I almost didn't watch your video, purely from the title, but I decided to let your video speak for itself. I liked it, and I might subscribe, but it depends on what you're going to focus your channel on.
I can identify with the person who commented on your video, that you talk about, here.
However, and I hate that I have to specify my "identity", but I feel it's pertinent to your video...
As a "male" rider with decades of experience under my belt, welcome to the motorcycling community. Sincerely.
Not all of us are (insert 'ist's or 'ism's'). I don't even think that the majority of male riders fit in that category.
I wont claim to know what women go through in any context. I can't. But riding motorcycles is a "club" or team, just like anything else. As such, the team members (both men and women) have every right to assess you. This is true in any setting, whether it's motorcycles, or the Chess Club, or anything in between.
Nobody likes the arrogant jerk who comes in as a newb (not saying that you're either) and tries to immediately claim street cred. People who fit that definition are usually shunned, regardless of their "descriptors".
Equally, nobody likes identity politics. You have every right to make whatever videos you want, and title them whatever you want. But the moment you start saying "woman rider" this and "as a woman" that, you're already discrediting yourself, by giving yourself an "out".
Riders respect (good riders), period. Meaning, if you're into trail riding or adventure riding, then be extremely good, or be the best technical adventure rider amongst *ALL* riders, not just women. That's called earning respect, and that's exactly what you'll earn (from everyone), when you don't "qualify" or segregate yourself.
If you come at it as "a rider", you'll earn respect amongst everyone. If you always segregate yourselves and put the qualifier of "woman" or "female" or whatever qualifier you choose, people will always put an asterisk next to your accomplishments.
I'm glad more women are getting into motorcycles! The motorcycle riding community needs more people! But don't subcategorize yourself, if you truly want the respect of your fellow riders.
      Just my two cents.

I always wanted a cafe racer . Family said I couldn’t do it and my bad ex marriage did not allowed me . Now that I got rid off the negativity I went and bought a moped that is shaped like a ninja . Went up to 45 mph. I loved the feeling I felt so free. So I saved up and bought me a HD cafe racer. I’m lowering it soon and I’m learning alone . This has made me feel alive , unstoppable and free . I literally cried. It just means so much to me

I'm a male rider and something that surprised me is that I have never received as much genuine concern for my health from other people than when I started bike riding. People you don't even know will see you riding a bike on a small city during very quiet hours of the day and they'll still go "Hey, be careful out there. Okay?"

I certainly get a lot of stares too. Feeling like you have eyes on you is something that takes getting used to. Being a shorter rider has always been one of those things that I’ve had to work around. I hear about an awesome bike, go to sit on it, and nope! Too tall or big for my comfort. I will say the only negative experiences for me as a female rider would be male riders disregarding my knowledge of or experience with bikes, only making eye contact with or speaking to my husband in a conversation when I’m standing there (and they know I’m also a rider). I'm late to this party but I'd like to address the "it's too dangerous for you" allegation towards women who choose to ride. On the whole, women ride less aggressively than men and tend to ride by the book, the way they were trained to do, rather than take chances. I believe this significantly reduces their risk for getting into accidents, especially as beginners, and makes them safer riders then male's the same age. Wear good gear, know your limits and you'll be just fine.

It's the same when women learn to shoot. They do as the instructor says and because of this tend to be better shots than men, especially in the early stages. The gap closes with experience, but the only person with a perfect score at my concealed carry class was a women shooting a .22 pistol. It was easy enough on the recoil that she could handle it, and she did as he said. It was her first time shooting.

I ride and I’m a gal and I’m in Texas. I’m close to retiring from my current career. My first two careers were in male-dominated industries with the first being 40 years ago. I was “the girl with the big tits” as if I didn’t have a first name. I loved my work and I focused on doing the best work ever, so eventually, I earned the respect. I could tell hundreds of stories about verbal and physical abuse on the job site though. My point is that I learned to work around all this and still have good male friends and a couple of wonderful male mentors. However, even though I had that experience, when I got my license at age 52, I caved to my now ex-husband’s immense pressure to get a bike that did not fit me. It was too tall, too wide and way too heavy. It almost completely turned me off riding. When he left, that bike went with him and I got something that fits me well. And now I mostly ride alone and love it. I get more positive and supportive attention than negative. Thanks for your insight on this topic.

As for my own personal experience, I was expecting a lot of pushback from strangers about riding-and yet I've received minimal negativity-just lots of encouragement. When I went on my first group ride, I loved that I was treated like a normal person. I wasn't singled out for being a girl. I really appreciated and respected them for that. I'm a guy. When I started riding my Mom was upset, saying on two wheels it''s so much more dangerous than on four...
    I bought a second bike.
Just thought I'd tell that story.
I've now been riding for several years and love the fact that women are now really gettin into biking. In the last few years, i've helped three women get started, taking them thru the early stages to where they start there official courses leading to their driving tests. (I live in Switzerland).
Two of these women (also short inseams) have had to cope with what you've been saying here from friends and family, but had the guts to go thru with it, and now say it's the best thing yet in their lives. The third one was my longlegged daughter and grew up on my pillion. Her boyfriend is now, because she rides, starting to learn and is experiencing exact the same from his volks and friends that you went thru with yours... so you see nowadays it works both ways.
    Sorry 4 ramblin, greets, Steve.

Ergonomics , how your bike fits you, is everything if you want a safe biking-experience . You learn quicker and become a more accomplished-rider . Women-riders usually figure this out quicker than guys . As a guy , this has been my observation . I'm an older-guy and ride 3 different bikes , I still have to reign myself in when the adrenaline starts flowing . I'd imagine there is always going to be 'BS' when women move into areas that have traditionally been male-dominated . You've gotta laugh out loud and move on . When Stevie-Wonder was asked in an interview how he felt about being blind , he replied " It could have been worse, at least I'm not Black" Dave NZ

I really do not understand why female riders have become rare. It seems like it uses to not be that way. My mom rode motorcycles as did her brother and at least one of her 3 sisters, and nothing was though anything of it. But this was in the southern Appalachian mountains in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The school was a few miles away, the grocery store was 14 miles down the mountain, and most jobs were 30 miles into Chattanooga. But in an area where indoor plumbing was still high class, cars were a luxury. So there didn't seem to be a stigma to riding a motorcycle. You had to have a way of going and motorcycles were the affordable option. Or maybe I just didn't notice because they were normal to me. They were badasses to everyone else though. My aunt drove her big cruiser motorcycle through the school building. That is badass enough, but this school did not have a ground-level entrance. She drove it up a flight of stairs, through the doors, down the hall the full length of the building, out the other door and back down a flight of stairs.

It definitely took me a longer time to build my confidence on a bike compared to my taller girl friends. I've had my fair share of harassment from drivers and rando pedestrians. Luckily, none of those situations escalated out of control but still pretty damn scary/ creepy whenever it does happen. I'd say being a female motorcycle rider (or just a female in general) can be hella weird in the online space-- people are so quick to judge your life through a picture. On the plus side, being apart of the female collective can be really empowering in a community full of people that believe women shouldn't even be on a motorcycle. Awesome discussion topic! I’ll add my anecdotes as a man. Similarly, most of my friends and family didn’t want me to ride and my coworkers made comments on how people they knew died riding motorcycles. However, several of the stories had the rider not wearing a helmet or riding while drunk or riding well above the speed limit. Almost all of the comments I’ve gotten while riding have been positive, from people liking my bike or old ladies liking how I looked in my race suit lol. I try to encourage more people into riding, but they get a lot of pushback from their friends, family, or coworkers which is sad. One of my friends was interested in riding and said he wanted to get a Ninja 400. I told him that’s a great bike and he should take the MSF to see if he enjoys riding. However, one of the older coworkers told him not to get a motorcycle and that he would probably get hurt or killed on it. Hypocritically, that same coworker then bragged about when he retires, he’ll get a clapped out Harley to ride and do stupid stuff on.

    Meghan,
You know I have been watching your videos since the beginning. I have watched you evolve through the learning curve. I love the fact that women riding motorcycles or taking the sport up is the LARGEST demographic in the motorcycle industry. I embrace this! In the past, women were passengers and now they are your piers and riders themselves! I don't ever want a passenger. I want to ride with a Lady riding her own bike! I have ridden with women riders on countless rides over the past years. ALL of them have demonstrated that they have self imposed limits as to speed and risk. They are all very serious and calculating risk factors. This in itself is fantastic! The rides with women were fun, occasionally Brisk to their comfort level and back down to Casual riding. If we had to wait for them to catch up for 30 seconds, SO WHAT! They were ALWAYS happy just riding together and with us guys. I don't categorize riders as men or women riders. If you are on a bike you are a RIDER! Whatever your safety choices are, man or woman, it's your choice. Out there in the REAL WORLD there is not a Competition between men and women riders but rather Equalization in my book.
    Just my $0.02 Meghan!
I will be buying more goodies from you next week!
    Peace
Ride Safe and BE safe Lady!

    Very interesting video!
I can't relate to the female rider stuff but as a male rider of 40 plus years & a part-time introvert (I am out-going but love my own company), one thing I have always loved about riding is the way you can go somewhere with all your mates (or even a bunch of people you barely know) & not have to talk to them until you get there. And when the helmets come off, everyone not only has a shared passion but lots of different experiences of the same ride to talk about.
Ride safe & keep doing what you do. You're definitely making a difference to peoples' lives whether you realize it or not & for that, I salute you!

I found your site through Magpie fly's and think it is great that you are doing a video channel. I agree with what you have said in this video and wish that society was not so degrading to women. I think for a lot of us old guys or at least for me I think it is great to see women riding motorcycles. I find it refreshing when a women knows how to get along in a group of guys and hold her own. It is kind of annoying when some one guy or gal winnie's about every little discomfort or problem. I follow a lot of women on line and enjoy there videos a lot. I also like to ride and am very short legged as well. I have a 29" inseam. I have three motorcycles write now and I mite sell one but I am not sure yet. Well any way enjoy the ride Meghan!

I can't speak from the experience of a female rider, as I'm obviously not, but I think we need more female riders.
As someone who has, for the most part, preferred the company of the opposite sex in terms of socialising it would be nice to go to bike events and not be greeted with an overwhelming feeling of bravado and competitiveness that seems to follow largely male oriented groups.
Obviously, this is not always the case, but unfortunately, it's the experience I have had with bike events.
Perhaps it's my own prejudices or angst but I've always felt an air of showmanship or unspoken challenge of physical or intellectual prowess when amongst a group of my own gender, something I don't think is quite as common with the opposite.
I'm currently working on getting my girlfriend into motorcycling, she's complete on-board, enjoys being on the back with me, we just need to find the money to get her a bike.
I honestly can't wait, my two favourite things, spending time with her and riding my bike. I can think of no better way to spend my free time, cruising through country lanes with my best friend. 😁 Haha, I'm getting soppy.

This is a great vlog! I'm a 5'3" rider too and I finally got myself the perfect bike. I do have small hands but I've learned to get to the turn signals and shift and brake smoothly with practice. New and stiff riding gloves are my nemesis!
I ride alone 90% of the time and find that random people like to comment on my bike or men most often ask if I "do okay" on a bike the size of mine. I do ride a 675lb bike but that's by choice.
I live and ride in Milwaukee too so I like watching your motovlogs to find new areas to ride. I've not had very great experiences so far because I feel like there are tons of random careless drivers who don't respect the smaller size of a motorcycle. (Funny in Milwaukee I thought there would be an overwhelming respect for riders). Do you find that you're only able to ride certain days of the week and only at "safe" times of the day when there's less traffic? I have to say that's the biggest barrier I've encountered since moving here. I just don't ride as much as I'd like to and that needs to change! Any advice is appreciated!!

At least there are a lot more of you now Meghan. Harley-Davidson and other bike manufacturers have recognized that the fastest growing segment in motorcycle-dom within the last generation is the number of women taking up the sport. As a result, for example, many newer bikes have lower saddle heights which allow riders with shorter inseams (including myself) to reach the ground more easily. . .also, the lower center of gravity makes the bike feel "lighter" and easier to handle 🏍 As always thank you for sharing, and your comments are spot on

Many men who do not ride a bike are of the opinion that women do not belong on a bike or should be a passenger only. She is there to enhance the rider not be the "tough one". Other men who ride feel we are interfering in a manly domain.
I grew up around bikes and was taught early on all the pro and cons but once my uncle got married, my mother just baulked at me even getting any sort of motorized 2 wheel items.
Fast forward, my spouse and I had a similar joy and love for motorcycles but he was also sharply advised not to get a bike. His brothers could get but not him. End of 2017 , I put my foot down as he had just been retrenched and he need a bit of motivation. We had already killed our our outstanding debts so my suggestion came to open ears.
    GET A BIKE.
He said he would first get his learning permit and if he passed he would get his bike. He passed, he got his bike.
His mother thought I was the worst .... again. Long story.
Thanks to the weekends sitting helping my uncle on his bike, I was even able to suggest and advise what was needed on the 125 he bought in addition to his 1st bike.
October 2018, he took me for a spin on his 2nd bike as it was my birthday.
An idiot skipped a red traffic light and I broke my pelvis. The doctor who saw me sent me home with an open pelvic fracture. 3 months after, I went for a 2nd opinion and was sent for traction and fusion.
October 2019 my husband got me a bike. I was nervous as heck but today still prefer riding bikes as to driving in a car.
Will I stop riding. Heck no.
Well done Meghan for standing your ground.

I've tried many European brands like Rev'It, Dainese, and Klim (and returned a half-dozen jackets)... none of them fit and US brands (like Icon) are even worse where 'tall' is considered 5'7". There are lots of women over 5'9"-5'10" but motorcycle wear companies don't care about us. And, no, wearing men's gear doesn't fit for a lot of reasons. It does bother me how companies continue to focus everything around men (and using sexist advertising to sell their products) even though women riders are the largest growing demographic. :(

However, I'm 6'1", if I were a tiny thing I would probably be more cautious. I LOVE when kids get excited about a motorcycle and wave, or when older women cheer me on with thumbs up and waves. "Hey, grab a helmet and hop on the back, Sister!!"

To be blunt, there’s just not much interesting with fashion centric, self centric, shallow thinkers. Now a girl on a bike. Hmmm. Brave, confident, strong, not overly concerned about conformity, and we already have an interest in bikes in common. Most guys wish they could be that interesting.

+1 to the person who said increased participation of women in the industry will benefit it in a multitude of ways!
I think many guy riders take a lot of the privileges that you mentioned (flat-footing, steering control ease of use, and bike weight) for granted. They can honestly make or break the experience for a new rider. I'm genuinely happy that women riders can easily find community among fellow women riders because community can make the world so much easier to navigate and easier to participate in. I think as a guy I quite envy that because most riders I encounter at meetups are too caught up in the performative machismo of the hobby. Thank you for sharing your perspective and inspiring other riders!

    A few things:
1- heated gear. It will change your life.
2- flush your brake fluid over the winter, it is pretty discolored.
3- get in the habit of laying two fingers over your front brake lever. It will greatly reduce your reaction time when cars do stupid things, particularly when it chilly and your hands are cold. (See comment #1)

See, I'm trying to get into riding. Currently I'm saving up for my first bike I'm not sure what exact bike as : 1) I'm 5'2 and 2) I'm 17 so it'd have to be 125cc. I'll be on a CBT "license". I was also told it's stupid Idea by family members but my ambition to get the bike is on overload. I see so many people biking and all the freedom and excitement they get from it and it just makes me want to get a bike more. Though family members think it's silly which from a slight perspective I understand as I live in the UK and it rains quite often I don't think rain is enough of a reason for me to stop getting what I want so, I quite literally just told them "listen, I want a bike so I'm getting a bike. It's my choice" because honestly if you let people tell you what to do all your life think about all the missed opportunities you'll have. I'm a female at 17 and I will get a bike, it'll be a long while as I'm saving up money from work but...in the end it'll all be worth it :) If you have any suggestions of bikes that would be suitable let me know! Also don't forget to follow your dreams/ambitions

As for male or female riders, I personally don’t care who you are or where you come from. If you are on 2 wheels I always respect my fellow riders. The more you ride the better you will get and riding with a group on long trips will make you a more confident rider too.

I am a girl and I want to ride bikes. I do plan on riding a bike. It's really hard convincing my parents to let me ride. After me talking about feminism for a long time my mom said yes. And my mom can convince my dad cause I am not good with talking to my dad since we both have hella lot of anger issues so, the calm person in my family is my mom.
The things I said (keep in mine, my society follows conservative, traditional thoughts, so its
like only boys ride bikes and girls ride scooters.)
    1. We have to change our thinking first and the future will be what we want.
    2. So, I live far from my relatives and I don't know a lot of them,I only visit them once a year. My mom said it's fine and I don't have to know them because she is like me too, she doesn't know most of her relatives. Then I said "it's fine for me to not know my own relatives because you were the same. That's wrong, then? if you knew how to ride a motorbike, you would let me ride motorbike cause you also ride a motorbike." She got silent.
    3. My dad say's I am a girl and girls don't ride bikes but scooters. Boys rides both scooter and bikes and girls can only ride scooter?, that doesn't make sense. That means girls should only wear skirts and not pants. Boys should only wear pants and not skirts. #mencanwearskirtstoo
    4. If boys can ride bikes and I can't because I am a girl then I want to be a boy. I told them this as well. We have men becoming women and women becoming men that means if you would let me ride a bike if I was a boy, I will become a boy simple. all for my love for bikes.
P.S :I am the only child in my home so, since I was a child My mom treated me as a BOY #prince and dad treated me as well a GIRL #princess. They used to say I was both boy and girl for them. I just used this is to my advantage. I am pretty scary to have as your child. I am emotional and mind blackmail if that's what you call this. #evillaugh #Ialwayswin

Same here. A tomboy. Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars all the way-(no Barbie or any other dolls). I'm a girly girl whenever I feel like putting on a skirt and blouse. I can carry myself like a lady through and through. Yet my occupation is centered on auto parts and operating a truck to deliver those Auto Parts to all of our local garages. I've owned three motorcycles and four pickup trucks. Not only do I drive them well, but I also know how to wrench on both when I need to. Guys like to act like it's some sort of "rocket science" or involve some sort of "male talent." Yet changing a pair of spark plugs is about the same equivalent as screwing in a lightbulb. I think most guys just can't deal with the idea of someone having the privilege of being both female AND being able to own and ride a motorcycle or anything else that involves wheels and engines. Lol
My dad was hopeful for a boy or a girl. But in a way, he ended up with both a son and a daughter. When you have a daughter that isn't afraid to get her nails dirty and play in the dirt, you sort of end up with The Best of Both Worlds as a dad I think. I fish, I shoot guns and hunt small game. My parents are very glad for the way I turned out because they know that I'm one of many few women that knows more than a thing or two about survival and Independence.😉

Very thoughtful video, thank you! As a female rider on a CBR125R in a small town, I certainly turn some heads (I started riding at 35, and I've just turned 40). I once stared intensely at a beautifully kept 80s convertible Mustang while the older male occupant nearly dislocated his neck to stare at me on my puny mockery of a sport bike. Fellow bikers have always given me the two wheels on the road sign right from the start, and sooooo many people, mainly men, love to talk to me about riding (there's only a small handful of female riders in town). I was even invited to join the riding club, and I only declined because the darn thing barely does highway speed (110kph is terrifying on a single cylinder, tiny bike). I'm currently rebuilding a 1988 CBR600 Hurricane, so I'll finally be able to take him up on the offer. It's a vintage super bike, lots of horsepower to grow into (87 ponies inline 4) but the seat height is only 30.3" (yes, I just looked it up to confirm), perfect for 5'5" me with my 29" inseam. A bit heavy at 440lbs wet weight (I'm a whopping 130lbs), but it's still lighter than my husband's Trans Alp, which is also over 2" taller, IIRC.
Maybe it's because I live in a smaller town, ~10k people, but I've never been harassed or catcalled, though I did get yelled at by some teenagers once; the excited vroom vroom is awesome kind of yell, I mean. I've had soooo many great interactions, mainly at the grocery store. I came out once to my "twin" taking pictures of my bike. I took pictures of his before, too, so funny. My favourite was a very elderly man who told me about tearing it up on his 50cc two stroke scrambler that he still had in storage cuz he couldn't bear to give it up. Lots of younger men originally from India see me carrying my helmet, decked in leather, and excitedly ask about my ride because they miss having a motorcycle. Just an overall good experience, so far, other than almost getting hit a few times. And I'm a far more conscientious driver these days, on two wheels and four, thanks to motorcycling.

My favorite motorcycle story happened about 30 some years ago when I was in my early 20s and rode. I was on my ninja and riding a very curvy road and passing a lot of other motorcyclists on the way up to a popular motorcycle rest stop, when I got up to the top and was sitting on my bike holding my helmet a guy I had recently passed came up to me and said, “dude you are a chick” and my response was “yeah and I just beat your ass up here”. The guy died laughing, he was like I came to compliment you on your style and I wasn’t expecting you to be a girl. He gave me mass props for my riding style and the way I did things. I was always shocking men at that time. There were not many female riders in the mid 90s so I had way to much fun with it. I had a head injury (not motorcycle related about 13 years ago that messed up my neck so I can’t safely ride anymore, but boy do I miss it). Keep doing these videos !!!!!

All true insights about female riders! I’m 5’2 and I’m starting on a Sportster. I did get asked why I didn’t start on a Honda or a smaller bike?? Well I thought maybe if I started on a smaller bike I would want to upgrade to a Sportster eventually so why the hell not start with what I want and I don’t regret it. I’m feeling more comfortable now riding it and I signed up for MSF course in 2 wks, so things are getting better. but yes it can be intimidating at first as a female rider it does feel like some eyes are on you on the road. Great video Meghan!

I just recently moved to Milwaukee and I was going to be getting my license soon and was looking for other people to ride with as I’m not originally from this area and don’t have friends up here. I like watching this video because it kind of gives me an idea of what riding a bike in Milwaukee is kind of like. I have been nervous about what it will be like with the traffic as well as riding alone

You get more ‘respect’ from male riders on the Duc. You’re viewed more as a serious rider riding a serious machine, thus, less ‘harassment’. The Rebel is a fine piece of machinery but the Ducati says competence to experienced riders (also attributable to the price of admission). Glad you’re in the club.

    • @MeghanStark
      @MeghanStark  3 роки тому +3

That could be part of it, but if I get harassed, it's usually by non-riders and people on the street or in cars. I think most of them don't know the difference between the bikes! haha. I've had people call it a "small" bike because they didn't know any better.
I love riding and hope to get more people of all sorts into it!

@@MeghanStark I would say its because the Rebel looks more like a Harley which may come with making non riders feel imtimdated by you so they have to talk shit. The Ducati is more sleep and small and suits female riders from the looks of it. Which makes them think you can handle it

i think part of the Resistance is also a bit of a Stereotype about MALE riders, I'm an old biker been riding 54 years and seen some pretty crazy stuff, back in the 70's there was a lot of motorcyclist discrimination, something i learned on a cross country trip on a new harley when i was 18, got escorted out of a few towns, got refused a motel room in a clearly Empty Motel. and then there are the movie stereotypes of bikers and drunken sex parties, some partly true some just movie fabrication, and i think some folks worry about the female rider thinking they will be taken advantage of on the road or in biker bars. Me i have Always supported women bikers, my best friend and riding buddy was a lady and my 2nd wife rode her own, i was her 1st instructor, but even i when told a smaller female friend was going to do a cross country trip, even i was concerned, yet supportive, had it been one of my male biker buddies, i would have just been jealous i wasn't going, i think it's just an ingrained thing were we protect women.......you know the women and children 1st off the sinking boat thing.

I'm a little guy and my previous bikes were smaller, but I never could really flat foot it on the ground. So I just bought my fourth bike, a Sabre 1300, which is away bigger than anything I've ever owned before. I chose this one because I'm getting older and I wanted to be able to flat foot it at stop lights. The problem is, this bike has a far longer wheel base than most bikes, and making U-turns is a bit of a problem now. I'm practicing on parking lots, and it's getting easier. This bike is fantastic on the highway!

I enjoyed this vid. I am a male rider, but I find that I become more empowered (inspired) to ride when I encounter women riders, I want you to know that I appreciate you. My girlfriend does not ride but will be my passenger occasionally to neighborhood events, outdoor concerts, etc. She will ride if I keep it under 35 mph. Motorcycles are great for outdoor events as they need very little space to park (I know I am preaching to the choir). My GF has a sister that lives just outside of Milwaukee, be cool to stop by your company next time I am in your town... I live in Minneapolis, MN near Minnehaha Falls. Today's temp is a balmy -4, burrrrr.

I saw this video months ago before I even started riding. Now that I have started, I have noticed the way a lot of men act around women who ride. It’s crazy how grotesque 35 yr old men can be. Anyways, i have this idea of doing a women riders empowerment ride. Obviously I am a dude, but most women I know who ride don’t know many other women. In your opinion, what are somethings that I should focus on or consider for this ride? And should I remove myself out of it completely since it is supposed to be about the ladies who ride?

  • @Ang.0910
    @Ang.0910 2 роки тому +3

After reading a lot of comments I find one thing in common…lady riders want men to treat them equally but we ladies need to realise that since the beginning of time we have been in the “supportive role” to men, not even 2-3 generations ago women were still in the housewife role. We are the beginnings of more gender equality. Imagine in 100 years where women will be. So just take the backwards compliments and surprises as positive and keep rolling on 2’s! ✌️

Hey Meghan, this is the first video of yours I've seen. I don't wish to be critical or harass you in any way, but I noticed you mentioned you did you riders course. Did they mention to you that you should ride to the left or right of your lane when pulling up to a traffic light or intersection? This is an area where cars tend to drop oil in larger amounts. I was educated on this when I did my 'stay upright' course in Australia many many years ago. This is good advice and the only time I fell off my bike was when I failed to head this advice. So if you could learn from my only mistake, keep to the left of your lane when turning left, move to the right of the lane if going straight ahead or turning right. And when you turn, turn to the same side of the lane you are going to. Once your up to speed say 15-20mph you can move away from the sides of your lane to use the centre line. Additionally, it is always good to be moving around within your lane as you ride so that you don't fall into the danger of being in a car's blind spot. Moving around within the lane will negate this problem.
I wish you safe and enjoyable riding from here on in! Greetings from Cronulla, Sydney, Australia. Google it and hit 'images'...

I also ride solo 1-2 times a week to work on my skills. I think if you take time to become mechanically familiar with your bike, i.e., can talk with a mechanic to avoid BS, learn road terminology and apply it, know and own rules of riding you can avoid a lot of crap. Enjoy the fact that more women are joining our ranks and having a voice like yours gives us a place to be seen and heard. Remember, it’s your ride, own it!
