Thank you so much!!! I was able to fix my trunk (2000 Cadillac Eldorado ETC) in 3 minutes, It would have been 2 minutes but I didn't know I had to have the key in the ignition for electricity to flow. I only needed to lower it about half an inch for it to fully close. I'm never going to replace the switch hehe, I'm just going to keep it as a normal trunk forever. You saved me $30. Thumbs up for you!
THANKS!!! I had this happen today and it was 10 degrees outside. the latch was down too low so it wouldn't latch when you slammed it.but your deal got it to the right position. I had tied it with a rope just to get home and got all kinds of snow in the trunk. now it's fine closes like any other car , who needs that crap anyway, just more things to break
I actually found a better way to do this without using the wires. those two black screws and bracket that keep the latch from moving can be removed and all you have to do is turn the latch a couple of times and put the bracket back and it works fine. No need to use those wires to lower it.
You could also take the switch out, drill out the rivets, clean the contacts and put it back together with a little mechanic's wire through the rivet holes and your trunk would work like new. Twenty minutes. It is a LINCOLN!
better yet on the back of the switch there is a smaller swich. flip that to bypass. and be careful when trying to bypass otherwise you'll cook your wire loom, I almost did.
great video, thanks! I'm trying to do this myself, but have no idea where to get that type of wire (or any wire for that matter). Can I take apart an extension cord or something? Does the wire gauge matter? Thanks for your help!
Any wire will work as long as the guage isn't too large to fit into the connectors. Any hardware store should have wire for what you need. What I used was around 18 or 20 guage. I wouldn't undo your extension cable. I have a lot of extra wires from old harnesses I keep from car audio and such.
Matty Mattel you do what the the man does in this video and if the motor moved the latch up and or down then you know motor is good if it don't do shit then u know the motor is not working
Mine just randomly lifted up one day and wouldn't pull down, this fixed it. 10/10
Thank you, mine just started acting up. Brilliant!
great idea mine worked switching wires at motor gives me up and down set it to height now shuts great 97 towncar

Careful how? I'd like to try that but don't want to cook the wires.
Just tap the wires. Don't twist them together
No there isn’t you trolling idiot

Morning could someone please tell me the placement spot for the trunk light. Inside the trunk of an 1990 Linconl Mark 7 lsc
How do you know if it's just the switch that's bad or the motor is bad?
Matty Mattel you do what the the man does in this video and if the motor moved the latch up and or down then you know motor is good if it don't do shit then u know the motor is not working
My latch motor didnt move until I put my key in the ignition so keep that in mind.
I have an 01 and mine won't even go up.
I sure would love to do this, but the motor is up, the trunk is down, and neither will move.
do the rear seats fold down? You will need to crawl into the trunk with a flashlight.
wait... the trunk key doesnt work?!?!?!?
