+VC That's what happens when a movie is made in the midst of a major merger. Turner and Time Warner linked up around this time and with all the focus on the merger, there wasn't much effort in giving this movie the proper advertising campaign of a theatrical release. Ended up only making 1/10th of its budget back at the box office, 27 million shy of the 30 million it cost to make. I doubt home media vindicated it much either since it also had the bad luck to come shortly before the home media formats went through the changing of the guard as the old standard VHS gave way to DVD, helping to confuse the market as consumers vacillated between the old format and the new. It was a complicated time for selling movies for home, do you release on the old standard, or do you cater to the early adopters? It ended up splitting the market. In general, traditional animation had it pretty rough at the very end of the 90s and as we went into the new millennium, it seems like every factor you could think of was working against it. The studio shakeups and mergers, the rise of the competing CG medium, the barrage of deaths of the great directors, animators, and voice actors who had shepherded the medium for the prior 60 years and were still active right up to their last years.
It was so good that they've banned some of the songs in America. Probably other countries too, but I can't find most of the songs. Gonna make a petition for a remake that ISN'T live action.
The first time I watched this movie and when that song hit, it was so overwhelmingly good that my child-self couldn't handle the feels and I came close to tears. It is a movie that I will never forget. Randy Newman is a genius.
I was a child when I first saw this movie. I am 27 now. I recently watched it on DVD and it felt like I stepped into a time machine and got transported back to my childhood. They talk about "movie magic" in reference to special effects and camera tricks. If you ask me, what I experienced watching Cats Don't Dance again is the TRUE definition of "movie magic".
I don't see why this didn't get the success it deserves. This is one of the few movies from my childhood that I actually remember feeling emotion in. It wasn't just something my mom put on the TV. I was 5 when this came out. I was just reminded of this great movie today.
Loved watching this movie as a kid. Strangely enough, I'm now an admin/secretary like Sawyer who dreams about acting, dancing and singing as a career. Sure hope my time comes!

Oh my EFFIN gosh. This was and still is my favorite animated movie. Watched it more than any Disney movie when i was a kid, and that was only around maybe ten years ago. My brother broke two of the VHS copies i had, but i ended up obtaining another copy. It was meant to be!
Man, this has nostalgia out the wazoo. I love this movie. Sadly, I only have the VHS and don't have a VCR anymore so it's sitting on my bookcase collecting dust.
Cats Don't Dance was recently re-released on DVD in 16:9! It's available on Amazon for about $12. Just make sure the version you pick is the 2016 re-release, not the 2002 version which is in 4:3.
I used to watch this with my sister over and over now and we loved this song im listening to it now and it just warms my heart so much i miss those days so much😩
You can find it at any store around the town or you can find it online like amazon.com. You'll know it's the 2016 Widescreen US DVD cause it says Warner Archive Collection on top the box, does that help?
when I was little, my mum introduced this movie to me. I love you.. this right here is my childhood. I miss this movie :(( by the way, I was 2 at the time.
Oh my god dude thank you for this My Favorite animated movie all time I kid you not and this happens to be my favorite song in the film...How unfortunate that a movie like this has been forgotten
In 1997 I was 8 years old and in the 3rd grade. My entire class went on a field trip to the local movie theatre. I learned that day that cats do in fact know how to dance.
At the moment the train starts to move, look at the car on the left, next to the caboose. You can plainly see that only a very small part of it was drawn because when the train backs up in that spit second there's no train on the very hard left side of the screen. It's only there for a split second.
You know, I totally wish the animators animated the entire train itself, because I wanted to see what the engine looked like pulling that train. But still, this is a fun movie. :)
I wish the character voices outside of songs were louder. It was hard to stay engaged in watching it as a child, and it wasn't until I watched it in my teens that I really learned a lesson from it.
I remember seeing the ending song of this movie years ago and never seeing it again, looking for it every where and I’m so happy I know the name of it now
i was like two when it came out... i think i last saw it around 4 years old... i keep seeing the songs on youtube... but i don't have the movie anymore.... ugh... i wanna see the movie!! Q^Q i was only four, so i have a vague memory of it... all i remember is darla's big and loud (kinda), max, and danny.... i wanna see the whole thing!
You know, something I just noticed. With older cartoon movies, they always had the message of "Dream and never give up because your dream will come true!" not only that but, "Nothing bad lasts forever, keep going and eventually circumstances will brighten up." I dunno this could be me. *shrug*
@@tylerbollinger118 And, if I remember correctly, Twister gets referenced at the end along with a bunch of other Warner Brothers movies. It features the animal cast in place of the actors on the movie posters.
One of those good movies that never got the fame it should have.
VC agreed
totally why remaster transformer when there are those that deserve more oncur and audience

+BDNeon nice
This movie is so underrated, I mean the animation and story alone are worth more recognition than they've gotten.
Thanks
WB didn't think it'd do well, so they never gave it the time of day -_-
It was so good that they've banned some of the songs in America. Probably other countries too, but I can't find most of the songs. Gonna make a petition for a remake that ISN'T live action.
I remember watching this over and over as a kid. I’m in my 30s now and I still come back to these videos and it brings me joy. A timeless classic.

Thumbs up if you think this movie could be shown in theaters today, and every audience would love it. It would get the reception and fame it deserves.
a hidden treasure of a film
Omg...the feels...had this on VHS when I was little and used to watch it over and over again. Got the DVD a few years ago but God knows where that is

I think this has got to be the most under-rated movie of all time. The music, the theme, the characters are just amazing.
"And gifts of good luck, best wishes, and useless junk - oh well it's the thought that counts...."
XD
Yeah the jokes his this movie are great
This movie deserved so much more recognition
This was that one movie that would randomly pop up on Cartoon Network and I always looked forward to it ^_^
I LOVE THIS SONG! This movie should've gotten tons more fame than it had gotten! LONG LOVE RANDY NEWMAN!!!
Equestira Girls Fan 94! ok
Seriously!!!!!
25th Anniversary of Cats Dont Dance! Just enjoyed watching it again!
I love the fact that the credits were so carefully placed to feel like they were in the movie and not just blend credits.
This movie should make a comeback... Maybe it will get the attention it deserves!
I miss my childhood so much
Alice Smith if I could turn back time..
Yeah adult sucks
My grandma said that wasn't allowed to watch this movie cuz "It was dumb and you wouldn't like it." So i missed watching this as a kid
It's what almost 20 years now and I still can't get through this without crying.
Same 😩😭😭😭😭😭
the music, the animation...it all gave me such happy feelings as a kid. i love this movie.
The 90’s was everything so glad I have this on dvd I use to sing this to the top of my lungs who else knew every song from this movie
Which DVD do you have?Cause I own the 2016 Widescreen DVD
This is my favorite non Disney movie! I love how it takes place during the golden age of movies and film! Plus the music is jazzy and classy!
So under rated and under appreciated it hurts. This movie is gold
this movie always gave me such amazing, happy feelings
When the song came on, I AM GETTING GOOSEBUMPS; I LOVE IT!!!

I randomly found this movie while watching a top 10 disney villans video. And now it's one of my personal favorites.

Animated musicals back then just hit different almost better. Probably because I was a child

I still love to just sit down and revisit this movie. Love it.
I saw this years ago and forgot about it until just recently and seriously thought it had been some kind of fever dream or something lol
Gosh...remember when there was this much heart in a movie, instead of some of the crap we have today.

Great to look back on those childhood memories!!! Can't we have a movie like this again?
Man I miss this movie. Hearing this song again is a crazy wonderful blast to the past

One of the best movies of my childhood and still good! The same story as in Lala Land but told properly and in a far more interesting way! GO DANNY!

I was 5-6 y'o when I first watch this movie..and here I am now a 24 y'o..good memories indeed :)

A very inspiring film. I know. It inspired me to be a filmmaker and a creative one. This movie will always be in my heart for years to come.
My childhood soundtrack... Praise God for this!
I forgot how much I used to love this movie
Wow, the nostalgia!
None of the movies these days compare. They just don't have the heart and soul the likes of Cats Don't Dance does.
I remember I made sure that this was the song I was listening to on my iPod when I arrived at my university.
My Childhood Memories 😺😸💙✨
I love that movie since I was Little Girl.
THIS MOVIE IS JUST TOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss this movie so much! This is my fav song in the album!
My friend and I would always watch this when we little

2:08 My favourite part - it looks like the bus is bobbing up and down in time with music:-)
He rode a bus all the way from Kokomo to Hollywood? Imagine the bus fare. The gas prices!
I miss 90s cartoon drawings
They should have rereleased this instead of making the cats movie. Just saying
