I had been using Art Resin also and I had picked many finished coasters prior to a move. Those boxes didn’t get unpacked for two years until I had enough studio space to unpack them. In a closed box in a pile of closed boxes I was dismayed to see that any coasters that had white or clear areas had definitely yellowed with no sunlight at all. The coloured areas didn’t show any yellowing. I’m definitely going to try jdiction next. I thing I will choose opaque colours and top coat the yellowed ones to restore them. I will use my existing Art Resin on projects without clear or white areas.
So sorry to hear that . Yes most people notice it when on white may be with all resins. So when you say top coat you mean with a colored resin. Thats a good idea.
I've used Alumilite and it yellows in the bottle, in storage, away from any light source. Thank you for testing this. I just placed an order using your 10% of code and the shipping was free!
Thank you for this. I too had yellowing with Art Resin so no longer buy it..I have been using clear coat and have good luck with it but will try the one you mentioned in the video. You are so awesome! Been collecting glass from all over my house that I don’t use. 🙂
You are welcome. That is funny about collecting the glass around your house. I have been eyeing this multicolored glass vase that I have had for a while wondering what i could make out of it LOL.
I’ve used resin for years, I’ve only seen fading in my pieces is when I’ve used Ranger Alcohol ink, the inks fade out even on Yuba paper. I personally don’t have problems with other Tim Holtz products just the Ranger inks. Resin Ive used, Total boat, Stone coat, K&S resin, Alluminite, Clear Cast, Let’s Resin. I rarely used straight clear resin, if I’m going to be using clear I had an a very tiny drop of blue ink. (I use Let resin ink) To keep yellowing away. Very nice experiment you provided.
Thank you! Yes that was the other experiment from Steve McDonald with alcohol inks and he found that after 6 months the lets resin alcohol inks did not fade. As far as yellowing Lets resin resin did just as well as the J Diction resin. I think besides the resin you use it sounds like adding a drop of blue may be the trick.
I’ve been using JDiction since I started doing glass projects and love it. Thank you for all your helpful videos. I look forward to watching all of your videos and getting great ideas.
You are welcome. So which J diction resin do you use I didn't realize that I was buying one that could be demolded in 4 hours ( It really takes about 6) and cures in 24. Is that the one you use for your projects?
@@crazyglasslady I use the same one you are demonstrating. I find I can usually demold it after 6-8 hrs safely, depending on the temperatures in my room. Also the thickness makes a difference. I’ve even used this project for pours up to 1 1/2”-2”. I don’t do that often anymore since I strictly do glass art now. In the past I have made pyramids.
@@crazyglasslady Linda I have a piece hanging in my window right now, been about 2 months.. no noticeable yellowing yet. It gets direct sunlight maybe 3 hours a day.
Wow!! I’d just switched to ArtResin due to recommendations from you and another lady I follow. I’ve never used the one that looks so good in this video, but I’ll definitely try it. I honestly didn’t care for the smell of the ArtResin or the amount of bubbles it had anyway!! I’d truly hate for anything that I’ve sold to yellow on a customer.
Yes well I truly like Art resin but I thought if I could cut down on the chance of yellowing over the years that would be great. And I was shocked when I saw the video from Steve McDonald.
Very informative video! I haven't gotten into resin work yet, I want to but funds are low lol. But I am an artist and I learned the adding blue tip and wondered if that would work, thanks for confirming it could! Also purple can work too, at least with paint from my experience. I've used a very very minute amount of purple in my white paints that aren't as white as I would like.
Well I really think that resin is just not meant to be outside in the Florida heat and sun unfortunately. And yes resin can be expensive but if you want to try a glass art project with Mod Podge insted of resin which is of course cheeper I have several done with Mod Podge and several with resin that could be done with mod Podge. The dolphin with all the glass in that pic were all attached with silicone.
Always something new to learn, right? You’re always informative….. Linda, I’m curious about what you are using to hang the objects on your exterior walls. They seem to be stucco as our house is. What do you use to hang your items outside?
Great video.. I can also see a benefit of using resin that has the yellow affect in an area when making beach scenes with sand color. It would add depth to the art piece. I’ve just found your channel so my brain my just be over processing. 🤣🤣
What a wonderful video; thank you for that! I will have to try the JDiction and compare to Art Resin which I have been using for a few years and really love it. For an outdoor resin that stays clear for a long time, I would recommend trying the deep pour Wisebond Resin (I haven't tried the others from that same brand).
The j diction 4 hour demold 24 hour cure we found works good in molds and glass on glass but not on canvas it leaves fish eyes i have not tried the longer cure j diction
If you are ever going to do another resin test, I’d recommend pitting JDiction against Wisebond and Liquid Glass Superclear 2.0 art resins. There was a video I saw once that said those 2 were the most UV resistant and had the most clarity.
Julie from Pouring your heart Out uses 360 , maybe exclusively. Months ago I tried to order it but it was out of stock forever and I gave up. Julie seems happy with it . Looks like you’re using the 1/2 gallon size? of JD. I didn’t see that as a choice
Yes on the J diction site that I have linked it says 1 gallon they are 2 1/2 gallon bottles jdiction.online/collections/epoxy-resin-us/products/jdiction-1-gallon-crystal-clear-deep-pour-epoxy-resin-kit-1-1-mix-ratious-only-sales I also have a 10% off coupon code crazyglasslady
So do not use j diction on canvas I have had problems with fish eyes. works great in molds and on glass. Thanks for letting me know about the links I will go back and change it.
Just wondered if you ever have tried East Coast resin. I am just starting and bought a gallon kit of it but it is really hard to work with. Gets thick quick and is hard to cover entire project. I am not even sure if it is for crafts so I thought I would check with you. Thanks
No I have never used it but I looked it up and it looks like you can use it to cover just about anything. It does say it has a 30 min work time so you may want to use it for smaller quick projects and then get something else with a longer work time.
Thank you so much for doing this. Does the JDiction seem blue after curing? Like you said, I’m thinking the blue is to counteract yellowing. If it cures clear and not blue, it’s definitely a winner. I have started using icoat resins. Going to do some testing to see how/if it yellows. They say it has UV protection so who knows. ❤️
@@jayelleart No problem I know its hard to tell with the resins alot of them say uv protection and even the J diction offers ones that say 3X uv protection .
