I'm a 56 year old female riding in Florida, wearing Harley gear daily. You wouldn't believe the looks I get from women my age bracket here, like I grew horns I didn't notice. I keep my hair in a long braid, and 99% of the grey haired women here have short hair styles, so even if I don't have my helmet in hand I get weird looks for having long hair. What I've noticed most though is that I act much younger than the women my age, just because I'm in the 55+ age group doesn't mean I'm "old", if they want to act like their best days are over they are welcome to, my best days have just started 😊

Im 31 and my mom tries to shame me for wearing cute/sexy clothes. Lets forget the haters (theyre envious) and continue living outside the age prison that so many trap themselves in, for no reason!!

I'm a 61 yo man. I ride a Kawasaki Concours 14. It's my only vehicle. Fortunately, I live in Savannah Georgia and can ride year round. It get odd comments constantly about how cold it is in the winter. Having lived the 20 previous years in Maryland and Michigan...it just doesn't get that cold here.
I've been riding since 1975! This bike is my 3rd Concours and my 4th Kawasaki...and my 8th bike.

I’m a gal rider on a modern retro styled bike and I get such a kick out of all the older folks who roll up to me complimenting the bike and then segueing into their “back in the day” bike stories. I enjoy that me riding brings some nostalgia to some folks.

    Great video
I’m a guy, a Boomer who has been riding a long time. When in college I was riding home after a fairly long trip on a big British twin. It began to rain….I had on rain gear (such as it was “back in the day.”) I passed a station wagon on a 4 lane road, as I eased by I glanced into the car, the dog was barking at me, the kids were pointing, the Mom in the front passenger stared at me with a look of astonishment and disgust. Dad, leaned up against the drivers window, looked me right in the eyes with a grin and an expression that I read as “want to trade places?” I nodded at him and moved on.
Now the Mom might be the one giving you the “want to trade places look.” The dogs still bark and the kids still point 😁

I'm only 3 years into riding and I'm still uncomfortable when people cold approach me as it's often men who have the audacity to come up and casually lean on my bike and proceed to tell me "that's a big bike for a little lady" 😑 makes me fume. Most people are great and lots of kids come up and ask me to give it a rev which is cute and a great way to connect, but for those few who feel way too comfortable getting into my personal space and touch my bike, it's incredibly uncomfortable and I won't hesitate to tell them to 🤬 off 🤣

I am introverted, and am an ATGATT nerd who has been into old UJMs for over a decade. I love it when my motorcycling hobby starts people sharing. I have ridden many vintage Japanese motorcycles and it is heartwarming when an older person opens up and shares their stories from the same or a similar bike back in the day.

My wife rides, one of the interactions she had with a coworker was he asked he for a cigarette.
She responded with "I don't smoke" and they said "You don't smoke but you ride a motorbike?"
Which I just don't understand at all haha, I suppose the idea that bikers are badass rebel types, I don't know.
But, she was riding a Suzuki VanVan 125, the most adorable little bike. Along with a bright orange helmet.
    She didn't really scream rebel.

Good video Meghan: I am a old baby boomer and I get some of the same reactions from the public. When I went to the Grand Canyon I had a older woman stop me on the way out of a restaurant to tell me about how her and her deceased husband used to go out for a ride on there Honda Goldwing after a long day of working on there farm. I thing she said she was in her eighty's at the time and I was 66. I also had a older man then me come up to me to talk about riding when he was younger and gave me some good advice on what roads to take to avoid the bad weather headed my way. I am now 72 and still enjoying riding my Honda CRF300L Rally.

I need to find a better way to cope with the way non riders interact with me. I ride rain or shine, hot or cold. My car is my secondary vehicle. I even grocery shop on my bike. And I get so frustrated at the shock and awe I get from people who can't believe it when they see me doing all these things they think are impossible or impossibly dangerous. I get that people don't know what they don't know. But if I tell you it can be done on a bike and you don't ride, DONT DOUBT ME.

I'm a boomer gen guy. I could care less about what a persons bike of choice is. Japanese, Euro whatever makes them happy I don't hate. As for as a woman rider goes, I just see them as another rider who shares the same passion for two wheels as I do and that is a great thing for our motorcycle community.
Keep up the great content and ride safe

My leather jeans, jacket, and engineer boots were my daily wear through College commuting to UW Menasha, UW Oshkosh, and then the motorcycle move from Wisconsin to Spomane, WA where I commuted to EWU. Until i finally bought an old truck. One of my friends in the Geology department told me how she thought is was neat that i was wearing all that for practicality and not to be cool. That observation took away any inhibitions to wearing full protection ever since. It proved useful when i hit a deer, a car, a bear, and other things that jumped into my lane over the years. So to one of your points, being around more seasoned riders earlier would have helped in confidence of choices.

I'm an ancient male - been riding motorcycles for many decades. current ride is a Vespa 300GTS scooter. RESPECT FOR ANYBODY who rides on 2 wheels. People have often come up to me to ask about my bike. Even more so now with the Vespa. Most people (even if they're not riders) seem to know Vespas and are impressed with the size of it and its speed (top speed - 80mph) - If I don't remove my hearing aids B4 riding, when I take my helmet off, it pulls one or both out - that's an expensive loss. - female or male, life is too short to let other people's hangups slow you down. have fun - shiny side up. -

Hey Meghan, I'm a 40 year old male, married with 3 teenagers (two of which want to ride!) and ive been riding for 22 years. Great video, you came across my feed with the throttle therapy video (great one and i definitely agree 💯). I can see the cultural shift a little of the last 22 years where it was certainly more taboo before than now. However, as a father and husband, the biggest response i get now is "how can you ride motorcycles with a family? Dont you know theyre dangerous!?" 😒 I'm going to pass this vidoe along to my daughter who has riden with me aince she was about 10, turning 16 in a month. She has been riding atvs and horses since she was really young and wants to get her endorsement potentially after turning 17 and a solid year of only car driving with no incidents as well as having to pass the Ohio motorcycle basic riders course. I started riding at 28 myself, what age did you begin motorcycle riding? Thanks!

  • @basilf1
    @basilf1 9 місяців тому +1

I'm a male sportbike rider in my 40s, and your phrase "cultural baggage" aptly describes my experience and judgment from some people.
One unexpected thing is the incessant "If you have seen, what I've seen" stories. With some negative stereotypes that match my description mixed in. It can be quite annoying.
Fortunately, most experiences with others have been positive, though.
I'm glad I discovered your channel. Have fun, and ride safe!

I don't know, I think it's kind of nice when some random kids in the back of dad's taxi point at the power ranger on a crotch rocket, then said power ranger waves back and that makes everyone's day. Joy to the world and all that.
I'm sure some of them even get a kick out of the screaming overtake that follows 😅

Great content. I'd like to see more women become riders, I have a niece who is interested. One surprising thing is that complete strangers have twice lectured me on the hazards of riding. Maybe it's because I ride a sporty bike? But I'm also a gray-haired guy in ATGATT, which seems like the very image of a responsible rider. 😊

Meghan, that you for toughing it out and producing motorcycle content. I appreciate the content that you do and am happy that you are still doing videos. I recently moved from Minnesota to Dallas Texas, for a job yes, but also to be able to ride motorcycle year round 😊. I enjoyed this video and it was a interesting to find out all the nuances to ride as a female. I suspect I'm not the only one who also appreciates your style and your sense of humor. Definitely agree with you on shock at the number of people that cold approach! Riding a Royal Enfield in Ireland, usually it's someone's grandfather that comes up and tells me they used to ride one back in the 60s or 70s 😅 . Gotten used to it now and can usually tell when its about to happen, but it used to catch me so off guard when I started riding haha. Interestingly, I've been thinking about getting my tailor to start building body armour pockets into my 3-piece-suits ... especially with the thin and flexible Sas-Tec and D3O Ghost armour options 🤣🤣 It seems that the challenge of bike "de rigeur" vs haute couture is a sexually equal one! At least you chicks get a choice of colours - it seems that all the marketing bods seem to think that hetero-males can't stretch their imagination beyond black or grey!!! Although thanks to Rev'it for allowing me to add an olive green Eclipse 2 to the wardrobe :) (It's summer here in New Zealand so loving the mesh ventilation). Enjoy the Duc 👍👍

You talked about people having preconceived ideas about you as a female who rides a motorcycle. I respect your spirit and daring for riding a motorbike. I do have 1 preconceived idea about female motorcyclists; I believe they are almost all women who have not had their ribs and legs broken by strange men. I am a man who had these experiences, spent a chunk of my life boxing, still don't wear over ear headphones to be aware of my surroundings and feel vulnerable on a motorcycle, where anyone can drag me to the ground, from behind. As a woman, you have less dense musculature, less dense bones and I would hate to be a motorcyclist in your much more vulnerable body. I am already paranoid as a motorcyclist in my push-up built male body. If I have written anything offensive to you, please tell me and I will delete my comment. The only reason I'm commenting is that my niece has started riding a motorcycle, despite my begging and pleading with her not to take the cbt bike test. I will not bring up the subject with her again but I am listening to what you say as a female motorcyclist to try to understand your perspective and to allay my morbid, sweaty, nightmarish fears involving bike accidents and my niece.

I'm relatively young and attractive and don't give off any sort of bad ass biker chick vibes and certainly don't have the look of one. Sometimes its like they're just confused 'wait wut?' lol... I find it kind of entertaining. Then...there's the odd guy who gets clingy and makes me feel unsafe... that's when I drop a gear 0.o. I also have long hair, I just let it flow! lol I wear a balaclava under the helmet so i don't have to wash it constantly... don't want my face breaking out bc of a dirty helmet, yaknow.
