geardog24 it's pretty fucking ironic. They made money off of animated shows but fucking hated it. Its like with Tiger Electronics marketing their video games to children but their bosses HATES kids (kind of explains why the RZone headset looks like it was designed as a torture device). These are people who have no interest in the medium they are in the business of. You're basically sabotaging yourself when you pull marketing for animated shows when your biggest projects ARE ANIMATED SHOWS.

@@AmaryInkawult You are a wonderful person. I have seen you stand up to the Furry-hating hoardes many times, and now these good words about animation? I love ya, and I'm not joking here.
You know why E3 always feels so cringy with the gaming CEO's standing on stage giving these pretentious "How you do, fellow kids?" type of speeches?
It's because they don't give a shit. They are businessmen, not gamers, not movie fans, not anyone who cares about the products that they are making. Hell, we even have this in the youtubing worlds, people like Nostaliga Critic, Cinemasins, and Honest Trailers used to feel like relatable people who you could understand, and they could understand you, but their presentations have become so corporate, pretentious, and bloated, they don't even feel alive anymore.
I remember where in the Honest Trailer for...Beauty and the Beast, I think, they made a 'joke' about how Beauty and the Beast was one of the highlights for 2-d animation, "followed immediately by it's downfall" and they put up images of many criminally underrated 2-d movies such as Atlantis: The lost Empire, Treasure Planet, and, you guessed it, Cats don't dance...fuck you, Honest Trailers. The people behind Screen Junkies claim to be relatable nerds like you and me, yet they promote this materialist corporate bullshit that because a movie does not make much money, it's bad?
I know that you could say that this is just a joke, but it ain't funny, and besides, a-many true things are said in jest. Good animators, and good storywriters who truly cared about animation have always been fucked over by their corporate overlords, but if we can give the creations of these under-appreciated artists the admiration it deserves, it won't matter what the critics, or businessmen, or fucking 'Honest Trailers' claims they know, because true art is made with *care and passion,* and these two emotions are so foreign to these types of people, that it might be considered another language to them.

True, you have to watch before you judge. For me most animated movies regardless of who did them are done well. The worst ones are the ones that look like they were rushed which isn't as bad as some of the non animated trash I've seen with bad acting, storylines and endings.
An example of a film that was rushed but actually paid off was Toy Story 2. Just by watching it alone, you wouldn't think it was rushed but it was. Pixar knew what they were doing, they pulled off the impossible and gave us a great 3D animated film enjoyed by everyone.
However, Cats Don't Dance which I think is an excellent film despite all the problems it had during production and still holds up today. I'd rather watch Cats Don't Dance numerous times than watch some of the movie trash I've seen on Amazon Prime.

And a warning to the other industries (live action, 3D animation) that they could befall the same fate. If that's the case, it was entirely prophetic. Spark, please pin this comment. This was written by Ryan Simmons, one of the movie's animators, he posted the following on the Nostalgia Critic's video about Cats Don't Dance.
"I was one of the animators that worked on this film. We were so excited for it to come out... it was looking so good! The animation was done by Turner Feature animation. During the creation of this film, Warner Bros. bought out Turner Networks and suddenly had this film land in their lap. WB totally dropped the ball concerning the marketing of this film. They did virtually nothing so no one knew about it, let alone had any desire to go see it. They did have a promotional tie-in with Subway and a few cheap happy meal type toys were made for it. But they just let it die. It was devastating.
When we went to the cast and crew screening, the first thing that came up was the WB logo, as if it had anything to do with the creation of the film. It was a slap in our faces especially after how poorly they marketed it.
And THAT is the reason if bombed at the box office... no one knew about it. It was never given a fair chance to sink or swim on it's own merits."

@@sigma5902 I've read about about this. tldr is that making remakes won't actually prevent their older movies from entering the public domain. Especially the ones based off of other fairy tales. It's possible that they could be trying to utilize their properties before they get released but the most likely they're capitalizing on the live action remake trend for a mediocre profit.

    • @christopheralthouse6378
      @christopheralthouse6378 5 років тому +11

@@JollucasChannel On that note, remakes really aren't a new thing...in fact, there are SEVERAL beloved classics out there that are, in fact, remakes...take for example the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the first two films of it being remakes of seperate halves of the animated "Lord of the Rings" movie...
Thing is, good remakes are made with care and a true vision of how the film's story could be told better. Without that care, a remake can easily come across as a cheap and cynical cash-grab, which I believe is the true issue that people are having with this latest batch of Disney remakes. Used to be, you would see a remake once in a great while when a studio actually had a great idea for an old film that they wanted to flesh out. With "Lord of the Rings", it seemed as though there was deeper story potential than what could fit into the original's run-time...so, making it live-action and stretching that film's story across two movies allowed the studio to delve deeper into the story than the original had and allowed for it to have a more epic feel, hence giving us the blockbuster success that the remake truly was....again though, these remakes only happened once-in-a-while if said remake was warranted...
Now, we get remake after remake with nothing new and original coming out...which means movies that haven't really NEEDED remakes to further delve into the story are getting them with what seems like little effort being put in to improve on the original...hence, the sense of these movies being cynical cash-grabs...

I also read that he was taking painkillers to cope with all the stress. Based on the newspaper article with interviews from David Kirschner, Michael Jackson put in his heart & soul for "Cats Don't Dance". If he went through with this project, we may have seen a live-action/CGI hybrid that would've blown us away like the audience while they're watching Danny, Sawyer, and the others perform on stage at the ending.

Another great movie that Warner Brothers didn't advertise is Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
That was such an amazing movie it could have been huge. Still one of my favorite animated movies to this day.

Man this review takes me WAY back. I remember I was introduced to this movie when I was in elementary school. My music teacher showed the class this movie and when I was a kid I was OBSESSED with this movie for years. I loved the music, the animation, and the characters, especially Darla Dimple. Every time I see that kid on screen it makes me crack up! There's just something hilarious about seeing this Shirley Temple-esque character just go insane! Anyway, This movie is very highly underrated and is still my second favorite non-Disney animated film to this day (second behind The Prince of Egypt.)
Also another thing I noticed while watching this review is how similar the plot is to Zootopia. Think about it: it uses animals as a commentary on racial stereotypes, the main character is an optimist who helps change the pessimistic views of another character as they get to know each other, and many things everyone says to Danny about keeping his dreams more realistic is very similar to many moments with Nick and Judy when they first meet (albeit Nick is more sarcastic and straightforward, but the point still stands.)

I think it was because we grew up in a time where animation was huge, especially in "kids" shows, and anthro character designs work very well with animation. With anthro designs you can often tell what a character is like just by looking at a single frame of them due to their exaggerated features and what behaviors we might associate with the animal in real life. So from an artistic point of view, anthro designs are a very effective at expression and it makes a lot of sense to go that route. Combine that with a generation of developing children and it is no wonder why a lot of people can get sucked into the furry culture. It's still super cringe and does not translate to real life (costumes) very well though.
