    Thanks! Maddening that this problem is so common and not subject to a recall, but a great video. Made it easy.

    Awesome video! Thanks for all the detail. Just bought my son a used 03 Accord. The owner said the backlight didn't work and it would cost several hundred $$$ to fix. Cant wait to fix it myself!

      scott cottrill Thanks Scott! Best of luck with your repair! As others have noted below, there were apparently several motherboard setups used in the factory radios, so just beware of that fact. I'm not sure if you can determine which you have without physically removing the radio and opening it up, but hopefully yours will match the one in this video.
      Let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching!

    I was gifted a Honda Accord 2003 and so far I had to replace the following common parts of failure: 1) Hazard/Turn Signal Relay (only the part cost me) 2) Shifter knob button & Side Plastic plate (which the part only cost me; (At dealer to replace this they would have charged me $340.00) and the Signal Relay Fuse at AutoZone was only $18.00). The car runs great as my brother-n-law did a lot of upgrading repairs and maintenance on it before he handed it over to me, so far minor issues has happened to it. :)

    Thanks very much for these videos. I intend to embark on this repair later in the week. While I'm in there, I'm also going to install a proper aux cable input, since that appears to be an easy process as well.

    The incredible detail you presented and the completeness of the repair process are outstanding. Great job. My problem is different on my 2006 Accord; it is like Roy Chirdo's, below. CD plays but volume is very low; radio works, but no sound at all.

      Ron Shansby Ron, thanks so much for your kind words. I'm really sorry that I am not more help with your issue. In my totally untrained opinion, your situation sounds like a problem with the unit's amplifier, but I honestly don't have any idea how to repair it. I'm hoping enough people will visit here that someone will eventually be able to chime in with a solution to these other problems that seem to be common with the radio units in this generation of Accords.
      Thanks again for commenting. Best of luck in your search for a solution!

    Hi Mr. Payne! bless your heart for sharing this video. My radio works but my climate A/C control lights are out. The resistor that you connected with conductive pen on the radio, is it also connected with that A/C control lights? I appreciate the reply. Thanks and God bless.

      +Yosua Setiawan By blank, do you mean that there is no light at all, but the radio still plays music? If so, then yes, this tutorial might help solve your problem.

    Matt, Excellent instruction. My problem with my 2003 Accord is the back lights works but the stereo doesn't. It was intermittent at first , but now does not play radio or CD. Any ideas? Can it be a connector that has come loose or a separate fuse? Thank you
    Roy

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  10 років тому

      Hi Roy, thanks for watching! That is an interesting problem that you have. When you try to play a CD, does it appear that the CD player is spinning the disc and the song is progressing, but no music can be heard? If that is the case, I would tend to think you have a speaker wiring problem, perhaps where the speakers connect to the back of the stereo deck.
      However, if the CD player and radio just don't function at all (disc does not appear to spin, radio stations do not change), then I would imagine that is due to an issue with an internal electronic component, and I'm afraid I'm not much help in that regard.
      In either case, I would start by checking the speaker wiring, just to be able to completely eliminate that before you start digging deeper. If you are able to figure out your problem, please post an update...I'm interested to know what you find out. Good luck!

      Every thing displays properly But no sound and when sound comes on it sounds like static and ear splitting - startling anybody in the car . Could the on/off button be defective or an antenna connection be the problem? Any ideas? Or should I try to replace the entire radio? Or buy a portable radio which is a lot cheaper?

    Hey, great video man. I have a question, hoping you could help. So my cars radio sometimes flickers and stays on after the key is out. It drains my battery if I don’t start the car for a few days. Do you think this will work for me?

    Hi, so does the backlight still work,? I'm probably gonna start my repair today

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  9 років тому

      Zeeshan As far as I know, the backlight still works. This vehicle belonged to a friend, who has since sold it to another friend of my family. The last time I asked, the radio was still functioning properly. With that said, the circuit writer pen is probably not a permanent fix; it would certainly be better to solder in a new resistor, but in my case, the repair seems to have lasted for a year and a half with no problems.
      Good luck, and thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the useful information Matt. Will that fix the same problem I have with my Honda Accord 2005? Everything looks the same I guess.

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  9 років тому

      +Sam lopez No problem, Sam! I believe this repair will work with your radio; however, several people have commented that their radio looked identical until they opened it up and discovered they had a different motherboard, in which case my video is not very helpful. I've not figured out how to tell the difference, but you may be able to do some research online and see if certain VIN number vehicles received different radios.
      Good luck!

    Hey! Thank you so much for your video. Gave my pops and I a chance to spend a nice afternoon together. I've never done something like this before, so we had a good time.
    Question: any idea what is wrong if only the button lights came back on but the screen is still dim?
    Much appreciated!

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  8 років тому +1

      That's awesome - father/son projects are great! As for your question - I'm not exactly sure what might be causing that, but I wonder if perhaps the conductive ink didn't cure enough, or didn't make enough electrical contact to allow full current flow. I know that several people have commented that they didn't wait for very long after the repair before testing the radio, and the repair either didn't work, or worked briefly and then failed.
      Out of curiosity, how long did you let the conductive ink set up before powering up the radio?

    • @BenaldoYeung
      @BenaldoYeung 8 років тому

      We actually didn't get a conductive ink pen, we went under the board and connected the two ends from that side. We used soldering wire and merged the ends.
      The lack of button lights bothered me more, so I'm glad they came back up. Maybe I'll just have to change the whole unit if I catch a nice deal!

      I followed your very exact instructions. thank you so very much. BUT. after radio was reinstalled it was ok for a week. my wife said something smelled like it was burning., the radio went black again. I reopened it and discivered the part was blackened. I moved it with a toothpick and it came off. with nothing to lose at that point I used the pen to try to coat a thicker line where it had been. I waited a couple of hours and connected the radio . it is working! I left it in place and will wait a week or so before putting everything back again. I also found a parts place that sell new radios for this accord. they want $400. if it goes bad again I'll probably buy it as the car is in really cream puff condition. thanks again for your help.

    Thanks for the amazing tips in this Video. I am looking forward to fix my mom's Accord that is having the same problem. quick question, video was published around 2013, is your radio still working?? I want to know how effective it can be with the circuit wire pen.

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  8 років тому +1

      You're welcome, Pablo! The vehicle in my video belonged to a friend, and he has since sold it to another friend of my family. The last time I saw that person (this past summer), I asked about the vehicle and was told the radio was still working fine. So, the repair does seem to have some longevity. Certainly, the best thing would be to replace the faulty resistor...but if you are looking for an easier, somewhat temporary repair, then hopefully this will do the trick for you.
      Good luck!

    Hey thanks so much for this. I tried it but unfortunately for me it didn't work. I think I didn't do a good enough job with the circuit writing pen. Thanks anyway.

      I fixed the problem with the radio backlight and it is now on. I am immensely happy to see the radio backlight after three years. I had forgotten how nice it looked. The problem I have now is that it will not turn off. The backlight went on before I turned the car on and it remained on after I turned the car off. The radio works properly, it is just the backlight that is having this issue. In order to avoid the battery from draining, I am removing the radio fuse when I leave my car and inserting it back once I will use the car. I work from home, so this process is not as hectic as it would be if I spent more time driving. I want to fix this new problem though. What suggestions might you have?
