- Hi everyone,
Welcome or welcome back to my channel. My name is Jess and I love doing DIY, making clothes in a "simply but pretty" way.
In today's video, I'm going to share with you how I made a Tank dress. This dress is a combination between a tank top and a cotton dress that I made out of 2 rectangles. That's why it's a super easy and beginner friendly sewing project that you can finish just in a day.
To make this DIY, please check out some of my basic information below:
- Sewing machine: Brother Auto Tension.
- Material: a tank top (with stretching fabric) and 2m of cotton fabric
- My body measurements: 80-66-92 (bust-waist-hip). I'm 165cm and usually wear Small size.
I learn sewing by myself. So I would love to know more sharing from you guys to improve my skill.

This is beautiful. This can also be done with Tshirts with sleeves for those of us who may not have the nicest arms, or if we want something where a sleeveless dress may not be suitable. And there are so many ways to personalise this kind of dress. Its simple but brilliant!!
Yeah, so many ways to personalize this dress with the different tops.
Long sleeved dresses are one of the few items of clothes I'm short of, so brilliant extra idea, thank you! :)
My all-time favorite sewing diy ever! I've sewn for 52 years and watch lots of sewing videos. This was amazing. Thank you! Also, you are adorable with a very pretty voice.

I am a total beginner sewer, and what a blessing to find someone like you to get inspiration from!! I bought a sewing machine and honestly to scared to unpack it, but thanks to you, I now will 😂
Thank you so much for your inspiring videos ❤
You can do it!
Do it girl! I was same as you six months ago and found wonderful confidence boosting videos like this one which enabled me to create cute “wearable” garments. Very empowering and fun!
Hey…here’s something you may find helpful…I will pick up cheap remnants at the fabric store (but now typically have scraps) and sew over and over on them practicing seams…button holes…zips… gathering…whatever the “skills” or techniques a pattern calls for, I’ll work on scraps for 30 minutes or so before diving into the pattern. I feel far more confident and move more quickly through the process if I’ve already PRACTICED it until the end result is good on my remnants/scraps. It’s also a great way to,get your stitch length and tension settings correct before sewing your project. Just make sure you use same type of fabric as your project (cotton…linen…fleece…etc)… this way you’re replicating the real conditions. Also, I have finally began creating “toiles” or mock-ups on projects that are a bit more fitted or complicated…game changer for me…but that came after I was turning out garments that were technically good…but didn’t fit perfectly…..have FUN!
@lizzieb6311 Thank you so much for taking the time to give such great advice. I'm definitely going to follow it. 'Practice does make perfect'. I truly appreciate everything you said.❤️
@@caring4all2008 After many years sewing, I'll still do a couple of lines on offcuts of the fabric I'm about to sew, as the above lady said, just to check the tension/stitch lengths are good to go. Remember there's No such thing as failure, you just found another way it didn't work so well. The first time you wear something you made, you will feel awesome, even if it's not perfect, (it never is perfect no matter how many years we sew for), so forget perfection, and settle for excellent as your goal :) The other thing to remember is to have the right thickness/shape needle for whatever you're sewing, knits need a rounded tip needle, while denim needs a thick one, and silk/lightweights a fine one. Also get a seam reaper, and when you first have to undo a seam sewn in the wrong place/wrong way round/caught underneath, know you've joined our happy club of mistakes made equals progress in learning :) oh and you can get small plastic clips that hold edges together but without sticking you like pins do, so get both, Happy sewing!
thank you so much miss..❤
Thank you! I would like to do it. Great idea.
Go for it!
