the problems of the balloon blowing the wrong way, the weather not being so agreeable etc.
The beginning of the most iconic BBC logo of them all: The BBC Gill Sans Blocks.
Now going to be replaced by the new "Reith Blocks".
(🎼BBC ONE IDENT THEME.)"Hello, Very Good Morning and welcome to BBC One on Saturday the 4th of October with a brand new look!".
The start of an era that sadly the BBC ended at the last part of 2021.
But I still prefer this BBC logo with Gill Sans over the current Reith one.
Since it has given a form some used and some (talking about the Italian counterpart of the BBC) still use today.
#TooMuchReith #BringBack1997Logo
I distinctly remember this
Saturday 4th October 1997
Welp, on the 4th of October 2017, it will mark the 20th anniversary of the BBC One balloons idents and the New BBC logo, which of October 2017, will be the longest logo used by the BBC to date.
I still can't believe it will be 2 decades now, times flys heh.
Glitchy You mean 2 decades?
Rusty Ralston, my mistake haha
This is great to see! Ah the memories of 1997
The Balloon Ident Appear due to BBC 's Rebranding in Saturday, 4th October 1997.
I bet no one knew that the new logo would air on that day in 1997
It’s safe to say that since the previous night, the closedown announcers on 1 and 2 didn’t mention the change. Unusual considering the previous change in 1991 did receive a mention the night before the change.
The begin of an era.
"It's up up and away as far as Mars now on BBC One for Flash Gordon!".
Happy 20th birthday balloon!!!
07:00 for Flash Gordon, weren’t we lucky not to have Breakfast News.
Fantastic to see the balloon's first decent!! :) xx
BBC One and BBC Two was controlled from BBC Television Centre via NC1 and NC2.
22 years ago today.
These are my favourite BBC1 idents ever. I love the Balloon and I love the music too.
Does anybody know where to get the music from?
The current "circle" idents that BBC1 play today, I'm not a fan of at all.
The balloon idents should come back. Hope the BBC will get rid if the current "circle" idents.
They do got rid of those circle idents in favor of Oneness.
Welp... guess the circles returned.
Haha "Ceefax" haven't heard that name since I was like 7
And in 2012, Ceefax was closed down.
Great to see the balloon! Lovedit!
I have a bit of continuity on an old video from this day with the end of match of the day and into the next programme
I remember this. They didn't even announce the night before that the old idents were going and the balloon gave people a shock.
But by 1997 the old ident was looking very dated and tired for sure.
@MrHammadmossop1988 I'm afraid that's not possible. 3 years ago there was a flood in Valencia ( where I live ) and the basement in my house was flooded and I think my old videos are most probably destroyed by the flood.
Anyone know the name of the piece of music at the start of the clip and where it can be downloaded?
0:06 song?
What's the tune CeeFax is playing?
On what date did Lucy Bolger leave the BBC Television announcing team?
I'm not entirely sure when she left the BBC announcing team. You have to look it up on Google.
Saturday night Tv use to be good! Now its just a load of reality crap!
I totally agree with you, The Schedules on BBC Television used to be so good with daytime programmes on BBC One in the morning followed by CBBC in the afternoon where as BBC Two would have CBBC from 7am till 9am followed by schools programmes in the morning with the CBBC birthday cards at 10am.
Where as weekends BBC One would have CBBC from 7am followed by Live & Kicking at 9am then grandstand after a news summary.
2001 was the last time BBC Television was used to be fantastic. Now it's just plain rubbish with boring schedules, rubbish programmes like strictly come dancing and rubbish logos.
@@meridian2000 BBC Television is still fantastic, unlike the rubbish and boring logos and schedules,
Still is good, Better then the in studio slock they used to have back in the days, and reality isn't that bad, man.
@@sillygoose635 I beg to differ and also, the Oneness aspect of BBC One has been rather disappointing.
In plain simple terms, television on Saturday nights has not been the same since the nineties. Period. Reality television poisoned weekends.
