I just fixed mine on Sunday 7/24/22 on my 1991 Buick Park Avenue, BUT I PERMANENTLY REMOVED THE SWITCH. I simply found the sweet spot for the height of the pull-down latch bar, & set it to be (via a temporary direct connection to the motor) and now my trunk closes & seals like A REGULAR TRUNK DOES -- MANUALLY without ever needing to engage the motor again.

THANK YOU! This information fixed the issue I was having with my '93 Allante. SUPER communication skills here - not only showed the problem, but explained the cause and solution in VERY easy to understand (for us 'non-mechanics') facing the same. If ok, I'd like to share it with those in our group who have or have had, similar problems.

People are programmed to search for complicated answers and tend to skip the simple solutions, especially when the problem is annoying and nagging at them.

I just inherited by dead grandpa's old '93 Cadillac Deville, it's having issues with the trunk and I suspect it's something like your issue, and this video just potentially saved me so much time and money.

    • @JohnDisque
      @JohnDisque  3 роки тому +3

Cool! That's the plan. Just blow it out real good, lube it up real good and make sure the bracket is coming all the way up and that little lever on the switch clicks. That will tell the car that the trunk is open and is ready to be closed. When you close it you'll hear that little lever snap closed and that will tell your car the trunk is closed and ready to be opened. ///
If you don't hear that lever snap into place it's most likely because the bracket is not coming all the way up or all the way down...(which is just lack of lube and dirt). If it's not that, all it could be is: the switch is broken or the motor is burnt out.
      Peace.

Excellent video. I did not realize that these soft close units did not have a safety mechanism to protect the operator or kids. I thought I saw a wire manual release in one of the shots but of course you could not expect a child to understand how to use it. This is more important as a "did you know" video, and personally I did not. Thank You

Thanks... I'm working hard on getting to the point and cutting the yacking out of my videos. It's difficult because I'm a natural story-teller.... but the viewers don't search for videos like this to hear some old guy rambing about back-in-the-day.
Yeah -- they did put the pull-levers in the trunks but it was just a band-aid and after-thought that didn't satisfy the safety people and the kids (about a dozen total) ..... well... you know what happened.
It's interesting how many more kids lock themselves in refrigerators, washers and dryers (especially when they're sitting in some neighbor's back yard) but the safety people didn't do anything about that.

I like your yacking. I do have a problem with your talking while driving, the road noise makes it hard to understand what you're saying. I do have poor hearing, maybe that's why I like your yacking, if you're not driving, I can hear your speech well.

@@danespen5772 Hi Dan. I hope things are going well for you and your family.
If you like my yacking -- stay tuned for my new video being produced in December: The Complete History of the Lincoln Town Car. It's a whole lot of yacking about all the behind the scenes stuff involved with this car.... There was endless arguing with the engineers and designers... to the point of physically fighting on assembly lines while employees either quit or cheered them on.
The birth, evolution and death of this car is a fascinating story.
Some videos call for a lot of yacking.... but people with broken stuff tend to want me to get right to the point and show them how to solve their problem. If I get the urge to yack.... I'm going to put it at the end of the videos so they can skip it and go fix their stuff.
      Peace!

I already cleaned and lubed the bottom part of the mechanism as per your instructions. I'd do the same to the upper switch, but I can't figure out how to remove it. It sounds like the assembly attached to the trunk or the rear deck lid is either bent or loose.
Take the assembly off, power-wash it out, grease it back up and re-attach it while seeing if anything is bent or loose.

When you close your trunk..... stand there and listen and there should be a delayed "click" at the very end of the process. (That click isn't happening with your car because the main shaft isn't going all the way down).
Take the latch out, power-wash it, put it back in, lube it all back up and your problem should be solved.
