I think thats goin on with my xp 1000, its still on warranty but Im really dreading bringing it to polaris because i hate letting others wrench my toys. Mine sounds like a handfull of gravel in the drivetrain, that i narrowed down to the front diff
Went for ride in a friends new 2021 RZR 1000 and it only has 400 miles on it and it has a grumbling sound underneath front passenger floorboard area which made me believe it was coming from front Dif. He said it has made that noise was there when he bought it new. I told him it doesn't sound right!
It's really hard to find the source sometimes but after figuring out it was the diff and replacing that bearing I didn't have any more issues before I upgraded to the Pro XP.
My drive shaft I put tracks on it on my 2012 Polaris 800 ranger and it twisted the drive shaft and I had to fix it so that's just something that will put everything out of whack
My Polaris 850 sportsman 2017 has a 6” lift Has been snorkeled, Has a clutch kit Big 35” tires etc, It makes a really bad clunking noise whenever I let go off the throttle, Only when I let go off the throttle makes a clunk grinding noise But won’t make it when the back of atv is jacked up in the air.,. Can’t figure it out
Did it just start? Driveline slack etc causes the clunk noise and it's common. A grinding might be a issue or if the clunk is new might wanna dig deeper. I would check fluid (any shrapnel), check driveline (make sure your diff is solid and not moving around), and verify it's not a clutch issue.
@@ShaneBurrell1 about how many hours did your machine have on it when you replaced the carrier bearing... And was yours vibrating bad ? I have about 105 hours on my rzr s1000 and haven't heard or felt and noise. But I'd like to replace it just to get rid of the weak factory bearing and housing.
Chris Markham I was in the 120 hours. Trips to windrock going thru water took it’s toll. Now it grease can be added after each trip which keeps it water free.
Did you get a vibration in the floorboard at about 4700-5k rpms ? That’s what I have now and I replaced the carrier bearing (SuperATV )and the drive line is in phase but still the same thing. At a lost on what it could be
It was a vibration and sound. Best way to describe sounded like a few grains of sand in a bearing. It's really difficult thing to figure out. One other thing to check is your U joints. I've replaced 2 on other units that were also a source of vibration. Going thru water they get rusty or dirty and make all kinds of problems. Now we just kinda ride it till it breaks. The only reason I did the bearing is I had the driveline out and could feel the issue at the spine on the diff. Otherwise I would have just kept riding. RIght now mine is smooth, quiet and vibration free but that was after new ujoints (most of the issue), a superatv carrier, and finally the diff bearing.
Shane Burrell I replaced the u joint on the short shaft an still is doing it. next I’m goin to have to dive in the diff to see if that’s it. Have you ever heard Of wheel bearings causing that. I did notice a little play in the front.
Mine was vibrating and noisy with the faulty diff bearing. I removed the drive shaft and CV joints and could feel a grind/vibration when I turned the diff. That's what lead me to take the diff out and apart. When I started checking for the roughness it was all in the bearing in the diff. It could be a wheel bearing for sure. One thing that might help pinpoint is to isolate and spin each section. A mechanics stethoscope may help isolate as well. amzn.to/35ancSq
I hear/feel a mild growling only when in 4wd under heavy load like when trying to climb a sandy hill. Is this similar to what you experienced? I suspected a bad carrier bearing and currently have my machine torn down. I would really hate to put it all back together only to have to tear it apart again.
That is likely same sound/feeling. It could be carrier bearing, diff, or ujoints. I would definitely recommend replacing the ujoints if you have been thru some water or have some miles on the machine. It is a job to get that driveshaft out and I've seen the issue from those three sources. You could eliminate two now and check the diff if that doesn't get it without having the repeat driveshaft removal.
quick question i have the same rzr and i just changed the cage but that roll pin you were talking about isnt there on mine under the plastic spacer. is this a problem?
I've never seen one without it. I've seen them break a lot. I am assuming there is a hole for one but yours is missing? If that's the case that's bad and you will want to fix it for 4wd reliability. Normally with that broke it will not go into 2wd and eat's up the diff sometimes rather quickly. You can repair it by replacing the rollpin or if damaged hole drilling out to 1/8" and replacing with 1/8" pin.
You can put a bolt through the pinion hole then use a slide hammer to pull out the pinion bearing. Usually its a bit of debris that's making it tough to get out but dont press it back in. Clean the new bearing and sleeve well and only use a dead blow hammer to slowly get it seated for the clip.

@@ShaneBurrell1 did it sound like a clanking? Lol having a clanking sound come from front center of xp1000. Happens at about 17mph then quiets a bit until 40mph. Feeling resistance when turning right as well.
My new 2023 rzr has a horrible sound from the front end… has had it since the first ride, they first told me it’s just break in noise, at 150 miles took it to dealer Polaris won’t do anything about it… 😡😡😡 #polaris wtf…

3 years later but you still helping people with this video man thank you
Your welcome!
Great video!
Mine is doing the same thing after breaking an axle. Thanks for the breakdown!
Glad it helped
Great video Shane. Will help out a lot of owners. Quick troubleshooting.
Thanks!
What an incredibly helpful video! Thank you thank you!

Repair still working great. Best I can tell the bearing was just a dud.
Make sure the drive shaft is still on plane if it's outside degrees that will cause failure on your opinion bearing
Following! Figure out the cause?
Was the piñon bearing .
How many miles I have 7000 got free replaced engine got to change or least check oil lol super happy got a click in rear tearing down to check
I didn't hit that mile mark before upgrading to a Pro XP.
I plan to purchase a ranger soon , I hope I don’t have this problem. Hey man do some more ram diesel videos.

Was this bearing making noise in both 2 and 4 wheel drive or just with 4x4 engaged? Thanks
Both.

It did.

Thanks! I did a cast Super ATV Carrier Bearing.

They were manufactured in Japan.

What year and how many miles did this happen at? I have a brand new(40miles) xp4 making noise/vibration from the front diff area.
I think it was around 200 miles or so.
How did you get the shaft out? I’ve taken off both clips but I can’t get the shat out.
The pinion?
If its the pinion shaft it should come out once you remove the retainer rings, seal etc. The bearing race is normally just a slide fit.
You can put a bolt through the pinion hole then use a slide hammer to pull out the pinion bearing. Usually its a bit of debris that's making it tough to get out but dont press it back in. Clean the new bearing and sleeve well and only use a dead blow hammer to slowly get it seated for the clip.
Could that bearing failing cause my awd to occasionally work and not work ?
It could but not likely. Awd won't engage at speed and if you do have problem it's usually electrical in nature.
Did changing your springs improve the ride on the s model ?
The springs drastically improved the ride.

A traseira deve sempre virar. Se você estiver no modo 4x4, ele deve engatar apenas quando a frente ultrapassar a traseira.
Do you have audio of the noise it was making while driving?
I don't.

That bearing is dry as a bone. Everybody uses the wrong fluid in these front diffs, or they run em half full of water.
