    What's amazing is that every member of this band is every bit as good at their instrument as Martinez is. As they continue growing, I believe they'll be studied for generations.

    Saw this band live and it’s one of the few bands where you could just casually watch the drummer the whole set cuz he’s having so much fun back there. And I came as a guitar enthusiast! Idk how he has the energy to get through his sets.

    Saw them in Hartford, didn't even know it was them till I saw the merch! Great group of guys, they were the last opening act for Tony MacAlpine. One of the things I loved is a quote from the drummer, "...They all went to the college of music, I went to the school of hard knocks!"

    The thing I love about Richie and these playthroughs is that not only does he nail the studio parts, he's so into it, he's improvising on top of it all. Unless you know the original recording you'd never be able to tell. This man is pure joy!

  • @jakeloranger1419
    @jakeloranger1419 3 роки тому +3

    Great energy. Really good technique and dynamic control.
    Those are BIG hi-hats. I thought they were 16 in. But 18 inches. Wow. Not every set-up could accommodate the kind of real estate those take. I also wonder whether one needs to change one's foot technique to play them. Especially where he's playing pretty fast eighth notes with his foot to free up both hands to do their own thing on different areas of the kit. That's a trick I haven't worked on enough.
    As usual, I enjoyed your insight. I have been trying to improve my American grip playing. The few lessons I took long ago were with an amazing drummer friend who really stressed the German grip. So that's what I used, pretty much exclusively. It was only a few years ago that I became aware that one could vary one's grip depending on what worked best to achieve a desired result. That came as a bit of a relief, because I always struggled with finger control in the German position. Perhaps you could discuss your opinions on grip. I would be very interested to hear them.
    Thanks.

    Answering question about my feeling that gives me watching such a an incredible drummer
    - I just see amount of work that needs to be worked out to be able play like that and it’s just gives me additional push to go to my practice room and work harder
    I guess playing drums it’s not a competition for me - it’s just the way that we all have fun enjoy and express ourselves 🙏🏼🙏🏼
