just got a white and orange version of the XSR900, its twice as fast as the black one...lol...ifirst thing to get is a dual sport air hawk seat pad...lol
Well both the XSR 900 and XSR 700are great options in their respective format. In terms of design both bikes looks superb although i prefer the XSR 700. The XSR 900 looks good but it doesn't do quite well with rear seat design. Personally i prefer the straight seat of the XSR 700. Performance wise both bikes are good. The 72 bhp of the XSR 700 is plenty enough power for Enjoying in the city as well as on the highway. Overall both the XSR 700 and 900 are great retro machines, and my choice is the XSR 700 👍.
The new XSR900 reminds me of the original, garage built, naked bikes of the 90s. Like the dropped and re-born Thundercat 600s sans plastics we’d see back then. With the chunky delta-box frame exposed. If that is the look they are going for, I reckon that’s a successful and refreshing take on the retro bike.
A guy down my way had a GSXR slingshot street fighter with nitro. I was running around on an NC24 at the time, he let me have a go on the bike, I then needed a sit down a sugary tea ! I didn’t hit the button on it
Just bought an XSR900! I had a 90 minute test ride and smiled for all 90 minutes! The quick shifter is addictive, the sound is explosive, and the looks are sexy! I was looking at an MT09, but the appearance was making me wonder if it was right for me, then I found the XSR and fell in love. Just buy one
I think the seat hump on the 900 was inspired by the seat hump on the XS750 and 850 triples from the 70s and 80s. The 700’s seat hump also slightly resembles the seat hump on the XS650

The livery on the 700 just looks cheap. I know it's supposed to look like the classic but on this bike it doesn't really hit the same. The previous year XSR700 in that red/white/gold wheel combo was great. If they improved everything else then great because I guess you could wrap the outer tank panels.
agree, the sticker they used for the EU version is a bad joke, looks so damn cheap. Now I learned this is not the case in Asia/Australia. Really disappointed...
I agree just bought a 110 mile 2022 XSR700 in dynamic white colour, has 298 mm front brake ingrate an Michelin road 5 tyres, but not the speedo clock mods (repositioned forward, white on black LCD and handlebar remote function. Saved plenty enough of price to but "Leo Vince LV one evo black edition" exhaust and Ohlins rear shock, also purchased a speedo LCd flip kit and reposition bracket. Now need Summer weather - but it's uk Christmas!
To be fair. The XSR700 gets recommended for beginner riders so often. But after a year of having my license I regret not going for the 900. I wish I had more power. I still love my 700 and I will probably keep this for a couple of more years. But my advice to a beginner is to just buy want you want to buy in the first place. I wish I did not listen to all the people saying the 900 is not a beginner bike. It's BS. You'll learn to ride what you buy no matter what.
Plus you have modes to tame it down.....but yeah your right hand is either an issue or it's not.....don't be an idiot and ride over your head you'll be fine Bought a KTM 890 R as my first street bike....its not too much and dont regret it at all.....love the torque in lower revs.....
so its ok for a beginner to buy a R1 and its ok, they will learn to ride it? Not good advise. seen friends buy too much bike too soon and crash. And most beginners will almost always drop the bike. Learn to crawl before u learn to walk is what i would recommend someone thats new.
if 75hp and load of torque on such a light bike is not enough for you, I will say it's DEFINITELY not a good choice to go for a faster bike. Any bike could be used to learn IF you keep your head cool but YOU obviously can't I'm very interested about the 700 with 20 years experience. Raw power is the last thing I look after
Amazing comparison! I think you nailed it with this one! I own the previous XSR900 and my GF owns a XSR700. Now I would not say that the power of the 900 is intimidating but it is serious power. If you are looking for a bike for cruising, the 700 is the better option. If you like it sporty, the XSR900 will do the better job - event more with the new version. Plus the "heritage blue" color scheme would be a Nr. 4 reason to get the 900 alone ;-)
How stable does the XSR 700 feel on the highway? Does it feel firmly planted and inspire confidence, or does it feel shaky? I just plan on buying a motorcycle for my work commute, which consists mainly of freeway travel around 70mph
@@nerychristian So far, my GF never complained about shakyness on the highway. And believe me: She would complain if there was anything wrong '^^ That being said: It always depends a bit on the wind too. But you should be good ;-)
Great video. I’m going for the XSR700, 70hp is plenty enough for me and I don’t need fluffy enhancements like ride modes and traction control. As long as it has ABS I’m good. Pricing is competitive but i do wish it had inverted forks and rebound adjustment on the rear. I do love the performance and style so will be purchasing on release.
I know nobody asked for my opinion but If I had to get a 2022 XSR I would get that shit wrapped because I think the stripe is butt ugly. I own the matte grey 2018 version and I love the way it looks
I have a 2018 XSR 700, and with a Termignoni pipe on it, it sounds amazing. It would be nice at some point if there was a larger displacement version of the CP2 engine, because I just love the sound of a good rumbly twin. But I'll content myself with getting an airbox mod and a tune to squeeze a bit more out of it.
I just got XSR 700 white.. Absolutely love it. Punchey twin, good feel on the breaks, a hoot down the lanes. Lovely smooth power, like supermotard.. Top fun..73mpg
Of these two, I'd get the 700. It's a lot cheaper and it looks better, is more economical, significant as the tanks are the same size. Although I am starting to find the 900 more attractive visually. It's certainly a great colour.
I think the XSR700 has a nicer looking frame than the new XSR900. That is one thick slab looking frame on the XSR900, its good they reduced the seat height. Having said all that, the XSR700 only comes restricted in OZ, and at seat height of 835mm, both are deal breakers. XSR900 is a maybe, but probably with that sort of power it will be a death wish for me, lol. A cheaper SV650 might be the winner, for me, lol. On looks though, I'd take an XSR over the SV650.
The 700 is a great second bike. A little too touchy for a total noob, but still fairly relaxed and forgiving. It's a simple machine with hardly any electronic control.
Been considering these two for a while now, you read my mind! I think I’m still leaning towards the 900. I’m a returning rider and am concerned that I’ll get used to the 700 too quickly and always wonder what life would be like had I spent just a little more and gone with the 900.
I did just that....bought an XSR700 in 2020, loved it, but coming from a VTR1000 always felt it was lacking a little and wish I'd got the 900. Sold it, now on a BMW F800 but that is going for an XSR900 as I love the new one.
I think It depends on what you do , the xsr700 is much more livable bike, is it a commuter? Weekend toy ? Are you in 60 mph or 85mph traffic? Are you on/off a lot ? Passenger? I would say there are reasons- the more I look at the xsr900 seat .... what’s with the gap near the tank ?
@@fabianb.7071 If you need to rely on technology as a beginner rider to keep you from wrecking the bike, you might not be on the right bike. The 700 likely doesn’t have an IMU because it probably doesn’t need one since it’s placed in the entry level market and is therefore more approachable for newer riders.
MT07(or XSR700) is too much for beginners. You really start to learn how to ride when you reached the limit of your engine. When going fast isn't that big of a deal anymore and you start to break later and harder, start to corner better and be more precise and efficient at riding a bike. You can start on an MT07 but it's harder to drive it to it's limits on public roads.(not advisable)
@@Cjvhxv13hxz9i4dbc well it's much more powerfull as the mt07, so yes. Here is why: it takes some time you get how a bike works, it is a sensory overload. In Europe you can get some big bikes that are restricted, if that option is available where you live, then sure buy your dream bike. Later you can take out the restriction end enjoy the bike as it was intended.

The yamahas parallel twin 700 engine is so much fun! Would love to get the XSR700 with the seat and overall looks of the 900.
I'm not a huge fan of the seat on the XSR900, but it isn't enough to keep me from buying one. I love the power, mirrors, and especially the cruise control. Hoping to trade my MT-07 for one in the future.
Seriously considering the XSR700 or the Kawi Z650RS for my next bike, they're both great bikes so it's just really coming down to looks and comfort for my final decision
People dont realize 72HP XR700 is lot of power vs weight 410lb. My Nighthawk 750 makes 74 but weighs 520lb and I still think its plenty powerful but at 410 this thing will fly. My SV650 made 65HP (1st gen) and was lot of fun same weight as XR700
Love the looks of both, but very happy w my '21 MT07, after improving suspension & front brakes. I don't miss TC much, since the stock Roads 5s stick well, wet or dry. Did the XSR700 get all the updates the '21 MT07 got? Is the XSR700 seat more comfy than the MT07 seat? If Yamaha releases colors, other than black, for the US market, I'm thinking most of my bolt ons would transfer....pipe & suspension, at least. Probably leave the SS lines and EBC pads on the front, for the next owner. :) The power specs on the 900 are close to my '14 FZ09, and '21 KTM 890 AdvR. Those bikes proved more than I needed, on the street. The TC system on the KTM, especially, made it easy to get over-confident, and over 100mph, quickly. If the TC system on the 900 works anywhere near as well as the '16 R1 I had as a track bike, I'd probably struggle keeping risk down on public roads, as well.....And that's with 45 years of moto experience ;)
Good video I'm watching between the Ducati Scrambler and the Yamaha xsr 700 some tell me that Ducati is better others tell me that Yamaha is for life that they are better motorcycles than the 700 is the best engine the 900 I love it
#MOTOBOB Good video. IMO the "new" XSR 900 will become the best selling motorcycle in its segment. Hands down it is a fantastic value for what it offers at the price they are asking compared to other bikes in their segment. And from the now various and numerous test rides and such YT videos it is a confirmed fact that the XSR 900 being the winner in 2022 and possibly the forseeable future, IMO
One thing I hate about the previous gen XSR900 is the super wide fuel tank, in the 700 it looks sleek but the 900 makes it look mean, brings to mind the flared fenders of AMGs compared to their civilian 3 numbered counterparts. Though it is uncomfortable.
Really don't care about retro and all stuff. But both are looking beautiful for me and only if yamaha ever launch this bike in India ( highly unlikely ) I'll go for xsr 900.
I didn’t want the high power 09 engine nor all the tech. However the MT07, which I bought, has a bad seat. If I’d tried the XSR07 and found it more comfortable then I would have bought one instead of the MT, which is a good bike in all respects apart from long-range comfort.
I've got my mod2 in a couple of days, I'm a retro simp and love the sound the cp2 put out...but I'm a chunky boi, I'm worried 700 won't be enough after a few months
XSR900 if you can afford it.. It's only as fast as you drive it.. The enhanced ABS, Wheelie Control would seem to make it safer if enabled. Start in mode 4 till you get your skills up. Respect the Hardware, Know your Limits, Live to tell about it.
After not knowing what to get for a good 12 months after my SV650 pcp ended Up going for the 2022 xsr700 in black. Taller than the SV650 wider tank Nicer ride than the sv650 but prefer the sv650 engine note
T7 or Tracer 900 is better, depends on your daily purposed. A comment after I'm owned a 700 for 4 years with everyday use in BKK. Actually 700 is a good bike but T7 or Tracer 900 is better for a typical road around BKK, a City enduro - -
95% of riders would never effectively use/need all of the extra power and tech found on the XSR900. If you're in the other 5%, it's clearly the pick for you. If not, get the XSR700, and enjoy yourself on a really great and fun bike!
Have you noticed the "new" pretty ugly new cable routing in the cockpit of the XSR700? That really bugs me. Beside that the price hike Yamaha did last 12 month i think the XSR700 now is a little too expensive. Concrete examples: MT09 -> XSR900 upprice of 550 Euros. MT07 -> XSR700 upprice of 900 Euros. Where the XSR900 has cruise control over the MT09, the XSR700 has no extras towards the MT07. If you think about what the XSR900 has "more", a list: CP3 enginge, USD forks adjustable, better brakes, Brembo maste cylinder, e-Gas, cruise controll, riding modes, TFT-Screen, slipper-clutch, adustable rear suspension. All this for ~ 2.300 Euros more. In my believe the XSR700 should get at least a slipper clutch now, maybe even USD forks - and for sure it should cost 400-500 Euros less.
it's all very choosing which one..it's actually getting them that's the issue! I've been waiting six weeks for a duke 890r, expected in may, now they tell me june or july !!
I bought a 22 890 R a month or so ago.... I found a few close to home and got good deal.....idk where your at I didn't order or put a deposit, just decided one day and went picked it up cpl days later Yamahas are much harder to find and dealers are marking up price substantially!
I have a 2023 xsr 700 in white, love the bike, im 58 and do not ride excessively fast maybe couple of mph past speed limit but value my licence too much, I really enjoy the 700 but due to the poor condition of my local roads at times it feels a little wallowy, I recently test rode the 900 and fell in love with it to the point I think I'll be ordering one in the next couple of days, I certainly will not need the extra power as 75/80mph is my max limit I'm at an age where I don't have to prove anything, when on a group ride mates have started to call me captain slow lol but i have a clean licence and hopefully I'll stay in one piece, peer pressure means nothing to me it's all about getting out there and enjoying the time on a bike, back to the 900 yeah it's more than i will ever need but when testing it I found the brakes so much better than the 700 the suspension too, the slightest input and the 900 just turned as sweet as a nut, the quickshifter was a dream and oddly enough the seat was fairly comfortable, I will buy one due to theses reasons not the fact it is so much faster than a 700, I think overall it is just a safer package due to brakes handling and electronic rider aid, top speed will be governed by myself and nothing else, just think I may as well let the bike help me get there.
Unfortunately, these aren't available in India. But, if they were, I'd go for XSR900. It is a beautiful looking bike and the blue color scheme with golden USD forks is such eye candy. Plus all the tech. Take my money😆
When will be th time of an update for the CP2 engine? I am hoping for a ~60-100ccm enginge increase resulting in something like ~84 HP and ~80 NM. And the update the XSR with USD forks and slipper clutch and maybe a better more refinded ABS.
Some advice from someone who's been riding since the mid 60s. Never be a cheapskate when buying a bike.🧐 If you are contemplating a popular cheapo like the Royal Enfield 650; go up to the Yamaha XSR700. So much more value. More perfomance, reliability and supurb finish. And if your thinking XSR700, what you really want is the XZR900😃. When you get to be my age, you'll look back and really regret the times when you went for cheap instead of value and quality. Think you can't afford it; get another job. Everyone's hiering now.😘 There's no feeling like riding the top Dog.🥳
Is the ride-by-wire throttle really so slow on XSR 900? I mean at 6:04 it sounds really delayed when you twist the throttle. Not a good sign for quick downshifts..
The issue I have is both engines look horrible. I could be biased as I started riding in the early 1980s and think pretty much all bikes looked better then than now. Plus I really don't get TFT screens. They too look horrible.

I’m also not sure what to do as beginner. Too bad the XSR 700 doesn’t have the IMU, that’s the reason I will probably also go for the XSR900.
@@fabianb.7071 The IMU should not be the deciding factor for a beginner bike. The 900 is a total hooligan machine but it's your choice.
Very interesting point...
What about starting on the 900, bad idea?
Mt 09 better.
Mt 10 better
@@deathtomorons9388mt09 is hideous
Mt 11 better
I've started with the XSR700.
If i have to choose a new one after a few years experience now i would take the the XSR900 or the Kawasaki Z900RS.
Always love your reviews and I watch a whole lot as especially since I don't have a motorcycle and love being informed about the offerings available.
4:00 only reason I don’t have an XSR900 is I like to sit upright! Everything else about it is perfect :)
Awsome. the XSR900 strikes me as a replacement Ti955 that works. I wonder if the electrics are as spooked though.
Good video I'm watching between the Ducati Scrambler and the Yamaha
xsr 700 some tell me that Ducati is better others tell me that Yamaha is for life that they are better motorcycles than the 700 is the best engine the 900 I love it
Man I loved your video
Keep it up brother
I love the look of the nostalgic 700. You have me 6 good reasons to buy a Yamaha!
700 is more cool, but the 2018 metal grey was amazing.
Nice... We are waiting a review with u riding this beauty Bob...
Cool review thank you 🙏
I really like this color but I also really like the MTO9 SP.
Really don't care about retro and all stuff. But both are looking beautiful for me and only if yamaha ever launch this bike in India ( highly unlikely ) I'll go for xsr 900.
The new XSR900 does it for me. 🔥 🔥
Dont forget, the 2022+ XSR 900 Includes:
Advanced ABS, Premium Brakes
Drive by Wire Throttle: No Snatchies
Cruise control
Cluchless Up/Down shifting:
Fully adjustable KYB suspension Front/Back
900 would be too much for me, very happy with my 60th anniversary XSR700
After not knowing what to get for a good 12 months after my SV650 pcp ended Up going for the 2022 xsr700 in black. Taller than the SV650 wider tank
Nicer ride than the sv650 but prefer the sv650 engine note
@t•x•t me⊕①⑥①⑥②⑧⑦②⓪⑤③ how?
T7 or Tracer 900 is better, depends on your daily purposed. A comment after I'm owned a 700 for 4 years with everyday use in BKK. Actually 700 is a good bike but T7 or Tracer 900 is better for a typical road around BKK, a City enduro - -
I wish the XSR 700 had the TFT from the 900
95% of riders would never effectively use/need all of the extra power and tech found on the XSR900. If you're in the other 5%, it's clearly the pick for you. If not, get the XSR700, and enjoy yourself on a really great and fun bike!
100% agree.Gets boring after a while being stuck on 2nd gear all day long
The prices are high for the both for me but what a beautiful bikes!! Do you think the XSR 700 is beginner friendly?! Thanx
Please consider getting on the bike yourself when pointing out seat height/ riding position!
thanks. I'm buying both)
They are fantastic bikes but I have always struggled with the looks, and in my opinion I think this latest model is getting uglier.
It’s crazy the 700 is $1000 more than the mt07. The 700 with better suspension and brakes for the same money and it would be unbeatable.
Stay patient! They said my bike would come in two months but it happened to be 4 instead.
I bought a 22 890 R a month or so ago.... I found a few close to home and got good deal.....idk where your at
I didn't order or put a deposit, just decided one day and went picked it up cpl days later
Yamahas are much harder to find and dealers are marking up price substantially!
Xsr 900 2020 model still best for me
If only the XSR700 was available as the black version with gold wheels.
Test drove the 900, it's a total blast. The 700 sounds like crap! Proper tractor. Out of the 2,take the 900. It is amazing fun, and sounds great.
Iam thinking about buying the xsr700 or the 900 . Any tips or prons&cons what to choose? 🏍 😁
These are the only two bikes that are tempting me to switch from a Harley. They are so damn sexy
The 700 looks better, imo. The 900 looks like it's in the middle of a style transition.
Blue looks great
Iv got a xsr700 and my dad bought the 900, the seat is so uncomfortable I much prefer the 700
I'd love to get the XSR700 but I'm an effing midget at 5'4 and that 835mm seat height just ain't gonna do it!
why not carepare with the xsr 900 ? I'd like to compare this ; along with the Tiger 850 sport.
How come Yamaha can make among the best looking sport bikes in the world, yet every one of their naked bikes look a bit wonky?
and what about short people? the 900 should be better since the seat is lower?
XSR700 for exhaust alone
Get the Xsr900 lol
Never happen. Look elsewhere.
Exactly. That's why I bought a Tuono 1100 V4.
I obviously took your advice, was looking at a cheaper bike as my first big bike and glad that I went for the XSR700. Love it
Agree 100%......everytime I have done it I regretted.....
Buy the bike you want and figure it out.....
there is like a street scrambler version of the 700 right? tracker bars , pirelli mt60s on the get go
No brainer if you have the folding…..900 all day long.
Is the ride-by-wire throttle really so slow on XSR 900? I mean at 6:04 it sounds really delayed when you twist the throttle. Not a good sign for quick downshifts..
Another great video, well done. Just wondering about your thoughts comparing the xsr900 with Aprilia Tuono 660. Which one to buy? Thanks.
Manscaped is offering ball wipes and you've been loving their products have you 🤣🤣🤣
Ahh, My Dream Bike ❤️🔥
I was looking at the 700 before i bought the cb650r, seemed a bit too simple and the seat was not my thing.
XSR 700 hands down!!
Just got my new XSR900 and I love it but hate the seat! Especially how it’s hiding the back frame and tail light wtf Yamaha make a flat seat already!
Neither if you live Anywhere near me. The dealers don't have stock 😐
The issue I have is both engines look horrible. I could be biased as I started riding in the early 1980s and think pretty much all bikes looked better then than now. Plus I really don't get TFT screens. They too look horrible.
